Extract the boot.img from the update.zip for PA rom, flash it with fastboot, then boot straight into recovery and flash the update.zip

Lol, i made this thread bcuz i dont know how to use fastboot + dont even know how to enter recovery.

Install this
minimal_adb_fastboot_v1.1.3_setup.exe - 2.12 MB
Then install flashtool from flashtool.net. Goto C:\flashtool\drivers and run drivers.exe
Choose Z1, flashmode and fastboot drivers.
Enable usb debugging and unknown sources on the phone.
Turn the phone off and attach it to the computer whilst holding the volume up button. Then goto the folder where you set up the fastboot, make sure you have no items selected and rightclick whilst holding the shift key. Choose open command window here.
then type
Code:
fastboot devices
you should get a result back indicating that there is an attached device and a few alphanumeric characters.
If not let me know.
If you do then carry on with this.
Extract the boot.img from the update.zip and place it in the same folder as the fastboot. Then type this if the kernel is called boot.img, if not, replace the boot.img with the name and extension of the kernel
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
To enter recovery just boot the phone and press the volume up button when the phone vibrates or the LED flashes (If it does not vibrate or flash just keep pressing it until it enters recovery)

OK, will try it later today.
there is just one thing missing, what to do after flashing boot.img ?

but i can't find it out!!! plz if someone else have to answer like this plz stay away... Man please if it was a joke this wasn't funny i really don't know how to flash a new f*****g kernel, to flash cm10.1 nightly
The Optimus Black doesn't use fastboot. Everything is done through recovery.
Download Clockwork Mod from the Play store, use that app to flash a custom recovery.
Enter recovery by repeatedly pressing volume down at power up or use a reboot to recovery app.
To flash roms/kernels, copy to your sd card, boot into recovery, select install zip.
The bootloader is not locked, unless you have flashed the offical LG ICS rom with the smartflash tool. If you have and want to unlock it, just flash any froyo/gingerbread offical LG rom with smartflash, that will unlock.
1. Make sure you are rooted, if not, read Nooby's how-to on how to do it. It's a sticky in LGP970 section on xda.
2. Once rooted, you can install ROM Manager and flash cwm/twrp recovery from there. Give it root permissions when asked for.
3. Boot into recovery using ROM Manager or any other third-party app. Flash the .zip for the kernel you want. Make sure it is compatible with the ROM you are using.
4. Once kernel flashed, boot into the system.
Bootloader is generally unlocked unless you are running official ICS on your OB. If that is the case, don't do any of the above mentioned steps as you will end in a boot loop.
If on official ICS, use Smart Flash Tool to flash unlocked bootloader. You can follow instructions here on jockjoint's thread
Once bootloader is unlocked and you have flashed su.zip as per instructions in the previouslsy mentioned thread, boot into recovery (it's already there in the unlocked bootloader flash).
Once in there, flash a compatible kernel and ROM as per your needs/liking.

A bricked Z1 with an unlocked bootloader

So I got my Z1 yesterday, was on 4.4.2 stock unrooted. I unlocked the bootloader using Sony's official website and fastboot, then I went on destroying the phone by flashing Philz touch recovery.img through fastboot.
And since then the phone has been bricked, I can only enter Fastboot through the blue led, while Flash mode doesn't show up any LED light and my PC sees the phone when on flashmode as n "S1 device with a parameter error".
I've tried all drivers, none worked, and the flashtool keeps suggesting I should update my drivers when connecting the phone on flash mode:
02/042/2014 22:42:11 - INFO - Device connected in flash mode
02/042/2014 22:42:30 - ERROR - Drivers need to be installed for connected device.
02/042/2014 22:42:30 - ERROR - You can find them in the drivers folder of Flashtool.

Is there any way I can recover from this through fastboot instead of the flashtool? I can still flash system.img and recovery.img through fastboot. I'd really appreciate any help right now.

Xperia phones do not have a recovery partition to flash recovery to via fastboot.
If you can enter fastboot, then flash a stock kernel.elf with flashtool (In fastboot mode).
Then you can use flashtool to relock your boot (I imagine you have not even taken a TA backup and you are new to xperia devices, your post suggests so)
then you should be able to use pccompanion to repair, or flashtool to flash a FTF
However, by flashing a recovery image you may have bricked the phone. try what I have said, if it does not work get back in touch. (Do you have access to jtag and setool?)

