Camera in 4.4.2 - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello averyone,
Yesterday I bought a xperia z and I want to know ..if you can put the dedicated camera button, button lock / unlock (the one with the camera drawn on it) if so, how to change?
I have android 4.4.2 (eXistenZ_Ultimate_1.5.5)

I have no idea what you exactly mean. You want to customize certain buttons?

You can assign the volume key as the shutter.
Open the camera, press on the menu key (3 dots) then look in the settings tab (far right).
Edit - This is assuming that your rom is using the stock camera, of course.

That i know, but the "power" button can assign?

Not without a mod of some kind. You did state without pressing on the screen in your second post, so that achieves it. ?

Anybody up to the task?
Don't understand what you are talking about
You can do it with Tasker with Volume buttons. You'll lose zooming capability though.
Camera zoom app can do it without and problem.
Now where is my bounty

Ho-ho-hold up one second there.
Please elaborate!!
You modded this?
Does the camera need to be running in the backround in order for this to work correctly?
Due to the current situation where the camera takes several seconds to start, I have a sneaking suspicion...
I'm not the type to photograph everyone and everything.
Still, the camera is at the top of my list when it comes to apps you need quick access to.
Since this would only be useful for that superquick shot, I would keep my camera shortcut just a gesture away.
Anxiously awaiting reply:fingers-crossed:
How does it work please? I mean does the screen have to be off from camera app and then vol down takes the picture. No other way? I was hoping to have the power button focus and / or take the picture / start/stop video rec while and only while the camera app is active.

So.. if it works without being a backround process, this might also be stable in stamina mode?
Or am I just talking out of my a**?
Take your time, this is potential gold

Hello,
I have a good and a bad news:
The good
Just finish a bêta version of the MOD
no fast capture on standby mode for the moment...but I'm working on it
The bad
Sony set the capture action only if (focus + camera) button are press together
So you need to press volume UP for focus...and volume DOWN to take the picture.
I'm working on it in order to find how to remove this condition
Installation:
Just replace SemcCameraUI.apk in /system/app with rw-r--r-- permission and reboot

Enjoy

like all nexus devices and on screen keyboard devices, in 4.0 there was a button on the apps which acts as the menu button (its called action menu or something), you only need to look for 3 vertical dots or play with the apps.
the facebook app have its settings on the left tab at the end of all the crap, there you can find the settings

Yup but in messages u cant delete conversations caise no action button.
Seriously whats the use of 2 button with basically of the same function. The home and task bar button
Should be integrated in 1 button only home button one press then long press brings the task manager.
So is it the same with all launchers?

in the messenger app and in the facebook app, you need to go to the messenger section (facebook app) long pres the conversation and then an optional menu will appear.
BLAME facebook for a poorly done app man, they should implement better ways to navigate through the damn app

It's the same with all Android devices that use stock or close to stock above 4.1. The real blame is with poor and lazy app development of which Facebook is a good example.

That button is essential for things like search in webbrowser.
sony made in China no options button like Htc in Taiwan has.

Honest question. What makes a physical button "essential" for this, and an onscreen button (depending on the browser, that will be either on the navigation bar, on the rightmost part or on the title bar, besides the tab button) not fit? Specially when pressing either of them will have the exact same effect?
Yes, I was used to the TouchWiz way on my previous phones, and I thought that having the menu button fixed on the same position all the time was the only way to do so. Now I see that (a dedicated physical menu button) the same way as I see the fixed menu bar on Mac OS: it has some nice points, but overall it's a waste of good space. Note that the Android application design guidelines asks for an onscreen overflow button (the three dots button). Some manufacturers change the behaviour to remove the onscreen button and assign the same function to a physical key. Some developers screw up the design in epic fashion (Facebook). But there's no way around it: the onscreen menu button is how Android is meant to be, at least since the last major overhaul on ICS. Anything other than that is either a manufacturer's attempt at "differentiation", breaking the expected design of apps, or an app's utter failure to adhere to a very simple set of rules.

No way. Click on right softkey botton, will appear all the screens and Square Option > Active Clipe, back to the needed window, click screen capture. Done. Click Thanks.

You don't have necessarily flash a new rom, just root and use any app which you like to take screens.

Landscape view is not supported on a stock rom as far as I know, I would wait for some rom development I'm sure it will get baked in. I noticed on this phone that the ... will appear on the far right if there is no place in the app for a soft key menu. So if the ... is there use that, if it isn't there should be a place in the app where you can press to do the same thing as pressing the menu. I actually wouldn't mind a full time menu key in the far right, I think it's very handy. I original capacitive 4 buttons on the evo were still my favorite lay out.

If you use GravityBox & XPosed, you can have one there at all times. See screenshots. They were taken from my Nexus 7 Tablet, but you should expect no difference, with the exception of the small window in the first screenshot (courtesy of the XHaloFloatingWindow module).
I might have to give this a try. The space is there for the menu key so I wouldn't mind it always being there.

That's definitely something that I am likely to use on every device with on screen buttons. Using GravityBox, I remapped the menu to switch to the last app when double tapped, and show the power menu when long pressed. It's wonderful.

Screenshot like in Asus?

When I use the KK Rom, I can only get the screenshot by using the Power Menu (Long press the power button while the power menu is configured to have a screenshot option). Anyone knows a way or any app I can install to capture a screenshot by long press the "Recent App" Soft key and get a screenshot saved like in the Asus stock ROM?

Thanks for the tip, I installed and tested it, the captured size of the screenshot is not exactly as it is by using the hardware key or the long press Recent Apps softkey.
Any other tips?

Yes, the power and volume key combination works, but for 2 reasons I don't like it.
1) too many presses on keys are no good for the hardware, and
2) the TF701 has both power and volume keys on the upper left hand and it is difficult for me to press both keys at once.
I think the best is still the long press Recent Apps soft button implemented by Asus.

Please elaborate on this more, are you referring to add the screenshot choice to the power on/off hardware button?
Just use the power options screen shot functionality in kk.... It's in settings, developer settings somewhere. You push the power button and one of the options is a soft button to take a screen shot.
Or stop cheating
