This is a phone I am highly considering to try as my first Windows Phone. I am going through cricket and wanted to know if anyone has actually updated to 8.1 from stock 8 OS ?
Also how does office perform on this phone ?
I am completely knew to WP of course but seen a thread to "unbrand" the phone. I am assuming this means to remove carrier bloat-ware and have a clean OS installed.

I didn't see that thread , but yes normally it means this will remove bloatware. (not that yyou really need it because all bloat-ware can be easy removed)
with the "preview for developers" app from the store you can easy update too wp8.1 , or just wait abit because MS is rolling out the update "cyan" for nokia's now ( not all but they will follow fast)
Office performs real fast ( but this is a personal opinion )

Nokia 1320 Question
Hi,
Is there a thread that deals with hacking/unlocking and roming of the Nokia Lumina 1320.
I love the phone but having only 4Gb of memory is killing me. If I could get two more gigs I would be happy. If I could get a custom rom I would be even happier
Thank you for any help and advice,
Z

Right now, we don't have a way to hack/unlock any Lumia devices other than the 920 (only with JTAG currently). Efforts to unlock other Lumia WP8 devices will be difficult as Nokia has made changes to the phones themselves that make the process of hacking even harder.

Hey Dreamer3kx,
Sorry for the late response I forgot to update my email so I am just seeing your message it has been a while since I have been here.
I am sure by now you know the answer(s) to you statements, yes 8.1 does but we still have not gotten 8.1 which is what actually brought me here today I came across a article from another site I'm part of wpcentral .com the article was "if you are on Cricket with Nokia 1320 and you want win 8.1 here you go". This is the article http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2515453 did you see it? Have you updated your pone?

I gained more space on my Lumia 1320 and Lumia 640 XL in upgrading to Windows 10 Mobile. Also it is not the final Version of Windows 10 Mobile, just the Insider Preview, it is running well and I do not have any big Problems with it. With Windows 10 Mobile you can select to install Apps on your SD Card and so you keep the Phone Memory free for other things.

Last time I checked a few years ago, there were instructions here on how to root a nokia lumina 1320 but ONLY if it had windows 8.1 and above, not for 8.0 which is what I have. The phone was purchased 2nd hand so needs to be reset anyways. My questions are this:
Is there a way to backup the phone in case of a problem with rooting?
I will have to then install 8.1-is that still available for install?
Once that is done I have to find the program that was developed her for rooting the 1320 that has 8.1 win installed.
Any solutions to these steps with links showing where to get the program is much appreciated. Thanks for reading and any assistance.

Got this idea tonight , I was thinking about this and im sure that this as been done before , is there anyways to install windows phone on an android device such as Samsung Galaxy s. Also are there some restrictions that could make this not able to do so.
If someone knows any thread or tuts this would be apreciated.
Thanks guys
windows
till now.........we cant flash windows7 os on Samsung galaxys............why u want to switch over android........which is best os in the world.
windows for smartphone came and almost gone, nobody even noticed. Android is amazing and best.

The only think I miss from Windows mobile devices is.... Age of Empires!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
Because windows isn't open source, like android, I think that it impossible to port it to other devices.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
Not impossible, it's been ported to HD2. And other phones I believe but i know for sure Windows 7 was not meant to be on HD2
I hate windows phone os
I don't think he was asking or opinions of the OS. I think he was inquiring to see if it was possible. I to would like to try this to see or myself and not take others word for it. I will search for a solution and update this thread with what I find.
Edit: It seems that it is not possible currently. However, there are developers that are working on a solution to that problem The main problem is the hardware that was not intended for Windows that is equipped to run Android OS. Hopefully there is spark at some point. There is a lot of talk though that Microsoft is trying to bully their way into having smartphone manufacturers load thee OS and allowing the consumer to be ale to dual boot. That article can be see over at many tech blogs including Znet.
Till now, there is not any known method to do this. Android OS is the best OS in the world. Almost every application is available for android. Also it is most customisable. I would recommend you to stay with Android and install WP launchers to get windows phone like stuff/looks
It is interesting which ideas we`ve got :good:
In my opinion:
Microsoft is something for my PC @home, and Android have to run on my device ...
One of my friends have one nokia with WP7 ,looks nice and works good ,he says - but for me nothing gets about Android , but it is only my opinion
To ask the thread:
I have never heard of any way to flash WP 7/8 on Android devices ...
Only device that got WP7 and did not run it natively were the Toshiba TG01 and the legendary HD2
So sorry, not happening as it's closed source
if its possible on hd2 its possible on devices using same hardware as of windows phone trying to develop a boot loader which helps wp7 bot on our android , any who one can help us with it ???