Can you link me to the files you suggested I try? There seems to be a truckload of them laying around the forum.
Also, yes, I am new to xperia phones. Didnt think they were this complicated to flash but I shouldnt have played with fastboot anyway. And no, sadly I dont have a jtag. Never needed one before.
Thanks for the help btw, I greatly appreciate this.
i dont think you have 100% installed the drivers, on windows 7 upwards you need to disable driver signature to allow any unsigned drivers to be installed
Look in the mega collection thread in the general section for a 442 ftf file. The kernel.elf will be in it

Is this 4.4.2?
Ok here is an update; after messing with fastboot for so long and a couple of kernel flashes, I managed to boot the phone But now its stuck on the Sony logo.
A sign of hope though lies with the fact that I managed to enter recovery mode and found CWM hanging there. So now Im probably going to try ADB push a rom file to the SD and try to flash it through recovery instead.
@gregbradley
Sounds good. The reason forth hang at the sony logo will be that you have wiped the system partition. Flashing a rom based on the kernel you have will enable the phone to boot

Would flashing a custom rom zip from the CWM recovery, fix the bootloop? Or could it also be a baseband/firmware issue too?
Im not really familiar with Sony's bootloader unlock process, does it allow kernel flash from recovery or only through fastboot ala Htc style?

do u have any rom on it or u just have bootloop? i u can't access to rom, u need with flashtool to flash stock rom, when u do that u loose your root and lose your dualrecovery... u need to root it again and install dualrecovery
second is
if u can access to rom instal ndr utility and reboot in clockwork mod recovery...
third option si to install via fastboot advanced doomloader kernel which has clockwork mod and has root... after that to flash custom rom but stock version of custom rom
Any of you guys know of a Stock rooted 4.4.4 rom that comes with the stock kernel in a flashable zip? I have looked everywhere for one but I cant find any.

4.4.4 Bootloader Unlock?
I have an Xperia Z C6616 (10.5.1.A.0.283) that I rooted using easy root via flashtool. However, in the service menu, it says I am unable to unlock the bootloader. Is this true? Will I be forced to flash back to 4.3 to unlock it?

If it says you cannot unlock your bootloader, then you cannot unlock it at all, regardless of which firmware version is installed.
The C6616 bootloader is permanently locked because Bell requested it be that way and there's no way (either officially or unofficially) around it, unfortunately.

Well thats incredibly frustrating. Is there any way then to flash new roms or install a recovery? Also, it might not matter, but before I updated to 4.4, it listed my model number as C6606.
Bootloader Issue
Hey guys, ran into a little issue. I flashed my phone with a stock ROM, C6603_10.3.A.0.423_Generic ES.ftf.
Figuring It'd be fine, I then proceeded to attempt to unlock my bootloader. However, this time after flashing this stock ROM, unlocking the bootloader would cause my phone to crash, resulting in having to reflash the stock rom again.
Any ideas?
Cheers.
Please help!
Hello, I need help with unlocking the bootloader for my Sony Xperia Z please. This is the first time I am doing this, so I am a extremely novice on these things. All I want is to flash the sony rom and install android 5 lollipop on my Xperia Z
I have done all the steps mentioned above but when I type the command fastboot.exe -I 0x0fce getvar version it just says waiting for device.
I don't know if my phone is even in fastboot mode. I have turned the developer mode on phone setting with USB debugging set to ON. When I connect my phone to the computer I press power and volume up for around 10 second before plugging in the USB. The phone vibrates 3 times and there is a sound in computer but nothing else happens. When I type the command adb devices, it shows no device attached.
I don't know if this is due to me not installing the drivers but I was tried to install Flashtool-drivers-1.5-20140318.exe file, the installation failed. So I went to advance startup setting and disable driver signing. It then installed. I also downloaded the fastboot package and clicked all the exe files. And my phone has its rooting status: Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes
Please help!

You're holding the wrong key combination.
Power your phone OFF first.
When the phone is off, hold volume UP only while connecting your device to your PC. Do not press the power button. The LED should light up blue when done correctly. You can then stop pressing the volume key.

