Hey guys,
I have a Z1 C903, which doesn't work as a wifi tether nor bluetooth tether. I can turn it on, and other devices can see it, however when trying to connect, the signal drops completely.
If I wait the signal will restart and become full strength, where I will need to manually connect, which proceeds to the signal disappearing again. I've tried unsecure, wpa2, wpa to which I have no luck either. Devices such as laptop will say limited connection, whereas android tablets and phones will refuse to connect and will say "Saved, secured with WPA2" or something else if i change the password method.
I've tried searching for any reports of wifi tethering not working, but the problems seem to be different from my situation.
More details on my device:
It has an unlocked bootloader
Now running Paranoid android
Problem occurred on stock 4.3, nut 4.4 (I assumed it was a glitch on Sony's drivers, and have waited for months now for a patch)
Could a faulty TA do this?
Any ideas?
Am I f***ed?
Cheers

Flash your phone by flash tools including wipe apps log and cache and system
It should solve your problem
And of course first re-lock your BL and flash to stock Rom

Sorry about late reply, I am out in urban areas without internet connection. I'll try doing this tonight.
Am I right in assuming all Z1 CM ROMs have this problem, if I must install a stock-based ROM?

Oh, sorry I forgot to tell you
You should use stock rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469191&page=145
Go here and fun your phone model and download the version and region you want
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
You can try to change the name of your phone (Network SSID) to a simpler form instead of default.
I got it working
I got it working thanks to your suggestion, Saeed.
I flashed the stock ftf from the mega thread and that restored my tethering capabilities. I then proceeded to reinstall the ParanoidRom and now the tethering works as well.
I'm not sure what happened, but I'd assume something went wrong when upgrading to 4.3 and the problem stayed when I then upgraded again to 4.4 and then to paranoid.
Thanks

I am on rooted stock LPY. I noticed that whenever I try to connect to wifi it says connecting then stuck at obtaining ip address and then disconnected. I have tried more than one router and I am getting the same results. I have googled this and one solution is to have a static ip address. The problem is that this setting is no longer available in ICS. Any idea how to fix this without wiping (I am too afraid to wipe given all the fuss about it).

Did you flash the LPY Rom with or without full wipe? That might be the cause.
You can flash a new modem and see if it's fixed. I can't think of anything else...
Experiment with frequency band under advanced wifi settings.

When i was on ICS i had the same issue.
This is what made it work for me:
- remove network from device, disable wifi and turn off device
- turn off internet modem(if you have any) and router, wait at least 2 min.
- turn on modem and router
- turn on device, enable wifi and connect to network
Hope it works out for you

With wifi disabled, if you have root, go to /data/misc/dhcp/ and delete all 3 files there.
I had problems on LPY where wifi would connect but ip address wouldn't get assigned.
Deleting the 3 files in /data/misc/dhcp/ fixed it for me. No probs since
Re-flash with wifi off, make the sincronization with google on 3g and then turn on wi-fi connection

I gathered all my courage and flashed a pre rooted GBrom via pc Odin, no wipes, no cleaning, no nothing . once back on GB i only performed one hard reset and felt confident enough to flash CWM back on it. I would give you the link, but am on my phone right now and can't find it, but the rom is in Bodivas thread around here.
It worked out well for me, but as you probably know...no garantuees.
Btw, sorry to see your wifi still not working

Hmm. Those 3/4 files should get recreated if DHCP is working properly on your phone.
Perhaps you phone is missing stuff in /system/etc/dhcpcd/?
Another thing just popped into my mind - did you restore your Wifi Access point details via Titanium Backup? I think that may have been an issue for me too on LPY... don't restore is best.
Or just downgrade to GB, full wipe and flash LPF
Do you have soundhound or dolphin browser hd installed?

I'm on LPY too. When I'm at office I have no issues with wifi connection but when I'm back home I start to have issues. It shows connected and I get no error or disconnected messages what so ever. But device looses wifi connection short time after connected. I check wifi connection on laptop and there is no problem but on my Note even though it shows connected I have no connection. Turning wifi off/on fixes it sometimes but most if the time it doesn't.

