Pictures taken with One mini 2 - HTC One Mini 2

Hello, I thought we should have a topic like other devices do. In general I'm not happy with quality of pictures, so much noise especially indoors, also lack of ios is visible with most shots.

I actually really like the quality of pictures, I previously had a M7, and I can tell you that you really can see the difference between the ultrapixel and the 13MPX of the mini 2. Maybe indoors pictures with low light are a little bit noisy (that's where the ultrapixel goes better, of course), but I wouldn't say it's a problem.

Yeah, the pictures are quite alright, the camera app tends to go crazy for a moment then you get a all white out picture, maybe the problem lies in the fact that I was moving the phone around and it didn't have time to automatically focus and the other stuff it does before I took the pic.

Alright after couple days spent with the phone and ota updated recently I still reckon that pictures quality are far from good. I can't take a still picture all the time, every single picture is moved.
It is slightly better when 2 seconds countdown used.
When anti shake mode used there is a lot strange artifacts that looks awful.
Maybe my hands are shaking a bit more than others but consider that pictures are of still object, when shooting moving object pictures are much worse. Maybe some of you guys have an idea how to set manual mode to get pictures at least off acceptable quality? Many thanks

I am not getting moved photos in my case, i don't understand very well. But I have noticed that you have to leave it on the object 2 seconds before taking the picture, so that it can focus, otherwise sometimes the picture is moved

Can someone post more pictures taken with One mini 2, I would like to compare amount of noise, many thanks

Galaxy note shutter speed vs iPhone 4

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone can offer advice in relation to the shutter speed and auto focus on the galaxy note.
I have come from an iPhone 4 and one of the main issues I'm noticing is that the ability to autofocus and snap a quick photo on the galaxy note is non existent? unless I'm on a non moving target ?
To autofocus seems to take several milliseconds to respond vs iPhone which was almost instantaneous, enabling you to take better shots etc.
Are there some settings that can be changed on the note camera?
Many thanks

Im coming from a iphone4 too but ummm didn't really notice to lag in the focus times. Maybe its a firmware issue ?
Definitely a difference, auto focusing and snapping photos on the note vs iPhone 4 is considerably slower
Will hope that ics resolves

I came from an iPhone 4. First of all, the Note is much better.
Now the camera on the iPhone had a quick 'original' auto focus, ie the first thing it focused on was quick but the rest took a while and the autofocus event would take a while.
I find on the Note that I have to wait a bit longer for it to realise it needs to change focus, but it does it very quickly. I personally focus manually as its quick and easy on the note.
Side note, I've also found that the Note has a smaller focus range, ie it can do better macro shots.
Cheers

I'm an ex-iphone 4 user, and the camera on the iPhone 4 is theoretically faster. But what I notice with the note is that I can take a picture and maybe the shutter doesn't close as fast, but the intended picture is the one that is taken. I believe the shutter takes the data from the lense, then shows you the shutter. I have taken pictures of my bird who loves to move around a lot, and when I take the picture he is in one position, and then while the camera is showing the animation for the shutter, he moves into another position but the picture is of the one I intended it (especially after manual focusing which I always do. I never let the software do it. Neither the Note nor the oh so glorified iPhone did a fantastic job of it).

This is my experience too.
for me. only noticed that by the time I press the button. The capturing takes close to a sec. Before this, best don't move about. Once the shutter is animating, any movement won't affect the picture grade.
Only made one think that taking picture is kind of slow.
Thanks guys, will try manual focusing.on a side note, does anyone know why the music player stops when you enter the camera application? This annoys me as I often take photos when out walking, and listening, to music at the same time
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
Oh one more question, how do you manually focus? Is that when you hold down you're finger on the screen rather than just pressing the camera button to take the shot?
Thank you

[Q] Camera photos viewed on computer

Am I the only one who has problem that the photos i took with HTC One look perfectly fine with great details on phone, but when being uploaded to facebook, they look completely different. The attached is an example of a blurry face and washout picture taken in Liverpool, but it was perfect when viewed on my phone. Do I have a problem with my camera?
I dont see anything wrong with the picture attached. Is this supposed to be the facebook sample?

