icons: have searched and cannot find answer....

..... or i have overlooked it.
i am starting this thread to find out how to change my icons, either a) without having to tamper with the registry b) what best registry editor to use if need be or c) am i being completely oblivious and i just need to drop the icl file into a specific folder.
i have come across many interesting icons that are said to be specifically made for WM5, and yet only one had an installer package, the rest or either a collection of seperate icon files or one icl file, and i am at a lost as to what to do with them on my mda (g3 wiza200), and i dont want to mess around and screw something up and have to do a complete restart for the third time.
any help would be appreciated, as i HAVE searched through the forums, googled, asked jeeve and what have you, and have not seen anything specific giving guidelines or directions so that i don't mess anything up.

Change default web search from landscape mode?

(ATT FUZE) I've tried googling and browsing through the preferences in opera:config, but is there a way to change the default web search from the landscape menu from Yahoo? I absolutely hate yahoo.
Anyone ?
i would love to know this as well?
Curious myself as well. I have looked all over the net with no luck so far.
I'm using the Sprint Touch Pro using Juggalo rom and when I click on web search in landscape it brings up Google. Might want to ask him on ppcgeeks.com I don't know if he post here or not.
Mine changed to google when I changed to the tf3d landscape theme..
I was unable to find any other way of doing this, but it has to be possible since its something within manila I expect.
I currently use the ROMeOS2 Confuzed ROM and when I use the landscape search it uses google so there is definitely a way to get that setup just wit around for someone to point it out for you.
Found it
In windows directory there is a file called
ActionMenuItems.xml
Change from read only
Change the http ://us.m2. yahoo blah blah to whatever you want.
change back to read only
reboot phone.
I tried this, and now all my buttons show email and are not clickable. Could someone post thier working or unedited xml file so I can see if i accidentally changed something?
can someone upload a copy of the ActionMenuItems.xml file? my rom is missing this file. Thank you.
Edit: Winmo 6.5 doesn't come with ActionMenuItems.xml or InternetPortal.xml. I found them in a kitchen file. They worked.

Customizing your Dialer

I wasn't sure where a good place to post this would be and haven't found a thread in the Raphael or Diamond forum on this topic so hopefully I don't get flamed for starting a new thread. I asked 4 days ago in "Let's see your ATT Fuze Screens" thread on how to edit my dialer skin to make the number keys transparent so I can view my wallpaper behind it so it flows with my theme (this was after a screenshot from someone with a dialer I want and have not been able to find). I did not get back a response. Maybe I posted in the wrong thread. I am a noob, but I am trying to learn how to do things for myself. I have read the wiki and countless threads (yes sometimes the entire 200 pages), used search function within threads, within the specific forums and within the entire xda site. Alot of results come up and none are helpful. Maybe I am not using the right search terms. In any case, I've tried to find a dialer I like, but to no avail, so I would like to try and create my own. Yes, I would like to just be able to install a cab and be done, but I am willing to try and figure it out on my own with some guidance. If someone could please point me in the right direction to do this (maybe the files I have to edit and I can try and figure out how to do that myself from other threads) I would be very greatful. I would like to have a transparent key pad on the phone screen and the screen when receiving a call and be able to place my own wallpaper behind it (Need landscape as well since I have the Fuze). I think this is something others would want as well to keep there personalized themes consistent. If this thread is redundent, please point me to the existing thread.
Thank you.
Since nobody else is replying, I will at leas share what I know. Using your phone's file explorer, navigate to the device's "windows" folder and look for the two dialer .bmp files named "Assets_dialer_Normal.bmp" and "Assets_Dialer_Pressed.bmp". Those are the two files that you need to edit or replace to get the dialer to your liking. Note: there are also other files named similarly "_Assets_dialer_Normal.bmp" etc. so don' mistake the files with the underscore at the beginning of the file name. I hope this points you in the right direction. Be advised that the biggest obstacle will be finding a way to overwrite those protected files. Good luck
IM ACTUALY IN THE PROCESS OF CUSTOMIZING MY DIALER..
IM SKINNING 'UGGALO_x WHITE S2A CDMA'
customizing the dialer is no problem. the same as skinning any of the rest of the display, to get around permissions issues just use Total Commander CE to overwrite the existing file.
transparency is a problem as the dialer pad is comprised of bmp files and as such there is no transparency like you would find with gif or png (unless someone has found a transparency color and i've just missed it).
it may be possible to use your current background image as the background of the bitmap to overlay the buttons onto, thus giving the appearance of transparency. this of course comes with the downside that if you decide to change your background you would have to change your phone screen to one that matched. in addition it would not be just the files mentioned by tx_dbs_tx that you would need to modify in this scenario as the dialer only takes up the lower... oh, 3/5ths of the screen? you would also need to modify the "Calls and Contacts" / "All Calls" / "Speed Dial" fields and the field where the number you are dialing is displayed. i am not presently aware if this has even been attempted yet.
personally, i have only attempted a color change to the dialer to date, but have been successful with that. if somehow nobody else responds before i can check on the unknowns above, i will come back and let you know what i find.
Thanks
Thanks to everyone who replied. I will try and see if I can mess around with these files. I found a dialer to use for now. See thread below. I need to figure out what files are for the slide to answer screen in portrait and landscape and the dialing screen (the screen when you make a phone call). I think that is all of the screens associated with the phone. Please correct me if I am wrong.
The Vista Abstract Dialer by [email protected] found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=463958
I can't upload the zip of the files. Just go to the thread above to download and break down CAB