it is always nice to running multiple OS on one phone,i think we need new bootloader same exactly like cotulla has done for HD2,this sounds good to start request to cotulla,i heard he was working for MAGLDR bootloader in HTC M7,let us see
I just write all my own apps for my WP... Android OS is a little clumsy and I think it's ugly... let me know if anyone finds out how to do this... I'd buy a galaxy in a minute if it weren't for the crappy OS.

Is there a way to install lumia phone's os to android devices like nokia or other device
"◦Multi-core processor support: As reviewers have noted, Windows Phone runs buttery smooth on phones with a single processor. But piggybacking on the Windows core provides support for multiple cores—so we’re ready for whatever hardware makers dream up."
now alot of people have been under the impression that multicore is the minimum for wp8 when i say that is not true!
windows 8 can run on a pentium 4 or intel atom with a single 1ghz then we will see wp8 devices with single cores. the future "minimum spec"
also
"◦More flexible storage: Windows Phone 8 supports removable MicroSD cards, so you can stuff your phone with extra photos, music, and whatever else is important to you, and then easily move it all onto your PC."
the hd7 has a removable storage already. the only way we wont see a port is if the rom is too large for what we already have. this being said and carefully examined they didnt rule it out. but they didnt want to say yes and OEMs cant sell new devices if the older ones keep selling. so they wont "offically bring the update to wp8"
also it is being observed that sdxc cards are working in android phones so storage issues may not be a problem either for us!
here at xda-developers we have been unoffically updating devices for over a decade! so I dont think we are in the dark, our minds have such strong innovative imaginations we can see the light with our eyes closed!
yes its possible...MS has been testing wp8 on older HTC devices. it showed up in some logs which was recently being leaked on the internet
Besides this, wp8 during the summit conference was shown runnng on a nokia qualcomm prototype which isnt likely to be a S4 but older processor

hey keep hope alive lol. but to be completely honest I see it as very possible. the only limitation would be rom. because in reality windows 8 can run on a single processor so can wp8 it just has support for multiple processors. so we can run the hd7 drivers in compalitbity mode! :fingers-crossed:
the difference between wp8 and wp7 is that wp8 has support for newer hardware. this means that wp8 can run on newer hardware but does not mean it cannot run on older hardware.
The reason Windows Phone 8 might be a possibility is because there have been evidence which show that Microsoft was testing Windows Phone 8 builds on the HD7. Lets wait and see what happens.

yeah lets see what happens..afterall wp7 was ported over to the HD2 without a hitch
If wp8 will not work on hd7 I will use the Android phones
As much as I love my HD7 (I still use it for xbox live games and music it's getting pretty long in the tooth now), I'm looking forward to seeing what HTC does with the new OS (WP8) and even Nokia with their PureView tech! The HD7 imo didn't get the same sort of community backing as the HD2 did, i'd almost bet that the HD2 has more chance of seeing a WP8 rom than the HD7 does, but i'm simply having a joke about.
WP8 on the HD7 will most likely depend on whether or not NT kernel drivers can be written for it. This probably won't be until HTC roms get leaked.

