So I have been a little out of touch with Xda for a while now. I'm still on mi9 and have the one click exe to restore if necessary. I have safe strap installed with stock mi9, knoxraid, and X note in my slots.
What's the safest way to upgrade right now? I'd like to be in a similar situation with an Odin to restore to or at least a one click or something after upgrading. Thanks in advance.

You can downgrade back to mi9 anytime using kies and enjoy kk experience without locking yourself to a non-downgradeable bootloader.

Hey Guys, I was out of the country for the past month. I got back yesterday only to find my phone got the OTA update and i didn't want that as i was planning to root it. My question is can i still root it or is there a way to roll back my phone? Any help is appreciated guys. Much thanks!
I believe you can still use kingoroot. Be warned this method delivers some info about your phone to their servers. But to the best of my knowledge this is currently our only option.

Thanks. I would rather not use this option if I can help it. Any other options?
Do not use the Root De la Vega method on your MJ5 or you will create an unrecoverable brick. kraz

It would not turn it into an international version for sure. I'm about 90% sure it would brick. If you decide to do it anyway, I'm not knowledgeable on brick recovery, search the forums for that.

They technically aren't the same device. The 9005 has different processor.
which n3s are the same as at&t ?

It's hard to find a page that compares all the note 3 variants. At least for me it is! This is a good comparison page.

The N900A has a locked bootloader and cannot be flashed period. There is currently no way to flash it. There is safestrap that lets you use an alternate ROM but the kernel will still be the same. There is no way to flash the N900A right now. If you do try to flash it, you will brick it for good.
I was going to flash via the tar file via odin not safe strap but we'll see how it goes tomorrow

Ok, got a note 3 with 4.3 again.
No lies, not fraud, no nothing except a faulty power port and honesty and I ended up with a 4.3 note 3 again
Pant, pant..WHAT DO I DO, I know Kingo root. Titanium backup first. The opporturnity to use my microsd card again! I am actually excited!
And after Kingo, how do I not AT&T upgrade?
I am hearing it forces you after a little while, what do I do? I really want to keep my root!
I am so sorry to my Note Brethren with KK without any way to use THEIR phones. My sympathies are sincere!
Any advice appreciated!

Ok, so if I am at 4.3, and want to keep my root, is there a path to kk that still has root? I would prefer the non ss route. BTW, the main thing that makes me root is I want to use my Microsd card and when unrooted backup and other apps seem unable to access it properly.

SS is the only way to go. There are no downsides to using SS to use a custom ROM.
Sent from my SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Seems like kk isn't worth the effort, you can't access the Microsd, the wifi Hotspot is locked off unless you pay at&t and all issues have been fixed in 4.3, anything gained?

Read in xda it's slow because it's using flash memory.

Not at all slow.
Your stock ROM runs on the same thing your storage does. The EMMC.

Plus, with SS and KK, you have to flash to the stock slot.

Got back root on 4.3, Sweet Archemedes this feels good, like my phone again!
Stock slot, would that be the one that is the original ROM?
Dynamic Kat looks intreguing. But it says I have to have KK first. Can I get DK working from JB rooted?
Indeed it is.
Use this guide. (replace the Urdroid KK ROM that he says to download with DynamicKat)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712039
Then head over to our development section and find the SS thread.
You will need both 3.71 and 3.72
3.71 will get you to KK with the guide. Once there, you will need to reinstall it and use it to uninstall the recovery.
Then uninstall the app.
After that, install 3.72 and use it to install your new recovery. That way you don't have to use odin every time you want to flash a mod or new kk rom

So I'm on stock 4.3. Mj5. I have rooted and I'm confused on getting to custom firmware. I've played with SS 3.71. But I tried to install custom Ron but was unsuccessful. Can someone tell me or link me to a thread. Please. I just came from a galaxy s3 to the n900a. I'd like to start with cm11.

1. Don't hijack threads
2. Only TW based ROMs can be flashed.
3. Go read the SS development thread.
You need to make sure you are on 3.71 when trying to flash a 4.3 ROM and 3.72 to use KK.

Now that we have root for 4.4, I'm planning to upgrade from 4.3 to 4.4, but I haven't come across any simple method to do it. Mazdamiata has a method to do it, but it requires downgrading to MJ5, which would be a huge inconvenience. My update fails at 27% even with all the original apps restored and unfrozen. I have Xposed installed and my device is rooted with Kingo. Any suggestions?
I'm with you! I sat down and wanted to upgrade to kit Kat but following those directions were not easy for me. I am now stuck on 4.3 until there is an easier way to get there. What stinks is there isn't even a YouTube video to show how to go back to mj5 and the upgrade
Isn't there any other solution to safely upgrade without reverting to MJ5?
here you go

Thanks, but it's not a simple method and has steps to install other components which increase the complexity.
Is the best way just to factory reset my device, retain the root and then try to upgrade?
Factory reset then upgrade to kit kat then root with towelroot

Kingo renamed some files and installed a few

thats exactly what im currently trying. i went into tibu, did a batch unfreeze, then used kingo to unroot. restarted and am now downloading the update. hopefully it will get me up to kitkat and let me root again with towelroot.
Let us know if it works then all I have to do is unfreeze the updater apo and unroot with kingo

nope didn't work... it would download, then when it tries to install the update, it stops at about 24%, reboots and gives an error saying update interrupted.
I tried manually doing it also by putting the update file on SD card and applying in recovery mode... it starts, errors, and wiped my data....
the only way seems to be the harder way heh

I need to return my phone to out of the box fresh. I've been reading and searching and I'm finding info about Odin and MJ5, but I'm not sure which I need to do. The only thing I've done to my phone is root it (then unroot it) with Kingo. I unrooted it, so I could apply the stock 4.4.2 upgrade, but it fails. So now I want to return it to its original state so I can try the upgrade again. I want to keep it close to stock, because I need to use phone encryption so I can use it for work as well. I really need someone to point me in the right direction.

This my sound like a dumb question, but I am going to as any way. I bought a used note 3 and the previous owner had rooted it and installed saftystrap and installed a rom to the stock slot but made no back up. I searched but could not find stock 4.2.2 firmware. Any one know where I could find it. My phone is working great but would still like the option of having the stock files just incase. thanks in advance for the help.
