Hi there...
I own a ATT MotoX and a Brazilian Vivo MotoX.
Supposedly they are the same model XT1058, but ATT and US Motorola and i think everywhere else (even so at iFixit teardown) is written that the American Moto X supports bands 2,4,5, and 17. Where the Brazilian MotoX works also with Band 7 (2600mhz... that is used in EU and South America).
I've been trying for sometime to test the ATT one with brazilian LTE, but was unsuccesful, until today when I flashed the 4.4 leaked from ATT on BOTH devices. And BOTH have LTE band 7 now.
Weird.
But Cool!
=)
I'm writing here only because i couldn't find ANY information about REAL usage of band 7 on ATT MotoX.
So anyone flying to europe or brazil, with the motoX (except T-mobile) will get coverage.
Very interesting information. Rogers Canada sells an XT1058 and they list that the phone supports band 7 LTE (2600 mhz). Rogers does use band 7 so it would make sense but the FCC(US) and IC(Canada) regulatory bodies do not list any 2600 mhz support for the XT1058. And as you mentioned the iFixit tear down shows no hardware for 2600 Mhz.
How are you able to verify 100% for certain they are using 2600 Mhz? I am assuming your provider has LTE only on 2600 Mhz?
Exactly.
And here is proof.
Vivo Brazil only works with Band 7 - 2600mhz
The weird thing is as I said before... It only started working after the 4.4 leak.
Maybe it was the modem image.
Maybe it was a problem with my LTE signal before. But to be sure, someone should try flashing the brazilian jellybean modem on a att/rogers phone.

Hi this is very interesting and important information for me especially who was looking to buy Moto X with custom back and front and that can work with the LTE Band 7 Network Provider s (e.g. Vodafone UK). Because only Roger or Brazil ones support the Band 7 but they are not customisable through Moto maker so it was a kind of disheartening me, but your experiment has certainly raised a joy and excitement and looks like dreams comes true to me. Could you please confirm if this is still the case then I can go ahead and buy the Motox from AT&T?
If possible could you provide me with the link to download the information /guide required to unlock and load the custom rom (link for that as well please) on the device, I guess i would need to add super user and , unlock the boot loader etc?
waiting eagerly for your reply and thanks in advace

You can't unlock the bootloader on an AT&T Moto X, it is not the one you want to buy.

Yes... you can't unlock the bootloader on the ATT MotoX...
But you don't need to.
My wife is using right now the ATT MotoX in Brazil with working LTE Band 7.
I'm not entirely sure if on Jellybean, as it comes from factory, it WOULD work with Band 7. But, since I've been testing it, from the "camera OTA" to kitkat, it does work. Without custom rom.
You will only need to SIM unlock it.
And that's pretty easy.
The only thing from MY experience is that the baseband/modem from the ATT drains more battery than the one from VIVO (brazilian operator).
Maybe because the VIVO one, has the modem optimized for the Band 7.
4.2.2 had band 7 disabled. There is no guarantee a future update won't disable it again, keep that in mind. The phone is not certified for band 7 use in the US. Hopefully what they did was enable for use when outside of the US. If you have a phone with an unlockable bootloader such as a Rogers phone you can always ensure it will be enabled and install firmware with no bloatware at all and have no branding on the outside of the phone.
So there are many options, guess its just best to know the positives/negatives of each.

ok thanks,me little confused, so if I buy MOTOX on AT&t by using the Moomaker and use it in UK (do i need it tosim unlock?) then I will be able to use the Band 7 in UK, but the phone should have installed the 4.4 kitkat ? so can i upgrade the jellybean which will com as a pre-installed to 4.4 leaked kitkat withoutout unlockng rthe boot loader?
Thanks in advance

JB 4.2.2 factory default may not support Band 7 @ ATT, but JB 4.2.2 with camera OTA does.
And that is still 4.2.2
I can confirm because I used it for a while, before att kitkat official build.
But yes, you are right. ATT may disable Band 7 again in a future update. And with locked boot loader, there will be nothing to do about it.

