On verison moto X 4.4.2 and have rooted with Pie, but trying to get towelroot working and not getting it. Have the app installed and says rooted but fx file explorer and su says no root.
I've read the towel root threads and not sure I understand.... busybox and gravity something NEED to be installed before towelroot will root?? Or does the towelroot app work by itself? I cant get it to.

Since we already have a towelroot thread, this question probably belongs inside there. The mods don't approve of opening duplicate threads.
YES, you NEED busybox - specifically the Stericson variant. Don't use any of the other variants (it is linked in the OP of the towelroot thread). Gravitybox / Xposed are OPTIONAL, and you do not HAVE to have them to use towelroot.
Other than that, I have no advice for you, other than post this IN the towelroot thread. Those people are more likely to be in a position to help you...
(I'm unlocked and don't use Towelroot / PIE)
Good Luck

Well its a question thats why i put it here.. I read thru the towel root threads and nothing looked simple so I started this here for SIMPLE step directions. I have installed busybox and don't know what to do with it.. still no root with towel root, but continuously get root over and over by rerunning the last 2 commands of Pie root. Would be nice to be able to get root without rerunning Pie
My Simple steps so far
1. flash stock
2. downloaded towelroot and ran it, changed the last dig to a 1 (if that matters)
3. no root.
4. Pied my moto and got root and than rebooted and lost root.(expected)
5. tried towel root again and still no root. (not expected, thought i would have root)
6. made this thread downloaded busybox and installed it. don't know what else to do with it, says installed correctly,
7. rebooted and tried towel root again and still NO root.
8. ?? need help.

Questions are OK in their appropriate discussion threads....even if those threads are located in 'general'.
I can tell you that Towelroot has inherent limitations because of the SU context that is being used.
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53936577&postcount=108
and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53960943&postcount=120
Although several of us (myself included) have tried to get the DEV to comment on the issue, we haven't heard a word back... For these reasons, it is suggested to use PIE and PIE only, and just try to avoid rebooting your device...

Thanks for trying to help.. I'm about to give up.. Pie works great you don't need to run all 4 root commands.. just 3 and 4, the pushed files remain on the phone after reboot so just run 3 and 4 commands and rooted again.. wish it was possible to run those commands via and app!

I rooted my phone about 5 months ago and toyed with it a little, but now I noticed it's not rooted anymore. I've been trying to use Pete's tool to either root or unroot it and I keep getting this error:
ERROR: adb could not be granted root access via local.prop method
Any ideas? I'd be happy to either get it rooted or back to stock again.
Thanks

Run this instead, you may have lost root when you got the last update. follow the instructions you will be fine
Have you tried the 4ever root method as described here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1279825
Also, for future instances: It's a good idea to 1) search and if that doesn't answer your questions then 2) always be sure to list what system version you're on or what ROM/rev to help aid in troubleshooting.

if Droid Th3ory's site is still down, someone made this mirror for 4ever root:

Tried that with all the options and it didn't work. Even with the pre-release drivers it just said waiting for device when it's at the Fastboot. I tried the other ones and they all failed.
I have been looking for a "root on demand" solution. I have a few custom programs that run for work which require a "non-rooted" android device. I was hoping to find a solution to root my phone, use titanium backup, then un-root but have not been successful in finding something like that.
FYI, if psouza4's oneclick root fails,
AND
43V3R root failed too,
THEN
try the ROTA893 root (obviously only works on .893 firmware)

My device is S4 active from AT&T. I followed this post Root 4.3 I537UCUBML2 Galaxy S4 Active I537, Working Method (can not post link, pls google it) to root it. Everything seems fine expect the step to install SU binary in SuperSU. I guess it's rooted, because I can see ADB shell is listed in the SuperSU app. But I still can not get full access as root user. Any one can help me?
BTW, I've tried activeroot and towelroot, both didn't work.

I searched for the post you described and found this. If that is the method you used, it is completely outdated and should no longer be used. Since you've modified your system I think the only way you're going to get it to work is to:
Reflash the stock ML2 firmware (this will completely wipe your phone)
Root your phone using towelroot
Install SuperSU from the Play Store
In the future please visit the i537 Firmware Thread for anything related to stock firmware and rooting. I try to keep it up to date with the latest methods.

Thanks for replying. I tried the towelroot before I tried this one. It didn't work. So you mean if I use this firmware, then I can root it?
How to reflash firmware, any instruction? Thanks.
The instructions on how to reflash are in the firmware thread. Simply find the post at the top of the thread with xxxxxML2 and you will see links to discussions and downloads.

