Went to a music festival over the weekend and used a portable charger to charge my phone, this is the last time I remember my phone fully charging. Once it died and I got back home, my phone would occasionally say USB connected and not charge until it said USB disconnected. Now it doesn't say that anymore but it charges ridiculously slow...
-Overnight charging I got 40%
-Left my phone for 3 hours and got 11%
-Use my phone while it's plugging into the charger and the battery still lowers rather than charging.
I've tried putting it in Ultra power saving mode and charging it while it's off but there is no big difference, I'm mad cause this cable is supposed to be charging it super fast.. Writing this post while my phone is plugged in I've already lost 2%
Nothing is wrong with my cord or the plug I am using, it's all the same stuff I have been using before. Could there be a problem with the port or something? Helppp
My phone is also in great condition always had a case, and just got it this past April
*also my phone is rooted so I don't think I can use the warranty

Are you sure? Cords die easily. Can you confirm how many amps the cord and the plug are allowing to be pulled? I've seen different phones pull different amps from different cords and plugs.
You can un-root and get back to a clean phone if you want to take it back.

If you have tried other cables and get the same result, you may have a problem. However I have seen cords got from .44a to over 1.2a from two different phones though.

check the power brick your using, if its the Samsung one that came with the phone it should be like 2 amps if I remember. id suggest using another power brick to test. also if you have a usb 3 super speed port on a pc or laptop sometimes you can use device manager in windows (start menu, right click computer, manage, in the window that opens click device manager, expand the universal serial bus controllers heading, check though any devices that say hub and go to their power tab) to see how many amps something is pulling from a pc usb. the other option is that you might have a defective battery but I don't know for sure. these are just some ideas that may or may not work for you.

Sounds like the portable charger might have been able to adjust amperage or voltage. If that's the case the portable charger could have damaged your battery if it was wrong amp and too high of amps. I have a portable charger that even changes voltage that could ruin a device too if not on 5 volts.

It sounds like it could be a battery problem. More likely, it could be a problem with the software. I would back everything up and flash another ROM or bring it back to full stock.
Option 1:
Install this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.bmw
It will tell you batter voltage and charging current.
Options 2:
Charge with phone powered off.
Thank you everyone for the replies, my phones been getting worse to the point where it sometimes wont charge.
I think what im going to do is flash back to stock and bring it in to samsung or something , but also i heard a rumor that towelroot doesnt void the knox warranty? if this is true i may just bring it in as is...only becuase when i connect my phone my laptop wont read it anymore either, i havent tried if odin will but im assuming it would, i just dont want my phone to end up bricking because of the bad connection
This sounds like an old problem with Samsung phones, including the Galaxy S series. My original Galaxy S did this, my S3 did this, my sister's S3 did this. On those phones it was the charging port that caused the problem. My sister had her port replaced and her phone is working fine again.
Although I don't know for sure if that's your problem, that would be my first guess.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it has to do with the charging port, my battery is fine and so are my cables, and it randomly keeps saying USB connected/disconnected and won't change when it's "connected"

Hi,
First off, I have a non rooted, stock Galaxy note. It's not modded in any way.
The problem started occurring yesterday, all was just fine before. Since then, it won't charge no matter what USB cable or charger I use.
1) Phone on
- I plug the charger to the phone : nothing. The phone doesn't register being connected to the OEM wall-charger.
- I connect the phone using the OEM USB cable to my computer (tryed 3 different computers) : Nothing.
I also tried another charger and several USB cables : no luck.
2) Phone off
- I plug the charger / I connect my phone to a computer using USB cable : the phone boot up and doesn't charge the battery.
Any thought ?
Thx in advance.
Try using some compressed air to clean out the usb port on the Galaxy Note. I had a similar issue with an iPhone once and there ended up being a piece of lint stuck on 1 of the contacts which made it unable to charge. Could be the case with your phone. Other than that contact Samsung and see what they can do for you.
Thx for the advice.
I'll try that out and call over Samsung.
Try factory reset if that could help..

Update:
I tried a micro USB Host Cable (OTG Cable) and it's working fine : recognized and plugged in USB stick is working fine.
Also, I tried a factory reset after backuping my data. All went fine but sadly the problem is still there : no charging.
More update:
After two days, It started working again as if it never happened.
Still wondering what might have caused it
Might be the dust that settled on the battery pins and the contacts on your phone.. happens some times .. glad its back to work.. poor thing..

Happened to me too! It wouldn't charge until I turned off the phone. It worked after I cleaned the phone and usb cable's metal parts--sorry no correct jargon for this--with rubbing alcohol. Make sure there's no lint left from the cleaning.
Yup, had this. On charge with stock charger in the mains. Battery dropping fast, back (top) getting warm. I turned the screen off, left it for 5 mins. Looked again, it was 2% less!
Reboot fixed it.
There did not seem to be any rogue program using the CPU, but I now have a meter and a better logger to examine this if it occurs again. I assume the system got into a loop somewhere, although the phone was normally responsive.