The upgrade with come OTA automatically. And even if it doesnt , you can manually flash the update with the Official files from Motorola.
But you will need a SIM unlock code to make it work with you mobile operator in UK.

Well not directly answering your question, but i'm on an ATT Motomaker version with 4.4 and here in Hong Kong I do get LTE coverage (HK has 1800MHz and 2600MHz). Fairly sure the X doesn't have 1800MHz so this should mean that that phone has 2600Mhz active on 4.4.
Exactly. ATT has band 7 working on kitkat.
We are just warning that ATT may remove it someday.
I think (my opinion) that is safe to go with it.
But again, you won't be able to flash Brazilian or Canadian radio on it if they remove support. Because the boot loader is locked.

Moto x t-mobile us in uk network
i bought an t-mobile version of moto x and using it here in UK with vodafone. The top right icon shows 4G so not sure if that means that it is using LTE? The vodafone LTE only works on 2600 and 800 mhtz but if you look at the spcs of t-mobile version its no way matches, slightly confused. Looks like that after 4.4 kitkat motox supports all LTE bands, i know it sound stupid but here on this forum we can see that it is case for moto x at&t and then t-mobile(mine). Any expert views?

Isn't 4G used for HSPA+ in the US? That might be an explanation. You can check under Settings -> about phone -> status which connection is used.

Great, things like getting little clearer so if it does not have babd 7 then why does it show 4G on the top right corner i mean for example depending on the signal type available in a particular area the icon should also change e.g. 3G, H, E, G etc? And the wird thing is it shows hsdpa+ in the 'about phone' section despite the 4G icon display in status bar, am i missing something here?

It is a US Moto X. In the US they have the phone show 4G when using HSPA and 4Glte when it is connected via LTE.(They don't care what 4G is supposed to mean, they want everyone to think they are connected at a very high speed)
Have had LTE in our area for years just noticed the other day both Moto X phone connecting on 4G?
Only setting I find is Auto and or 2 G
Under settings, Data, other, mobile network, preferred network type.
I'm I missing some other setting or trick ?
LTE is checked in APN setting

Change back LTE to unspecified. Make sure you have the LTE APN and the dot beside it is highlighted.

If my memory serves 4.2.2 only showed 4G. 4.4+shows 4G with a small LTE above it. Ignore my screenshots cause my signal bars are modded. Here's what your APN settings should look like...
I can't attach screenshots for some reason...
I'll try and upload them when I get to a PC

Did your phone update overnight? If you're stock you might have gotten 4.4.3
Upgrade was done Sunday it was doing this prior to 4.4.3
I'm using Motorola Moto X with Verizon Wireless (XT1060) (on unlimited data plan) and Android KitKat 4.4.
I'm having some _MAJOR_ issues with battery( and bluetooth as well. The only reason I didn't update my phone yet is I _REALLY_ need to have WiFi tethering and as far as I understand I cannot update my phone to even 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 as I'll lose root and therefor wifi tethering.
I will definitely try to wait for Dan Rosenberg and/or Justin Case, however as of now as far as I know it's not certain if/when an usable exploit/tool would be released to public, so it's a long shot(
my question is with recent Obama signing bill about "unlocking" cell phones, could that be another way or is it something completely different?

This has nothing to do with bootloader unlocking. This is in regards to SIM unlocking, which allows you to take your device to another carrier.

You can take the 4.4.2 OTA and still root with PieTowelRoot, I have a moto x on 4.4.2 right now rooted with it and using the entitlement hack by kryptonite, the set up works nice.

I don't even get 2 hours of screen time(( I guess its also depends on apps you have installed and usage, before i took OTA update from 4.2.2 I was getting _MUCH_ greater screen time for sure, so I was thinking since there are bugs in 4.4, updating to anything higher would (re)solve at least some of them, but going that route has its own pros and cons.

Verizon LTE phones are sim UNlocked out of the box, and considered "global" due to quadband GSM support, and some HSPA support.

Verizon users on a TIERED data plan can tether without hacks or anything. I just eats from their tiered data bucket.
Those still on the old Unlimited data plans have to pay for tethering or hack their phone. Hence rooting being required.

