This thread is provided solely as a link to the HTC provided 4.4.3 OTA update zip. This is for the HTC M8 Developer Edition. It will not work on an M8 running carrier firmware. This OTA should work on a GSM (T-Mobile or AT&T) M8 that was fully converted to the Developer Edition. Neither I nor XDA Developers bare responsibility or liability for any damaged or bricked phone. You flash or update your own device at your own risk.
Method 1
-Download the OTA here Join Copy with this link and we both get an extra 5GB of storage!
-Download also mirrored here
-Copy it into /sdcard/Download (This is where it downloaded to for me)
-Enter recovery (You must be on the HTC Developer Edition Stock Recovery)
-Hold Power and Volume Up for about 4-5 seconds and release so that Recovery Options pop up
-Apply update from sdcard and find the zip location
-Flash the OTA update
-Re-Root if so desired
-Profit
Method 2
-Download the OTA here Join Copy with this link and we both get an extra 5GB of storage!
-Download also mirrored here
-Copy it into your fastboot binary directory on your PC/MAC/Linux machine
-Power your device into the bootloader and enter fastboot mode
-Run a terminal/command prompt for fastboot and do "fastboot oem rebootRUU" your phone should boot into the HTC black/gray logo.
-Run a terminal/command prompt for fastboot and do "fastboot flash zip yourzipname.zip" replace "yournamezip.zip" with whatever you rename your OTA package to.
-Re-Root if so desired
-Profit

I flashed stock recovery. Do I need to oem lock too?
EDIT:
I oem locked and now I can't get out of the bootloader. I'm facked! Went through this last night and only after I unlocked a 2nd time could I boot back into system. Will flashing the latest viper give me everything I need to fix the back and home buttons?

Just flashed OTA KERNEL over Stock Root.
Boot-looped, since I had a Nandroid, I WIPED... checked my recovery "mount" menu and noticed "System" wasn't selected... installed de-odexed from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282200
booted fine, updated to OTA 1.29.651.10.
Hope this helps!
I ended up flashing Viper's Rom and its was the best thing I ever did, the Rom is flawless and has a lot of tweaks and pull down toggles menu.

Ok, so this confuses me. I am by no means a noob, but this ota thing has me baffled. Is this firmware or just a software/kernel update?
So Viper stated the his PRI or Baseband didn't change after he did this method. Isn't that the phones firmware?
So if this is the case, can't we skip this RUU, fastboot, flash recovery, re-root, piss our pants technique and just flash a rom that is based on the new update?
I'm curious. Hopefully someone can shed some light for me!

Hi everyone...I bought my HTC One Dual 802d aka m7c_dwg from Flipkart...It was a serious pain in the A** to make the 1st SIM slot work after installing custom ROM which was Chienese RUU..
Here are some steps how to go for it..
Pre -requisites:
Your phone should be rooted
You should have very basic knowledge as to how fastboot and adb works..
1)Enable USB- Debugging mode on your phone..
2)Open command prompt on your windows machine
a)type
adb shell
su
setprop persist.radio.simlock.enable 0
reboot
voilaa...u have just made it work...It has worked for the Russian,Chienese,Indian,Indonesian versions model 802d or m7c_DWG...
Pree Thanks if that helped..

Push the Chinese recovery through fastboot .. When you'll go for reboot it will ask if you want to root.. Its the easiest method . If you have any problem then ask and i'll share the recovery..
All the Chinese roms fir 802d will work but i'll suggest that don't go for that.. Indian RUU is the best till now .

How to root HTC 802d
Hi friends...
Here it is, a tutorial on how to root Indian Version HTC 802d
I Take no credit whatsoever of the recovery files..They solely belong to their creators..Thanks to the person who created them..
You are doing all this at your own risk..I cannot be held liable for any damage that u do to your device.
This was the method that i followed and everything worked..It should ideally work for you as well
Make sure you have the latest drivers installed on your system and check if fastboot and adb are working properly..Tutorial for that can be easily found on the internet..
Attached are two recoveries out of which recover.zip has Chinese recovery which will help in rooting and the other one is TWRP which can be for later use..
1)Boot your phone to fastboot mode..
2)open command promt go to the folder where all the files fastboot ,recoveries(download and unzip) are placed.
3)Make sure fastboot is working properly.
4)If everything is workin as intended then type the command(in fastboot mode)
fastboot flash recovery recovery1.img
5)This will push the recovery to your phone..
6)Go to bootloader then reboot into recovery.
7)This is a recovery which will be in Chinese language..Dont worry its just for this time...Select first option (in English it is reboot system now)
8)It will prompt to root ..select yes wala option..u can easily make out as to which is the option which says yes.
9)let the phone reboot...the phone is now rooted...
10)Now if you want TWRP recovery in English follow steps 1-4 and in the 4th step write command
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
11)Reboot recovery to check if everythings fine...
12)Once you have a rooted phone and a custom TWRP recovery then you can very much install any custom rom from recovery like u do on a samsung...
Btw aditya, does ur phone have purple tint camera issue?

