I'm trying to play content from my Synology NAS over wireless to my CC which has the latest Eureka ROM and Google Services. I'm trying to play them from Solid Explorer using the Chromecast plugin and when I play it I had before when it worked, the sound is all garbled and there's no picture.
I've got the latest Chromecast app and GPServices and when i try to use the Chromecast app to mirror my device, the screen goes black and the app crashes.
Any ideas?

Exactly what build of Eureka ROM are you running? "Latest" is relative as it could change tomorrow.
You can get the build number from the Eureka Web Panel at http://ip_address_of_chromecast

Okay, you're running the same version of Eureka-ROM as I am, and my Chromecast screen casting works okay. So I'm guessing it's probably something else.
Maybe your NAS is having bandwidth issues? The garbled playback you described can be symptom of either inconsistent or insufficient throughput. Is your NAS wireless or on a wired connection?
It's running on a wired gigabit connection.
I just did some further testing after a factory reset, and it's only with most videos, some play ok

If you have a dual-band router (or multiple APs), make sure your M7 is on a 5 GHz AP as not to clog the 2.4 GHz band - and check that there aren't other 2.4 GHz devices hogging bandwidth - or nearby microwaves interfering with the wireless signal.
It already is using the 5Ghz band, and my Chromecast is only device using the 2.4 Ghz band.
The files are .AVI videos, I used to be able to play them but I can't anymore

Sorry, not sure then... AVIs are tough because they usually require transcoding. Do you have a known-good MP4 you can test, like a video recorded on your phone or something?

Hi,
I was lucky enough to grab a last price today from best buy n feel quite proud owner of most sort after device
It works beautifully integrated with chrome browser irrespective of devices and plays HD videos from YouTube smoothly.
But then doesn't play Netflix videos for some strange reasons... Says " unable to connect to netflix. please try again or visit chromecast "
Had a chat with customer care of Netflix they have no clue about this.
FYI Netflix works perfectly in standalone laptop or android phone.
I had done factory reset of chrome cast and my internet speed is > 15 MBS with n series wireless router
Any advice will be highly appreciable
Thanks

Same issue for me. It appears to be an issue with Netflix but there's no way to report is as they are clueless when it comes to the Chromecast.

I've had a couple of random errors with Netflix as well, all the while it worked fine on my computer. For me though, they've worked themselves out after an hour or so. Haven't had time to dig an further into it.

Same here.
Since I just picked up the unit yesterday, first try with Netflix had connection issues. Then about an hour later, Netflix worked flawlessly.

Surprisingly :fingers-crossed:.. Netflix worked after a day .. Chromecast works pretty well including HD movies with awesome sound ..
Its the Netflix app if you are using the new nexus 7 tablet. They probably updated it, but if you still have issues try uninstall and reinstall or FC and clear data and cache.

Very surprised to read this. I have streamed at least 20 shows since getting it.
So far never an issue or glitch. It runs flawlessly.
I am curious to see what the issue is for people.
I was casting from my desktop and note2. Both didn't work at the time, but like I said, the connection issue resolved itself about an hour later which leads me to believe it was on Netflix's end.
Same issueIthink
Hi Guys,
I'm having the same issue. I have set up DNS addresses to unotelly ones and Netflix is working perfectly on PC's and android devices but when I cast from within the app it appears on a red screen with Netflix on it and a spinning timer ......it just sits there doing this with no change. Wish I could get it sorted. Youtube on HD works fine but just can't get Netflix to cast. Most frustrating.
Any help would be appreciated.
remember guys you can't stream movies on dialup connections, you gotta have a robust connection to stream hd and not see any wacky things going on with your devices.
Buggar just found this on unotelly site
Setting Up UnoDNS for Chromecast (Requires DD-WRT Router)
Modified on: Fri, Oct 11, 2013 at 1:20 PM
Google's Chromecast devices allow you to stream Netflix and other channels directly on your TV. Chromecast however has hard-coded Google DNS servers and offers no way to change them. In order to access unblocked apps on the Chromecast, the Google DNS requests need to be rerouted to UnoDNS servers at the router level.
Since most routers don't have this functionality, the only way Chromecast devices will work with UnoDNS is with a supported DD-WRT enabled Router. Chromecast is NOT SUPPORTED in any other way until further notice.

Ftfy.
I have found a solution that should work with almost any router, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47609732&postcount=103
I, fortunately, have had no problems with Netflix.
I have a Netgear router.
No issues here either.
Hey all,
Really weird thing is happening right now with my Chromecast. I started streaming a YouTube playlist of all 82 episodes of Dr. Katz, and when I longpressed home to clear my recent apps, I just clicked the "clear all" button like always. This took the Chromecast icon away from the notification bar and killed my YouTube session, but the video was still streaming. My curiosity piqued, I turned my WiFi off to see what would happen. Lo and behold, the videos are still playing. Anyone have an explanation for this? I'm not complaining, just curious as to how this is even possible.

This is perfectly normal and how it's supposed work. You are not streaming from your device but rather your device is the remote. Once the link or signal has been sent to the cc you can go as far as pulling the battery on your device and the video will still play.

Oh...huh. Well, I sure do feel stupid. I knew CC doesn't "stream" in the traditional sense but for some reason I thought it required the device of origin to always be connected to the same WiFi network as the CC. Anyway, thanks for the heads up guys!

In the Plex thread we also tested and verified that the Chromecast does not need an internet connection during local streaming from Plex media server on your PC.
It does need an internet connection to phone home to Google when you first connect to the Plex media server on your local network. But after that it will keep on interacting with the controller and playing new selections from the server over the local wifi network even with the internet disconnected. It only needs to connect to the internet again if you disconnect the controller from the Chromecast and then try to reconnect it. At that point the Chromecast goes to black screen and freezes in a wait state if there is no internet connection. But it resumes the local connection seamlessly if you restore the internet connection.