Depends on whose towers Cricket and Net10 use. If they use GSM (like use T-Mobile's towers), then yes.
I can stick my T-Mobile USA sim (my work line used for GS3 and iPhone), into my personal Verizon X since I got it. Some of the firmwares work better than others, some I needed to manually enter APN settings, some I get "SIM is from unknown provider" etc.
With 4.4.4. its been the best and most compatible to date. I haven't had to enter T-Mobile's APN settings on my VZW X, and voice, sms, mms and data work, including HSPA+ and LTE. There is a slight lag of switching from H/H+ to LTE (like after I hang up a phone call), but that is about it.
Keep in mind, the VZW X supports LTE bands 4 and 13. T-Mobile uses 4 and I'm not sure if they use any other bands for LTE.
For HSPA/HSPA+ on T-Mobile, you need to be in areas where T-Mobile has re-farmed their 1900mhz from EDGE to HSPA/HSPA+
Now, if you use ATT... EDGE/GPRS/HSPA/HSPA+ will be fine, but LTE will likely not work as ATT uses different bands.

I'll be using ATT. If T-Mobile was where I live I'd be all over it. I made up my mind to leave Verizon and I just want to get going. I'm going to try and do the activate, port, and generate new Verizon number thing. I don't want to buy new GSM phones yet. Going to hold out until the new Moto X is released or Moto Maxx. Or Motorola Nexus to buy new phones. My wife won't give up her Droid Ultra at all. The Active Display has her hooked. So I have to wait to see what is coming in September.
I have an old Thundebolt and RAZR HD to activate on my verizon lines right now.
If I pull this off I'll have two unlimited data lines up for exchange for some expresidents
Thank you.

Do I have to keep my connection on global if I get to an area that my LTE drops off to get 3g? I had it set to LTE but got the roaming so I put it on global got 3g then got LTE when I got service back. Is this the normal process? I just got nexus 6 and wasn't sure if this is normal. Running cm12

Set it to Global if your outside of US territory LTE (Recommended) if you're within the US. Always remember to enable Airplane mode or Reboot when making the changes as a precaution.

Global and LTE are exactly the same if you are using a Verizon sim card. Global just allows you to use a GSM sim (typically for overseas travel).
Ok so I noticed if it drops I don't get 3g so is their a way to get 3g. My situation is when I put my phone in my locker it loses 4g and would default to 3g now I just get a ! On the network signal. So did I lose ability to get on 3g. I think I read on here that can happen
Yes surely lost 3g cause if I switch to 3g it gives me the !. So how do I restore 3g

I had same thing. Turned on Allow Roaming Data, and it goes into 3g. I'm assuming that since I'm in my home area, this won't cause me incur roaming charges.
Anyone figure out a solution for this yet?

I'm not sure there's an issue to solve. Mine goes between lte and 3g with no issues.

Mine will get 3g just have roaming enabled. With the way big red is kinda makes me nervous. Do you need roaming enabled to get 3g?
My roaming is off and mine will go between 3G and LTE with no problems. It does that a couple times a day at my work.
I found that on stock ROM it switched 4g to 3g fine. On aosp Roms I need to have roaming data enabled to get 3g and it says I'm on network 0000000.
I remember santod040 fixing that issue on HTC one m8 or was it digitalhigh I don't remember.

What do you mean by that? This the correct behavior and there's no fix?

Sorry, no I mean that is the correct description of what is happening. It is a rom issue. Stock works fine.

Ahh gotcha. Thanks
Can you people who are claiming that phone switches to 3g confirm that you are on Verizon? I was not aware that that this phone works on Verizon 3g since it is CDMA technology.

Yes am on vzw can get 3g without enabling roaming on stock rom, on custom roms at least the ones I've tried roaming needs to be enabled to have phone switch between 4g and 3g. N6 has only two variants us and the rest of the world. The us version has a cdma radio don't know about the other. Also on verizon there is no voice and data at the same time... yet may have it in the future.