I just saw this post and thought I shoud help him even after two years passed.
Go to Settings >> Wireless and Networks >> Turn on WiFi
Long press on connected network >> Modify Network >> IP Settings>> Menu >> Static
Assign your IP address and leave other credentials as they are. Save settings and you are done.
Recently my phone stopped connecting to all WiFi networks. When I turn WiFi on it says "obtaining IP address" and then instead of connecting says "saved". The phone is running stock ICS and is rooted. If you need anymore technical details I'd be happy to provide them
Here is what I have tired so far
-ensured airplane mode is off
-rebooting the phone
-pulling the battery
-resetting my router (i really believe this is a phone problem as it happens with my wifi at work as well)
-running scripts in the terminal
-ran the FXR Wifi Fix and rescue app
-set IP to static
Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Uhh...
A reboot didn't fix it?
Is your bootloader locked... Maybe try a new kernel if that's an option...

Turns out the bootloader was unlocked. Just re-locked the bootloader, but still no WiFi. Do you recommend any kernels?
You're sure you haven't been playing with Roms and Kernels? If you're S-On and you start trying roms without flashing the boot.img file associated with the rom separately, you get similar wifi connectivty issues as you are describing.

Thanks for your reply. In the past, around 3-4 months ago I was heavily messing with ROMS (not kernels though). Now I am on stock ROM, I flashed the boot.img of the stock ROM before I flashed it and WiFi was working for 3-4 months. Just a couple of days ago it stopped working and I have no idea why.
Confirmed that phone won't connect to any WiFi network
Just drove down to McDonalds and tried to connect to their free WiFi. Same results, no connection. Any further help is appreciated!
I blame poor coding on HTC...
Unlock your bootloader and flash faux's kernel via fastboot and then the zip to get proper WiFi drivers...

Hello All,
I am afraid this not is going to be a short and easy story... I will try to be short
After the Stock update to 4.4.2 i got finally fed up with the fact that the long awaited KitKat drains battery like a power addict and decided to go back to stock 4.2.2 - which, for me, solves two problems - in this version the Bluetooth connectivity in my car works properly and the battery is used more 'soberly' as well as that I can easily root it and clear all the bloatware.
I found several stock versions of 4.2.2 - e.g. C6603_10.3.1.A.0.244_Generic NCB.ftf, C6603_10.3.1.A.0.244_CE.ftf, C6603_10.3.1.A.2.67_CE.ftf
After flashing them with the latest flashtool everything seems fine - battery, bluetooth, wifi etc. BUT the mobile data has the following problem: the phone connects to 4G, 3G and GPRS, but apart from Youtube none of the applications is able to use the Internet connection from the mobile operator. This to me seems like a problem with DNS resolution but I do not have any firewalls etc. installed or activated.
It may be worth mentioning that when Chrome tries to connect to a web address (e.g. xyz) for an instant there is a message on the screen "Redirecting you to xyz web address", maybe this is the place where it goes wrong? Needles to say that the connection to the specified website is not possible because "Chrome could not find the xyz page"... (this does not happen on wifi connection).
I would be very grateful if U could suggest a way out !
Have you tried downloading the Internet setting ?

Hi,
I reloaded the Internet settings from my operator several times, also changed to another sim. What is really puzzling is that Youtube has no problem with connecting. There is something funny going on with the DNS service I suppose....
Any thoughts ?
Thx

Hello - thanks for this attempt, but unfortunately no luck with it. Here is what I did (please check if I understood you correclty):
1) downloaded - C6603_10.4.1.B.0.101_CE.ftf (4.3)
2) flashed 4.3.(above) with Flashtool (wiping all)
3) restarted - mobile data could be accessed by Chrome and other apps
4) flashed 4.2.2 ver 10.3.1.A.0.244 and then 10.3.1.A.2.67 with the data wipe disabled,
Result - again in 4.2.2 the mobile data is not available to apps other than Youtube ...
Any more thoughts on this?
Thanks again !