Yes it is, is it a normal photo taken by HTC One viewed on a computer? Coz it is so much different where when viewed on my HTC One, i can clearly see my face and the saturation is higher, now when uploaded to computer my face becomes blurry and the photo looks pale

With our phones, the zoom isn't that great cause of the lack of Megapixels, but its not that blurry, if you wanted to crop out your face you shoulda had the pic taken closer. Sorry bud. As for the saturation, that seems fine to me

But i didn't zoom it before the upload, i just don't understand the difference between photos viewed on my phone and on my computer, where before the upload it looked perfectly fine on my phone. Could it be the lower ppi of my computer screen? I personally think that my HTC Incredible S takes better photos in this regard where the photos taken by it, will look the same on my computer.

My point was that it seemed as if you were cropping the picture, the photos the one takes are great, the cropping, not so much. The cameras strength i slow light, which it has great results in

No i didn't crop it before uploading it. The photos i crop on my phone still look great, but only on my phone. Do you have any explanation of the reason behind the difference between the quality of the same photo when viewed on phone and on computer? But i concur on the point that HTC One takes amazing low light shots, until i upload them on to facebook or view them on computer.

I transferred the photos to my computer before uploading it to facebook, and the size of the photos remained the same, they still don't look presentable on my computer like how it is on my phone. *sigh*. I wonder if i could get a replacement based on this reason. hahahahaha

well, not sure what kind of monitor are you using but the saturation on HTC One is one of the highest on the smartphones market today(according to GSMArena, only behind super amoled). Your phone's screen is surely much superior to your desktop/laptop display in term of contrast so it is obvious that you see much punchier color when viewing on your phone
It's a known issue coz of the big sensor and lesser pixels.

It has nothing to do with that. The sensor size is exactly the same as every other smartphone out there. Lesser pixels would not be the reason as well because when zoomed in on the phone, it's still reading the same data.

Sensor size doesn't affect resolution. You can have 16 Mpx on a tiny sensor and have much sharper but more grainy fb posts
The problem is simply that 4 megapixels isn't enough to zoom into someones face from that distance and expect minute details - that's a DSLRs job.

Hahahah i love the line 'OP should spend less time climbing on English property'. I believe I have a quite decent laptop, with 2GB Nvidia graphics card and i5 processor the screen shouldn't be too bad. But i do realise that HTC One has a better screen than my laptop screen, in terms of ppi. What makes me think i have a problem with my phone is that upon comparison with photos shared by others, mine just seem mediocre. Perhaps i should spend more time on adjusting the sharpness, contrast, etc.

This happens even when i transfer the photos to my computer and view them, they just don't look half as good as they look on my phone. I could play battlefield COD on my laptop without any lags and the graphics blew me away, so i guess screen quality shouldn't be a problem. I don't have this issue with my HTC Incredible S, the photos still look good when viewed on the same laptop.
You should actually REDUCE sharpness cos Sharpness at 0 there is still sharpness being applied through software. -1 works much better.

Shutter Speed Issue...

When I set my shutter speed in manual mode to anything between 2.5 and 4 seconds (for long exposures) it seems that my camera draws MUCH more light and makes the screen and picture almost completely white. I have verified that the flash is off. I am new to long exposure photography and I know a phone isn't the best device for it, but I have seen a few reviews which mentioned it on this phone and thought I'd give it a try. Is anyone else noticing this? I am testing it in my office and the screen is almost a solid white. Thank you in advance

Long exposure shots are usually used at night when it's not as bright. Pictures of the night sky where you can see the star trails, or the pictures of cars on the highway with the headlights as a streak are examples of long exposure. Using long exposure when the is enough light for a normal picture will cause it to look washed out (overexposed) try the long exposure shot outside at night. If you have kids give them sparklers. It's a cool way to have fun with the family and get some really cool pictures.

No problem. My girlfriend has a cannon rebel t3i so we have taken a few long exposure shots. Very cool but kinda tricky. We have always used a tripod to hold the camera.

Motion blur in pictures

Hi,
As a fairly new father I am taking a lot of pictures of my daughter.
In still shots the phone is fine but when she is moving, which can be quite a lot I am getting lot's of pictures of blurry arms and feet.
My wife says my new phone is rubbish and I should return it because of this, compared to her iphone 6 which takes perfect pictures of moving arms and legs with zero blur.
To be honest I never had a phone cause so much blur with the standard automatic mode...before this my P9 took pictures in the same circumstances with zero blurry limbs and my Lumia 950xl was perfect taking pictures of my dog.
Does anyone else have blur with moving people or animals?
Any tips on how I can avoid this problem?
I have turned off HDR and flash to try and reduce the time needed for each photo but I need to take photo's fast some times and don't have time to mess around in the settings.
Its not really a fault of the camera or the phone, it is attempting to get a correctly exposed shot with the light available and if there is a lot of movement in poor light the bits that are moving get blurred due to a slow shutter speed.
You might want to try using the colour sensor only although it is well known the camera app is a bit crap, you could try another like Camera Zoom FX etc.
Cheers for the reply,
I have opencamera installed but didn't really use it much so I'll give that a test over the next few days.

