Hi,
How can I install an app(not my app) on Windows Phone 8.1 emulator ?
I've tried to sign in into marketplace, which worked. But then, when I'm trying to install any app it fails with:
"There is a problem completing your request. Try again later. Inquiring minds may find this error code helpful: [email protected]
Then I've tried to download xap from Maretplace and deploy using deployment tool.
While emulator started, I've tried to deploy xap and got:
Error - End of Central Directory record could not be found. - which I guess something related to a zip stream. Maybe not.
Guys, do you have any clue ?
P.S. In general my goal is to run an app on emulator and make it think that it is at different location.
Thanks
You can't. Apps in Windows Phone store are either native code for ARM, or manage code compiled to MDIL (machine dependent intermediate language), which works only on ARM as well. As you know, the emulator is x86.
The deployment tool can't sideload apps from the store, because Store apps are encrypted with a DRM scheme that is not supported for sideloading.
don't know if it will work on emul but sideloading some downloaded store appx apps (wp8.1) will work , because the wp8.1 app's aren't encrypted.
here is a link on how to do that :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/win...8-1-creating-deploying-appx-packages-t2807743
remember that not all apps will work because of capabilities store apps can have and sideloaded apps doesn't support.

I want to install Opera Mini on my G1. the apk is out there but I can not figure out a way to make it run load do anything. Anyone no how to make this happen?
For those wondering why I want Opera Mini is becoz I really like Opera mini in a hurry.
You have to make sure to check the box that says allow outside downloads. But the opera mini wont work its for the old beta emulator and will not load on thre G1.
install???
How exactly do we install third party off the market apps??? I have apk extensions. now what???
Credits go to: Blogsdna.com
I have seen on many users asking on forum what is .apk file ? How to install .apk app on G1 phone ? How to install non market apk apps on android ? etc. A apk file is “android package file” with the extension ‘.apk’ use to install any application on Google Android powered mobile phone. So incase you need to install any application on your android phone you need to have file with .apk format.
Installing any application on google android is pretty easy but installing non market apps on android phone is little tricky one. Well don’t worry here is guide for installing .apk apps on android phones.
How to Install .Apk Apps on Google Android G1 Phone
1. Install and open the Apps Installer application from the Android Market.
2. This opens a view showing *.apk application names in the sdcard root directory.(note, if no AppNames are listed you have no .apk files in the root directory of the SDCard)
3. Touch the app name to initiate installation of the app.
4. The app is now installed
How to Non-Market .Apk Application on Google Android G1 Phone
1. Download and install Google Android SDK.
2. Now type adb in a command shell will display all the options, adb.exe is SDK tool used to install applications and interface with the device.
3. Now Connect Your G1 Phone to your computer using USB cable. You need to install Drivers for this. Download Android USB drivers from here. This driver is required for adb to interface with an android G1 phone using USB cable.
4. Go to Settings/SD card & phone storage and Unmount/eject SD Card. You can enable it again later after you installed your third-party application.
5. Go to Settings/Application settings and enable Unknown sources.
6. Download the Application installer .apk file to a local folder on your computer, Now type below command at command shell to install app.
adb install <Full Path to apk file><apk file name>
The above guide is only application for windows XP users and Windows Vista users wont be able to use it, since android sdk for windows vista is not available.

I have Opera mini 4.2 apk in my files if you need it.

There's no such menu. i.e. "disable Use for USB storage" at "Settings/SD card & phone storage" in T-mobile G1.
To enable ADB, you'll need to turn on "USB debugging" in Settings - Application settings - Development.
Opera mini 4.2 beta is on marketplace now anyway.
actually, there is another way. download the app from the internet (either using Android or PC) and move it to the SD card. then download any file browser app (such as IO File Manager) from Android market. open file browser app and locate the downloaded app from the internet and open it. that's it...
Can you add Twidroid to the mix

Thanks!
this should b made a sticky
FYI: Opera is also on SlideME Marketplace. You can install directly from within SAM. It's under "Communications" category.
If you don't have SAM, just visit http://SlideME.org/sam2 from your G1 and download SAM.
help... please? lol
okay i've read through a lot of threads the past couple hours and i just can't figure this out. i can't install 3rd party apps using apps installer or a file manager, but i can install perfectly fine from the market. it tells me that i need to free up some space in order to do so. i have the box checked and such for installing 3rd party apps in settings, and i'm running JF1.42 RC33... what the heck could the problem [email protected]
might be a dumb question, but do you have enough space(mine starts complaining @ less than 5mb left)? menu-settings-storage-internal space.
try adb install, if previous post doesn't help
aye, i'm well above 5MB even without the /data/data move and the /app move, i believe i'm somewhere around 25mb if i keep everything on my phone. so you think the ADB install will fix this? i will have to try it when i get off of work, i don't think the DoD will take kindly to me using their computers for it lol. what thread is that listed under?
Very Simple to install downloaded apk apps!!!
1. Go into menu/settings/applications and check the box allow install of non-market applications.
2. Then download the app: ApkInstaller
Once you do this, you download the apk file from the internet. Save it somewhere on your memory card. Open ApkInstaller and search for the file on your memory card and install.
It's just that simple. I do it all of the time.
Have fun!
Install .apk
Through Terminal Emulator without adb or another install application (AppsInstaller):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3425442#post3425442
All these methods seem pretty confusing... All I do is just click allow third party apps and then click the .apk file in oi file manager.
If you realize when this thread was created, there was no file manager

My bad. Sure glad the file manager came out so I don't have to go through all that trouble .
As I understand it, the Amazon shopping app is only available on the US Android Market.
I'm in the US anyway (I suppose the Nook doesn't know that), but I installed Market Enabler and set it to T-Mobile US (also tried Verizon US).
Force closed the Market and cleared it's cache, but the Amazon app still doesn't show up.
Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?
I don't know if it's because it a B&N device but I could not get it to install from the market, so I had to find the apk and install it that way. It updates normally but getting it on there in the first place meant tracking down that pesky apk.
download appbrain along with fast web installer, you will be able to find and install the official amazon app from there.

