[Q] Camera not going fullscreen? - Verizon LG G2

Hello Guys,
I have the VS980 running XDABBEB VS98024A rom. Everything has been smooth for months until today. I brought up the camera from the main screen. The initial logo is centered but when the camera starts there is a black border around the right and bottom portion of the screen. I havent changed any of the DPI settings and I have reset the camera in the menu. I also have tried clearing the cache and deleting the data from application manager with no luck. My navigation buttons and status bar are present now and i dont remember them being there before. The pictures still come out the right size and the gallery operates full screen but just the camera itself isnt. I tried to take a screenshot of it but it just took pictures. Is there any clue as to what has happened? No new apps or downloads recently. A really frustrating and random event. I use my phones camera constantly. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you

If you have it in 13mp the aspect ratio is different and puts black borders on the camera.

Thanks for the reply. It was in the 10mp setting. Turns out my app setting module had updated without my knowledge and changed the UIs DPI making the camera smaller. I just didn't know. Changed the UI back to stock 480 and everything is fine. 4hrs of searching later lol

Warning for those who use "screen filter"

It's a great app that dims the screen and make it easier for the eyes, but I found one major bug today. While the filter is on, you wouldn't be able to install any apk's. The button is there, but you can't click it, you can only cancel. Basically it feels like your touchscreen has a dead spot right on the button.
Anyways I was panicking thinking my nexus 7 went crazy, and I uninstalled a lot of apps just to find the culprit. So this is just hoping no one else panic like I did. I also already emailed the developer.
1. It was discussed before, use search.
2. Stop using that crappy app and use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.omegacentauri.ScreenDim.Full for reading.

Um, I use that app, but it doesn't dim it lower than the system does. I just use it to quickly adjust the brightness instead of going into the settings.
EDIT: Yeah, I'm an idiot. That's not the same app I use. Just looks very, very similar. None the less, I tried the free version and it did not get noticeably dimmer.
I'm using the app '2x battery' which also has a screen filter feature, no problems in use, also seeing as I paid up for it it allows to filter by colours, so have set it to fade in a purply filter which basically reduces the green tinge my screen has, took some fiddling to get nice result but got double whammy of screen a little dimmer for indoor use and better colour balance, no lag or Faff so far.
Free version just allows a standard dimmer fine for most scenarios

Well I think screen filter is simple and it e works very well. I'm going to continue to use it, just have to turn it off if I'm installing apk's
I use 'Night Mode'

I am using screen filter with Sony bravia engine and it all works great. screen filter still gets blurry at lower dimness though.
Try Root dim or Voodoo display filter. Both are great for the purpose.

This thread I'm only taking about the specific app named "screen filter" though, just so people won't get confused. It works great btw, the screen can get as dim as you want.

The app you want to use is Custom Auto Brightness by Dmitry Matuzko. It lets you set brightness levels based on your light sensor and has the option to use screen brightnesses lower than the programmed limit without using overlays. Obviously you won't be able to go lower than the hardwares limit, but in most cases the manufacturer sets the software limit much higher than the hardware limit.
Onibabar UpdateUpdate
Thanks for posting this thread! I don't even use a "screen filtering" app BUT I was having the same issue were my INSTALL BUTTON was no longer working, and because of this thread I now knew at what sort of 3rd party apps to start looking at. At first I thought it was the ROM I was on, then I thought it was only on 4.2.2 ROMs since it happened on more then one of my setups, and finally, I thought it was a Mod I always use, that gives my phone inverted apps. In the end though, it turned out to be the latest update to the Onibabar app from the Play Store. Its a app that places a battery bar on your screen and the latest update allows it to be positioned going down on either the right or left side of the screen, in addition to the top or bottom. So whenever its set to go on the left or right side, it disables the INSTALL BUTTON when attempting to install an app from a file explorer...

Sony Xperia T on Bell Screen flickering.

Now I'm on the latest stock software 4.1.2 but I'm rooted. All I did was install titanium backup.....anyways
The screens color flickers when in androids gradient screen. You know the splash screen when an app loads? The blue grey gradient? Flickers like mad. Also, I feel like the Bravia engine is always on and affecting the ui. Brightness will change by itself and so will the color sometimes. This didn't happen when I played a game!!! Software issue? I also loaded up gradient images in Google no issue there.
It's annoying, whenever a grey android menu pops up sometimes the brightness and color will dim then go back up again when I exit the prompt or menu. Help??
Ugh like right now, the loading circle spun when I posted this topic. When it disappeared my screen brightened up.

Prompts or menu things like this dim my brightness and color. Then when I exit it the brightness shoots right back up and color as well.
Is the brightness set to auto? Try setting manual brightness.
Edit : bootloader unlocked?