Oh Thank you so much! I think I unlocked the bootloader now
So what do I need to do now to install custom ROM?
If I understood correctly, I need to flash the current Sony ROM and install different one? Then again what is root? Is unlocking bootloader rooting? Also is the information on the forum up to date? because according to it the newest firmware is 10.3.1.A.0.244/10.3.1.A.2.67. But my firmware is 10.5.1.A.0.292. Please help, I tried finding these information but can't find them.

In my own opinion, you shouldn't even unlock your bootloader without getting better known to the entire device and its ROMS/Kernels and etc.,
Anyway, I tink that you haven't made TA pratition backup even, and if I'm right, then you've erased your DRM keys forever without a way getting them back.
But if you have made TA partition backup, then we can proceed to explain next thing.
To flash a custom ROM, you don't have to flash newer nor older software version.
All you have to do is go to your favourite ROM thread and read the instructions very carefully, otherwise you're risking to brick/soft-brick your device.
But on different ROMs can be different flashing guides, for example, we can take "Validus" ROM:
VALIDUS
Flashing instructions are : (I'm going to quote them)
1. Make sure you have CWM installed and a working nandroid backup
2. Download the ROM.
3. Place the ROM on your SD-Card.
4.Extract boot.img included in zip and fastboot flash it via Flashtool or CMD
5. Reboot to recovery.
6. Wipe data-factory reset/cache partition/dalvik cache
7. Flash the ROM.
Optional- Flash GApps.
8. Reboot and Enjoy Validus!
Click to collapse
So in overall, that mean at first you've to have CWM (ClockWorkMod Recovery) (but I think that it's not necessary if you would flash boot.img with it either way)
Secondly, you've to put the entire ROM in your SD Card (not in phone memory), you can include gapps as well,
Third, you need to extract the file named "boot.img" from the ROM which you've downloaded (Now i'm talking about VALIDUS and ONLY IF YOU'RE GOING TO INSTALL THIS ROM EXACTLY), but don't remove it from .rar/.zip.
After you've done everything what is written above, you can flash boot.img using the command prompt and fastboot file, which you were using to unlock your bootloader.
The command is this : fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then, write fastboot reboot and as soon as your LED will change color, push the volume up rocker and then you will be in recovery. After that, go to "Apply Update" --> "Choose from files" or sth (don't remember now), --> "Validus.zip/.rar". and optional you can flash gapps either.
And then pus the button to "Reboot now".
That's all - you've newest Validus build.
But the main point is that for example you would take Pabx rom, you'll have to do everything using CMD (fastboot)
PABX's ROM YUGA L
Look at yourself and compare everything.
Validus ROM is customized than Pabx ROM. It has more customatizations either : APPS, Control, Mods, Gesture and etc., and Pabx ROM is pure-stock L (I think).
I hope I anwered to all ur questions, if not - quote me
Thanks!

Thank you very much for your reply and yes perhaps you are right. I should not mess with my phone's software. My skill and knowledge on this is extremely limited. Well, you shouldn't be afraid of flashing stock 5.0.x, as you're not flashing custom kernels. To flash pabx's rom, you just need to connect your phone via USB to PC, whilst holding Volum +. (Phone need to be turn on). Then blue led will show up and you're ready to write commands via CMD prompt, wich you can open in sdk/platform-tools/ (or simply download ADB and fastboot drivers).
To open them, just with holding RMB click on "open command prompt here", then write this command:
fastboot devices
Click to collapse
And if it will show you like CXXXXXX (or something like that, if not even first letter is C, it's alright), you're ready to go.
Then download all files needed from Pabx site (ROM and gapps). Extract both in ADB-Fastboot driver's folder (in which are fastboot.exe, adb.exe). It should be these files: userdata.img, system.img, boot.img.
And then you just simple need to flash these IMGs:
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Click to collapse
And then just type
fastboot reboot
Click to collapse
.
Your phone will reboot and will load ~ 1-3 minutes.
Well, personally I don't encourge you to do that, I'm just suggesting. It's your choice to do that or not. I just have given you all the instructions.
Hope I helped you
Hi,
I have problem unlocking bootloader on my C6603. I successfully rooted it with easyroot, made TA backup, my phone says that unlocking bootloader is allowed but whenever i tried to do this it either fails or goes to bootloop. I was investigating a bit more and found some information saying that phone has to be simlock free with some certificates(???) and s1tool gives me answer that my simlock unlock is tampered. Is it the reason why i can't unlock bootloader? If so, is there any way to unlock it anyway?
Thanks in advance.