I downloaded and installed the APK from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4268726&postcount=5
Which works, but how do I update it? I'm guessing they're past v1.0.0 by now ...
EDIT: Tried AppBrain, which shows v1.0.6, but won't update when it tries to via the Android Market app: "The requested item could not be found." Fast Web Installer tells me that Google disabled it's ability to function with the latest Market updates.
I did find v1.0.6 is here though: http://reviewhorizon.com/2011/01/ho...or-requested-item-could-not-be-found-message/
Still doesn't help with updates to the app though.
Been using a rooted NC for a while and love it.
One of my problems was that I couldnt get certain apps from the Android Market, like Evernote and Yelp. Not sure of the reason.
Anyway, I've found that by using the Amazon App store, I've been able to download and install some apps that I couldn't find previously through Android Market.
Just wanted to let people know that Amazon's a great addition to the rooted NC.
Amazon appstore
I haven't been able to install the Amazon AppStore app....keep getting a FILE UNSUPPORTED error.
Nook Color 1.1 rooted.
Did you allow non-market apps?
Yes, I have allowed non-market apps. You have to download the apk file directly from amazon, but then when i try to install it from the device it says that installing apk files is not allowed. Can someone tell me the easiest way to install an apk file to rooted 1.1?
EDIT - nvm By going into NookColorTools, checking and unchecking Allow Non-Market Apps, I was able to install the Amazon Appstore with Apps Installer.
well, amazon app store is nice thing however as i understand works only in US. so its quite limited

I would also like to know.
Had the same issue. Here is what I found that works.

The relevant portion is under Activity 4:
Activity 4: Install apk packages directly from the Nook Color
If you get Install blocked and Installation of download apks is not supported messages when you try to install an apk package directly from your Nook Color, you’ll need to perform the following steps to enable it
1. Download SQLLite 3.7.4 or later and install it under the Android SDK \ Tools folder. From the SQl Lite page you can download sqllite-shell-win32-x86-3070400.zip. Inside there is a sqllite3.exe that has to go in the Tools folder inside your Android SDK installation.
2. Open a command line windows (Activity 2, Step 4) and type the following commands: (replace android-sdk-windows with your path to where Android SDK is stored on your computer. The main ideea is to get to the tools folder where you have both adb.exe and sqllite3.exe)
C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>adb pull /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db settings.db
C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>sqlite3 settings.db
sqlite> update secure set value=1 where name='install_non_market_apps';
sqlite> .q
C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>adb push settings.db /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
I downloaded and used ADB Wireless from the market, which is easier than getting ADB working through USB.
is there any way to create an app for wp8.1 like xap deployer i mean an app installed on phone that can deploy other apps copied in SD card
i think customWPSystem app does something like this
*
first: you need developer unlock (pay or free)
second: you need to install WP SDK 8.1 (full or lite) to computer
third: you need to unlock phone with tool from WP SDK 8.1
fourth: now you can deploy xap files to phone or SD (depend to settings in storage sense where to install app) with tool from WP SDK...
I don't want to deploy apps using computer i want to create an xap that installed on phone and deploys apps, something like store
thanks for reply:good:
Tried asking this in the newbie Q&A, but no response.
I have updated my Fire 2015 tablets with the custom ROM CM12 (from 5.01). My sincere gratitude to GGOW and those involved.
The problem arises when I try to sign-in to my game (Clash of Clans). It states I requires an update to Google Play Games. The tablet downloads the update but then returns the message: Can’t Install App.
I have installed supersu# and according to Root Check the tablet is currently rooted. Per suggestions I found in this forum, I tried to install an older version of Google Play services using the apk from APK Mirror. I downloaded it to the SD card and tried to use the CM FileManager to run. I granted all the permissions it asks for but it states “App not installed”. The same occurred when I tried to install Google Calendar. It seems that other non-Google apps install just fine.
I am admittedly very new to the Android scene (we all have to start somewhere). Is there some method I can use to uninstall the version of Google Play services on my tablet and reinstall? I appreciate any suggestions.
I ran into a problem when i didn't have Google play games installed, trying to install play games from the play store would result in a fail so i installed an older version , try searching "com.google.android.play.games-2.2.09" they should be dated 28 Jan 2015 they should then update from the play store fine, it seems there's a couple of apps that we have to install older versions first but they update ok.
I have downloaded Google Play Games from an apkmirror and problem solved

Best solution
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-games/
Google Play Games 3.5.17 (2463965-070) (x86) (nodpi)
Download the APK
put in a folder call it "GooglePlayGames" or whatever you want
Copy it to system/app/
Change permissions to one match of the other system apps so they are the same permissions on the folder and apk
Reboot and google play games will be installed

Thank you Ownster! It worked perfectly - still not fully sure why - but I am very appreciative.