[Q] Customizing/Mod Handcent Skin

Hi everyone,
I have been searching very vigorously on this, unfortunately have no been able to find an answer in many forums =\
How do you customize handcent skins? (not themes, where you only modify your bubble style and home page)
The current hero/iphone skins are very restrictive.
I've searched other forums and seen people doing it by tweaking the apk a little (after all I only want to change some colours, like the colour of the "send" button). Could I do that? (Is it a good idea?) and could someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance!
just bumping this to see if anyone knows
I've tried editing the APK only to have the entire application disappear on my next boot (it looked somewhat successful the first time round)
try signing it with apk manager. place the modified apk in place-here-for-signing folder, and run the script.bat then choose option 16.
Once you edit the apk file the sign is broken and what you're left with is sort of a 'temporary' sign. that's why it disappears on the next boot, sign it and try installing it normally.

Watchmaker faces settings reset

I use watchmaker and love it. One issue I am having is certain faces have color settings (color for the hands, color for the text, color for the markets, etc). It seems that after setting the colors just the way I like it, within a few hours the colors reset to the default settings.
Does anybody else have this issue and does anybody know how to get the colors to stick?
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers,
B.D.
It depend on how that specific watchface is being build. You better start building your own face, with the desired colours and that will not reset itself .

Not really helpful in answering my question, ro_explorer. I know building my own would allow the watchface to be styled more to my personal tastes without requiring my question be answered, but I do like faces others have created with their personal scripting and sometimes these faces are locked and I do not have the time to recreate them. As such I'm asking a specific question about watchmaker and how it operates. I would ask that you please do not act condescending and pedantic in answering a specific question about a specific program in the future.
Sincerely,
B.D.

I had the same issue with one watch face I have been using. I ended up solving it when I found a file that configures the defaults for the watch face. I edited the file and changed the variables for the colors and other settings to the way I wanted them to be so when it resets, it goes back to how I want it.
I assume that you could maybe do something similar. On my phone the location of the file was:
/sdcard/BeautifulWatches/scripts
It was just a matter of opening the text file and then changing the values for the variables. Then going on the watch and removing the watch face and resending it to the watch from watchmaker on my phone.
Nx248, thank you. I will explorer the scripts used to try to track down the colors I want. This is helpful. Wish the watch/program would remember the colors though and save me the time in tracking down the script implementation.
Thanks again.
Cheers,
B.D.

Please don't be an ass. My advice was a real one and I'm sticking to it. If you want to have something that suits your specific needs, with the specific look, the ONLY WAY to achieve it is to build it yourself. Do not expect others to deliver the perfection for you.

And I'm convinced 100% that you sent that wish to the developer as well ...
If you really want to find out more about the inner workings of a certain software/platform, or to add useful things to it, the easiest way is to contact the developer.
My recommendation is to stop complaining and actually do something to fix your issue. Do not bash on the ones who are trying to share with you their ideas.
ro_explorer,
If there were an option you would like to see on your car would you build a car yourself, or reach out to see if anybody else had implemented the solution. Your responses ARE condescending and rude in the way you come across expecting people to have infinite time to do this. Maybe you have the time to explorer building this yourself but I have other more important things to do which is why I posed the original question.
To quote you, 'don't be an ass. '
I have found a number of people who have offered useful help on these forums and still contend your 'advice' does not address the original question. I would contend that you need to read the questions people post and not write out an answer just to up your post count or 'prove' what a smart ass you can be.
This is the last post I will make on this subject.

I'm an engineer and a tinkerer .... I'm ALWAYS implementing my own solutions in ALL technical fields that I understand. I also help others and try to put seeds of creation in everyone else ....
If I ever had to ask for stuff I always asked the producer.
I hope this is answering your concerns.
Other than this I'm really sorry you are sensitive to a level to consider my comments as rude ...
Good luck in your endeavour ... If I can help you again, I will ...

Hi nx248,
I tried changing the script on the phone and resending the watchface to the watch but found that since the script had already been transferred to the watch previously I had to edit the script on the watch.
I accomplished this by adb into the watch and pulling the script to my computer, editing it, and then pushing the script back on the watch to the /sdcard/BeautifulWatches/scripts directory. Alternatively, I think I could have pulled the script from my phone, edited it, and pushed it to the same location.
In any case, I edited the watchface variables so that the default position in the array corresponded to the colors I wanted, which is working.
Thanks for your help. :good:
EDIT: Just saw that you had stated I should delete the watchface from the watch. I don't know how to do this, so I will have to educate myself.
I read the Watchmaker forum and found that if you enter the "change faces" screen on the watch under Watchmaker (usually press at one of the main watch positions - default to 3 o'clock, but can be set to 6,9,12 o'clock) and swipe up on the face you wish to remove, it is removed from the watch.
Cheers,
B.D.
