Hey guys,
I have to admit that I'm not that professional concerning all of this root / modding / ROM stuff...
Eventually I plan on flashing some custom firmware later and I am wondering if my root acces and cwm will be removed or something, if I'll upgrade to the latest .205 version?
Thanks in advance!

If you use PC companion you will lose root. If you use OTA and use supersu's OTA survival you might be able to keep root and CWM

Hi all,
Just updated to Sony's latest offering .266 and, obviously, lost ROOT access.
Has anyone any info on how to re-root? I am on a locked bootloader and cannot unlock it.
Please advise? I have lost all of my custom settings and cannot change until I have root access.

There's no root method for locked bootloader for 4.3 as for now. Or you can try the root method by sir @jancsessz tho you'll need to downgrade it back to 4.1.2. Didn't work for me tho but worth a try :silly:

Soo first you'd want to downgrade to 4.1.2 which can be easily done using flashtool
And then use Doomlord's method. This one is for .245 and .254
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2405933
When you've done rooting you'll need CWM. Not sure about the original thread but here's the download link
http://d-h.st/Las
Extract and run the install.bat after rooting and you'll get both root access and CWM
Then follow the tutorial from earlier to update to 4.3 and voila! :victory:
It is a new update. Why are we so unpatience? Let the developers work on this!

hello I am an old Z user , but it got stolen 6month ago...
I just got a new one, I'm not a noob but I'm lost on what is the latest rom to install and the proper way to root it as I'm sure old methods aren't working anymore...
from what I roughly understood, you need to unlock the bootloader now?
if yes I would need help on that!
(I heard about some "framework" stuff to install as well)
thanks for helping !

latest ROM is 4.3 - build number 10.4.1.B.0.101
You only need an unlocked bootloader if you want custom ROMS such as CM, PAC etc with custom kernels. Cant flash custom kernels if on locked bootloader
Unlock bootloader - http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/tutorial-xperia-z-zl-bootloader-t2153261
To root you will need to be on a 4.2 ROM, once rooted you can install a recovery then you can install a rooted 4.3 ROM or custom ROM
Follow this method to root on stock rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327472
(additional guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/guide-how-to-root-101-firmware-lb-t2656698)
Follow this method to gain recovery - http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/general/ub-lb-xzdualrecovery-xperia-z-qa-thread-t2477769
Should be ready to flash stuff
thanks a lot!!!
was lost into all the new infos...
so to install 4.3 - 10.4.1.B.0.101 no need to unlock, right?
(I only need the sony rom)

Correct, you do not need to unlock the bootloader if you are going to install the 4.3 - 10.4.1.B.0.101 ROM.
You can either do this on flashtool by flashing a 4.3 FTF or you can root and install recovery and flash a rom zip file
Hi guys,
I have just rooted my new Sony Xperia Z (Android 4.2.2) and I would like to upgrade to Android 4.3.
I was wondering if there was anyway to get the update without loosing my root access?
I am pretty unexperienced at all this stuff. I've heard that "flashing" the 4.3 firmware keeps the root access?
Thanks,
-Lambo
Just flash a prerooted 4.3 through cwm and your root is preserved, just like that

If your bootloader is locked just update it over the air. If your bootloader is unlocked flash a prerooted Rom via Cwm or twrp.
Just flashing a ftf file via flashtool wI'll make you lose root

You are mostly right
You need a to be rooted, I suggest you use the 23.0.A.2.93 firmware to do this (4.4.4 - kitkat)
Have a custom recovery (click links to go to the posts)
Then flash a pre-rooted lollipop firmware
Sadly in lollipop they fixed the SuperSU Survival mode so the only way to get root is to flash a pre-rooted firmware

You will loose root if you update through OTA or through computer
You will keep root if you flash a pre-rooted firmware after gaining root on KK

Hello all,
Im totally confused as to how to go about rooting my device c6902. Ive owned a couple of android devices and Ive rooted them all, however....with this device and there seem to be different ways people have rooted from reading the threads and im totally confused, So far I have unlocked the bootloader, and upgraded the device OTA to lollipop .242 (before the bootloader was unlocked), I dont intend installing any custom firmware, just want root so I can use TB and maybe delete a few bloatwares with root explorer and use xposed.
Im confused as to whether:
1. I have to downgrade firmware to kitkat, just to get root, then upgrade back to official firmware?
2. Ive been under the impression that a custom recovery and supersu, is enough to get root. It doesnt work that way on this device?
3. I saw some oneclick root programs that worked on the z1 compact would any work here
Just trying to know more about the phone and understand, so any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Using the guide on the link I just posted, you are not required to unlock the bootloader, unlocking the bootloader without backing up the TA partition can cause problems with your phone.
You need to downgrade to KitKat 4.4.4 with kernel 108, then root it with easyroot install supersu and rootchecker to make sure your phone is rooted, the use NUTs recovery to create a recovery partition, after that search XDA forums for a pre-rooted lollipop flashable zip and install that, and voila you should be on lollipop with root and recovery.
I am not sure about one-click root programs.

Thanks for your help.
I already unlocked the bootloader though. Do I need to downgrade the whole kitkat rom or flash just the kernel? thanks
Figured out. Thanks