Happening to my phone as well right now. I was worried that the battery is dying so I got a spare online. But it doesn't make sense that its charging and know that it is on one state and not the other.
I panicked so I replaced Rocket Rom with Cassie's. It's still doing this.
Have you guys checked if there is a weird smell from your battery? I thought that was something to look at but dont all batteries smell like that?
galaxy note is experiencing the same hardware problems as galaxy s2 phones. I am very pissed off at samsung. I bought a new galaxy note in dominican republic and after one month of delicate use the phone developed charging problems. Drive mode would start automatically or the phone would shut off all by itself and a battery removal reset would turn the phone on again. then finally, the phone would stay in charging mode even after the usb charge cable is removed. the phone would discharge quickly and then would not turn on. I finally gave the phone to repair dept at claro phone company. they would not fix it and are just showing me a middle finger. Now I guess, I would have to learn to change the charging port myself. After seeing galaxy s2 videos, I see many ribbon contacts would get corroded and need to be cleaned frequently. Many phones were just less than 2 months old and had so much corrosion on the contacts. this is bad design and I think the high current draw for a dual core phone of that huge screen size is causing all kinds of electrical corrosion on the contacts inside the phone. this sucks majorly as I loved the phone when I had it working fine. Now I think I have bought a problem with my saved cash. I will try to repair my own phone soon as I get it back from the repair dept.
My Galaxy Note is doing a similar thing. Not all the same symptoms, but a few similarities.
The other night, when the charger was plugged in the phone kept changing it's mind whether it was plugged in or not - probably every few seconds I was getting the chime it makes when you plug the phone in. I eventually managed to charge the phone by turning it off, removing the battery, replacing it, plugging the charger in, waiting for it to start charging, then turning it on.
Today my phone was trying to tell me it was charging when it wasn't even plugged in to anything!
As with the above post, my phone has been getting hot occasionally and the drive mode has started by itself a few times.
I've used three chargers and four cables.
I'll be taking it along to where I bought it from later on today.
Battery not charging
G Note Battery is not charging .. same problem as of 1st post.
Changed usb cables, chargers, thru PC, laptop, direct wall, cleaning etc
Every thing fails. one month old set ?
OMG, glad to know I'm not the only one. Bought a Galaxy Note from a brazilian network provider (VIVO) and after 1 week of usage I'm experiencing the same problems as you guys.
My phone will only charge when it is powered off and USB connection does not work anymore (even in download mode). Before the problem onset, I noticed some MTP connection and SD Card rescanning without connecting to the PC.
Did a factory reset and got no results. Downloaded Odin Mobile and flashed stock rom and the problem persists.
Has anyone found a fix or the cause for this?
Thanks!
Missing my old Galaxy S...
Strange! After a full night charge, now I can unplug and plug the battery and continue charging from where I stop without turning it off.
I can now get beeps when connecting to PC. It show MTP-Inicialization in the Note screen but I have no access to to Note partitions in Windoes Explorer.
Update: One more strange thing just happened now.
Went to college and left it charging. When I came back at night, tried to connect the Note to the PC and everything is working ok now.
What?!?! Now I'm confused. How can I send it to warranty now? I think I'll have to wait a couple more days.
issue as well
That is my 3rd galaxy note, first one screen cracked, second dont ask me why it was not modified at all but it was so sluggish and froxze all the time, my 3rd one it is rooted device and i have similar issue...I am thinking is it because i was charging it from my wife's htc one phone? I thought they would have the same pins...anyway it is doomed, i tried so many chargers and problem not solved
ok i can comfirm to everyone that i have fixed the problem by buying contact cleaner spray and sprayed inside the usb and beautiful all back to normal!
Nooo..
Have a charging problem as well :/ It detects the charging cable and shows the battery icon with the circle about to charge. But it just turns off before it starts charging, turns on shows the icon again, turns off, turns on, shows the battery icon and so on. I have tried with two different chargers. For me i looks like the voltage is too low? Maybe the battery needs a jumpstart? I'll just leave it in the charger and see what happens. Suggestions welcome
Edit: It's just two weeks old, damn it. Last night I used it untill the battery was empty. That is why I think the voltage is so low it doesnt accept charge.
Edit2: Fixed! Puh! I was right. Battery needed a higher mah to start the charging. Leaving the post as it is for future reference.
same problem here, however it charges from my laptop... how strange?
Hey guys,
I have the ZNEX Powerpack:

Unfortunately its not possible for me to charge my s3 mini with this external battery.
The cable and the battery is okay, tested that with other devices.
Anyone can solve this problem or has it too?
Thanks

also when the device is off and i turn on the external battery the device turns on and gets into a load mode or something (it doesnt even load at this Point, seems so that it just init the "turned off charging" dont know how i should call that )
same Thing when i restart the phone with external battery plugged on, there just happens nothing, normal boot process without any hint of charging^^

What do you mean with "the one that cane with the battery power"?
Ive tried a lot of different usb cables they work all with the original charging-adapter but None with the external battery
tried it with the Amazon Basics usb cable, original Samsung data cable and the cable from the old Motorola xt 720 ^^
But thank you for the answer
strange.. when device is off can it charge or it doesnt charge at all with the samsung data cable. If it does charge while off, when its charging turn on the phone and it should charge as well.

Same problem here. No matter what external battery pack, this S3 mini is not detecting the battery pack as a charger. All of these packs work just fine with any other phone: tried with 2 SII, i8910, different Nokia phones, Blackberrry's etc.
I suspect that somewhere in the kernel there's no "3rd" unknown source or it has odd values, or it's somewhere else, but definitely soft problem as phone usb port works fine and recharges just fine from PC or laptop with any and every usb cable. Same goes for wall chargers. I haven't tried with car chargers just yet, but might do so. Just the phone is not mine, it's my wife's phone so I can't just take it with me.
Any suggestions?
Just a quicky: Is your phone trying or connecting to a PC in MTP mode?
XXAMA2 rom here and it always has only MTP or Picture mode, maybe this triggers something if on external power pack?
Edit: BTW, even when phone is turned off it won't charge the battery from the 3rd party external battery packs... weird.
Edit2: It started to charge out of 2.1A port on external pack after 5 minutes... then continued to charge once the phone is turned on. Later I unplugged it and plugged in again and it won't charge if the phone is on. Oh well, at least it can charge if first turned off. At least that when on the road and without wall plug...
Even more strange is what I'm getting now when plugging to Duracel external pack - phone starts the music player on it's own and starts to play... I think it's defo something related to MTP or such...
Strange. My power bank works just fine. The charging indicator shows when I plug my S3Mini with my power bank. (Cheap chinese brand. 5200mAh, 1.0 A)
Usually when the USB indicator showed up when you plug your external power source, the cable is the one with 4 lines (two for transferring data, and the other two for receiving electricity needed for charging, or +/- ).
Try using the USB cable with two lines only (electricity lines only, without data transferring lines)

Well, after trying all USb cables I have in my house I found one that is CHARGING IT!!! I dunno what wires it has or not and I don't care ATM. Point is there's nothing (EDIT) wrong with battery packs nor the phone. It all still indicates damn MTP kicking in where it shouldn't IMO. Dang Samsung for screwing it all up yet another time.
Still, I'm happy it CAN work all right, so no more depleted battery when on the road / trip
Thanks for a great suggestion there!

I'm running maclaw's CyanogenMod 11.0 20140610, there is any LOG to see what happens? where can i access it?
So, for the past couple of days I've run my battery pretty much dry, when I got to a charger it was at about 6-12% both times. What I've noticed is that my phone doesn't seem to charge from anything except the charger it came with (in the dock... now that I think of it, I should probably have tested that as well, so it isn't just shutting down USB when low on battery) when it is in this low-battery state, nor does it appear in ADB. I tried shutting the phone off and charging like that, but it didn't work. As I am typing this, the phone (currently at a much higher charge) is successfully charging from exactly the same machine and same USB cable that it wouldn't work with last night while at 6%... what gives?
Has anyone else experienced this?
For the record I am running CyanogenMod nightlies (2013-06-10), however I am finding it difficult to believe that software would have an impact on this.

I guess I will have to restore Sony software on it and try at some point. It certainly doesn't seem like there is a good reason for this behaviour to be hardware related, I mean what if I didn't have the dock? (Again, need to test if the original charger will charge via USB in low battery state)

Not as bad as you seem to think
Ok, I think I've nailed this down. My Xperia Z dropped to 18% at some point during the weekend. And all I had to charge it with was an iPhone charger (providing up to 1.1A so that's still not too bad) and a USB cable without a data pair. This didn't start charging. However, luckily my friend had an LG charger with a USB cable containing data pairs. This did start charging! (And his phone charged using my iPhone charger with data-less USB cable) Unfortunately I am an idiot and didn't think to try his cable with the iPhone charger, but at least this is a start! (I'm starting to believe it is the iPhone chargers somehow, which is strange because electricity is electricity, and chargers don't discriminate)
I use my old N900 charger
Sorry to hear you have problems with the charger, I use my N900 charger to charge anything (that charges by micro USB - Including my Xperia Z) around the house with no problems. I can't charge the phone in a MAC or PC USB port if the device is not detected (even if the port has power), but I found out that lots of devices behave like this (I guess its a good way of forcing users to buy a "quick" charger).