Hi:
I current have an HTC HD2 Telstra, and it came with Windows Mobile. Thanks to the brilliant folks at XDA, I have been successfully running Android, and every time I want to upgrade the type of Android I use, I simply replace the Android folder….simply brilliant.
So I now have no need for Windows Mobile, and am looking to do the same with Windows 8 and Android, and I am trying to find which phone out there is as versatile as the HTC HD2 Telstra, and comes with Windows Phone 8 installed.
How will I know which phone with Windows 8 installed will enable me to also install Android in the same fashion? If I could create the phone, it would be a 5” screen, Windows 8, and a lot of power. Anything close to that would be acceptable, but it must be Windows 8. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Chaz
With Windows Phone 7 there was never a port of Android to any device and given that WP8 employs Secure Boot to make sure only verified OS-code is loaded and executed I highly doubt we will see anything similar to the HD2 with WP8. Aside from that no one would be able to say that beforehand.
No Windows Phones do what you want.
Why not just buy an Android phone if that's what you want (for some inexplicable reason)?

Firstly, Windows 8 does not run on phones.
Secondly, Windows Phone 8 devices will not be able to run Android (thankfully).
Thirdly, no Android device will be able to run Windows Phone 8.
I think you will need 2 separate phones, or you will have to choose one or the other if you only want one phone.

Only if you have an emulator. Windows phone 8 and windows 8 share a common kernel and a lot of cross platform ability however an app will need to be written for the phone or for windows 8. That said in most cases this is just a case of how you compile it or a very small amount of code change so you can expect the growth of windows 8 and windows phone 8 to push each others markets up.

One word...wait... Android for the HD2 did not come out the day the phone was released. The ONLY reason why it had Windows Phone 7 is because Microsoft used it in their testing of WP7, so drivers were leaked and everyone built on it as they learned more. Android was ported to Windows Mobile devices and most, if not all of them were able to run some flavor of Android, even if was just the SDcard boot method.
Time will tell if there will be that magic device that Microsoft MIGHT of used in testing that ran all OS's (WM, WP7 and WP8) and then you might have a earier chance but, I would not count on it.
The only thing you can do is wait, one of the hacker will attempt one device at one point, if they succeed AND release it, you might have it.
Right now, the odds of it happening is very low on phones that have not been released yet and even for months after.
I wish you luck but, if you really want Android more than Windows Phone, I might suggest to just pick up a Android device.
Good luck

There are advantages to each OS. I presently have dual boot Wp7.8 (pdaimatejam) and Android on the same HD2 (with 32gb SDcard). It is just brilliant. I can run either and both the latest in these are very smooth. Got the best of both worlds - pretty unique.
Hello,
I was wondering if anybody has made an android rom that can be flashed onto an SD card and run on a nokia lumia 1520, I've gotten sick of the lack of apps on WP8 but i really like the size and specs of my phone and would love to try out android
So if anyone knows of a devolper that has done one for my phone or knows how I can tweak one to suit it would be great!

There were reports about running W10 on ARM on an 830. How to contact the devs?
I'd like to develop a ROM for it but currently I am working on my midterm exams. I also tried to build some ROMs for my Android devices (Galaxy Tab E SpreadTrum), but failed twice, the third time I mistakely made a recovery for it. If someone adds a detailed guide how to prepare the env., get the device drivers for the sensors etc. If someone is willing to give me some extensive knowlegde or at least a source for the knowledge I'll do it. Alternatively for a faster development you can alert the devs (They've probably noticed this because of the 830 hacks that allow to run W10 for ARM instead of Windows Mobile.).
I was also wondering whether there has been any update on this?
I have seen a couple of links to information that I consider suspicious. For example, there was this link to rooting the 930:
httxs://howto-android.com/how-to-root-the-nokia-lumia-930/
However, it refers to using an Android tool so how is this going to work on a Windows phone? If I am going to do this, then I want to use a method that makes sense, has been tested and is reliable.
I'm at the juncture now where I either need to think about replacing the phone battery or buying a new phone. For replacing the battery to be worthwhile in the long term I would need to replace Win10 with Android. Otherwise, the New Nokia 6 2018 looks reasonable at the budget price level that I am restricted to these days. On the other hand the 930 has been a reliable phone hardware wise and has a good camera, and I think there is still life in it, which is why I am very interested in the answer to this question. If there is an Android ROM for it, then I am eager to give it a go.
