[Q]Thinking of getting a motox GSM Unlocked for Tmobile but have newbie questions

I going thinking of jumping on that 100 coupon for motox but i had some questions.
1.I see a ton of roms for the nexus 5 but What Roms are actually being work on for the T mobile Moto X , i been looking around but i keep seeing them for different carriers only
2. Is there a way to get wifi tethering?
3 is it hard to unlock the bootloader?
4. lol Any regrets so far getting the motox instead of the nexus 5 ?
5 Has rom development increased recently with the price getting lower?
6. [non motox question] but is there something that exist to disable power button when a pin password is active . My last phone got stolen and i really wish there was some way to disable the power button so who ever takes it has no way to power it down and would been nice if i could of track it.
I love the features on the motox that the nexus doesnt have so thats why im lending towards it . but just alittle worried on how little rom development there is for future sake

1. The X lacks ROMs due to the fact it's basically stock and there isn't really a need for any.
2. Tethering should be available on the spot with no root needed. Then again it could be a problem depending on your data plan.
3. Unlocking the bootloader for the T Mobile version is as simple as getting the unlock code from the device, inputting on their website, request the unlock code and input it. Viola it's unlocked. It voids warranty completely so be weary.
4. I have no regrets of buying the X over the N5 even though the N5 was my first choice. Basically wanted it because of its update span and the specs it had would last me lengthy. But the Moto X changed my mind about that surely enough.
5. The development of ROMs hasn't increased by a significant amount. But with all the price drops we all expect it to soon enough.
6. Not so sure about an app or system setting to disable power off so you can track it. But Moto Assist would be perfect coming close to something of that sort.

a few moto X questions

i have a DNA that just went through the wash cycle (accident and not my doing... lol)
while it mostly functions (earpiece, mic and led not) i was going to keep it around as a mp3 player camera of sorts
at the price range of new devices and the development bases i was leaning more towards the X (vzw dev edition)
i was wondering spec wise how this device feels still and if it would be a viable purchase still
google wallet working for this device?
any overall cons you guys feel about it?
safestrap based roms flashed without issue?
i plan on contributing to the dev community for this device and i felt this was the way to go, if anyone could shine some light on this for me would be greatly appreciated , thanks!

Previous Previous device razr hd series was sparse on dev edition roms and were always in different sections, I meant more the roms themselves then recovery with there being a divide

1. Just bought mine (vzw DE) in febuary, Lateral move from a Droid Maxx (same specs, asside from battery / screen size) Wanted the Maxx DE, but it was out of stock, best thing ever. the phone feels much better in day to day use than that maxx beast of a phone. Wife bought one (motomaker) last month. Would buy again (or might be convinced to wait out the summer as the sucessor has been announced to be coming at end of summer)
2. yes, i have also been using verizons ISIS payment system, the cash back is nice.
3. my only con is that while listening to Audible books, if i get a sms the book will not resume until the active notification is acknowledged
4. roms are for phones that come with bad stock software, you will only need xposed framework and other apps you may want to use with root. no roms needed.
While there are some roms, the Dev Ed hardware is no different than the consumer hardware(only difference is you can keep your warranty when you unlock your boot loader, while consumer ed devices will void their warranty with a boot loader unlock), and roms should work on both interchangeably

thanks, this solidified my choice of the X as my phone as i would have waied for the x2 had my dna not been damaged at the very least the x will be a great backup device down the road
now did you need anything special to get isis to work? does GW work as well? or can you use isis at GW pay stations?

Other then the above mentioned gw question, how much storage is available on 16gb model

Recommend moto x still?

I have 2 Nexus 5's and I sold one and have $ to buy another phone I'm looking @ the Moto x and it looks cool (bamboo wood edition)
I'm wondering what model number should I purchase for T-Mobile and for their LTE and HSPA+ also does the Moto X support all T-Mobile bands?
Secondly who provides the updates to the Moto X, I see so many versions such as America Movil or whatever.. all confusing me does the updates go through the carrier or straight to device like a Nexus?
Third hows the battery life on this thing, I'm talking about screen on time and real world usage!

i just picked up a 32gb developers edition for $250 2 hours ago. I love it. I still have the white nexus 5. I never felt a connection with the nexus 5, its just like a flat brick, this feels much more like the nexus 4, and s. Solid in your hands and ****. I recommend it, but as for the roming portion, I dont know yet, thats what im worried about because the development looks weak as hell in here.

I don't think there is a lot of development for the Moto X because you pretty much already have a stock Android experience with a couple of added benefits that aren't just gimmicks. No bloatware either. Only reason most people root this phone is to install Unicon and Xposed in order to change icons and make visual tweaks without the need for third party launchers or roms.

Once Motorola stops giving updates, development will increase.
Necessity is the mother of inventions. There is no need for roms at the moment as it is an awesome phone out of the box.

All of above applies only if you have non-AT&T Moto X. If you buy an AT&T Moto X, you will be laughed at. Don't fall for a phone with locked bootloader, never. HTC's fortune started to fall when they put out phones that were unfriendly to developers and hackers. Samsung has started down the slippery slope as well and they will begin to suffer as a consquence. Moto X was a great phone but their myopic decision to cripple the phone with unlockable bootloader for the largest US carrier (ATT) consigned it to the dust bin, it seems.