Trouble is comparing it with an iPhone isn't going to help either, i think the camera in the Nokia 8 gets a bad rap but clearly it cant compete with an iPhone which are known for having great cameras.

For sure, but I had a lot of phones with camera's over the years and didn't get blur as bad as this guy.
iphone 6 is 3 years old so I would expect it to produce better photo's than that (ignoring the blur factor), when I had my Lumia 950XL my wife was amazed at how good the photo's looked compared to her iphone.
If I can just find a better camera app than the default one it can be ok.
But did you try Google Camera on the dev section ? the BSG, Cstark or Arnova one ? There is zero shutter lag like Pixels, and it's very good.
You can't compete with Lumia 950XL though. Still a king after these years and incredible in low light

Age has nothing to do with it though, a good camera is a good camera, my (now little used) Canon 20D is 14 years old and still takes a cracking photo.
The f2 aperture is the weak point on the Nokia 8, even my Moto G5 Plus has an f1.7 aperture and sadly Nokia cant do anything to change that other than force the camera to shoot with a higher ISO and therefore a faster shutter in low light.
Use the google camera app. Turn on "HDR+ Enhanced" and you should not get blurry photo in decent/good light. A bit of delay per shot but you'll get great image.
The phone still gives up in low light, however.
Bit late here, but I have the same issue. I think the camera is ****. Even my old phones (and cheaper phones are significantly better at capturing moving targets). Really disappointed. Got new kitten, 1 in 10 photos is keepable. Even in bright light. It just takes way too long to focus, often missing the moment altogether.

Slow/blurry focus is already a common problem on Nokia 8. You can install the Google Camera to resolve the problem. It also comes with some new features (such as motion picture) which is currently and exclusively on Google Pixel 2 camera as well.??

Improving the quality of your pictures with a single click

How many times you think you have taken the perfect picture only to find it overexposed and soft, and you can't take another one because the moment you were trying to capture is gone? It happens a lot, as great as the cameras on smartphones have become, these issues are bound to happen with every smartphone. I have had the S9, P20 Pro, Mate 20 Pro, Note 9, and S10+ now, and every one of them gave me great pictures, but trash ones as well at times.
Long story short, these cameras as great as they, they're a tad inconsistent, but there's kinda a solution for it, at least on Samsung phones. Some of you might know it, maybe plenty, but I bet many more don't, I'm talking about the Auto Adjust mode buried in the gallery app. It turns most of the pictures I found meh into great looking pictures, adds contrast, brings the colors back to life, and give me that Pixel like look to my pictures. It doesn't always work great, but it does the job at least 90% of the time on the pictures I am not happy with. Even works great with the pictures from previous phones, including the Huaweis.
Here are a few pictures from before and after, you can easily tell which is before and which is after. The first two pictures are taken on the S10+, the instrument cluster and the picture on the snow were taken using the Note 9.
P.s: to get to the mode, when in gallery and checking a picture, press on the pen icon(edit mode), then click on the three little circles at the bottom(look at the attached picture), then choose auto. Good luck.
I forgot to mention one more thing, when you're in edit mode, there is a little wand icon up top, it also does a very good job at tweaking your picture. If I am editing my pictures and I am not happy with the results I am getting out of one of these two options, usually the second one does the job for me. Either ways, I know that 99% of the time I am getting a much better picture than the camera app have given me.
Oh wow, the difference is insane!
Doesn't work very well for me, look at the two below , just over sharpened and far to much contrast View attachment 4721778

Yeah I like the look of OP's before pictures. Some of the after pictures also look goo, but like the snow one looks better before.
By the way the auto mode in the Google photos app is fantastic as well. Especially with outdoor shots and landscape using the pop feature really gives pictures a better punch. I think it's hilarious we all complain that we can't take DSLR level pictures on our cell phones but with a little bit of editing things can dramatically improve.
wow definitely adds more saturation and definition to the photos. makes the originals just look so muted.
