Broken MIC - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I started having issues where friends couldn't hear me this past weekend. After a lot of searching and testing I've found my main Mic no longer works. The speakerphone does. It appears this has been a very big issue with the M7 HTC One. I'm just over a year into my contract with ATT and my phone is now out of warranty. Given the vast amount of people that have had this issue do you think there is any way HTC would repair the Mic for me? I can't really afford to just go out and buy a new phone at street price.
Can anyone offer and help with what I should do?

They will still fix it. Will just cost you money. A lot less than a new phone

Any idea where to start? Att store maybe? I kept trying their chat and it was timing out before it was ever my time.

why not asking them directly? Call them or go in store and you'll have all the details.

I live in Houston but currently in Billings, Montana for work and won't be home until Friday so trying to see what my options are before the weekend

Only 2 stores in the city that are carrying it.
Just realized that it might take a few more hours till we get some useful info because most of the U.S. is still asleep..
Every single store in Chicago is sold out as of yesterday. Literally every single store
Eh, Northern Nevada reporting. The T-Mobile stores I've been to seem to have a "never will carry Nexus 4 in stock since the market is so niche and people had complaints with the last 3-4 AOSP phones prior" policy. Makes me sad how cruel retailers can be.

Also never carried them in Henderson, NV
Minnesota Burnsville Center has two left I think. It's a small number but they're worth a call.

Since i work at a T-Mobile store i will be the great person to add the list of all the stores selling it. I jsut do not know who has what stock, but its a list of every store in the US. The stock when the phone was put out is on the far right of the file. However i have no clue who has what right now.

I think the website is out of stock or they are for employe's. I bought mine at 3am on the 14th as a employee for $170. Everything right now on our internal site says that employe's will not be able to buy it until after Jan 1st 2013. Most of the time the stores get stock back before the website. So i am sure the stores will start to get more in the coming weeks. For sure the higher volume stores will. You can call Care and see if they can sell you one over the phone but they will not sell one off contract on the phone. Care only deals with contract stuff. You have to buy one in the store if you do not want a contract.
First Post updated.
T-Mobile had them a few days ago on cottman ave and the boulevard in Philadelphia pa. Basically they said high traffic busy T-Mobile stores will get them

Can anyone buy me one from one if the stores? It'll be greatly appreciated. My lovely Sim card is bloody useless...

Visiting New York, where can I buy HTC One over there?

Hi Guys!
First of all, my apologies for opening this thread, I've searched the forum and haven't really found the information that I'm looking for, so I'm wondering if you could assist me on this subject.
I'll be visiting New York next 24/08 and I'm really looking forward to purchasing a HTC ONE. Basically I want to purchase a phone that works on my home country (Portugal), so I guess I should be looking for an unlocked model.
I did some research on the WEB and I'm having trouble to find a place (in NYC) to purchase it. Could you please indicate if it can be purchased in store? I believe I read somewhere that some carriers over there sell it unlocked but still, I would have to sign up for a 2-year contract.
I also found that I can be bought from htc.com (best price I've found so far) but the problem is that I do not have a US credit card. Do you know of site (?) that can simulate an american credit card? As mI'm staying there with friends, posting the item to their adress wouldn't be a problem.
My last question (and thanks for having read this far, ! ), upon buying the device, is its warranty worlwide or would I have to buy an extended warranty (if possible?)?
Many thanks for helping me and for your advices on this.
Best Regards,

Hello,
When you get to New York, go into any Wal Mart or big store and buy a Visa gift card for the amount of the phone. Note that the price that you see on the website DOES NOT include tax or shipping. You see see the final total at the very end of checkout right before you enter payment method. Then, you can go online and register the card to whatever address you are staying at becuase HTC will only ship the phone to the address on the card. You do this at the wesbite on the back of the card. Once you have done that, you can go to the HTC website and but the phone and have it shipped to the address that you are staying at.
Hope this helps!
Look up HTC limited warranty
It states that the warranty is only enforceable and valid in countries where the phone is sold. So... You might want to shoot HTC an email.
Hey Guys!
Thanks so much for the above.
One question though, do you think it's best to order it though HTC or can I buy it unlocked in store??
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
First of all there's no Walmart in New York, second, when you by from HTC's online store, you don't have to pay any taxes. If I'm not wrong, only if you live in California or Texas you have to pay taxes, I'm not really sure about any other state but I'm 100% sure that it doesn't apply for New York state. Just be carefull about the shipping time if you want to buy directly from HTC (you said you're visiting NY, not moving out here). Also, you can find unlocked gsm ONEs at T-Mobile or AT&T stores but in this case, yes you have to pay taxes and they come with all the branding crap but it shouldn't be an issue if you're planning to flash a cooked ROM. Good luck!

