Hi guys. My mother has a Samsung Galaxy SIII mini GT-I8190N build JZO54K.I8190NXXAML1 and from yesterday her phone doesn't turn off.
Simply when long press power button and select power off the phone reboots. Also if I remove the battery when i plug it in the phone immediately starts;,it works properly if it's under charge but when i unplug the cable the phone boots. I'm not a Samsung user so i don't know if it's a known bug or if there's other 3ds about this (I tried with search function but I didn't find anything). I also don't know how to take a logcat because on my PC USB drivers for Xperia devices are installed and adb says "waiting for device" also with USB debug enabled.
She won't root, flash, etc. Is there any alternative to factory reset?
Thanks!

to factory reset, take out the battery, then: press and hold the volume up, power and home buttons, then pop in the battery. it should reboot into recovery. use the volume keys to select factory reset (or something similar, i forget the actual words) and select with the home button.
So I have to factory reset?

Yep, that is a similar problem with Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 where it doesn't shut down... Or maybe change your firmware (look on sammobile.com for firmwares)
Ok, thank you

Hello.
I have a nexus one and the power button is (really) broken.
I need to hard reset the phone, but without power button it seems difficult to confirm "restore" choice from the list.
There is a tool on windows or linux to hard reset my phone?
Or an other way?
Plz, plz, plz
What do you mean by hard reset?
If you want to reset to factory, you can go to home>menu>settings>privacy>factory data reset
If you want to do a full power off, power on cycle, you can let the phone run down to the end of its life and then it will shut itself down (there may be a widget or a battery pull that can shut it down also, not sure). Once the phone is powered down, plug it into a power source. (leave it for a few minutes if you did the battery drain method). Then while the phone is still plugged in, remove the battery cover and remove the battery, wait a few seconds then put the battery back in. Wait a few seconds and the phone will boot up. If it doesn't boot up, repeat the battery pull and insert until it does.
to do a hard reset :
press power button + trackball + volum down;
then the phone will reboot with a special menu, choose recovery and confirm by pressing the power button.
I want to do this, but ... I don't have a power button ...
So, what can I do to have the same result without p.b. ?
thx
You can download terminal emulator from the market.
type the command "reboot recovery" press enter.
Also, you can download an app called Quickboot from the market, it will allow you to choose reboot, reboot recovery, or reboot bootloader.
Are you rooted?
Hello A.B.
First, yes I'm rooted.
But there is still something I didn't say before, my phone is locked and I don't remember the schema and the recovery with the gmail address doesn't work.

Ok got it. You will have to use ADB via the Android SDK.
The same recovery command will work in ADB. Go to command prompt, cd into your sdk tools directory. Run (<adb devices> first to confirm connection) then <adb reboot recovery>
This will take you to Aman Ra or Clockwork where you should be able to navigate with trackball and the VOL DN.
Not so good if you can't get in to turn USB debugging on though
Unsure but if you are needing to use recovery I can vouch psfreedom recovery uses track ball instead of power button to select / for back / etc. Hope it helps.
Edit : PS_my power button has good n bad days as well. Might I also recommend quick boot and lock widget from market if anyone has this problem.
N1 running psfreedom recovery and MIUI! sent via XDA app =D
I've tried the method you describe above and I get this message " error device not found" ( when the phone is booted, shutteddown, in reboot mode, ...)
bump .. would like to know answer to this too.
Power button is dead.
Nexus one can't got pass the boot animation, but stuck in the lock screen as the thouchscreen doesn't register (perhaps the ROM is corrupted??)
I'm able to get to HBOOT menu, but can't select hboot item as the power button is dead.
Any solution?

I am having a smartphone of different company but facing the same problem. My smartphone has got screen-locked. My smartphone's power button is broken, and also it doesn't interact when plugged-in a computer or laptop. It just keeps on charging. My laptop, too, never displays that a new device/driver has been added to it.
Hence, I can't hard reset, am not able to open the phone and can't use any external software to make it follow any commands.
Is there any other way, like controlling my phone or hard resetting it via wifi from my laptop.
If such an method exists, I would really like your help.

P.S: im sorry for your phone, try a home made jig.
No I can't....because it's no way to establish connection
between phone and computer
If I press Volume Up or Down + Home + Power = logo Samsung Galaxy S and fails to connect to PC.
Just press only Power I see audio-animation S ..but after that the screen is black and the soft key are illuminated ...and stay so until the battery is consumated. Thanks for your answers.

Try this method: remove battery then put it back [so it's on battery but off!]
home+ volume down + plug USB cable in
This did bring my phone into download mod when POWER+home+volume down did not work.
Hope this helps

Before you go for the jig try this.
make sure you have installed usb drivers, they are available here
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956&highlight=usb+drivers
1) take out the battery from the phone
2) start odin
3) plug in the usb in your phone without inserting the battery
3) now press Volume Down + Home + Power keep them pressed
4) still keeping them pressed insert the battery
Hopefully you will boot into download mode.