Thank you so much!
Has anyone found a way to root? With no more download mode we can't even downgrade... No root methods work eg: towel, stump, vroot,io etc...
If anyone does find a way to root please update here!
Someone posted in another thread that they gained root on the D95920s with stumproot. I was going to flash back to stock at some point today to take the upgrades and test it out. Will update my findings later.
Yes! Root!
I just got done testing. I installed the latest update which broke root. I used STUMP to root. It worked! Verified with root checker before and after running STUMP.
Do any of you have the OTA update file?
Stump says already rooted

Any luck? I try stump root and it says device us already rooted. I guess I should have used lg flash tool first to completely restore, and then maybe stump root would've worked? I think it is kinda dumb that stump root refuses to even try to root your device if it has been rooted before but lost root due to ota. If only it had a message like "it appears your device is already rooted, would you like to reroot anyway?" Or something like that. Anyways I'm getting by okay without root, so its no big deal if I am stuck, but if there is a way to make stump root work that would be cool.
@steven_computer_guy. Did u try going to playstore and download/install SuperSU apk and then recheck if your rooted or not?
Yup. SuperSU says "there is no supersu binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem"
Try factory reset via button combo and try towel or stump root?
I'm using a Samsung-SGH-I537UCUCOC7, Android Version is 5.0.1
TowelRoot didnt work for my device so I used KingRoot as a last resort. However I only wanted to use it to install the root and not have it around as its a bit intrusive. I tried using SuperSume but no matter what I do when I run it, it always stops at 10%. I've tried 5 different times.
Do I have any other options?
Do you have full root or does it go away when you reboot? If you have permanent root and SuperSUMe is not working there is also a script file you can use. You'll have to search for it. I had the same problem with a Kyocera Hydro Icon I had. I ended up using the script, but I think I figured out why at first neither of them were working.
If you could try something as a test for me I'd appreciate it. In my case I rooted the phone with an older version of kingroot, then kingroot updated itself to the new app...but not the new binary. So I unrooted with the newer app and then rerooted with it also so I would have the new binary. After that the script worked for me and I bet SuperSUMe would've too, but I tried the script first.
So try unrooting and rerooting with the newest version then try SuperSUMe...if it fails then try to find the script.

I used version 5.0.4 of kingroot. How low do you want me to go?
Also the binary thing your talking about I noticed it when I downloaded SuperSU it said it was missing some binary and I couldnt use that app either even after I rooted with KingRoot. It sounds like my only hope is that script you were talking about but I'll try a lower version of KingRoot first. I have no idea where I would look to find that script so I can get more info what I'm suppose to search for let me know.

For me I rooted with whatever version you get from their website, but after you root it downloads and updates itself. I unrooted and rerooted with the update to get the new binary. Also, I'll see if I still have a copy of the script on my cpu. If I do I'll post you a link.

I used version 4.5 instead of the latest 5.0.4 and afterwards ran SuperSume. It got rid of it no problem and I still have my root access. Thank you.
last question, I also own a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. It was my first Android phone ever and I wasnt aware that AT&T keeps the bootloader locked on their phones. Will any amount of begging and crying to them get them to unlock the bootloader? If the answer is no are there any unofficial means to unlock my bootloader for the phone?

Not too sure but I think it's possible. They unlocked and rooted the verizon and t-mobile versions, so possibly...maybe even by the same process. Search youtube.
Hello, I'm very new to rooting, but over the last few days I've spent hours and hours trying to figure out how to root my phone. Last year I used KingRoot on my Galaxy S4, but it inundated my phone with ads and malware stuff, so I've developed an untrust towards these one-click root apps. I also read how that Android 5.0+ can't be rooted with these one click programs anymore. So I searched up how to root Honor 8, with one of the coming up being on this site. I followed the steps (as confusing as they were), and ended up unlocking my bootloader, flashing TWRP and SuperSU. Now, the reason why I want to root is to use GameGuardian to mess around with some games. The title of the post on how to root the Honor 8 said, [Guide] Unlock Bootloader // Install TWRP // Root - one of these being root, but not once in the actual post do they actually specify when the root happens. I've completed the process, tried to run GameGuardian, and I still can't use it. I downloaded a root checker and it says that my phone isn't rooted. (Heres the link to the guide btw: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/guide-unlock-bootloader-tested-root-t3443946) So now I'm very frustrated as to how to root my phone, cos ik rooting can mean many things - including unlocking bootloader and all that with the TWRP custom recoveries and SuperSU, but all I want is a permissions root to let me get run GameGuardian..... Please someone help. I've looked high and low and I'm at a loss.

Flashing SuperSU on an unlocked device should yield the desired outcome if properly performed. Suggest you reflash the latest SuperSU build (at present 2.82 SR5) which can be obtained from here.

Didn't say that. I confirmed the procedure should work on a device with an unlocked bootloader caveated with "if properly performed". Recommend retrying with 2.82 SR5.