Thanks anyway. I need to decide whether I have the bluetooth and no mobile data or mobile data and no bluetooth, Seems like Sony is not too generous ...

Maybe you can try flashing the 4.2.2 via flashtool (wipe everything) to solve this problem, please give it try.
Actually, 4.3 works without bugs so far and have no thoughts about what causes this problem.

Hello - thanks! I tried complete wipe/flash of 4.2.2 and that's where my problem is - 4.2.2 data transmission in mobile is lost whereas on 4.3 or above my bluetooth does not communicate with my car's handsfree (this issue is being reported by many users after upgrade to 4.3.)
So I am stuck ... for the moment I am staying on 4.3 and getting really tired of this whole Xperia stuff

Hello barbacan! I've got exactly the same situation here. I was on 4.2.2 becouse it was latest firmware that worked with my car (Opel Insignia DVD800). A week ago I had motherboard failure, so I send my phone for a replacement. I received a brand new one with 4.4.2 installed which of course didn't communicate with my car. So I flashed exactly the same 4.2.2 file which I use with previous phone, but this time data transmission did not work. When I upgraded to 4.4.2 transmission was back again. I think Sony have changed something in newer phones hardware and they are not compatible with older firmwares. I've been serching for a few days, but couldn't find any solution...
Ok, I think I have found the solution. Changing APN settings from default IPv6 to IPv4 resolved the issue for me. Just change it in settings, save, reboot the phone and data transfer works again!

THANKS A LOT!
This is the solution.
I was suspecting something to do with DNS services but did not realize that Adroid 4.2.2. does not have IPV6 support. Now that I changed my APN from "InternetIPV6" to plain "Internet" the phone works like a charm. I will not be tempted to upgrade at any price

Hi guys i have a story to tell you... my WiFi doesn't work on XT1058 5.1... i thought was a Lollipop related issue so wanted to downgrade to 4.4.4 and see if the problem really was related to android version, but it isn't. I downgraded successfully from 5.1 to 4.4.4 with your tutorial, but the WiFi problem persist. Now i know i'm really screwed up becouse i tried i believe everything possible...
- Airplane mode
- Factory reset
- Cache wipe
- Full wipe
- Custom rom
- Custom kernel
- Android 4.4.4
- Different AP's and routers
- Delete wpa supplicant conf...
So i don't know what to do. Te specific problem is that WiFi can see available networks, but randomly some of them disappear and others show up, and when i try to connect for ex. to my home network, it says "connecting" and then "saved", with all networks happens the same. Does anyone has a clue, or maybe somebody in the same situation?
I have similar problem before. I tried returned to full 4.4.2 stock and no go.
In the end , I send it to moto and they replace me a new one which costs me 100 bucks.
I think It could be a hardware problem and might caused by running wifi hotspot too often...

Hello all,
Just having an issue with my Z3 compact. The wifi keeps connecting and disconnecting every few seconds. This is a new development and it has never done this in the two years I've owned it. It finds the networks, connects and then promptly disconnects after a few seconds and then starts to look for networks once again.
Here are a few things I've already tried....
I have tested the same WiFi network with my S7 and laptop and they are stable on this network.
I have tried a different WiFi network with the same results
I have downgraded to a previous TWRP backup of my ROM when the phone was still stable.
I have changed the ROM completely with a factory reset and new custom ROM flash
None of the above has worked so far so not sure what has happened and if this is a possible hardware failure of the modem? Is there a modem file that could possibly be flashed?
Thanks for the help.

This has been mentioned several times in the Q&A thread, and @toxic-hero even posted a fix
Thanks Didgesteve,
I have tried the Legacy DHCP Client fix in the developer settings and I've also done a "Network settings reset" under Settings > Backup & reset before rebooting and still no help. The issue persists and I'm at a loss as to what the hell has happened here....
Same problem... I still have guarantee, so I flashed back the original up-to-date firmware and the phone was sent back to the local sony service, and I'm waiting for it.
