The title says it all! Name the top 3 reasons you like Android over Apple! Only 3 and "Everything" is not an answer! And if your answer is that you prefer Apple, leave and don't come back!! Lol, jk.......... No but seriously, GET OUT!! :what:
Here is mine:
1)Widgets
2)Bigger, better screens
3)SD cards
Honorable Mention: Swype typing on keyboards. But apple is now allowing that so it doesn't count.
What do you think?

No seriously I really agree with you. I never really used iPhone, but I once tried to help a friend having problems with his iPhone 3G so here is a short story about it:
Neither Facebook nor Whatsapp were working on his phone. The both apps that was the main reason for him to get a smartphone. He received it as a gift and was happy first but should later learn why it was a gift. The thing is iPhone changed the cpu structure or something on later models and released a new OS for that. Of course this new OS doesn't work on his phone. Following the new OS both Facebook and Whatsapp released new versions of their app which also wouldn't work on his old OS. We searched and found older working versions of the apps installed them and they started up with something like "There is a new version available. Please update before continuing.". Then we tried the existing iOS cracks which promised to solve such problems. And on them we could successfully install Facebook and get it working. We installed Whatsapp and on the phone verification it told us that the servers are not activating such old versions anymore... And we also couldn't restore the backed up contacts, sms etc. for some reason.
It was such a mess. In the end he reinstalled standard iOS for his phone to restore the backup and now suffers from this creepy, subjecting creation of hell.
I really never would use such a restrictive system nor pay money for it. I rather would change back to my Nokia 2600. :cyclops:
Custom roms +1
Better apps/market
Better hardware
Number one reason.... XDA developers. Com
- Customizable. (I can make it look the way I want, not the way Apple makes it look for millions of people.)
- Freedom.
- XDA.
And the hardware is much, much better.

Hey Guys,
I'm a long time blackberry user and I've gone through at least a half dozen over the years.
I'm currently using the Blackberry Bold 9900, which I suppose is the current flagship model.
I bought the Playbook tablet long ago, unfortunately even after the '2.0 update' it's basically a paperweight and almost useless. In my frustration I bought a kindle fire, and was very impressed. There's a very active dev community, and in no time I had it rooted and was testing out different mods and kernels. Lots of fun.
This got me thinking about getting a more competent android device, the fire is good but I'd be interested to see what a serious device could do. I've been waiting forever to get a tablet with a decent digitizer/stylus and was immediately interested by the Galaxy Note (and later the Galaxy Note 10.1).
I've been seriously considering getting the Galaxy Note as a second phone and giving it a go. However, I still don't understand why I would want or need such a large and powerful device.
Typing on a touchscreen is pretty terrible. Yeah everyone says you get used to it, but I could bang out 50wpm in the dark with my hands behind my back on my blackberry.
I had the iPhone 3GS and I hated it so much I threw it out of the window on the highway. What a nightmare.
Secondly, I only ever use my bb to: email, bbm, twitter, and occasionally make calls.
So I suppose my question is.. Other than the fun that is hacking up the phone/tablet and customizing it. What's the point? Why does one need a device like this? What do you do with it to justify having it? What apps do you need/use on a daily basis that need two cores and a HD screen?
As a consumer, I want one. But as a rational person I don't know what I would use it for. I only use my kindle fire to play crappy time killer games on the treadmill. What's the point?
Thanks for your time.
Android has the ability to customize everything to such an extent that basic, you made the phone. That's what everyone loves about it. You can the look, feel, and functionality all to your liking.
Also, you have the option of the three main android version which are: Stock (can be seen on the galaxy nexus) HTC Sense (can be seen on all HTC phones) and MIUI (a custom rom that extends the customization ability even further with has themes for EVERY aspect e.x. The dialer, messaging app, notification bar, lock screen, etc)
You should go your local bestbuy and play with the phones. Android is a great experience.
In reference to your apps that you like, there are many email and twitter apps, all with different levels of functionality, and being that you're social, you'll enjoy widgets that allow you to send a tweet quickly, right from your home screen. When you finally leave BBM, you'll realize that it's not so important. There is an app called Talk, it's just like BBM, only for android. Texting is also just as good.
I hope I helped in your decision and enlightened your image of Android.
Good luck!
I asked myself these very same questions before purchasing a true smartphone, and sadly it turns out to be a life eater. You can do almost anything on the phone. I use mine mainly for music, news reading, and playing games. But everyone always finds different things useful in their phone. I can almost guarantee you won't regret getting the Note. That is if you can deal with that massively beautiful screen.
Thank you kindly for the responses KayxGee1 and JustinUhhh.
I think I will take the leap, and try it out for at least one month.
I went from BB OS to Android and could not be happier. Give it a try, the positives will likely outweigh any negatives for you.
It all depends on what you do. If you want to be able to play high end games, be able to have the latest software for a good while and be able to keep up with the rest for another year then you should get the note. If none of the above matter then any simple android device should do.
$1 gets you a reply
Overall Android just gives you an experience that is designed for you, couldn't be happier with it.
Honestly I see Blackberrys at the end of the smart phone train. I love Android cause it is sleek and fun to use!
Android can be a portable office, a portable arcade, or a portable jukebox. For geeks the customizability is an attraction in itself. If you travel a lot you really can't beat it as a mobile commumication center. It's really whatever you make of it.
Made the jump, and one week later.. It's going great! The xda community is fantastic, and the hardware is unreal. Cheers guys!

