Hello all. Bought my first HTC One (AT&T version, SIM unlocked) used on Craigslist and it's a bit of a puzzle.
It's got hboot 1.44, been htcdev bootloader unlocked, and was running CyanogenMod 11 from the Installer when I got it. It's still S-ON though, and for reasons relating to attempting to get warranty repairs, I'd like to get S-OFF, but haven't had any luck.
I can flash any recovery I like (currently CWM Touch 6.0.4.8 m7), and any rom that I've tried (so far only AOSP-based), but no s-off tool I've tried will work. I downgraded the phone to Cyanogen 10.1 (android 4.2) and tried revone, but it just reboots the phone when I try "revone -P". I've been too scared to just go ahead and try the "rev one -s 0" command.
Firewater and rumrunner won't work on this hboot. I have not tried moonshine yet.
I've read a lot of horror stories on the forums, and I don't want to brick this phone in trying to get s-off. I've heard that Android Revolution HD 31.6 works well with revone, but I've also been too scared to flash that incase I inadvertently update the hboot.
What is my best bet for gaining S-OFF?? I'm no newb to flashing and I am more than comfortable with a commandline, I just don't know what to flash.
Lastly, I need to go back to stock so I can send this phone in for warranty repair, but I don't want to lose S-OFF if I send it away. Is there a way to do this?
UPDATE: got it all sorted. flashed the maximusHD rom (android 4.2.2) from HERE and successfully seized S-OFF with revone. Going back to stock now.

Hi. I had my HTC One unlocked, S-Off, Rooted and I was running ViperOne Rom and everything was running fine but I wanted to return to 100% stock so I could get my 40GB Google Drive. But now I can't get S-Off again, i've unlocked my bootloader and i've tried to S-Off using Rumrunner and various other ways with cmd but it fails everytime. Has anyone else had this problem or am I missing something. Cheers Alex.
Well, I'm usually able to dig myself out of messes I get myself into but this one has had me hunting a few hours. Here's the run-down.
1) S-OFF with 1.44 a while ago, rooted and unlocked bootloader
2) Got camera problem, would like to return phone to stock for warranty
3) Flashed a stock RUU, went fine. Stock recovery and bootloader work fine, hboot was upgraded to 1.55 (my mistake, should have noticed this)
4) Got sidetracked when trying to lock the bootloader and entered fastboot oem lock
So now I have a 're-locked' bootloader on 1.55 with S-OFF. I don't want to unlock through HTCDev, I can't use revone to unlock because I'm on 1.55, and I don't have a custom recovery, and can't flash one because I'm relocked.
Any ideas how I can unlock the bootloader here (or downgrade hboot, I have the zip but can't flash it)? I can probably handle the rest myself, after I smack myself over the head a few times.
The goal here is to have the bootloader 'LOCKED', and I'll then take my chances with S-ON, with the latest firmware but a downgraded (1.44) bootloader before handing it over for warranty purposes.
OK, it looks as though I can patch hboot files OK. Will take a look around for a patched one.
Hboot 1.44 will unlock using revone. Make sure to be on 1.x.x based ROM right after

Sorted, thanks. Found an older ROM that flashed fine with supercid. Think I'll keep S-OFF and just lock the bootloader. With this being a likely hardware issue I'm hoping I'll be fine with just that.
i was running custom rom but decided the blue haze on the camera wasn't doing it for me and turns out htc are able to repair it once i send in
I got to relocked s-on only showing no tampered or anything by flashing ruu
running latest sense rom and hboot 1.56 atm
need to get back to just [locked] showing s-on
this is frustrating me I need help
i unlocked this originally through htc if that matters
You will need s-off to reset the bootloader back to locked instead of re-locked
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app

S-OFF the phone. Then, use the flash the Guru Bootloader Reset zip in TWRP/CWM. From there, you can set it to Locked. But, HBOOT 1.56 has a lot of problems when trying to S-OFF. Its a hit and miss chance. Try using Firewater to S-OFF

Hi all,
When I first got my M7, I unlocked it and installed TWRP to make backups. I had experience doing this with my sensation and followed the guides posted here. When the Sense 6 update came out, I wanted to update, so I was tried using REVONE to remove the TAMPERED and UNLOCKED but it set it to RELOCKED. Apparently, it wasn't compatible with the android version 4.4.2, which I realized too late.
Now, I'm trying to get S-OFF and unlock the bootloader so I can flash an 4.2 rom, then use REVONE and go back to stock. I've tried using nkk71's SuperGUIDE to returning 100% back to stock, but neither Firewater nor Rumrunner will work with my device (HBOOT 1.56) - they both finish early and tell me I'm out of luck.
What's the next possibility? I'm in Asia with the TW stock rom. I can probably bring it to the store and let them handle it, but it'll take up to 7 days to get it completely back to stock. Is there anything else I can try before doing that?
tl;dr: Phone is Stock ASIA TW rom & recovery, HBOOT 1.56, *TAMPERED*, *RELOCKED*, and *S-ON*. Can't flash OTA or get S-OFF with Firewater.
EDIT: Nevermind. Seem to have soft-bricked my phone while attempting to install ARHD. Now no OS and can't load anything except TWRP. ADB Sideload doesn't work, ADB push doesn't work. Guess I'll bring it to the store and see if they can fix it.

If it's not too late, I have been in this situation before. I bought an OTG cable and downloaded a stock ROM guru reset. From there, I successfully S-OFFed my device with HBOOT 1.56 using the firewater method.
Hope this helps
Hi all. I just unlocked my HTC m7 (GSM) with HTCdev.com and then installed TWRP and used that to install SuperSU. After that, I ran Sunshine to get S-OFF, and then I ran Guru Bootloader Reset in order to remove the "tampered" flag. Then I set SuperCID to 11111111, and I think I'm ready to flash a rom (I"m looking at ViperOne, since I used it on my Sensation and liked it).
I'm on hboot 1.61. Is it worth downgrading to 1.44 so that I can easily get s-on/s-off in the future? If so, should I flash the new hboot before or after the rom? Does it matter?
Thanks all. I spent quite a bit of time flashing and testing roms on my HTC Touch Pro and then my HTC Sensation. I've held off for a couple of years, but I'm looking forward to playing around with my M7 again!

Your phone is already S-OFF why would you want to turn it back S-ON? Never go back S-ON, the only time it should be done is before sending the phone for repair under warranty. Going back S-ON is the same as intentionally locking your car with the keys left inside... And even if you go back S-ON why hboot 1.44 should make it easier to achieve S-OFF again? You just paid for Sunshine, you can use it as many time as you want on that phone + If you already have paid for Sunshine, its actually the easiest method to S-OFF your phone on any hboot version.
If I buy a SunShine license, can I use it on multiple phones?
No - one license is good for one device. You can reuse SunShine on that device, if necessary, we however NEVER recommending setting your device S-ON

Another thing to know is that hboot 1.44 is incompatible with windows 8 and 10, so say goodbye to fastboot connectivity (fastboot commands) after flashing it, unless you are using a Mac, Win7 or Linux.
For your last question, it doesn't matter when you flash the hboot, if you need to flash one. Would recommend to stay on 1.61
