I'm on a Nexus 5 here and have had the same problem since moving to the 5.0+ Google Play Services. It seems to have simmered down now, but man the first few days were crazy. Not sure what it was doing, but I haven't seen it on BBS in the last two weeks.
Honestly it's like any GPS update... Battery takes a dive for a few days then levels out and goes back to normal. Some are worse than others. It happens to me every time it updates. I just go into app settings, clear all data, and reboot. Works every time. :good:
It's not as bad as initially but it's still creeping. Anyone know what it does?

Educated guess, but probably something to do with the latest Chromecast update, which added screen mirroring and allowing multiple devices to connect.

Figured I would start a thread for our newly updated Asus tablets. I updated mine this morning before work. I haven't had much time to play with it. How is everyone liking it so far? Seem snappier? Anyone notice any new features? I'm hoping the random reboots will be fixed. This tablet is already great! Hopefully it just got better.

It's possible to assign allowed apps to additional users. There is a option to search wifi, when it's off.
During this upgrade, the PSU of dock and tablet has been updated.
Camera was updated. You can now use the volume rocker to snap pics too.

Since the new Update, it works a lot smoother, the dock is now always docked and didnt lose the connection to the tab.
But i had to do a full wipe, cause the launcher had some bugs, he crashed everytime i tried to get a widget to the homescreen.
AND i think the batt lives longer as before without energy saving mode.
My battery life is outstanding on 4.3
They also changed the stock file manager

I have more free RAM now. Earlier I had 1200MB used, now I have 950MB.

Does the OTA fix the bad connector on the tablet itself? As in if you wiggle the connector on the tablet while connected to the computer, does it still disconnect?
Seems a bit snappier to me but I was hoping it would make some games run smoother like my hp slate book but it's the same unfortunately. Stuttering still present in games and rotation animation. Might not bother you though. Overall it's a welcome update.
As far as reboot I haven't seen it yet since I updated but maybe has not been long enough to to know.

still gets hot quickly?
-battery percentage now on the top bar if you choose it (in settings->battery)
-dock connected now only has one symbol on the top bar (instead of 2)
-permanent notification about the sd card on the top bar gone
the positive things i found so far about 4.3
Is anyone else seeing Google Play Services going crazy with the 4.3 update? According to Better Battery Stats, my tablet is not able to get into deep sleep at all since the update and the battery information is pointing to Google Play Services as the biggest culprit. I don't have root on this device yet, so I don't have as much information as I'd like. I'm wondering if a factory reset would improve the situation? I'm getting a new tablet on exchange from Amazon tomorrow, so I will likely upgrade and then factory reset with that device to see if it makes a difference.

I would factory reset after upgrading anyway, same for flashing a Rom

Google Play Services draining the battery (more than usual) is probably not related to the 4.3 upgrade. Have a look at this article:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...lay-services-seems-to-be-a-battery-hog-today/
Has been widely reported on various devices (I had it on my Nexus 7 yesterday or the day before).
hey folks, is the random battery saving screen brightness flicker gone? like the random dimming

Thanks. I saw that story go by this morning. Hopefully it is resolved now.
Semi-related... Is it possible to disable a downloaded app versus uninstalling it? I see that I can disable (some) system applications that can't be uninstalled, but if there is an app that I want to disable for the short term I'm only seeing the uninstall option. If I had root, I would use Titanium Backup, but I haven't gone there yet because I'm waiting for my exchange from Amazon to arrive.
My android OS is about 32% today and about the same with my three other note 3 friends, rooted and non rooted. Anyone know what is causing it or if you have the same issue?
I'm just stock rooted.

I'm seeing the drain here too but it's not hurting me too badly. Android OS is topping everything at 32% and has been since yesterday.

I tried the updated Google Play Services APK which is supposed to fix battery drain but it's still the top on my list. Can't say it's hurting me much though. 74% battery left after 12 hours (1 hour screen on time).

There's no fix yet. For me it's network /signal related. Outside at work the process is awake for about 4 hour /12 while at home on wifi most of the time is under 1 hour. Still on top of the list though.

I asked the next person that got it to post it here but doubt they understand what is required to do that. Hopefully, one if you all will get it.

