I currently do not have a computer because it broke lol but if for some reason I brick my note 3 on mj5 running a 4.4.2 rom would I be able to take it to bestbuy and get them to flash the 4.4.2 update for me to get me back up and running?

Safest Way To Root

Hey everybody, I just got my note 3 this morning. I'm not new to rooting but I don't know the root procedure for this phone. Could someone please guide me in the right direction? My build number ends with MI9 if that helps ..

IF using MI9, use RDLV on it, and quickly, before it gets the OTA update (I'd disconnect it from networks entirely until it was rooted. Don't use RDLV if it's gotten the update!)
If it's not on MI9 anymore, your only options are kingo/vroot. Both of those are not allowed to be linked to on XDA because of suspicions about them being malicious (though many people have used them and reported no issues)
Downloaded rdlv last night left my phone charging woke up to my wife playing on it. She took the update cuz the phone asked her if she wanted to update. :banghead: anyway to downgrade don't really wanna use the other 2 options

No, you cannot downgrade the firmware. I think trying bricks it and trips knox warranty void.

SM-N9005 firmware

Has anyone ever tried flashing the international version nc2 firmware on to their SM-N900A? If so did the phone work? Or did it brick? I'm just curious. Was thinking of doing this but, I don't want to brick my phone. Don't care if I trip knox.

Stock firmware will screw your phone. Only use a custom ported ROM.
Why would you want to flash the stock international firmware anyways.

I've always found the international versions to run games and apps so much more smoother ever since the captivate days. I like to play games and run a lot of apps on my phone and for some reason international versions always out performs the at&t bloated crap.

So what if I would use a kernel for the n9005 to get custom recovery. Would that screw up my phone aswell?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes. Locked bootloaders. If you were able to successfully flash it (you wouldn't) it would brick. You would need to unlock the bootloaders (can't be done at this time) to be able to flash a different kernel.
If any of this were possible (it's not) we would not be having a problem.

Basically... There is a lot more than just flashing required to make stuff work. The code has to be modified to run on our device, as well as bootloaders being signed and locked to each phone.

Thanks graydiggy for your help. If that's the case I would rather just use all these nice ROMs that all these fine devs have prepared for us. Also what tutorial would you recommend to learn how to port ROMs to our device? I've been wanting to learn this for a long while now.

I have no idea about tutorials for software...
But this is a good place to start http://xda-university.com
I'm more into hardware mods than anything.

Yes. If you put an at&t simcard into your phone as long as it's the SM-N900A you should be able to update to 4.4.2.

If you install 4.4.2 you won't be able to root or anything else for that matter. If you really want to update to 4.4.2 don't worry. It won't erase anything on your phone.

Just rooting alone, and not doing any modifications or running rooted apps messed up your phone, right?
No I had rooted to do the download booster mod but didnt in the end cause I use isis and when I couldnt use It decided to do a odin refresh flash back to stock

I would not waste my time with the upgrade.. It has too many issues.. I am rooted and on JB and love it.. I will never upgrade to KK.

Upgrade to mlg kitkat instead of the official kitkat there are some good roms for mlg and you can go back to jb if you want .