You can insert the battery and then do the 3 button combo - power+vol down+home. This should bring the phone into download mode. After that start Odin and then choose any custom/ stock rom to bring the phone back to life. Personally, whenever I run into such problems I simply put the phone into download mode, start odin, and flash Darky's resurrection 10.2 edition. Never fails.
But, why is god's name is this posted in the dev section???!!!
He said he can get into download mode, he's just having driver problems as far as I can tell and has about as much idea of computers as he does phones (i.e none). Probably how his phone doesn't turn on in the first place.
Thanks....But I dont have a driver problem. I have all the driver in PC the phone is conected for few secconds if I press Volume Up , Home and Power. That is the great problem...THE PHONE STAY CONNECT JUST 2~3 seccund maxim and after thet is only decconected....and I dont have time for instal nothing because all the program incl Odin dont found the phone after 3 secconds. Thanks very much for your help!

Could be a hardware problem, a case of partial contact with the battery. Remove the back cover, put a tiny piece of paper to support the battery to make the contact firm. See how it goes.
ok
1st unistall kies
2nd redownload from www.samsung.com with kies as always and close it
3nd connect ur phone w/o turn it on and check if battery is charging at all
4th if ur battery is ok then unplug ur phone open odin 1.82 connect ur phone hold vol down+home+power for 10sec
5th if ur phone got download mode then w8 until odin regonize (check if windows are trying to get ur phone and see where it fail if not connected)
6th if u phone get regonize then flash an costume or stock rom
7th if nothing work buy Home Made JIG or go to the nearest service center

Yes , sure you're right ! un pin of the three is defective connection is only half (pin moves too much) I think here is problem . Thanks very much!
A kid of a friend of mine tried so many times the unlock pattern that the Galaxy Tab now asks them for an email/pass combination, and as incredible as it might sound, they do not know them!
I have tried to get into recovery mode by holding "volume -" and "power", and "volume +" and "power", and power, but I can not get to the recovery menu.
Short of any ideas, is there an option to reset it using USB or any other way?
Thanks!
Finally, I was able to do it! Thankfully, the debug mode was on, so I connected, forced windows7x64 to use the ADB drivers, rebooted, and wiped from ADB and rebooted!
Hello,
My phone is in bootloop. It resets and vibrates every 2 seconds. If I connect the USB cable to the phone and the PC, then I pull out the battery, the phone keeps reseting.
Working any combination of buttons for hard reset or download mode - NO.
Recognizing any cable - NO.
I remember that i've seen here a tutorial for disassembly the phone and do some reset directly from the motherboard. And I can't find those instructions any more.
Can you help me with a link? I think that is my last option.
Ty!

Reflash ATIV S
Hi,
you should try to reflash your ATIV S.
Provide ROM, drivers and and Flash Tool for your device.
Put your device to Flash Mode (key combination only i8750 !!!):
Hold Vol Up- key + camera key and press Power key. May be you must remove the battery in order to turn your device off. You should arrive on a "colourfull" flash screen.
May be, just going once to flash mode and then remove battery without starting to flash might resolve your issue. Otherwise: flash.
Bets wishes,
Joachim
Holding Power & Volume Down beginning screen says Bootloader Unlocked Cannot Be trusted and then goes to Android Recovery. Tried to Factory Data reset several times, but keeps coming back to Bootloader Unlocked. I can not even tell if I am over charging or if it is charged at all. Can I get Samsung files from Samsung site to download? Which ones do you think would be best course. I just want it to be factory data reset. HELP! My recovery screen pics are attached.

Why are you holding vol down? Holding vol down and power is the method used to boot to recovery. And once the bootloader is unlocked you will always get the nag screen saying it is unsafe. Ignore it. What happens if you just push the power button WITHOUT pushing vol down?

Then you need to boot to download mode, not recovery. Plug the USB cable into a PC and not the tablet. Turn the tablet off. Then, while holding both vol down and vol up, plug the cable into the tablet. You can download the latest firmware using frija.exe. Flash the firmware using Odin on the PC.

I was able to successfully download the firmware and flashed it with odin. The only problem now is odin indicates PASS! in green on PC and seems to be finished, but the odin screen on PC has not closed. The tablet downloading screen remains open with the progress bar all the way at the end. Should I hit exit or reset on odin on PC or alternatively select AutoStart in options?

I don't know. The Odin screen remaining open is normal. But, unless you unchecked the auto-reboot in Odin options, the tablet should have rebooted when it finished flashing. If it doesn't, I guess the only thing you can do is manually reboot the tablet by holding vol down and power for about 7 seconds.

I did uncheck the auto-reboot which the directions I had said to do so. So I just let it sit there for about 6-7 hours plugged into PC. I figured then there was no way it wasn't done installing so i unplugged from PC. After like 5 minutes or so the tablet came on with the beginning screen for setting up tablet. Now I just have to figure how much crap I really need on it. I wish I could get rid of Samsung Flow so I could use the tablet for Fan Duel. Thanks for your help. Have a good weekend.