I'd suggest buying a GSM Developer Edition so you keep your warranty intact after unlocking. This phone with Xposed Gravity Box installed has ended my 4 Year obsession to flash roms entirely. Gravity Box can do almost anything a Rom can do, I even went back to stock on my Nexus 7 with this module and couldn't be happier. Not thinking about the latest Rom or waiting for a new build to try and then have to wipe and setup my phone/tablet again is a blessing.

This is the first phone I've had that I've ever run stock. I'm thinking of unlocking it, just to install xposed, but that's really it.
Even my three Google Experience devices (Nexus One, Nexus S, and Xoom) were all rooted within a day or two of owning them. This phone is just really nice as-is.

ill echo what everybody else said. The Moto X is the first Android phone that i have zero desire to install a different ROM. with just root and Xposed, the phone gives me everything i need without forcing me to give up the great features like Touchless Control, Active Display etc...

Samsung has a wider range of customers now that android has developed. It is the iPhones competition and people who are tired of iPhones and iOS look at that competition with on sheet greater specs, camera and a wide array of commercials going against the iPhone people are leaning towards the gs5 vs any other android device. The gs5 has outsold the iPhone 5s in the first weekend of its release. I'm not a Samsung fanboy nor apple fanboy, I've used both ecosystems before I loved iOS but now that android has developed I wouldn't think about going back to iOS unless there's specs and other enticing options to draw me back. I have a macbook air, but I have the moto x and let me get on topic with this one. The moto x is a really great device but I think the op should wait for the successor of the moto x or wait for the "last" nexus device. There's more great devices coming out later on this year and I think he should hold off.
MOTO X SLAPPED

locked VZ S4 -> Dev Moto X, Is this a good idea?

I have 1 year left on my contract and on my S4, but I use none of the special S4 features and am tired of a locked down phone. I am thinking of moving over to a moto X, and was just hoping for any and all feedback.

I am waiting for the Sept 4th announcement to do anything, But I expect the X + 1 dev edition to cost too much (anything much over $500 and I will be seriously thinking, over $600 and I am out for sure.)
I am hoping to have the new phone I get cost roughly similar to a new phone on contract after I subtract the money made by selling my nearly mint S4 (hoping $250-$300?)
About me:
I don't play games, I just need web browsing, FB, music player, view the occasional document, ect..
I am not an obsessive flasher. I want root/custom recovery to give me the option of managing my own updates. Mostly having a recent OS and the option to flash minor modifications such as offered by xposed framework or stock based roms is my biggest concern.
I use none of my touchwiz fanciness, automated things that go off automatically tend to annoy me (not sure about that voice control in this regard though it sounds cool),
Why Moto x?
Active display, Moto's payment plan, unlocked BL, as well as the "grown up" focus on solid performance and ergonomics is what appeal to me. My S4's specs already seem to be more then I need, and if the Moto X can be as snappy or more then my S4 while giving me an up to date phone for the next year and a half I will be content. (Should be out of school and making decent money by then?)

I feel like the S4 has more flash then I can appreciate, while being slightly uncomfortable, having annoyingly poor build quality and a fairly bleak future for the modding community... And that at least for now I could move to a moto X for the cost of a new contract phone, but with out contract and with an unlocked bootloader to boot.
Not sure on this one though, and a little worried about being happy still with a Moto X a year from now... So trying to get a wide variety of opinions on this.

What carrier? If Vzw go for a Maxx it is already a x + 1/2! Lol.

It is VZ, but I thought the Maxx was no longer available as a dev edition?
If I didn't make it clear enough, the majority of the reason I am getting rid of the S4 is jumping through hoops with updates, and wanting a device that is guaranteed unlocked on Verizon.

Really. I did not know that.

I just got Dev edition, moto web sight $324. I also have S 4, I bought the x for better reception, so far been really good.

yeah it looks like I just missed the $324 but I am going to call up and talk with customer service to see what they can do. Just waiting to hear back about the moto playment plan.
Can you talk more about the differences in your experience with each device? Just kind of general which one you like more and how the moto has been... I like what I hear about reception, seems like mine is never quite good enough.

I pretty much use the phone like you, I like my S 4 mdk for battery life and tweeks with custom kernel, but Samsung radio's have poor reception. I've owned Motorola phones in the past reception has always been good with moto. This is why I purchased.

I feel the X screen is too dim/variable compared to the Maxx. Root is not necessary on the Maxx, to me, anyway.

Signal is great on any Moto.