Brava engine and auto brightness turned off, brightness set to max
Fir example you press the power button and the menu opens right? You don't shut off and exit the menu. The brightness seems to have dimmed but goes back up again. This happened whenever grey menu pops up I think. Or when I pull down the notification center and exit it, the brightness seems to have dimmed.as well but goes back up again after.
How can I check fir bootloader unlock?

I'm sorry that I don't know what's exactly happening on your phone right now.
You could try resetting your phone to default settings and see if the problem still persists.
And forget about the bootloader part.
Sent from my LT29i using xda app-developers app
Ah it's okay, I've tried that. It seems like an overly aggressive Bravia Engine/auto brightness, except it doesn't apply to just photos and videos but the system as well.

on my xperia t it looks like the background ui elements get dimmed while foreground elements, like popups are still bright. This looks like a compositing effects with a nice dim transition and this looks pretty normal to me.
Why is my xperia t u able to render gradient images properly?
I mean the screen shots are low quality but clearly you can see that the edges of the glow look bad.

[FIX] Fixing an app's display after changing LCD Density through build prop editor.

Here is what I did to fix it. In the first picture you can see that after i chamged the lcd density and did a reboot my camera is off positioned and need to press to the left of the buttons for it to work.
What I did to fix it was to change the dpi to 480 in App Settings xposed module. Example of what I did in next picture than the outcome in the one after that.
This may have been obvious but took a bit for a little noob like me. Hope this helps those who are also having trouble.
In the last picture is the module for exposed i used.

I put the wrong picture for the outcome.
Here is the correct one. My, bad.

not working here
Hey I tried exactly what you did and my camera is still appearing in the little window. Is there another setting than the dpi to change?

Make sure to save it after setting the dpi. Then close the camera completely and reopen.

DPI?

Is it just me or just everything seem really big on this phone even with the font set to small? I feel like my S5 can fit a ton more content on the screen and they are supposed to be the same resolution. I.e. my keyboard takes up almost half the screen on the X. It feels like still 720p...

This is amoled technology, it looks like pixelated as u said but it have many advantage, amoled can produce much high ratio of color saturation than other screen, there are only one screen technology that can truly turn off pixel where black picture is, I mean at black colour, pixels are off, means true black you cant find any faint or visible black that is cool feeling when you see at black especially at night... This feature is my favorite.

I dont think you understood my original question.
Yeah, the DPI is set pretty crazy on the phone. First thing I did was root and change the density to 380 instead of 480. That fixed the problem for me.

Which app did you use?
If you are rooted just use a File explorer to edit the build.prop.
Be aware that the Camera app will no longer function if you change the DPI

If you want to change the build.prop, you'll need to mount /system as well.
After doing that, install Xposed and used the "App Settings" module. After the restart, go to app settings and change the DPI back on the camera and moto display if you're using the active notifications to 480 (com.motorola.camera and com.motorola.motodisplay). After that, you should be good to go with everything else. If you come across another app that looks funny or doesn't load, go back to app settings and change it.

But this cans the camera?
I tried the moto X in at&t store and also noticed the icons and text being a lot bigger. I tried using nova launcher and this displayed everything normally. I think the stock google now launcher is the problem

Yes, Google launcher has bigger icons that stock Android launcher.
Yes but everything is that way. Even individual apps are simply huge
Yeah they definitely should have tweaked the DPI for this phone. Most of it is fine (for me) but the icons are ridiculously large. Not going to give up the camera app to change it though.

It will force the camera to stop working until you go into app settings using xposed and set the DPI to the camera back to 480. Once you do that, the camera will work just fine.
......
Hmmm anyone else notice that the active display time and lock icon is all screwed up after changing dpi
Changing the DPI on active display app works
The annoying part is that Moto Display is only compatible with the stock DPI. I went from 480 to 400 today and everything is fine besides that and stock camera app crashes on opening. However, I use Google Camera so meh.
Yup, if you need your active display back. Change com.motorola.display back to 480.
There are a couple apps in the play store that will change the DPI for you.. DPI changer, texdroider DPI. Both work great. As mentioned, use the Xposed module "app settings" to change any app that is acting up, back to stock DPI. I've got the VZW variant, I may have to make an exchange to the pure edition. I myself prefer a much smaller DPI, as well as hiding my nav keys and enabling pie via LMT. Not to mention the Xposed module "Tinted Status Bar" which improves the look of the interface dramatically.

LCD Density change issues

Changed LCD Density to 540 using rom toolbox. Icon and text size looks perfect for everything except the dialer and the camera app. Dialer works fine its just off to the left a little. But the camera app is a different story. The viewfinder window is tiny and the on screen controls aren't lined up with where you actually touch the screen.
I edited build.prop to achieve this.
Anyone else changed LCD Density and had success?
Just returned my LG G4 today and rooted in before I left the store lol.
