[Q] Video problem with CyanogenMod 11.0 for SGS4A (int'l) - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Flashing went easily after I read howtos and such, got rooted and CWM installed easily, had to downgrade my sdcard because I had 64Gb installed for flashing purposes.
ROM seems great overall, very smooth and fast, plus I think it fixed a keyboard issue I was having, think however unlocked it (powersellers on ebay) broke the ROM when they unlocked it.
Anyway, the one minor problem I'm having is that most videos are greyscale, and have horizontal blocking/alignment issues. Unwatchable really. I can watch some old Babylon 5 videos in .avi format that I have on the sdcard, but any web video, youtube, netflix all has the grey/horizontal issue. The official thread for this ROM mentions this exact issue (I think), but I'm wondering if anyone knows how I can fix it, is it just a lib that is messed up?
Thanks
Chaoslord

Try another CM11 Version. Some older versions habe problems with videos / resolutions. See this appropiate threads for more info.
Or try VLC as Video Player, works for me perfect and plays nearly everything without a problem.

[Q] Browser crashes watching certain flash video

Hello,
I have had my nexus for about 5 months now and really love the phone.
One big feature that I use is flash video online and I watch streamed TV channels. A few months ago, when 2.2 was originally released I was able to watch any stream I cam across.
However, within the last month, certain video stream will result in my phones browser crashing immediately. The browser does not force close, and there is no error message, just immediately booted back to home screen.
The funny thing is, 2 of my friends who have the HTC desire, are unable to view the same streams. The browser crash is 100% repeatable without fail.
I am currently running STOCK 2.2, with stock recovery, stock (non-korean) radio, stock everything. I reverted entirely to stock from CM6 to see if it would fix my problem but it has not. I have tried CM6, Enomther, Kang and stock roms, Tried the froyo 4.06 radio and the Korean 5.08 radio, all of which have the exact same behavior.
A specific stream that does not load for me (there are others) is The Poker Channel, over at atdhe.net
I have tried both OnDemand and always on for flash settings but nothing seems to help.
If anyone has any ideas or also experiences these problems I would love to hear it. If you need more information or a video of the problem I can provide whatever is needed. I desperately would like to fix this problem.
I have been having the exact same issue with Justin.tv streams it was working when I was on the beta flash and right after the official flash was released. Very recently I want to say two weeks it crashes my browser. The only thing I can think of is maybe its being blocked from there end? I also tried wiping and installing the beta again and same crash
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Well that is good news and bad news Im sorry to hear you have the same issue but its nice to know I am not alone.
I would like to get it fixed but I have no idea how to go about it. I have tried almost everything I can think of, including changing User Agent and all that stuff.
If anybody reads this, Is anybody able to watch the Poker Channel from atdhe.net on your phone? Other channels dont work as well, I dont even like poker, but I know that channel is a for sure browser crash for me.
So there is a new flash update that I just downloaded on my phone. Flash Player 10.1.95.1. This seems to have fixed my problem 100%, as every flash channel now works flawlessly.
If only I didnt revert everything back to stock... hahah At least I am happy to have my issue resolved.
I made sure mine is up to date and it still doesn't work it might be my build
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Actually I came back to post that upon going through more channels I find that some still don't work. A majority of the ones that didn't work now do work but I still experience some channels on atdhe that crash my browser immediately. This is while using stock 2.2 still.
That changes my thoughts a little knowing your on a stock build it might be a problem with the stream itself I notice it does it only on Justin.TV streams the ones work great still
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I had the same issue today. I was trying to watch a steram from atdhe which I'm pretty sure is linked to Justin TV. Just keeps crashing my browser .
Another issue I've had is watching Colbert report on CTV's and comedy centrals website. The audio plays in slow motion but the video plays normal. Everything else on those sties work for me.
I'm using CM6 nightly build.