I really don't ever see this changing because google will never take control of their product. But over the past few weeks I have been noticing that the only phones people really know about are the iphone and samsung s3. Like if i tell people about what a nexus is and why it's better they just look at me crazy like I'm trying to pitch them and I'm the one out of touch.
Google releases a 300 dollar phone that is hard to order, on half the carriers, lacks storage and LTE and they this is going to work. It makes me sick that touchwiz is the face of android. I wonder how google feels about this.
I don't really care much what stupid people think my phone's awsome, wooohooo

Google is new to the hardware market. Sure, they sold already 4 Nexus devices, but the Nexus One, Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus are developer / nerd / android lover devices and not a device for everyone like the Nexus 4.
Google made mistakes, though. Really bad mistaked. The ordering is bad, no 32 GB Nexus 4, Android 4.2 is bad and create weird issues. I hope a 4.2.1 update will come soon and fix the problems with my Nexus 4 (USB OTG, Random ANRs, Touchscreen Sensivity).
Samsung spent a ton on marketing. They deserve to get some fruit from their labors.

Remember when HTC was the face of Android? Remember when Sense (not the Windows version) was first unveiled along with the HTC Hero? How about the Evo and it's massive (at the time) 4.3in screen? Samsung being in the spotlight now only pushes the other manufacturers to work harder on their new devices and marketing schemes. The other big Android companies will also get their time to shine at some point, but that's not what the Nexus line is about. The Nexus line is really built for Devs, people like us who frequent XDA, and for Google to set the standard for what OEMs should strive for.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Nope.
Samsung have amazing build quality, some people don't like plastic but the build quality is second to none. The amount of sales and the few returns they have proves this and Apple don't choose Samsung to make the insides of their products because they suck.
Also TouchWiz is great, I don't see why people hate on it so much. Samsung make their phones easy to load new roms, they don't try to stop you from doing it like some. Also when I try to go back to stock Android after using TouchWiz.... I can't because stock Android, even 4.2 is missing so many amazing features. I mean the Note 2's Pen functionality and the PiP and multiple windows is worth TouchWiz alone.
Pointless thread - nothing to do with the Nexus 4
Should be in the Android forum

About as much as I care that Microsoft is the face of the operating system market.
The general population can keep using what they want, there is always going to be power users who want to tweak and automate everything they can to work best for them.
I'll happily use my AOSP ROMs and Gentoo while the general population happily uses Touchwiz and Windows.
People need to stop saying that the Nexus line is for developers and geeks. That really hasn't been true for years now. That ended when carriers started selling Nexus branded phones in retail stores and online (pretty much since the Nexus S). The Galaxy Nexus was just some weird "Galaxy S II.5" phone offering the stock experience and the Nexus S was the precursor to the Galaxy S II.
This is the Nexus 4 General forum, for news, tips, guides, howtos, etc relating to LG & Google's Nexus 4.

Hahaha well in the next motorola X google put an sd card and made u all a fool by selling u the old crapy LG thing in the name of nexus.
Think with a cool mind. Do we really needed the jelly bean. What difference is there b/w a vanilla ics and vanilla JB. just some butter smooth thing. Which they coukd have tweaked on the ics with a minor update.
You people who are buying nexus in the name of googles fast updates will learn soon that its just a gimmick. Now talk about other vendors
Like htc, samsung and sony, atleast they put some added features on their devices which are mire useful than the stripped android by google and soon this new flavor craze will be over.
Let the motorola X come after 2 months and then u people will feel cheated. I agree they have a low price tag but just to sell the crap LG has made. Thats why soon people will move to windows or bb10.
Android is just popular among geeks because of xda and flashable rom. But for professionals who must keep their phone in order for day to day activity and those who actually make up the majority. Its charm is almost over.