Did you relock while on a custom rom or kernel? Try flashing a stock FTF.

How to package and flash stock roms in FTF format
I wrote that guide for the Xperia Z, but the method is identical for the Z2. You will probably have to wipe data if you're coming from a custom rom.

Unlocking bootloader and installing Custom recovery [Sprout4] [Marshmallow 6.0]

So i have successfully installed a custom recovery on my phone running Marshmallow and also unlocked the bootloader!
Its quite simple actually!
I am not responsible for any damage you make to your phone!
Steps-
1. Download the zip file from the link and extract it.
2. Install both the drivers and then proceed!(The drivers are universal and work for Windows 98,xp,vista,7,8,8.1,10 but in 8,8.1,10 you might need to turn off the digital signature verification-Make good use of google)
3.After installing the drivers , connect your phone in switched on and remember to turn on usb debugging in the dev options!
4. Open the unlock_bootloader_... and run the .bat file and follow the on screen steps( All the data will be formatted so make a backup beforehand)
5.After doing this you will void your warranty so make sure you know what you are doing!
6. Open the one click installer folder and replace the recovery.img with any recovery that you want.
7. Now again connect your phone in switched on mode and usb debugging on and run the .bat file of recovery installer.. and follow the on screen steps!
8.As soon as the the recovery installation is over do not let teh phone reboot just press the vol up button as the installation process stops and then go to recovery!
9.Boom!! Now you have a phone with unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery installed on marshmallow!!
10.Flash custom Kernels,Boot Animations, Logos and root your phone running marshmallow and brag!

Recovery Kernel?
Hi bro just a quick question did you use the MM kernel in the custom recovery?
On our None AOSP standard Mediatek devices the rom does a Kernel check to ensure both the boot and recovery Kernels are of the same version eg KK boot = KK Recovery LP boot = LP Recovery so I just wondered if the MM Kernel still works in the Philz recovery or are you still using a kernel from a older version of android eg KK or LP.
Hope that makes sense to you
How to open the unlock_bootloader ??? There is no such option
how about rooting? what method did you use?

Well i did not make anything that can do that but you'll probably find it in other threads. You can also flash bootloader.using the stock rom file via sp flash tools to relock it just untick everything else but bootloader!
Unlocking bootloader is necessary? Can I not just do it with it locked bootloader?

Yes it does, the tool is also all about it. In the one click recovery intaller folder replace the recovery.img with your twrp(you will have to rename twrp.img file to recovery.img) and follow the steps in the first post in this thread!

So sp flash tool will lock your phone to engineer mode if it turns off follow this instruction:
prepare sp flash tools to only flash recovery (the one you want to boot into)
then click the download button to start flash
then wait for phone to get to boot( when image appears, before it gets to reboot plugin your phone to pc)
sp flash tools will flash then when done make sure you reboot to the custom recovery
then if you can access your system from recovery , look next to build.rop for recovery or rebootfromrecovery.p
copy the file somewhere
edit in notepad to clear everything, save it then use the edited one to overwrite

I am going to try the mtk bypass tool, is that going to work? if not i am going to try your instructions, however it did not boot into the recovery even after reflashing , i have tried that before with the twrp app
It cannot detect the device, it isnt in device manager either, i am getting scared
edit: actually it gets detected in device manager as "usb serial device (com4)" when i hold the power button, volume up and volume down at the same time, when i do that, the device stays with a black screen
SP flash tool still does not detect it
it seems to be disconnecting while in this state
Please help, i cant turn the device off

You need to flash the SAME miui version present on the device first.

Certainly, mixing files from different miui versions, bricked your device.
You need to flash the correct miui version to fix the partition table.
And then, you can flash another miui version using fastboot.