Ok. It's effectively a start of and answer. It make me believe that the phone communicate somehow someway with the charger. But that sounds unrealistic.
You wake up my curiosity. Will try to look at this. But it will take some time.

That's odd, a micro USB cable doesn't change by the manufacturer, except if they change de voltage, i use the Sony cable and a GS3 usb cable at work, no any problem.
Anyway just in case i always prefer to use the manufacturer cable to avoid damage my phone.

We don't think it is the cable (unless it is a cable which only has the power pair and no data pair, that could be a problem), but rather the charger, that is causing problems.
Hello,
I seem to have lost the ability to turbo charge on my N6. When I use the turbo charger, the phone charges normally, but does not "turbo" charge. I've also lost the ability to connect to a PC. No machine will recognize my device, so I'm also wondering how to update to 5.1 once released without a PC.
Not sure if these issues are related. Maybe a hardware issue? I'm on a stock, rooted device (with forced encryption off) with TWRP recovery. The problems seem to have started after I manually updated to 5.0.1 using this method:
http://nexus5.wonderhowto.com/how-t...ncryption-when-updating-your-nexus-6-0159062/
Please let me know if anyone can help.
Thanks
there's no real "turbo" mode in the n6, if its charging normally, then its right. how long would you say it takes the device to charge? and about connecting to the pc, is your nexus driver installed? sounds like it had an error somewhere. try installing it again, or manually. if the n6 driver isnt installed, your pc will never see the n6.
I noticed, I used a longer cord plugged into the Turbo charger, it would take about 5-6 hours to charge (I forget the %). Then I switched the cord back to the one that came with it, and the time was cut in half, 2-3 hours. Make sure you are using the correct cord.

It takes about 5-6 hours to charge from 0%. And yes, I have tried deleting the drivers and reinstalling them automatically and manually. It's not a driver problem as I've tried multiple computers (both PC and MAC). I've used multiple USB ports and cables. I've tried literally everything.

Thanks. I'm using the correct charger and cable. In fact, I thought I had a defective charger so I had Motorola send me a brand new one. Still not working correctly. In fact, when I enable USB debugging and MTP connection, it won't charge at all using the turbo charger. I have to disable USB debugging and MTP to get it to work. Very strange. That's why I think something went wrong with my installation of 5.0.1 or one of my modifications (enabling landscape mode on home screen, enabling screen mirroring, enabling tethering, franco kernel, root, decryption, etc.). I'm really hoping it's not hardware.
If it takes that long to charge on a wallplug you're hardware is probably defective. It generally takes me 3 hours to charge from 0 to 100 with a 5v 1amp wall charger. A little less with a 5v 2amp port. About 2 hours in fact.
5 to 6 hour charge rates only make sense if you're charging off the a powered USB port from a computer.

Hello,
I seem to have lost the ability to turbo charge on my N6.

Please let me know if anyone can help.
Thanks

Either it's charger's issue or it's charging IC's issue. If you can find another turbo charger, try charging with that. If the same issue repeat, then ask for a replacement

Good luck getting a replacement charger. I have been trying to get a replacement charger for two weeks. Moto customer service is terrible.

Hey all, I find my nexus with the turbo charger goes from empty to full in about an hour and ten maybe twenty. Today I plugged it in at 13% at noon and by one it was at 94% so some of the charge times I'm seeing here seem way long compared to what I've been getting on my device. Is there different turbo charge blocks out there!?

Must be my Canadian electricity.
If by any chance you have access to the Note 4's charging block, try that one. It works extremely well with every turbo charge device I've used.
Anyone else having issues with their fast charger? Occasionally when plugged in it won't charge at all, despite recognizing bring plugged into a charger. If I wiggle the connection around I see it'll go from slow to fast charger connected. The phone had never been dropped and the connection hasn't been bent.

My first device after about a month, lost the ability to fast charge altogether, and in my case, went to slow charging no matter what charger or cord I used. The only one that worked was the wireless, which would cause the phone to heat up beyond safe. In my case, it was the phone. However, mine had a lot more symptoms (would NEVER get to fast charging, not recognized by the PC at all, etc). Recommendations were to try a different outlet, no clue on that one... make sure the USB cord is fully seated in the wall piece, soft reset, and worst case, a hard reset to test.

Yea it's on and off with my cell but hasn't been slow charging lately but if keeps up might have to do a warranty switch... I hope not though cause I already skinned it with some skins and I don't feel like losing it I doubt it'll stick to another cell haha