I love my VZW X DE. Had a non-DE maxx, sold it cause i lost root after taking 4.4
Performance and battery life are awesome. Im sure this device will please me for at least the next year, or until i have enough spare cash to justify an upgrade

One thing to note, is that if the O.P. browses through the development forums for the Moto X, there are not very many ROM's. If you love to flash something new every few days, then you might be disappointed.
However, the reason that there aren't very many ROM's is because the stock experience is so good - for the things you listed - active display, Moto Assist, etc. that don't work in AOSP based Rom's. A stock, debloated ROM with xposed is really all that is needed to have a fantastic device!
I wouldn't be surprised if the Moto X dev editions get cheap again after the Sept 4th press conference, or at the very least, I expect Swappa/Ebay to have several after that date Maybe even mine

I just switched from an S4 to a Moto X developer and I am very pleased. I took advantage of the $324 sale they had on the Moto X developer edition.

[Q] Should I switch from Verizon Galaxy S4 to Verizon Moto X (2014)?

I've had a rooted S4 since it came out last May, so over a year and a half, which I love, besides a few problems, and I was looking at the Moto X. I have read a bunch and I see that there is no root for the Verizon version. Has anyone made the switch from a rooted device that they loved to the unrooted Moto X? Curious if it is worth it or not as there are some Xposed modules I use quite a bit.

I came from the S3 on Verizon, which I had unlocked and rooted the whole time I owned it. Prior to that I had the OG EVO on Sprint, which was unlocked and rooted as well. I had a blast on the EVO and gained a lot of value from unlock/root then plus it was just exciting and enjoyable tinkering with it. The S3 experience was good in that I had AOSP ROMs, but I basically kept ending back on CM. While CM provided the latest version of Android, I was so tired of the problems that never seemed to go away-- SMS/MMS, bluetooth, GPS and more. It was to the point I would be reluctant to flash any update knowing a new problem would surface. I eventually just moved to a TouchWiz ROM and left it to avoid the problems. TWRP was buggy too, so I had to bounce around recoveries as well. That obviously is a part of using a rooted phone and messing with it, but I guess I got a little burned out with that. If you have free time and enjoy that whole process of testing things and tinkering, you would probably miss root/Xposed. For me, I wanted stock Android that worked. I think Moto's customizations are very smart and useful like a custom ROM. I miss cf.Lumen, which required root, but otherwise I like this phone and like having the latest Android. The Nexus 6 was too big for me. If you can handle that size (and price until there is a on-contract option), that could be an option. I also really enjoyed building a custom Moto with a leather back. You could write down everything you use root/Xposed for and see what alternatives exist in an unrooted world and go from there. If there are no deal breakers, I think it is a great phone with great software.

I appreciate you taking your time to write that up. I am almost 100% on buying it, but I just noticed the Droid Turbo. My real main reasons for not getting it already is the Non removable small battery and the camera. I have heard both sides of the fences with some saying they are fine, and some saying they are horrible. The Droid Turbo seems to have better camera and battery, but then again, I have heard both sides of the fences again, with people saying it isn't that much better, if even better at all. But the Moto X is so sexy compared to the Droid Turbo. The Non removable battery just really annoys me though. I go to a lot of conventions, and I like with the G4 having a spare battery to switch and instantly be at 100%.
I just can't wait until they come out with the PERFECT phone.......if that ever happens.....

Every time I'm at phone decision time I feel the same way. This one is too big. This one has an older chip... different resolution... AMOLED.... LCD... SD card on and on. I passed on the Turbo because I didn't like the back and old navigation bar icons. Spec-wise it is solid. This Moto X is my first non-removable battery and non-SD card phone. I got past the battery thing because I'm a working stiff. Most weeks I'm at the office then home. On weekends I use the turbo charger at home to give me the boost for the evening and I always have a couple of external battery packs for insurance and convenience. It is surprising how nice an external battery pack is even if you are just outside or somewhere away from a charger. Don't have to power down and get to keep on going. When I travel for work, I've noticed there are built in breaks where I can let my phone charge on a pack, e.g. airport security, checking out of hotels, catching rides, meeting suppliers at places, so I haven't found the battery to be an issue. We'll see how I feel about the SD card thing a year from now or so. I got the 32GB for $50 in hopes of at least making it manageable. The Moto X is a good looking phone though that is for sure.

I had the original Moto X (with unlocked bootloader), loved it. Then I got a new job that have me the S4 (which I rooted). Didn't really like it but still have it. Two weeks ago I had the opportunity to upgrade to the 2nd Gen Moto X, so now I'm carrying with me the S4 and new X (just to give some reference).
I liked the size of the old X, and wish I could have retained that. But I didn't want to get left behind by not upgrading. I do miss root, mainly for a few xposed modules like gravitybox, Moto tether, and exchange bypass. But since I have my work phone I can tether in a pinch (not frequently needed at all).
There are sacrifices to all changes. For me, owning the non-rootable 2nd Gen X was worth the tradeoffs. I think you would be happy with the transition if you don't mind sacrificing root (I'm hopeful a method will be released!). I like the feel of it more than the S4 (physical handling, plus the coolness factor of designing it), the speed (S4 just feels more bulky and stutters quite a bit more), and the Moto features. I've found the radios (esp wifi) better on the X. I have the 32GB and haven't run into a problem yet. Though I can't fairly compare batteries since I use the two for very different purposes throughout my day.

Did it say the box where its made/shipped from? I remember them making the first one in Texas.
