I recently bought a Galaxy gear with the intention of connecting it to my S4. However the app says it doesn't exist. Is there a way to install it from somewhere else than Samsung Apps ? If so , does anyone have a link and maybe some basic instructions ? ( Android n00b here )

Try search for nexus in the gear general forum...
For full features, you need a touchwiz rom
this only works with bluetooth 4 device I have bought and sad with my nexus 3
Im using this on a galaxy nexus with aokp nightly installed. Havent got notification to work yet but i bet if i flash a touchwiz rom i could probably "cheat" to make it work. Gear is running _null23

Looks like Tizen might be coming to the Samsung Galaxy Gear 1, the same Operating System as the Samsung Gear 2:

I think it's more or less finding ways to make Tizen more compatible with Android. The only difference between Gear-1 and Gear-2 IS the OS.

I purchased Docs Reader by Mobimax a while ago but now all links to it seem to have disappeared. it still shows up in my galaxy apps but it refuses to move it to my gear manager.
From what ive seen there isnt any custom rom, only android wear port for the gear 2
Hi guys. I am trying to connect my watch gear 1 to android phone Nexux 5 with Android 5.1. I tried all versions of gear manager and the assembly of those in this thread . Typically, gear manager or does not work , or when connected fails . Do the working methods of connecting to the nexus 5 with android 5.1?
Gear is tied in to Touchwiz framework. Even samsung phone running pure android won't work with gear.