Hi nitin,
Ya you need to have unlocked bootloader for that. Plus you need to have custom recovery (TWRP for the sake of english). I hate TWRP cuz I was well accustomed with CWM recoveries. Unfortunately CWM recovery for the time being is only available in chinese .Anyways you need to follow the procedure provided by Aditya above. After flashing recovery1.img (which is CWM recovery in chinese). You will get the option to root it just after selecting the chinese option to reboot. You can figure it out when the option to root will be asked that will be written in english... Go to fastboot again and flash recovery.img now (which is TWRP in english).
Once you flashed TWRP recovery. Put my Root.zip to your internal SD CARD. Go back to TWRP recovery. Choose Install. Select the Root.zip and once completed installing. Reboot to Sense 5. Voila you will see a superuser icon. Now wherever an app needs root access just grant the root access. All set and done...... Enjoy.
I will soon post the links of custom roms for our device. The support is in very early stages as 802d with Google Play is only available for India. Europe editions 802d are yet to be launched. Fingers crossed. :good:
Yes you can update to 4.3 when custom roms would be available. Using the TWRP you can flash 4.3 custom roms, or rom utility update (RUU) will hopefully be launched by HTC to get the stock sense xperience of 4.3 Jellybean.

also with dual sim version there is hardly any development which does not makes things earlier. you need to search for info which adds to the confusion.
I need to do some serious reading to succeed with HTC, lol.

I have a developer edition that I want to return to stock recovery and get the 4.3 OTA update. I'm a bit confused about the best method and during my research came across the downloads on the HTC Dev site. On there, I see that they have the 4.1.2 zip for the developer edition. This raises two questions that I'm hoping someone can help me with.
1) Will this return me to stock and remove the CWM recovery so that I can complete the OTA update?
2) If so, how do I use install the .zip? Do I simply use the CWM recovery tool to install it? Can anyone provide a link to how to complete this?
Apologies for the basic questions, but I'm very confused at the moment.

What firmware are you on?
Unless you're S-off you can't flash a RUU that is lower than your current firmware version.
RUU.zips are flashed in fastboot RUU mode. But if you can use the .exe file it'll automate the whole process.

I'm currently on 4.1.2. I just got the phone and all I've done is flashed CWM recovery to root it and install TiBu. However, I didn't think to update it to the latest update.
So, would I be S-off on a developer edition?
Also, I understand fastboot, but not fastboot RUU. Is this accessible in the CWM recovery mode?
I really appreciate your help. I'm getting a bit frustrated.
Dev Editions are not S-off.
Do a search and read up on S-off, as you still have the opportunity to gain it, but the possibility will be gone once you update.
"fastboot oem rebootRUU"
"fastboot flash zip ruu.zip"
"fastboot flash zip ruu.zip"
(Yes, twice)
Check to be sure everything was successful.
"fastboot reboot"
I'm not sure if you need S-off or not to do it though...

I use Google Translate:)
Thank you for publishing the 'Clockworkmod Recovery', I'm using it(Install only rec).:good:
Deleted some pre-installed original use aromafm
The 'rec‘ not always find the zip from internal storage space
I noticed this rec only install zip from SD card.
HTC butterfly S 919D (CDMA2000) now have sales in China.
I have some questions:
1、How to really get root privileges? seem to get the root after the installation of the rec,But it seems that is not the real root。
2、Turn the phone off, charging AC when the screen is always bright. Of course, it shows charging.
This is a normal thing?
I do not want the screen brighter.
3、STOCK_CN_ODEX_HTC_BUTTERFLY_S_919D_1.66.1401.1_v.2 .1.2. Zip
This rom is the original or modified?
In this zip, boot.img and recovery.img is original?