Hi Pirateye!
I appreciate your advices. I see that on the HTC web site the sell different modelo, the 'normal' One and the GE One.
Could you possible recomend One based on your experience with yours?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
You can either get those gift cards (there is an activation fee on most) or you can ask your friend to help you out and pay for it. I can't answer your question about warranty as I'm not sure myself.
However, I've purchase my HTC One Developer Edition on a Saturday night and chose 2 day shipping (~$9). The stand shipping is about $5, so if you're in a rush, just pay the extra $4. Also, no tax. Since it was on the weekend, it didn't ship out until Monday and arrived on a Wednesday. (I live in NYC).
There are no Walmarts in NYC. The closes is in Long Island but I don't know how well stock that Walmart is or if they even have the HTC One. ATT doesn't seem to have the 64gb in stores and if they do, they are charging $700 and you'll have to pay tax. And I'm not sure how much it will cost you to unlock the phone (probably $20).
It cost 580 for the 32 Tmobile version but I don't recommend that since you live oversea so that extra band probably doesn't mean much to you. The developer editions $650 for 64gb.
http://shopamerica.htc.com/cell-phones/productdetail.htm?prId=41599
So far, I've had my HTC One for about 2-3 weeks now, and have no issue (it doesn't appear I have issues with gaps or anything wrong with the screen). I prefer a bit of a smaller screen and removable battery but the phone is just beautiful. The battery life is amazing, I can go about 24 hours on the phone before I need to charge (with about 3-4 hours of heavy usage).
The normal One comes with HTC Sense while the GE comes with stock Android (as seen on Nexus phones). I bough mine in April, so is the "normal one". I also flashed a GE Rom a while ago but I came back to Sense. From my point of view Sense is cooler meaning that you have more features but others might like plain Android flavor. Just do a search on YouTube for HTC One Sense vs Google Edition.

I agree .
US models operate on different bands from EMEA (European Middle East and Africa)
GSM,GPRS,EDGE (2g) : 850/900/1800/1900 MHz (USA & EMEA)
UMTS,HSPA (3g) :
900/1900/2100 MHz (EMEA)
850/AWS/1900/2100 MHz (USA T Mob)
850/950/2100 MHz (USA A T & T)
LTE (4g)
800/1800/2600 MHz (EMEA)
700 MHz/AWS (USA AT&T, T Mob)
I would urge you not to buy in USA if you want full use in Portugal or any other European countries.
There are posts on xda from people who bought in USA and had problems of not all phone and data bands working in their home country.
In addition to difficulties with warranty, likely none

No coverage at home, Sprint doesn't care about customers

My phone works half decently around town and where I work/ go to school. But at home I either have one bar or none...I called in to sprint and they offered me an airave for 249.99 with a one year contract and 149.99 with a two year contract. After telling the first rep to piss off the second rep offered the device flat out for 100 bucks. I said if I have to pay additional costs for a service I already pay for to work properly I want to cancel my plan. The rep transfered me to cancellations and I explained my situation as well as how the coverage map says I have "better" to "best" sprint coverage at my home. They told me that the coverage map is not guaranteed indoors and to cancel service I would pay full etf. Of course sprint, you got me to sign a contract now you want to butt fck me. Any suggestions welcome. I ordered a used airave off eBay for 40 bucks lol.

Can I give you some advice?
If you really want to cancel you plan without paying a fee. Put roam only mode on. Always. Everywhere you go and use your hotspot a lot. At least 50GB or more. I have cancelled my contract twice like that and sold my phone. Jumped on some one else's plan with new device.

I have this issue as well, and I even sent screen caps of Google maps showing me at home with one and no bars, and the rep argued with her manager who still said I would have to pay for an airrave because the map said I was in a "good to better" coverage area.

It took about two billing cycles. They really dont like roaming. Go crazy with roaming and torrent some stuff so that you are constantly uploading.

A way to get an airrave for free is to go to your local corporate store and tell them your situation and then that they let your friend have an airrave for free because of the inconvenience. They have them in the store. But it must be a corporate store. I live 1.3 miles from a tower and my cell signal is just one bar. They gave me one.

Airave
I don't know why they haven't offered you an Airave for free. I'm in a family plan with my sister's family, and Sprint shipped an Airave to her house which I set up. Took some doing to get it configured properly on her system (and being shipped a faulty power supply didn't help) but once we got it working it really did the trick.
Try to have customer service send you an Airave, or try to figure out why this request is being denied.
I was a corp store manager up to 4 months ago(now District Manager for 3rd party dealer) and we never carried an airrave in stock for the purpose of giving for free. We usually had one on hand if somebody actually wanted to buy one but would always direct the customer to the "phoenix team" who had the ability to send one out for free. Your bill will go up by a couple of dollars for taxes, but no more than that. If you ask your corp store for the Phoenix Team ph#, they should be able to look it up and give it to you. Just say you have horrible in building coverage at home and that should do the trick. I did it for my mother in law...mostly so I could have better service at her house lol
I recently moved to Columbia, MD and I am in a similar situation. I have good 4G outside but it drops to one bar of 1X or roams indoors. I can't make phone calls and texts are delayed hours, sometimes days.. I have spoken with customer service 3-4 times about this and they still insist that I have to pay for the Airave. I was also told that they were back ordered anyway. Lol. Maybe I'll see what the corporate store will do, if anything.