Don't quote me on this, but won't the Motorola X be 2x as expensive? I love this device because it was so cheap to buy, yet has the performance that just blows away your Note and most other phones on the market. Now, go back to your GNote forums please.
AW: Lg nexus 4 is it a true beast
This Device is just a beast. My girlfriend owns the SGS3 and I have to say "Hell yeah!" the colours are awesome, the Samsung stuff looks funny and so on.. But for daily use I prefer the N4. Its smoother and there are not tons of features which I just dont need. If I miss a feature, then I can say, I got a Nexus. I flash it. I just like Android, also for business tasks.

Bull****. My nexus 4 is completely stock and I have no intention of ever rooting it. Runs like a dream. You're just p*ssed off that your sh*tty Galaxy Note doesn't have official JB yet. You are probably also annoyed that your stupid Note had the defective eMMC chip which destroyed the phone when you tried to load up some sh*tty hacky ICS rom with a broken hacky HWComp.
Anyway have fun waiting til March aka December in Samsung's calendar for another buggy 4.2.1 leak. Have fun with bindowsphone and RimjobBB10.
And get a job so you can buy a new phone and not have to walk around pretending your broken Note is actually working.

Android, even at 4.4.2 and the computing power of the Nexus 5, still can't compete with iOS for smoothness. Using a friend's iPhone 5 is a revelation. What with "project butter" and all that hype, continuous revision of the OS, and continuous improvement in the hardware, I would have expected iOS and Android to have been more comparable in performance by now. Eric Schmidt and the boys should carry an iPhone and use it some of the time, to see what they're up against.
My 16Gb Nexus 5 stock, unrooted, with relatively few apps, no music, no games, and a lot of free memory.

My opinion: People who still complain about performance (as OP calls it "smoothness" ) on an android high end phone should either learn how to set up their device (no rooting required), or move on to the next platform. You never know, they might even allow you to change the wallpaper, hell yeah :good:

if you dont like the nexus 5 get a Google Play Edition device HTC one
like with any product launch expect some issues.
I just came from an iPhone 4S, wife has the iPhone 5 and my roommates wife has the 5S. I honestly switched to the Nexus 5 because I wanted to try Android out without any bloatware, and I liked the screen size. As of right now I don't mind being out of the ecosystem with iMessaging, but who knows, maybe soon I will.
I'm enjoying rooting, installing CM11, and learning what I can do with Android. I love iOS, but the 3.5-4" screen size is old school now and I probably won't go back unless they update to a bigger size screen.
Last time I used Android was Jellybean on a Samsung Note 1, I bought it, switched to it and in a day switched back to the iPhone. I think KitKat is awesome, maybe I didn't play with the features of Jellybean, but I didn't know it can do what it does on my Nexus 5.
The smoothness on the iPhone is mainly due to slow animations(Apple made them slow on purpose), pseudo-multitasking(apps in memory are frozen after some time to prevent it from running in background), better optimization(I agree that Android needs better optimization) and a very simple and basic application grid(no widgets, etc)
Wait till art kicks into release. You'll be drooling over our smoothness

What's an "iPhone"?
My nexus 5 is smooooth and I am getting an awesome amount of standby time now with LTE/wifi on thanks to Franco and Cataclysm. to bad you aren't experiencing the same.
I detect some serious iFan butturt. Don't like the nexus 5? Sell it, save up for the rest of the year, and maybe you can buy an iPhone. I think anyone who knows what they're talking about prefers the highly customisable and open sourced Linux based Android, to the locked, blank, outdated and proprietary iOS. this is coming from someone who just ditched an iPad 4th gen for the new Nexus 7.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Does the op think that people in the nexus 5 forum are going to agree as a majority, nah.
Join an iphone forum and post your opinion there, good point that someone made with the slow animation speed on ios, if you do the same on android it does give the same effect that apple want their users to have i believe its called the "ios feel" some ass like that.
Hmmm "Way inferior to ios" is ridiculous, why do i keep looking in the general section when all i see is donkey threads like this one.
A friend of mine who was coming from an iPhone 5 said his new N5 had some lags and frame skips, especially while opening the multitasking view. After I made him switch to ART he's not complaining anymore about smoothness, so try getting rid of Dalvik runtime, then head back here and post your (updated) comments
Where is the lag that people are talking about?! I had the 5S for a few days and using chrome on it was like using android 1.6. The whole os crashed way more than android and even safari had some lag to it.
Armando Ferreira did a video comparing 4.4 and ios7 and he saw the same thing.