It's only the case (that the device of origin needs to stay connected) when "forwarding" video from another source and when the source data exists on the origin device. For example, Avia can pull from a DLNA source and push that to Chromecast, and both Avia and RealPlayer Cloud can cast local files to Chromecast.
If Chromecast is using its regular "optimized" playback from a streaming provider (HBO GO, Hulu Plus, YouTube, Viki, Pandora, etc) then the origin device is not needed after the cast starts. That's one of the things I like about Chromecast - you can start playback on one device then move to another device to control playback if you want or need to (for example, your kid decides they really want to play Angry Birds on your phone).
Hey there,
I recently transitioned from an AppleTV to a ChromeCast. However, I seem to be having a small problem with Chromecast.
I have Chromecast running perfectly, it streams as it needs to stream from my phone on Youtube, Viki, and Netflix. However, when I go back to my homescreen or I lock my device, the streaming stops altogether.
If i'm not mistaken, wasn't Chromecast the device that allowed phone users to minimize the app and then proceed to browse the net using their phone?
Is anyone having this problem? I'm currently using an iPhone 5S , I also tested this on the S3 and it was the same problem.
I have three running in my household all phones and tablets work as remotes. Try updating your app on the phone. Never tried with apple

Your understanding is correct - normal (optimized) playback of content from the Internet should not require the casting device. You should be able to reboot or turn off the casting device without interrupting the stream.
What applications are you casting from?
Appletv will have this feature, hope chromecast will have it too in the future. This will be useful for streaming local contents when on a different house or at a hotel.

The Chromecast will never operate without an internet connection because it loads its apps from the internet.
If you load an app like Plex that streams local content, you can continue operating without an internet connection until you exit that app.
krizz07 means without an access point so WiFi direct for streaming from device to device (something I'd love to have ). Chromecast does have a WiFi connection that you use during set up so this should be possible but who knows.

It doesn't matter....It can not load an app from anywhere but the Internet. All Apps must first be checked against a whitelist kept on Google Servers so until such time as Google gets rid of the whitelist you will need an Internet connection to do anything with the device.
Sounds like something that could.be 'fixed' in firmware ,at least for simple pic/vid playback

if the chromecast can keep something temporarily, then it should technically just get it from the host device right? and since it can already broadcast an access point so it can function without internet initially.
Then it would be a Roku. Don't hold your breath waiting for Google, buy a Roku.

I tried what is explined in the link. it still ask for internet. Fyi...i have new chromecast
I just got my chromecast last week. The only reason I bought my chromecast is because I have an older (non-smart) tv that has no streaming capabilities, and my ps3 died. I have a PS4 but the ps4 does not support any playback of files (mp3, mp4, avi etc) like you could on the ps3. I had a big library of music and home movies on my ps3., and now I had no way to play this media on my tv. So I bought a chromecast.
Streaming from the PC works great. I use the videostream extension with the remote app for android. And videos/movies stream great with no lagging at all.
So I decided to try and stream data from my android phone. I tried just about every app on the play store. From Avia, to AllCast and everything in between. Yet everything I try lags terribly. Every video that I try and stream (even very short 10-20 second videos) freeze and buffer every few seconds.
I know my network can handle the streaming. I have a wireless AC router and 50+MB/s ISP connection. Also Once again streaming from my pc works flawlessly. Streaming from youtube app on my phone to the tv also works flawlessly. So why is it that I can't stream videos taken by my phone properly?
What is your phone? Can you try to upload a video from the phone to the pc and check the speed?

Sorry I should have specified that. I have the HTC ONE M8.
EDIT:
Using the wifi file transfer app, I downloaded a 126MB video file to my PC and it averaged at around 5.5MB/s (seems slow for wireless AC). Also my PC is hard wired to my router, and I was sitting about 2 feet away from my wireless router. So signal strength shouldn't cause an issue.
The phone has to work as a tool that not only transfers the video to the Chromecast, but it must also work as an on the fly media transcoder and server. This is a lot of strain for one phone.
Try casting a video with format and resolution that is natively supported on chromecast. But the speed from 5.5 Mb is also a bottleneck for casting a video with higher resolution.
The HTC one M8 is still pretty powerful in terms of phones.
I think I figured out the problem. I have a dual band router. I connected the chromecast to the 5G band (for obvious reasons. Faster speeds) but as it turns out I'm having issues with my router
I did a test on my phone. Sitting right next to my router so signal strength was excellent, I checked the link speed of both the 5G band and the 2.4 and the 5G band is only showing 24mbps Where as 2.4 band is maxed out at 74mbps. I'm not sure why my 5GHZ band is so slow. It's wireless AC and should be way faster.
I also did a speed that that confirmed it. While connected to my 5ghz band my speed was It 20mbps download. On 2.4ghz I averaged over 30, and then I suspect that the rest was limited by my isp.
So I believe since I have my chromecast connected to the 5ghz band, this is causing the sluggish playback.
The Chromecast doesn't support 5 GHz, only 2.4 GHz. In any case most people find that the range isn't very good with 5 GHz. If the signal has to go through a few walls, you might be better off with 2.4 GHz anyway.
But keep in mind that if both your phone and the Chromecast are using the 2.4 GHz band, streaming from the phone to the router and then from the router to the Chromecast is using 2x the wireless bandwith compared to your hard-wired PC streaming to the Chromecast.
The M8 is fairly fast for a phone, but nowhere near the performance of a desktop PC, so it might still be lagging due to memory/CPU performance issues.