I bought this mobile in China,
so far I couldn't root this mobile
I brought it to "hboot..with unlocked and tempered sign" with fastboot
but couldn't enter to Recovery mode ( changed over 10 different versions of clockworkmod recovery, and twrp)
Checked the Chinese websites , all of them don't have an answer how to root this mobile.
This Recovery can be transplanted to the HTC Butterfly S / 9060 Dual SIM ROOT China Unicom?
Can you help me? Thank you.

if you phone is not carrier based follow this
1. Unlock your bootloader.
2. If your phone is turned on, power it off. After it is
powered completely off, hold Volume Down and Power
for about 5-10 seconds. Release them, and you
should see the bootloader screen. It says "AP Fastboot
Flash Mode (S)" at the top.
3. Plug your phone into your computer. If Windows
installs any more drivers, just let it finish.
4. Download the TWRP recovery from the link found
here.
5. Put the img file in the folder with your
fastboot.exe file.
6. Open a command window and type this, then hit
Enter:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img
7. On your phone, use Volume Down to scroll down
to Recovery, and hit Volume Up to select it. The phone
will reboot into Recovery. You should see
something that looks like this (the version number at
the top will be different).
8. Hit Reboot, and then System. The phone will
reboot back into Android.
9. Download SuperSU to your phone.
10. Reboot to Recovery by following step 2, then step
7.
11. Hit Install, then find the SuperSU zip you
downloaded, and select it. Confirm the install, and wait
for it to finish. Reboot to system.
12. You should now have root. You can check this
with a root check app or something that requires root.

This tutorial does not apply to those on Verizon, AT&T, or Republic Wireless who's carriers forbid motorola from releasing the bootloader unlock code for these models...might ask the OP which model he/she has before posting instructions like this.
If the OP is using one of these carrier-branded devices, any update past 4.4.2 will result in being unable to root.

Can I ask you one more thing? Can the bootloader of model xt1058 be unlocked? I ordered it from China (Aliexpress.com - it was for 235$ new, which is more than half of the prize that I would pay where I live) and I don't have the phone yet and it say that it is xt1058 unlocked SIM. I'm familiar with this procedure of rooting, I just didn't know that the bootloader is unlockable in other than developer edition (for free and I don't want to send it to the Chinese Middleman)... Thank you for your help.

As long as it is not an AT&T XT1058, it should be unlockable. Try the motorola unlock website. Almost all phones are able to be unlocked except for the ones that I listed in my previous post.
If you have any issues, let us know what the firmware version of your phone is (From Settings > About Phone ). You may have to use a specific regional Moto Unlock site.
If you are still on 4.2.2 aren't you able to unlock the bootloader?

No. You seem to be confusing "write protection disable" with actually unlocking the BL. HUGE difference. I suggest much more reading...

I did see that...but it is still inaccurate. All carrier based models EXCEPT those that I listed can be unlocked. Sprint, USC, all the European carrier-based variants, all the Brazil carrier-based devices, etc. They can all be unlocked except for AT&T, Verizon, and Republic Wireless. Your post makes it seem as if you must own the Retail devices to unlock - this is not the case.
Also, you suggest a very outdated version of TWRP (not even put out by the official TWRP team) that has been reported to cause issues on some devices. We should all be using the latest version found here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/ghost (2.7.1.1)
Additionally, you have included unnecessary steps. All TWRP versions will root for you - you do not have to download SuperSU and flash from recovery. Simply booting into recovery and clicking exit will cause TWRP to offer to install SuperSu Installer for you with no downloading necessary...
While we all appreciate that you are trying to help, your instructions have quite a few inaccuracies and unnecessary steps.

That is an older, unofficial link. While it works for 4.4.0, for 4.4.2 and up it is better to use the latest official version -> http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/ghost

Sorry, old post that I'm replying to... but I want to clarify something.
For the Motorola X, the OTA's are incremental updates. You must be on a specific previous ROM, and "step up." To put it another way... to take the 4.4.4 OTA your phone needs to be on 4.4.2. To take the 4.4.2 OTA, your phone needs to be on 4.4. To take the 4.4 OTA, your phone needs to be on the 4.2.2 w/camera fix version. To take the 4.2.2 w/camera fix OTA, your phone needs to be on the initial shipping ROM version.
Usually you can take the updates one a time, and stop at the version you want. HOWEVER, we have seen cases where OTA's can no longer be deferred and you will be prompted but have no choice but to "install now."