[Q] Streaming Flash Video With 2.2

Could someone test this for me?
Ive got an i9000m, 10.12 hw date (3rd back from bell repair).
I remember with my previous phone being able to play (smoothly) flash video from sites such as tsn.ca
I was trying to watch the world jr game last night (first time trying flash video with the new phone) and it was extremely jerky. I was on a wifi connection which was more than good enough to stream video. This was with the stock JL2 firmware.
Knowing that flash worked great with the previous phone running a beta 2.2 version, I installed darkys v8 this morning, thinking JL2 may of been the cause of the issue, and im finding the same results.
Could it be my new phone? Could someone else load up tsn.ca and see if the video streams smoothly.
Thanks
some videos are not optimized for mobile and will be very jerky and other flash vids that have same or even better quality will run fine. don't ask me why
I get that, but its just odd, as it worked fine before.
as well, sites like atdhe.net streamed flawlessly before, now they are extremely jerky (basically unwatchable)
Updated Flash Player v????
jje
Yes I have,
flash is updated to latest from market.
I have the exact same problem with www.tsn.ca full site along with several other sites like www.ign.com. Did anyone find a solution? Thanks.

[Q] YouTube HQ videos won't play properly

Ever since I upgraded to MicroMod777's Gingerbread ROM, my YouTube HQ videos will not play properly. The audio will play without any problem, but the video will just get stuck on one frame; it is not a matter of streaming it or anything like that.
I used to have the MIUI Froyo-based ROM and stock Froyo before that, and there were no such issues. A Google search has also not revealed any answers. Initially I thought it was just an early version (v.10) glitch... but yesterday I upgraded to v.19 and still have the same problem! I don't know if this is a Gingerbread issue, ROM issue, Nexus One issue or YouTube issue. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
You need to flash the zip stated in op. You went and Google search, but didn't bother reading the entire first post. Amazing.

[Q] Videos won't play (M7)

I have a Sprint HTC One M7 which is S-Off and WAS rooted/on a custom rom. Why emphasize WAS? Because recently I've developed a strange issue. Any/ALL stock Sense based rom refuses to play stream videos, YouTube videos or any other videos in general. I have searched the issue up online and not one matching case on XDA. Other sources solutions are ridiculous. The funny thing is that videos play 100% fine on any AOSP based rom. This device is not currently connected to Sprint at all, only WiFi, same issue on any WiFi network I try. Oh, back to the emphasis on WAS, I have tried to factory reset, wipe internal storage, and finally, flashed an RUU and took OTA updates up to official Sense 6 and still no luck.
I have read some complications due to Google Movies app but I don't use or touch that app at all, regardless, how is it possible that that app is to interfere specifically with STREAM videos out of all videos sources? And how come it gives no issues on non-Sense based roms?
Any reasonable suggestions/solutions will gladly be THANKED.
SOLVED: Weird, I updated all Google Play apps and it seems to be working. Or it mayjust have been the Youtube online mobile site causing problems instead. I did indeed experience problems with video streaming on websites other than YouTube on other Sense roms, but in the case of returning to stock, it seems to have been a simpler issue
I was wrong, started happening again randomly with all videos again...this is hopeless.

This is really weird.. this is the second time I've heard of this problem. Hasn't happened to me yet though.

Yeah its annoyingly random. I had to jump back to a custom aosp-based rom in the meanwhile. It was working again then it just stopped. I wanted to stick to a Sense based rom as the battery life is very promising. For now i have chosen Beanstalk for its stability/battery life as my temporary choice. I just wish I knew what causes it. Doesnt sound like any Androud virus I've ever heard of, and I've never actually heard of an android virus except something about rootkits.

My theory is that there's something wrong with the libs on a Sense ROM, that makes it incompatible with the newer versions of YouTube. Might be wrong though, since I'm not a developer. Also, since it happens randomly >.>.

Its not just YouTube its actually...everything. Netflix, MTV app, YouTube, both stock web browser and Chrome when streaming videos, the list goes on. I didnt get to test what happens with videos played from the internal storage though...