In the interview with CNET the android guys said it was mostly improved voice and touch response.
Got the update. Only two things I noticed so far is improved touch response (Scrolling through watch faces used to be a little bit of a pain). And it looks to have fixed this weird issue I had with the Dark Analog watch face where it would start to have this weird coloring when trying to dim after getting a notification. Goes perfectly black and white every time now it seems.

I received the KGW42N update and everything seemed to be going well then it rebooted and became stuck on the Downloading..... Do not turn off the device.
I waited 30 minutes then I held the button for a long time to reboot it. It did the updating 1 of 27 apps message like any Android OS then went to my Matrix Watch Face.
Everything was laggy for quite some time, swiping between screens and google now were horrible.
Also it was dropping Bluetooth connections quite frequently.
Rebooted my phone and Live 3 or 4 times and hopefully everything is good now.
I hope everyone else's update goes smooth.
I did notice my minuum keyboard in wear messenger no longer has the little send key.
I received the update this evening. Voice to text to reply to text messages seems to work better. Will need to use it more to make sure.

If you have TWRP flashed on this, the update does write over it with the stock recovery, you will have to reflash TWRP.

There is a new update that started to roll today with Baseband: G920TUVU3DOI1
Per website, indicates various bug fixes and improvements.
Have you download it? Feedback?
Anybody know if there is still root for this new updated version? How large is the update file?

Per the website 62.78 MB
Right, it is a very small update. I am installing right now. I am not rooted or anything. So i will try and give some feedback when i finish installing. But i am sure that it is going to take a few days to notice any actual changes.
There's already another thread that was created yesterday about this update. Maybe we should all stick to that one so we have a unified place for information gathering. Allegedly this update was to activate Samsung Pay, but mine still did not work. I am completely stock and unrooted. I don't care, I just want better battery (too early to tell).
A 62mb update to enable Samsung pay? Yeah that doesn't make much sense at all.

The update made the RAM usage little smaller, better battery and overall experience.
The only issue found when using data, sometimes it automatically turns off. I have to go to data and turn it back again... weird
With this new update this speech to text keeps freezing up.

I have Data off, International Data On, Wi-Fi calling off, VoLTE off.
When the phone goes to sleep and the Wi-FI is disconnected (I have "Keep Wi-Fi during sleep off), when it goes off it automatically turns on the Data....
If I have the data on, it goes off automatically. I have to run it on again to use it....
I haven't found the issue what is causing this. Phone not rooted

No issues here...everything works fine.
around day 2 after the latest update i noticed my battery life seemed to be lasting longer. I noticed my "time left" quote was exceptionally high, normally quoting 25ish hours max on a full charge, this time quoting 38.
last friday was the first day of any major usage. used it more than i typically do even on fridays (sat and watched youtube videos quite a lot), with 2 20 minute charges or so, from 8:00am to 6pm it was getting heavy usage, with about 3 hours of youtube going, and at the end of hte day i was above 60%.
That had me floored as normally after a normal friday, I'd be pushing my luck for 40% even with using my portable charger, and thats without youtube.
tomorrow I'll get to give it another hard test and see if it holds up again. if it does i think i will suddenly love my phone now
Anyone else noticed extremely high accelerator sensor usage for whatsapps? App is optimized battery usage wise and seems to not be active all the time which is good ,however the sensor time is very high which I believe prevents my device going into deep sleep as much as it should.
I denied WhatsApp Google play body sensor permissions on initial installation meaning I allowed I enabled it for the installation but then disabled it body sensors in Google play services after install was completed. So unsure why sensor time is still present and high.View attachment 4695340View attachment 4695341View attachment 4695342

i dont think this is an "issue"
it jsut feels more and more such things are left in for ages to get to use on a later date or at least offer the possibility.
when we look at the daily new trackign methods by the big ones i really going to become a aluhat collector
either that or whatsapp has an incredible lax QC Department dont ****ing care of bad code in the app.
both are equaly possible when i look at todays software qualitys of any of the big ones...

I still don't want it to use the accelerometer though, and there's no way to disable it through permission, service or else.

It doesn't seem to directly drain battery but appears to prevent the device from going into deep sleep mode thus more drain when not being used over a period of sleeping in bed for example.
I much prefer Telegram, but some of my contacts are still on WhatsApp. Else I would just delete this app.

I wonder if it's the trick they found to avoid their app to be "killed" by the system's battery optimisation settings, to be certain to always receive notifications. ?