My unlocked Nexus 6 is also defaulting to 3G unless I foce LTE in the testing menu.
Not sure what's up but I'm about to flash marshmallow today anyway.
I've been searching far and wide.. Each theory to understand the failures that's inside. DUN DUN
So, anyways I have an AT&T unlocked and currently using it for TMOBILE.
I've read things from build.props changes to flashing band radios such as .33 to try to obtain 4gLTE.
Also changing APN settings. Went through t-mobile services at least 5 times through live chat and calling.
Went through AT&T live chat. EVEN WENT AS FAR TO CONTACT SAMSUNG.
Every attempt failed to help me achieve 4gLTE for Tmobile using the unlocked AT&T s5.
People said they are able to use their AT&T phones and have LTE for Tmobile.
But on the other hand people said it is not possible because the 2 carriers use different bands or radio towers or whatever.
So, can someone please tell me is there a solution to having and keeping LTE for T-mobile using an unlocked AT&T phone. It's been about 3 days of search after work and this search for the philosopher stone is tiring.
I have a unlocked stock AT&T 4.4.2 g900a running on T mobile and have no problem getting 4g LTE. Are you sure uou have 4g lte in your area. Have you checked your APN

If your GF has a TMO S5 G900T phone its modem has all the LTE bands used by TMO. My S5 G900A and yours do not have ALL the TMO bands. But mine works just fine on TMO LTE. You need to check your baseband and android version. The last and best is G900AUCU2AOA1 and 4.4.4. If you don't have this, you must get the OTA update on your S5.
Search the XDA threads started by muniz_ri on how to root a G900A.
Good Luck.

So, I got everything under that thread to work. I was unable to get the OTA update on my phone, but following that thread I was finally able to get 4.4.4.
Stilll, I cant recieve LTE. Checked my apn settings and they are fine. Changed my build.prop to kltetmo (since it said att). A worker at this phone store said it might have been my baseband because it was at ND3, so I got it to Ng3. still didnt fix it and got 4.4.4 which changed it to oa1. Nothing is working.

Congrats on getting OA1 and 4.4.4 installed...no small task.
When you say "Nothing..." is working, what specifically do you mean?

If your phone:
1. Has G900AUCU2AOA1 and AT&T 4.4.4 installed and your Network Mode is set to LTE/WCDMA/GSM auto; and
2. your GF's G900T phone sitting next to yours shows About>Status Network = T-Mobile with Mobile network type= LTE and yours does not; then
Your AT&T modem does not connect to the TMO LTE channels used in the area. OR there is something broken in hardware or software on your phone.
Sorry, but have little more to offer because of my limited toolset. Perhaps others can help.
I began with totally stock ATT G900A and moved to TMO last October in Nor Cal. Had LTE from the get go, no problems other than poor coverage compared to AT&T at my home. Rooted in early February and installed Safestrap. Then ran stock AT&T with LTE until I upgraded modem, kernel, et al to OA1 and 4.4.4 last week with muniz_ri threads. Then installed Alliance B4 and now have faster phone with better reception and wi-fi calling! LTE solid the whole way where I had coverage.
Best wishes!

Yeah my GF had to switch in her phone and got an unlocked AT&T phone and she has LTE. This is sad, maybe I can try and go trade my phone for another at a local phone store.

Struggling with the same issue. Bought S5 G900A locked to AT&T a couple days ago. So I rooted, updated to OC4, bought unlock code for $2 on ebay and inserted TMO's SIM - everything works but no 4G LTE (only 4G and it's definitely slow HSPA speeds) no matter what secret code or APN settings I use. I don't have "network mode type" or something like that in menu. BTW, in the same areas (SF, Berkeley, Sacramento) LG G4 D850 att model on same TMO's SIM showed 4G LTE all the time...
Open up the phone dialer and enter
*#*#4636#*#*
When you enter that it should bring you to a device service menu.
Check the preferred network settings there.
Make sure it is on one of the lte auto modes
Try that... maybe change it and see if it helps...
There is also some settings there in the menu on band selection I believe
Also.... it could be a problem with the tmobile Sim card... if the Sim card is not for lte then lte won't work.. maybe try a new Sim at tmobile if all else fails