The airrave requires an additional line on your acct, you may not be qualified credit wise through sprint to get a free airrave. You really need to go to a local store and speak to those reps to have them argue on your behalf to get a better offer on one

After looking at that link above I just realized one of the leaked pictures was actually from Malaysia.
Now I wonder if it'll be released in my country (Indonesia) as well. I may be hoping but I'm not hoping much at all. Indonesia is like one of the least "Google-cared" country. We get new devices so late it's not even new anymore.
Then again it might be our retail shops / carriers that just went full retard and think "Meh, who the hell buys Nexus in this country anyway? Why should we rush to get this phone in?"
Damn it
I might get one from Singapore if it was released there, though. Should there be any problems warranty is much easier to process (I fly back and forth every few months).
I asked singtel on their fb page. Their response:
Dear Jeremy, thank you for your interest. Do keep a look-out! Please be assured that we will keep you informed once we have an update. Thanks
"do keep a look out" sounds rather promising, but I'm only cautiously optimistic

It sounds like a rather generic response to me...
But I'm not gonna buy w contract though. Seems like I'm the only one amongst my friends w 12gb data cap.. And I'm not gonna give that away. Starhub 3g is fast enough
If its released in Malaysia then all the more better. Just a drive/ride across 2nd link or causeway

How much is the tax & shipping cost within JP? You're using tenso right?
acutally after GST and delivery, it would be around 600+ to get from JP right? for 32gb version

I am also in SG. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a 12GB contract on LTE. Singapore telcoms just followed suit with the USA and went for the massive cash grab known as metered billing.
I think that it's wrong to go from 12GB to 2GB of data while keeping the price the same. The price per month should have been lowered according to the data offered.
You have to admit though we are still paying a lot less than people in the USA. (http://www.androidcentral.com/us-mobile-data-prices-among-most-expensive-world)
My plan:
120 (outgoing mins)
600 SMS
2GB data
$39SGD (31.40 USD) per month
I have a friend that lives in the UK. I will be getting him to order me a white 32GB so that I can take advantage of LTE.

[Q] Verizon LG-G2 locked ?

I am sorry to start a new thread, but this is sort of an emergency.
My Lady Susan upgraded to an LG-G2 on Verizon a couple of months ago, and we were assured it was a World Phone. We called Verizon Tech Support, got transferred to the International Travel folks, requested it be unlocked if necessary for use in England and Scotland. They assured us over and over that this phone is not locked in any way and all she would have to do is obtain a sim from some provider like Three in London and put it in and set up the APN as necessary for the LG-G2 to just work over there.
They warned us to pull the Verizon sim out before turning it on in the UK or she might incur international roaming charges - tried to sell her some kind of plan to mitigate that possibility in the process, but admitted that it was unnecessary if she was careful to not have her Verizon sim installed while the phone was powered up in the UK.
She got over there this morning, found a Three store in London, and they told her her Verizon LG-G2 was LOCKED to Verizon-only and could not work with any other provider at all.
She is currently without data or even a UK cell number. Was Verizon wrong about the LG-G2 being possible to use in the UK, or was the guy at the Three store wrong ?
We are not concerned about LTE speeds, most of the area she is traveling through is 3G only at this point anyway. She needs data though, for Hangouts if nothing else.
If the LG-G2 is useless over there, maybe she can buy a pre-paid phone for the two weeks she is traveling. Any suggestions ?
I have told her to find another Three store, or an O2, or anybody that might have a clue, but I fear it was Verizon that was clueless when they told us it would "just work". I use only Nexus devices myself, and my Nexus5 would not have this problem !
To be clear, this is a stock Verizon LG-G2 with the recent LG stock KitKat firmware received and applied via OTA. Not even rooted.
Both Vodaphone and Three shops in London have told Susan today that her Verizon LG-G2 is carrier-locked by Verizon and cannot be used in the UK on either Three or Vodaphone. So, for the next two weeks she is on WiFi only. They both tried to sell her a phone and plan for about $100, so she would have something to use while traveling.

Its not locked, they are incorrect... I don't know the UK market but couldn't she just get a prepaid SIM and set the APNs herself (Verizon global mode phones are notorious for not getting APNs from the SIM)?

She could, if she could...
I told her she would need to set her APN up and change her network mode to GSM instead of CDMA/LTE, but she got That Look in her eyes, so I told her the nice people at the shoppe would be able to help her. And to get a prepaid for mostly data and call me over Hangouts.

Very odd. When I was in the UK a year ago, I used my 'carrier locked' Verizon S3 just by buying a sim from Tesco (major grocery retailer) and upping my balance when needed. Was fairly pain free. And that was when phones were more locked down, and all new phones claim to be global in that sense.

I know, right !
I think she just got a couple of nincompoops at the shops she went to yesterday. Maybe she will have better luck today in Edinburgh.
There can't be anything that wrong with the LG-G2 that it won't work on a GSM sim in Europe. When we were in Italy last year we used both Wind and TIM Sims in Verizon World phones set to GSM mode, worked fine even for playing Ingress.

Just a thank you update...in Edinburgh this morning she was able to find a competent shop clerk and now is busy hacking Ingress portals with cheap and functional sim data ! She kept trying based on your advice until she found someone not trying to sell her a prepaid phone.

All Verizon LTE phones are SIM unlocked, it's part of their deal with the FCC.
