I am not new to Xperia as I had x10, Neo V, Ray and TL. I know how to use flash tool and know my way around with my trusty Root Explorer.
I recently bought Z1 6906 - It was originally Bell Canada but I am using it on AT&T.
Phone runs JB 4.2.2 - build 14.1.G.1.158.
I read lots of forums and all of them say something slightly different, depending on Z1 model and build.
All I need is simple set of instructions on how to end up with rooted Z1 6906 running android 4.4.2.
I read that you can root JB with VROOT but I am vary of Chinese superuser apps and stuff that they put on my phone during the root process.
I do not need bootloader unlocked as I do not plan flashing custom ROMs, Kernels etc... and all flashable tweaks can be applied via Root Explorer and some elbow grease.
So - what is least painful way to root and upgrade to KitKat and preserve root - keeping stock ROM.
I would like to have (preferably unbranded firmware) but I can live with Bell one and remove junk myself.
I appreciate all the help .
And please don't answer with "Search is your best friend" because I am fully aware of that - I post ONLY if I feel really stuck and need help

just look in the development section, there are plenty of threads explain how to do this. Or there is a method in my signature, its slightly outdated (By about a week) there are quicker methods now, they are easy to search for.

Hello xda-developers,
I am a noob once again in desperate need on guidence on my new device...
i have had iPhones since the very First ever iPhone so recently when i decided to sell my iPhone 4S and my iPad 2 to buy 1 device the Samsung Galaxy Note i was making a huge risk as i have never used anything other than ios but i made the risk and couldnt be happyier,
Now onto the more serious part on why i have created this thead...i need assistance on how to go about rooting my device
It's a Brand New Samsung Galaxy Note White Euro model, i wanted uk but couldnt find it in stock anywhere and had to order online, i think it came from germany as when i checked the tracking thats were it was dispatched from,
I have been doing alot of reading on these forums and others around the internet and i think i have it right but because my model might be a germany handset but dontknow for sure from what i can tell it has
baseband version N7000XXLA4
kernal version N7000XXLA6
from what i can sorta understand because its on N7000XXLA6 it cannot be rooted direcly and needs to be downgraded to a lower firmware? also is the kernal version the firmware version?
sorry for the noobish talk i wanna get this right as i dont wanna damaged my new device...do i need to downgrade my firmware to be able to root my device?
my plan is to once offical ics comes out to have offical ics installed then root the device then remove all the bloatware from it and make it original pure clean ics kinda like the nexus no samsung crap on it but have root access for extra features like gamepad support like ps3 controllers and other features.
i have tryed to work out the best thing to do so far i am stuck with thinking my device cant be directly rooted and i dont wanna jump in a fiquire out the hard way as iknow rooting isnt as easy and jailbreaking.
i can't wait to hear feedback and help tips and tricks from the community and also very big thanks in advance for taking te time to read this

Your Rom is too new to be rooted directly, you got that right. Go to this thread and download any Rom older than N7000DXKL3 (I prefer N7000XXKK9, it's easily rooted using zergrush method, but it's your choice, of course). Then you can proceed with flashing your downloaded Rom via PC Odin (detailed instructions with pictures in the said thread).
Then visit this thread for instructions on rooting your Rom (find 'Method 2: Root + CWM recovery' and follow it to the letter).
Once you're rooted, you can either upgrade to the latest stock Rom and keep your root, or flash any of the custom Roms available in the Dev section.
Good luck.
u can also go to youtube n refer ashwin tutorial how to root...it will help u a lot coz u can see n know what u doing...follow exactly teh instruction n u will not face any problem..happy rooting...
i give the link to help u save time..

Hello.
(First, English is not my native language, sorry for mistakes : I'm french)
(Second, I'm new, but not newb, and love your "Noob at Xda forum" video.)
1 years ago, I bought a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, and thanks to your genius, rooted it and flashed it with stock rom.
Today (Yes, few hours ago!) I bought a brand new Sony Xperia T !
So, I took a look at different thread on how to root it.
But, I'm lost.
There's so many thread, so many different ways, and so many different version.
I require your help on this.
Require : Help on how to Root (And maybe flash my phone to have clean rom ? (Without Operator app?))
Data : Sony Xperia T LT30p
Android 4.0.4
7.0.A.1.303
Sony Live Companion ask me for 7.0.A.3.195 update
Lock Bootloader
Cannot unlock Bootloader.
Bought with Operator "Orange" (french one)

And so on ...
Some thread require unlocked bootloader, some does not work on new version.
My search has failed, that's why I posted here.
Thanks in advance.
Are you sure you read the first 3 posts of the all in one thread properly?
Because the answers you are looking for are there.
Look in post 2 of the all in one thread on how to flash stock firmware
Look in post 3 of the all in one thread to fins the stock firmware files
Look in post 2 of the all in one thread for how to root on 7.0.a.1.303 (Your current firmware)
Look in post 2 of the all in one thread for how to root the latest (7.0.A.3.195) by unlocking your bootloader and flashing a custom kernel.
It is impossible by any means to root the xperia T on the new firmware unless you unlock the bootloader

This is why I required help. (after reading theses threads)
So, should I root on 7.0.A.1.303(current version) and not upgrading ?
Should I flash .1.303 clean Rom, then root and not upgrading ?
(P.S : I almost had trouble with my Arc (almost brick) previously. I did SEUS update, and then read on how to root it. With the actual rooting method, there were trouble with battery (0%). I had to wait for a new root method to come.
This time, I prefer to ask since I don't see any way to do it.)
Thanks.