Ios7 actually has real multitasking now, so ill give them that. Instead of comparing android to ios all the time, I actually think that android needs to become like wp8 more. Even the lowest end windows phone can run great. The rest of the os is junk, but the core of it is pretty good fi you ask me.
Android 4.4.2 is already as smooth as iOS.
Just kinda disappointed that it did not stand-out to me. Nothing impressive or eye-catching about it. I may wait for the Note "7" in August . . .

You must have a lot of free time.
Haha. I'm subscribed to this forum, as I had every intention of upgrading to the 10, just as I have in the past with every other HTC phone since the OG Evo. I am an HTC fanboy.
But, let's be realistic: the 10 is nothing fantastic. HTC has once again stuck to dull changes, that may very well bankrupt their company.
Their biggest marketing is chamferred edges? Really? Don't get me wrong, the OG Evo was an "Evolution" in technology, but it seems like HTC is done with the ground-breaking ideas it once cornered the market with.
I stay-up on all the tech articles on all forms of technology, and I truly believe HTC dropped the ball on this phone, especially with the Note 7 and iPhone 7 coming-out. It may very well be just Sammy vs. Apple very soon.

So yeah, being realistic, I don't agree with you. To me this phone is fantastic! I would like to point out that being realistic is NOT comparing a phone to phones that are not released yet. That is called unrealistic. Anyways we get it, you don't like it. Cool. I am absolutely loving my 10.

I wouldn't say I'm blown away w/ the 10 but I do love it, but I also loved the M9...honestly I don't know what it would take to really wow me on a smartphone...I am happy w/ updated specs/hardware & software features...I think HTC made a good move streamlining & using more stock google features, running stock is no longer unbearable.

What up omj,I've had the m7,m8,m9 on sprint and I loved them all,the only problem I had was on the m9 was that I had data connectivity stop working and I would have to reboot the phone to get it to start working again several times a day when my m9 connected to band 41.
Has there been any reports of this issue also occurring on the HTC 10?

And because of that I had to get back on my m8,Has there been any reports of this issue also occurring on the HTC 10?
Have not had a single issue with this phone. And it has the camera we all dreamed that HTC would use in a phone.
Buy the phone that makes you happy. I for one love the 10. Can finally use sense widgets with different launchers and whole sense feel is stock Android like. I have a feeling HTC will be pushing updates a lot faster now because of it.

I'm not dogging the phone guys. Come-on, give me some slack here . . .
But, that's the thing that everyone asks me: what would it take to "wow" me, and I almost wonder if it can no-longer be done. Android is the same thing, over & over again. Idk, I guess what I want to see from a OS standpoint is like jumping from Windows 3.1 to Windows 10. I want to see a complete refresh. And, I expect the same from HTC. Having the same exact design as the M phone's, with minor hardware upgrades does not have me salivating.
I want another revolutionary HTC phone like the OG Evo, and I truly think Samsung is coming out with something that will blow the socks off any competition.

What wow'ed me was the camera and fingerprint scanner. That was enough for me, HTC did make it hard for me to theme but now everyone can be a themer. It is a nice upgrade from the M9 to me. Dude get what you want, you have to live with it.
Dude the next big tech jump will be flexible phones. That's about it. What else can you geek into a phone? What do you wish the phone would have? It ain't happening. We are at the apex of these things and all that can be done is cosmetic. The OS is constantly changing and will always include new innovative changes. But nothing is going to drastically change for awhile. They'll get slimmer, lighter, faster, last longer in bed, but that's about it. So just pick a phone and enjoy it because in 6 months something will be out that's better any way.

When some sort of AI and VR is is somehow built into OS, maybe then. But for now, this is what we got. And the sd820 is fast as hell, and hard to imagine it disappointing anyone

Well, two weeks till the Note 7 is announced. I honestly hope the specs on it are not all they're cracked-up to be, as it will push me to get the 10. Sammy's have **** for support, as the bootloaders are locked. My brother and buddy both have the S7 Edge. Buddy loves it, brother says "ehh". He switches phones every couple of months though. He has his eyes on the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro with Google Tango. He's kinda like me, he gets bored quickly. I'll never switch to an iPhone though.
The next Nexus intrigues me, especially if HTC is making one . . .