[Q] Tmobile Note 4 Lollipop - Screen Mirroring choppy video playback

I've got a Tmobile Note 4 running Lollipop (updated OTA yesterday). I use a Samsung Wireless Dongle and Screen Mirroring to watch some shows. I noticed yesterday that video playback has become extremely choppy since the Lollipop update. Anyone else experiencing this issue? I double checked my network settings and everything is working smoothly. Video playback on the Note 4 itself is just fine. Just choppy on my TV screen when Screen Mirroring through the Wireless Dongle. Any ideas about how to address this would be much appreciated. I am rooted, running stock TouchWiz Lollipop ROM, if that matters.
Try without the dongle? It does work wireless if you have a smart tv
I have the dongle because I don't have a Wi-Fi Direct/Screen Mirroring capable television. I did dig around in Application Manager and found Wi-Fi Direct Share, and I've cleared the cache and data for it. I'll try it out this evening to see if that will get it working smoothly again.
Should note that on KitKat, the Dongle worked just fine. It is a Samsung brand wireless dongle.
There is no data nor cache to clear on Screen Mirroring app itself nor on the Wi-Fi Direct app. So crossing my fingers this Wi-Fi Direct Share has something to do with it.
I have the same samsung wireless dongle but since I updated to 5.0 i havent had the chance to stream, ill give input in a few when i get home. Also i had a lot of freezing while watching movies on 4.4 not sure if you ever experienced that, it was very annoying. Also I'm stock.
Still not resolved
Wireless dongle playback is still choppy as described in OP. Interested to here from others. A better description might by jerky... Audio is just fine. Might dig around in the build.prop file later. Otherwise, any feedback from others experiencing this issue or others who might have an idea for troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.
Try booting up in recovery and wiping cashe partition that seems to fix a lot of strange problems for me.
No such luck, mate. Thanks for the suggestion, though. It's bareable as is right now, but it does bug the **** out of me. Haha. I'm just wondering if anyone else out there is experiencing this. I'm thinking of borrowing a Chromecast off someone to see if it has the same issue. I mean, the video in every app is smooth as butter on my phone screen, but the TV is jerky ever so slightly via the Samsung Dongle. I know it's not just me because my wife who typically cares less about tech noticed it.
Leave it to good ol Sammy. Sort of like that BS way they built screen mirroring to break on rooted devices using third party (read:non Samsung dongle) back on the Note 3. Anyone have an idea of something I could try to edit in the build.prop file? Any other ideas? I found an app on the Play Store that's meant to fix Screen Mirroring issues after an update, but when loaded it doesn't give me the option to run it, apparently it thinks I am already patched. Oh. And Samsung was the manufacturer of that app, go figure. So apparently this has happened in in the past?
If all else fails, I may just try a fresh install. I'm trying to wait for the latest version of TWRP because I heard some folks have had no luck flashing ROMs through TWRP after upgrading to Lollipop OTA and then rooting (which is what I did; I never rooted on KitKat because I wanted to keep my 1 yr Sammy Warranty intact, just in case). I know tripping Knox apparently doesn't affect the Tmobile insurance, but I've read varying stories on whether it affects your Sammy factory warranty.
Well. I'm off off to play some AC Unity on the PS4. I'll check back later. Happy trails
I am experiencing the same issue ever since I updated to lollipop. Video mirroring to my Samsung smart TV very choppy.
Nobody has any possible solutions for this? Please give it a shot if you have any ideas whatsoever. Now we have two confirmed reports.
Quick update. Hard reset and even unroooting the device didn't resolve the issue. Definitely something baked into to the latest TMO stock ROM
I've even had the screen freeze on the chromecast when mirroring but audio still plays
@knarfies I used to get a similar issue with Netflix but Lollipop resolved it. So can you connect with Chrome cast, but it freezes occasionally? How often is it happening? The Samsung Dongle works without freezing audio or video but is jerky enough for me and the wife to notice. Wasn't like that on KitKat.
I'm running stock and im using the samsung dongle and the video actually plays smoother on 5.0, when I was on 4.4 it use to freeze all the time I'm not sure why is not playing gird for you guys, plus whatever I was on 4.4 the video playback in general would freez during playback even when I was not screen mirring.
I am currently rooted with a custom kernel and stock ROM, but even before the mods, it was no longer working correctly. Samsung has an app on the Play Store to patch problems with Screen Mirroring after a software upgrade, but when I downloaded it, it said I was already patched. Even after a hard reset and completely non rooted stock everything it hasn't worked perfectly like it did on KitKat since Lollipop.