Yes, if you cannot unlock the bootloader then stay on 7.0.A.1.303 and root using bin4ry's method and DO NOT upgrade.
Its up to you if you want to flash another 7.0.A.1.303 firmware file before you do this.
Alright.
Thanks to you then (Pushed thanks button).
I will try this.
I only whish I could unlock the bootloader

You just learnt it the hard way. Either a) lay out the cash for a "free" phone from a "free" store or b) switch carriers to some less arsed carrier than the all over the world hated orange. Orange is what Vodafone used to be, ruining devices like the plague in medieval times.
I should flash : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918397

You must decide on your own, which firmware you want. Basically they're all the same. Just don't go above .1.303 as you wouldn't be able to root it without the ability to unlock. It may be possible at some point, but a new exploit for 3.195 and above must first be found.

TL != T
Don't flash TL and TX ROMs, boy, you've got a T.
Europe != USA (thankfully)
AFAIK 4G isn't deployed in Europe yet. Neither is it in the USA but americans (partially) call something 4G which actually isn't 4G but simply HSPA or HSPA+. Some carrier does have 4G (LTE) but they already called HSPA/HSPA+ 4G which technically was 3.5G. Or so.
Alright.
Thank you for your help.
Actually, as you said, I have HSPA+ (3G+) (or LTE?)
( Well, With Orange (which seems to fit you perfectly), I had this phone for 1€.
Basically, I will pay 545€ for 1year with this phone (500€) + 6 months of Everything unlimited + 6month of 2hours call + everyhting unlimited.)
Anyway, in my Country, there is no "Good" Operator
Every single one are the same, except for the price.
Thank you for the tip, will mark this thread as solved.
HSPA/HSPA+ is an extension to UMTS. UMTS is considered a 3rd generation mobile telecommunication technology (3G), so HSPA/HSPA+ would be 3.5G if you wish.
LTE, Long Term Evolution is the next step upwards from UMTS and marketed as 4G (although technically not meeting the defined characteristics of a 4th generation mobile telecommunication technology). Whereas UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ is widely deployed in Europe, LTE is not. LTE is an emerging technology and only a very small number of carriers worldwide (!) have set up an LTE network.
Anyway, you got an XPERIA T, TX or TL? Only TL features LTE, hence TL. If you got an XPERIA T, no, you have not got LTE but HSPA+ which the T is capable of.
Readup:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Speed_Packet_Access
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolved_HSPA
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LTE_(telecommunication)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3G
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4G (especially interesting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4G#Deployment_plans)
Allright.
My phone is Xperia T (France) with 3G+ (Or H+, as Orange like to say)
I did not know what was meaning LTE (Now I know, thanks to you ).
I flashed with .1.303 Generic, and rooted (thanks to Bin4ry).
Everything worked as intended (except smarttags and alarms ; I made a post about this).
Thank you for your patience and your wisdom

Well check SUS/PCC for update first, but if there's none there either - Download a 4.2.2 Firmware (there's plenty) and flash with flashtool, there's guide pinned on the forums. Remember not to wipe data if you have important stuff on it.
Search, read and then read some more...
You have been a member here long enough where you should know that creating a Question thread in the Development forum is wrong.
Also, there are numerous threads with answers to your question, including sticky threads.
Hi guys, i'm Darwin from Honduras, Central America. Im newest with my SP 5302
So i have dowloaded the newest firmware 12.1.A.1.201, and i didn't read that i can't root from 4.3 JB.
I read some thread and i can make a downgrade from my current FW. So the thing is i can't find a FW that's fits my phone (country or region), the question is ¿Can i use othe countrys FW in my phone (UK, India for example)? It will crash? I will be able to use my sim card and navigate without problems?
Thanks in advice, you guys are awesome.
PS. Pardon my bad english.
If you are interested in the latest .201 which is rooted, there are some devs developing nice ROMs based on .201 with root.
At the moment I am on purexperience which incorporates Z2 gui, etc and fast. It still has some bugs but I can live with it until something better comes along, if at all. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2691767&page=4)
Otherwise, another dev has put a full .201 in the forum which is rooted (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2704312 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2704009)
Note: you will need to be rooted with CWM recovery in order to install these ROMs. The only way that I know is to downgrade the firmware to old 4.1.2 which enables you to use Doomlord's exploit (V18) after which you can install CWM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658952
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2405933 (for this one you will have to flash .254 full firmware before starting the process)
PS: you don't have to get the ftf that fits your country. Just take CE, SG, AU, UK (if you are comfortable with English) and it will prompt you for your language during setup...After all the downgraded ftf is simply a step to root and will be wiped out when you install .201
you can use stock based ROM, I am curently used existenz 2.1.5, it now also have newer version with xperia sirius features on it.

The radio baseband determines the frequency the phone can receive flashing another region firmware won't affect it if yours is a c5303 I know Brazil is then you will be fine flashing other c5303 fw for example uk. I think its just USA that has a different baseband.

Hello guys,
I am new to the Android community and especially the Rooting section looks really strange to me (but hey, I used to have an iPhone so who am I kidding )
Anyway, I bought an Xperia Z1 and now I'd like to get Root access on my phone. But every tutorial that I found requests, that I already have Root access on a lower OS version. Why? It doesn't make sense to me.
I am currently on unrooted Android 4.4 Kitkat (14.3).
Thanks for your patience with a "newbe"
Read one of the sevral guides in the general section and the development section.
If you are new I advise you to spend some time reading otherwise you could brick your phone. It may seem like a pain, but trust me, spending some time learning will help you
for starters, android is only at 4.4.2 as the latest version, not 14.3 (That's the FW version)
Greg
You downgrade using flashtool and flash a FTF
Look in the FTF mega collection thread in the general section to learn how to do that
The reason is that it is impossible to directly root 4.4.2, you have to downgrade to a rootable version and then upgrade to a prerooted 4.4.3 version
