All,
This has already been asked, but I have been unable to find it. Any help in step by step directions, or a link to the thread I have been unable to find would be appreciated.
I have the AT&T Note 3
Safestrap version 3.72
Android Version 4.4.2
Baseband Version N900AUCUCNC2
Kernel Version 3.4.0-722276
Build 49H.N900AUCUCNC2
I rooted my phone according to http://galaxynote3root.com/galaxy-note-3-root/how-to-root-attverizon-galaxy-note-3-on-android-4-4-2/
After rooting, I am no longer able to encrypt the phone.
When I go into Safestrap and select Stock ROM, it tells me unable to mount /system, /systemorig.
I have tried to use Odin to reinstall, but get an error when trying to write.
All the instructions mention to reinstall from MJ5 partitions and upgrade, but I am not sure if I can since I have already upgraded (some threads hint at this)
Here is where I DLed the files for Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559715
What I would like to do, is wipe the phone to factory including the bootloader.
Thanks in advance.
you are on the wrong safestrap .you need to be on 3.75 . Also if im reading your post correctly your on the ota kitkat and your trying to restore to mj5 which is jelly bean and you cant go back if your on the new bootloader if thats the case then the restore will never work .

I do not want to go back, I want the factory kitkat. I tried updating the safestrap to 3.75, but was unable to.
Were you on jb and took the ota to get kitkat . Uninstall the old ss and delete all signs of the old ss then download and install 3.75 and it should work

Yes, started from JB, then got kitkat. Uninstalling old ss does not remove from reboot, and installing new does not changed recovery version of ss.
You cant do a restore to mj5 if you took the update because of the new bootloader that came with it thats for people who are still on the old bootloader . how i got 3.75 was i first uninstalled 3.72 then deleted it then rebooted without any ss then i downloaded 3.75 then installed it then rebooted and it worked .maybe try that . Read some more on this forum cause i think there are some posts from people having that issue that may help if what i said doesnt work.

first thing is that im rooted and tried to update the small "pre kitkat" update and all goes good til it gets to 25% then it says update fails and ive searched til i cant go anymore about ways to fix it so my question is that can att force update my phone to kitkat or should i wait til ss is updated for kitkat and if thats the case will i be able to flash in rom slot one and leave the stock slot alone ? im new to all this flashing roms and i dont have a computer so im trying to do everything from my phone any and all suggestions will help.
In on the same boat but I'm not rooted. It goes to 25 and then gets interrupted.

Borrow a friend's pc or go to a library and use Samsung Kies, but you will lose root.
This is most likely because you deleted some the system apps that came with the stock rom..... This is why I never delete them only freeze with titanium backup! This happen to me on Ml9 so I had to restore stock rom reroot put super su in survival mode and then take the update!

Kies is just going to tell you that your firmware is up to date. Either factory reset or you may have to use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559715 < This is how I had to do it.
So if I am rooted and deleted the AT&T bloat apps, I can't install the KitKit update? What I unroot completely? I know that won't bring back the garbage AT&T apps back, but would I be able to OTA to kitkat then?

You will not be able to ota unless you do a full restore. You also must have att sim card. At&t is just dirty like that.

Wow. Anyway, I was rooted, but had Wanam installed and successfully updated to Nb4. I had the fake system status set to official. I was alwasy under the impression if it said Official you could update.
And great, because now we all have to follow a really complicated guide to restore back to MJ5 if we want kitkat.
I was rooted on mj5 no wanam or anything and my phone update to nb4
It didn't even ask.
What you probably did was delete the att update software so now it's not even looking.

I don't think being rooted affects your updating. I have read many people accidentally updating and loosing their root. If you couldn't update with root, people wouldn't freeze at&t update.
ive tried unrooting factory reset andthe only thing i can think of is that ive deleted something . i guess the lesson learned is juat freeze apps instead of deleting them

Problems
what ive done to phone since ive had it.
Ive Kingo rooted
I deleted att bloatware
backed up first to TB
Have TB for 2 years so im not new to it.
I made back up on TB
did a factory data reset
tried to do the OTA update for the first 38mb file that gets you ready for 4.4
it never makes it past 25% install then fails
on a sidenote my phone says my phone stop a preventive download for safety reasons it shows a shield on notification tray hope that sounds familiar
Went to kingo to re root to install TB again to restore files all lost blank saves
So my phone works but its not updatable and I can reinstall all my apps i just cant update

Is it a modded rom like original. Theres over 300+ pages to go over if I new what key word to search that thread to find faster would be great.
Im partically looking for stock firmware 4.3 mj5 if its out there. Maybe Odin it then i could hopefully update then.T
Thanks
Well... That is where the problem is. We have a "revert to MJ5" thread, but it is modified stock to allow root. The OTA will fail with that. There are multiple fixes available for many circumstances... There really is now key word to use... Just read over the pages that start at around noon yesterday. That will greatly reduce what you are digging through.

