Can I disable/uninstall? - Moto X Q&A

I've started using Hangouts as my default SMS application on the request of my brother, he uses it. Can I uninstall or disable the stock SMS application? Do I need to have both running?
Before anyone asks, yes I am rooted. I have a Developer Edition. I just can't remember if it's safe to uninstall the stock SMS app. I know in the past it wasn't safe to do so but since Hangouts is basically a fancier SMS app I was wondering if it was safe to remove the stock one.

Since you have set Hangouts as your default sms app, you don't need to do anything to the stock sms app. No need to disable or delete stock.

No.. Don't do anything to the stock app.... It needs to be there... Better hide it using hiding apps/launchers

I disabled it. No issues whatsoever. Stock 4.4.2 not rooted. I hate clutter so I can't stand having a redundant app. Just use the stock OS disable feature. Do not freeze or uninstall it through titanium or similar program.

That's what I thought. I'm like you, I hate havint multiple apps on my phone that all do the same thing. I'll just disable it then.
Thanks.

Sorry. I couldn't sent messages via Hangouts once when i disabled Messaging. It Stopped Working very often.
Now I tried and it's good..

[Q] How to disable "X messages" on lock screen?

Hi guys,
I have an issue that may be a PEBKAC issue, but I use Go SMS Pro instead of the stock Messaging app. When there is a new message for me the lock screen displays it like this ...
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
... which is nice enough, BUT! Problem is, even after I read the messages in Go SMS Pro, the notification stays on the lock screen until I open the stock Messaging app. ...which is not nice
Does anyone know how I disable this functionality?
I'm on MoDaCo Fr12 (not the vanilla one).
I've had the same problem in the past but now I use the stock sms program because of a hard reset. I haven't reinstalled go sms but I think I'll do it, but only if this problem will be solved with the next releases of the program.
I think you have to contact the Go dev team and ask if they can solve the problem because I think "GO SMS" app could reset the internal stock sms counter. Probably they have to adapt the program to the LG 2X behaviour.
Hej Hooolm
This is not the answer to your problem, but another way to get rid of it...
I had same problem cause I used GO sms as well. I still use GO sms, but now I use widgetlocker as my lockscreen. You can customize your lockscreen in any way you want... Much better than the stock. You should check it out

I have the same problem.....
Any Dev know how to get rid of it?
I have the same annoying issue. I disabled the notifications too.....
I ended up baking a version where I replaced LG's sms app with the stock Android one. That functionality doesn't exist in stock
(Well, actually I ended up handing my handset back in to the carrier, telling them it is crap, and demanding another one. Waiting for my Galaxy SII now.)

[Q] Received SMS not visible

Good afternoon to you all, I have some weird poblem. I was making a online payment, for safety the bank sends me a SMS with a verification code. While waiting for the SMS I went to the messages on the phone. This is what I see now:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And:
Restarting didn't help this morning, another SMS with verification code did not pop-up the other invisible one. Reset/flash only option left?
Thanks for all the help in advance

Maybe you can start with something less invasive: do a backup of your sms-es (oand whatever) with some backup app (e.g. MyBackup Root works for me very well, but AFAIR LG also provided some backup appy in the original rom) then open settings/applications/manage applications/all and look for the sms/mms appy. Click it and then try stopping the app and then clear cache and data. Then bring back your smses from the backup ...
BTW, do you use stock sms application or some third-party one (e.g. Go SMS Pro, or Handcent)?
Already tried that. Stopping the 2.3.4 Berichten (Messages) service. It's the stock SMS program by LG.
Clearing cache and such. Still the stupid "1" stays and the message is not removable. Tried selecting all SMS and delete it. It deletes all but the invisible SMS.
Maybe LauncherPro will get rid of this. Something to try in the coming days.
Hmm, LaucherPro didn't change a thing. So a reset looks like the only option. bah.
Got the same problem - FIXED
I got this same bug recently. I got it fixed by this app in play store: Reset Unread SMS by Kamosoft :good:
In my case it happened like this: I had stock SMS app open, because I waited Google 2-step auth SMS... well message received but nowhere to be seen After that every other message has been received correltly but that one was like a ghost - notification always said that 2 unread, but I can only find one... No soft resetting fixed this, but that app did find it instantly. I use Samsung GT-i9100 with Chameleon ROM.

[Q] Persistent Notification

I have this persistent notification which won't go away even after I unchecked the show notification check box. Any ideas how to get rid of the notification?

Don't know the app but it should be a setting within the app and not where you unchecked it in app info. 2 separate purposes...

Nope. No such options exsists in the app. I tried finding it but nope. It also started showing up in my notifications when I upgraded to 4.3, could it be the issue? Or could it be the app itself as it functions as a DSP manager?
Well I use juice and so long as the service is on you can't remove that notification banner so I can only offer that some apps keep it there until closed. I can completely kill the notification like you did and it will disappear but some apps have the options to only stop the notification in the pull down and not the bar. Whereas stopping it via app info kills both/all.

NotificationsOff is a great app for this. After 4.3 Google blocked a loophole apps were using to be persistant without user knowledge. The downside is upon reboot the icon comes back. This app will remove the icon but allow the app to run the in mode it was intended

Text function doesn't work

Ok guys I've checked all my settings and for the life of me can't figure this out. Everytime I use the text feature from the watch it seems to work ok(tells me text sent etc.), if I go to the phone it appears as if everything is ok(shows text being sent from messaging app), but no one receives the text. If I go back to the messaging app and manually type it from the phone it works fine. Cant figure this one out any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.......

What phone are you using? I am on a Galaxy S5.
Note 4, Verizon.
Idk about on Google not working but the only way I can respond from the watch is I use Google messenger. On stock messaging app on my G3 to reply it tries to make me open on phone. Maybe try the same and see if it makes a difference?
You have to use google hangouts as your default text program or it won't work. Had same issue.

I enabled hangouts as my default and also made sure I enabled sms and it still doesn't work. The message is listed in my app but is never received by the recipient.

Also tried the Samsung default messages app as the default in Google now and it didn't work.
I think I'm the only person with this issue.
This fixed it for me.

I'm on Tmobile. Don't have that screen. So maybe it's in the settings somewhere of your carrier?
Not on my Sprint variant.
Anyone has this problem or can suggest something? Anything? It's killing me.

You could start by providing more detailed information. What carrier? What third party apps do you have that relate to contacts/phone?

My phone is Verizon but I use it with T-Mobile. I've looked up all the apps that has access to my contacts and draw over apps and didn't find anything unusual.
I use truecaller but that one has it's own notification.
The picture I attached in my first post shows what is really bothering me
I have Verizon and don't get this
Well finally after a lot of research and tracking apps I finally found what app it is. It's call (efing) reminder app. That is a part of bixby I guess.
Flashlight
Plagued me for 2 weeks and removed apps one by one. As others suspected, it was a flashlight app. It's gone now. App has an icon that several apps use, so I don't remember precisely which one. Not going to reinstall one to be sure. Light House Inc has this icon.
Its App Backup and restore. Uninstall that and the annoying after phone call popups are gone
Had same problem. After uninstalling app backup and restore, everything fine.
I also had same problem but solved it by uninstalling "Bestie".
I also double checked it again after installing and uninstalling again.
Hope it helps.
App backup & restore fix
Hey everybody. I came across this thread when I was trying to fix this issue on my phone. I saw that nopers said if you uninstall the app it will go away which I'm sure would definitely work. I wanted to keep the app tho so this is what I did:
Settings>Applications>App backup and restore>Permissions>slide phone and SMS off
This worked for me on Samsung Galaxy S7 so hope that helps anyone looking for a solution.
