I installed a CWM Recovery and it deleted my stock ROM so I decided to go and install PAC ROM which I found the WiFi doesn't work so I used Sony's flashtool to go back to stock ROM.
I want to be able to make a backup of the stock ROM then install another ROM such as CM
How do I install CWM and keep stock ROM?

I'm not sure what you did, but installing a recovery shouldn't affect your rom.
In any case, XZDualRecovery is what you need.

Yeah I must admit it is very strange.

I think you installed non-supported CWM. Try to download the exact one for your phone and flash it.

Here is what you have to do.
If you still have your MiniCM6 backup, restore it using a recovery. Full wipe, wipe cache and dalvik cache then power off your phone. Then, use Flashtool to flash back stock kernel.
If you do not have the backup, download MiniCM6, boot into recovery, full wipe, wipe cache nd dalvik cache, then flash MiniCM6. Power off and use Flashtool to flash stock kernel.
Done (hopefully)
Next time post in Q&A section.

I don't know. I think the question should be more clear
I'm sorry for that, I don't know and don't understand about flash tool or flash kernel..I'm really don't understand, I try to find answer and still don't know...could you explain me? Why do we do??
Sent from my E15i using XDA
First tell me which rom do you want to flash ?
We do the flashtool stuff if we want to install a kernel or sometimes rom.. But you can install rom through recovery also.
Look we use flashtool to:
1-flash new kernels
2-install recovery on stock kernel.
3-rooting the phone
4- unlocking the bootloader (last version)
5-installing apps.
6-creating bundles if we want to restore Eclair
----------//-------
To flash a new ROM:
if your bootloader is unlocked u flash a new kernel and then using recovery u flash the Zip file which is the ROM.
If u cannot unlock your bootloader then u cannot change your kernel and must use ROMS which support stock kernel.
----/////-----------
Sent from my XPERIA using XDA Premium.
Well he can use xrecovery if unlocking bootloader is not possible (?)
Did I tell anything wrong?
Yes he should use Xrecovery to flash new ROMs.
But he can't change the kernel or the phone will be bricked (softly)
Sent from my XPERIA using XDA Premium.
Oh yes..Lets see if he can unlock his BL or not
You didn't say anything wrong
If u don't know about flashtool this means that you are in stock kernel....
Two ways
First if you had made a backup with cwm you can restore it with cwm, that will replace the current rom with the one you had backed up
second,if you haven't made backup then install your old rom just as you installed it first time, put it in SD,go to cwm or xrecovery ,full wipe, wipe dalvik, install zip from SD....

Yes,what did I tell?!
If he is on stock kernel there is no need to tell him how to flash kernels......
Sent from my X8 using xda premium
I mean if he can unlock his bootloader he can flash kernels.
And I say maybe the reason his bootloader is unlocked is that he never tried to unlock it since he is a noooooob.

Depends if your backup includes the boot.
If it does then yes, if not then no
But its not a problem, if your backup does not include the kernel then just flash the kernel you are on now...you know which one you are on,
I guess I am on stock as its the rooted stock rom I am on, where do I find just the kernel?

Just flash a stock ftf and exclude everyting except the kernel...I have one backed up somewhere, but not here...I can post it another time, but you can just do what i said.
Also, look in yout backup file. If it includes a boot.img you should be fine to flash that recovery image and it should restore the kernel

Stock LT29i_1266-6178/LT29i:4.1.2/9.1.B.0.411 flasable with clockwork recovery.
Please, flash it at your own risk. If you do decide to flash it please back up your current rom before installing this one.
This rom is deodexed, rooted, busybox installed and zipaligned.
After flashing this rom you will have to re-flash CWM recovery.(or you can modify updater script to preserve recovery after flash - i didn't really feel like doing it) - sorry.
I flashed this over my stock rom without full wipe and found issue with wifi.

symlink("/data/etc/wlan_macaddr0", "/system/etc/firmware/wlan/macaddr0");

Thanks in advance.
Your old kernel will be flashed if you restore a back up. You can use flash tools to simply flash a stock ROM and your phone should be like it was the first day you got it. As you have unlocked your boot loader you can just flash a kernel with root at any time.

be careful with that i once flashed Existenz rom on 4.3.1 and it went into bootloop. if you want to go back to sony stock then it will be great to just flash the stock rom via Flashtool.
Or format system and data first

I have a Galaxy S with 10.1.3
But when I try updating to 10.2.1 it seems to fail
And I can't flash it with CWM. as thats when I get the error 7
Do I need to update CWM? or shall I just try another ROM like MIUI?
You can try to flash Stock 2.3.6 XWJVZ by Odin, root it by CF-Root or Semaphore kernel and then install clean CM10.2 by CWM. I think it should work.

For those following this thread
I restored the device to 2.2 Fro-Yo then I flashed it to Gingerbread before installing
CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS which rooted and installed the latest CWM recovery
Then installed C-Rom KK 6.6
Device running fine