If you installed the leaked kk and reverted back to 4.3 like many of us. You succeeded corrupting system files. Revert back to mj5. Without touching anything check for an update. Go the the original thread and look to a tutorial that asrael can't remember what the second part of his user name was. But replace all the Knox apps and a system file he talks about on his post. Then you should be able to get kk installed. It worked for me.

No its a factory update to 4.3 no Mods on rom just rooted
Unrooting seems to leave some junk behind that prevents the update.
Search for megalomaniac's threads. He has one with a Safestrap backup of a stock MJ5. Install Safestrap (you'll have to be rooted), install the MJ5 backup to the stock slot (it's 5 files - download them and put them into a folder on your SD card named MJ5 or something that makes sense to you). When you reboot, you'll be booting to a new installation of MJ5. Set it up, google account, at least, and you'll almost immediately get the NB4 update. (If Safestrap is still installed, clear data and cache and uninstall it - I can't recall if it is.) After that it should accept the 4.4.2 update.
If not, you can bring it to a Best Buy Samsung kiosk. The phone will look just like a normal untouched NB4 phone. They can flash NB4 to it, and theirs will accept the 4.4.2 update. They know there have been problems (even with totally stock phones), so there shouldn't be any problem - as long as you play dumb. "Why can't I get Kit Kat on my phone?"
I'll try best buy till easy solutions come available. My biggest concern is gps sucking and it's not worth to have a molded rom

Agree, KnoxRaid GPS is excellent.
Hey there.. was using Knoxraid.. a new Alliance ROM hit and I installed it. Nope.. I did not go back to Jellybean first so I had an endless NFC quit working message on my phone when I tried to boot. Couldn't go back to KR because the root wasn't showing up in recovery and I don't have an SD card. Long story short.. I reinstalled stock Kitkat 4.4.2 through ODIN and now the phone is not rooted. Kingo root doesn't do it. Is there a method yet to root 4.4.2?
thx!

Unfortunately stock roms can't go back. Builds ending with NC2 can't revert to NB4, MJ5, nor MI9. Once root is obtained we'll be able to install safestrap and have more options then. But we have to patiently wait for root access.

No Texts
So, I'm back up and running on MJ5 -- everything seems fine.. except:
The phone constantly says roaming not on and
I cannot send or receive texts.
When I check mobile networks -- CDMA settings are there.. when I search for APNs -- I find them and the ATT settings appear to be right.
any ideas?
thx
Helpp!
I tried the MJ5 restore with my build number ending in MLG but my phone gets stuck on the Samsung Note 3 logo! I tried to wipe the data and factory reset but it doesn't work. I always have to use the oneclick to go back to MLG I want to root but there is no available way to nor can I flash roms. I'm stuck and I think its because of my bootloaders! Does anyone have a fix?
I just successfully Odin'd back to stock 4.4.2 and updated to 4.4.4. Now that I want to get rooted/a custom recovery again, is it safe to root via towelroot and then install safestrap?
I imagine this should be okay, but I'd rather just ask first before I brick my phone, and googling it doesn't seem to pull up an answer.
As always, thanks y'all.
safestrap doesnt work with 4.4.4. and i dont believe root does. thats why in the other thread there is a way to update to 4.4.4 and keep root but no more safestrap recovery for now. and no way back to 4.4.2
i kind of wish i didnt update so soon as i lost the ability to save files to my external sd now, there was a fix for 4.4.2 but no longer works on the new 4.4.4
So do you have a link to the process that you used to Odin back to stock that worked ?
this is the thread I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/how-to-root-n900aucudnj5-t2948355 but I was still on 4.4.2, once on 4.4.4 you cant flash back because of the kernel. if anyone else is reading this please correct me if I am wrong once on 4.4.4 we cant go back even with oden to 4.4.2

You can Odin back to factory stock NC2 at anytime, regardless of the method used to update to NJ5 4.4.4.
Hi
I searched forum and got really confused how to root 4.4.4 all the instruction I find is kind all about 4.4.2
i search on galaxynote3root.com/galaxy-note-3-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-3/
the direction point AT&T N900A to 4.4.2 link not 4.4.4. so i am totally lost, i tried download towelroot it says device not supported. so i am completely lost, I rooted my S1 and S3 before no problem but when I just got my note 3 and updated to 4.4.4 I am completely lost
Please help me
Thank you!
4.4.4 is tricky.
You need to use the Odin software to go back to 4.4.2 nc2 firmware.
Then you install and run towelroot.
Then you install safe strap.
Then busybox
Now you download the update from this
Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=57729221
Now you boot into safestrap to apply the update.. The update is 4.4.4 with old kernel
Then you install the kernel for 4.4.4 via Odin.
Note: I haven't done this yet since I just stayed on 4.4.2.

That's what I've done. So yeah good plan.
Use this link it isn't exactly what you want but it shows how to use Odin and has the nc2 file hiding in there.
