s5 active wireless charging? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

Anyone that has an active can you look under the cover to see if there are any contacts to get wireless charging to work? Was going to get the phone but I'm sure the built in cover for charging is just going to become a pita and break eventually.

No there are no contacts points just the usb port, which yea in my opinion is a crappy design. Also wireless charging requires no wires and no contact points if it did then it would not be wireless charging. You want to look into a power mat for wireless charging.

SMH, seriously? The contact points are needed to attach the wireless charging receiver to which stick to the back of the case . So yes, contact points are needed for wireless charging, for the wireless receiver. And unfortunately this phone doesnt appear it will ever have the ability to have a wireless receiver patch behind the battery case. A universal one that clips into the microusb port would probably work but kinda not a great route to go.

Would have been even better with wireless charging

This phone would have been more perfect with wireless charging built in, anyone agree?

Yes, it would have been better, but you don't have to make a thread about this...

Well even though it doesn't I've found this http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/qi-micro-usb-wireless-charging-adapter-clip-p37404.htm , so technically it could. And appologies.

It doesn't have wireless charging but the dock that comes free with the phone in some areas doesn't need to plug into the phone and must do it wirelessly or via pins just beneath the backing I suppose

There are 2 contacts on the left hand side of the phone which get used with the dock. They are power only - not USB or HDMI. There is *no* wireless charging in this phone.

Nokias wireless charger works with all phones that have NFC, looks like i will be buying that then!
From what I've seen wireless charging is presently a bit dodgy anyway, perhaps Sony are just waiting for the tech to settle down a bit before introducing it. I don't think I'll be going for wireless charging with my N4 any time soon.

I don't think so. It has NFC so that you can launch a task when you put your phone to charge, but it's still based on the Qi wireless charging spec which means the phone has to be compatible too.

just looked in to it, sorry your right, i had read somewere without looking it up. My bad!
@OP: Why would you want wireless charging in the first place? It's just a gimmick it might be nice to have but, when you don't have it you won't miss it either way.
Same with 3d also a gimmick, we can live perfectly without 3d movies etc. Even though 3d movies can be quite nice to see.

wireless charging is not comfortable for daily uses
I had a Droid DNA and hated the wireless charging. For one you have to pay upwards of $25-$50 for a wireless charging pad, charging takes several times longer, the phone/battery get hot while using it, which will probably lead to shortened battery life, and it's not like you can use your phone while wireless charging since if it moves more than a few millimeters off the pad it stops, versus wired where you are limited only to the length of the wire.
Isnt wireless charging jsut putting the phone on a "dock"? Like my cordless phone? or the old nokia's where u had to put it on a charging dock? Ppl behave as those it is sending microwaves to your phone within a certain radius and the phone magically charges...and if it were like that I would be afraid of nuking my insides lol

Exactly my thought. It's wireless, but you have to put your phone on a mat... i really prefer putting my phone on a dock, and the one for Xperia Z is very good because there is no "port" that might go loose with time, just two metal pins that are touching the charger pins.
For those in doubt - here is the dock Sony will release to go with this phone - Not quite wireless charging but nearly. Having seen this it has convinced me to get the phone - the thought of fiddling with the port covers in the dark every night to conect the charger was putting me off (my gf goes to bed before me so I can't put the light on).

Price is supposed to be ~35£. Could be cheaper, but it's not that bad.

Anyone want to mod & fit a USB charging port inside?

OK technicaly it's possible to fit and wire up a USB port to the headset and cut a port hole out. But we need some expert help here to be honest there ain't much in the headset so fairly possible any help would be appreciated pics of inside etc.
Yeah have actually thought about this... thinking i may attempt. Woundering if we could use a samsungs mhl dock circuit to use the hdmi out at the same time as gearvr

What we need is when the new gear vr is releases a teardown and see how the micro usb is attached and mod one our selves.
If you can find the pin out for charging, then you can probably wire solder a female micro USB to it.
Why not using a wireless charger with a qi wireless receiver card on the Note 4?
Wireless charger probably won't keep up charging phone while using vr apps. Wireless chargers usually output around 0.5A or a little more while factory wall chargers - 2A

question about new wireless charger

i got the new (circular) wireless charging station from samsung as well with s6e. i was wondering if i can use the advance fast charging that comes with the phone on the wireless charger to have it charge my phone wireless faster.
or will it damage the charger?

I don't think wireless charging will be any faster no matter what 5v USB adaptor you use as the wireless pad will only put out a set current, but I used the adaptive fast charger that came with the phone and to give you a rough idea of it's speed it topped my Edge up from 24% to 97% in about 2 hours. Quick enough for me and way faster than my old Nexus 4 on wireless charging.
While we are on this subject, would it be harmful for the phone to be wirelessly charging and plugged charging simultaneously? Would it do nothing, charge even faster, or overheat and damage the phone? I dont plan on trying it, just curious.

I would imagine that once something is plugged into the USB port (charger, OTG or whatever) wireless charging would be disabled as a safety precaution. This has been the case on other devices and I assume the same would apply in this instance.
The new wireless charger from Samsung supports AFC (adaptive fast charging) and it works with the cable and power brick that came with it. Been confirmed online a few times and I can also confirm because it charged my phone from about 5% to 100% in under 2.5 hours. That being said it's still not as fast as just plugging into the wall.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using Tapatalk
Just so everyone knows how it works you can use either the charger that comes with the phone or in the box with the wireless charger. As far as it charging faster the way it works is 50% in 30 mins when connected physically to the wall. On the wireless charging pad it goes up 20% in 30 mins. Now the good thing about it is when the devices charging port goes out you can still charge your phone and it's faster then the old pad they used to use.

This makes little sense. If it supports fast charging, it supports fast charging. If it's "not as fast as just plugging into the wall," then it doesn't support fast charging.
Fast charging will get you from 5% to full in around an hour, not 2.5; which correlates with where wireless tech is right now. Because regardless of whether or not it can support the power input from a fast charging adapter, wireless chargers currently cannot utilize "fast charge" tech. The fastest wireless Qi chargers currently are 5V/1A chargers. That's as good as it gets right now and they're nowhere near fast charge spec.
So regardless of what you may have seen "confirmed" online, the Samsung charger isn't a fast charge device.
I am using a wireless charging and I would comment like "so far so good"
I think you should also try this. !!!

The charging pad for me is a convenience factor. The fact that the fast charging gets ours phones up to 100% in 1-2hours depending on who you listen too is already fantastic. I like the idea of just walking in my door at home and placing it on the pad. Who cares if it takes a little longer that plugged in fast charging. Enjoy the ability of just placing the phone on the pad when you get home and have things to get done right away. Can't believe so much negativity for a phone just released with no development yet such as custom ROMs and kernels to make a beast of a phone, a KILLER beast. Sorry, just too much negativity for me. I have owned every Samsung Galaxy all the way up to this Edge 128GB. Yeah, you can't remove the battery. Yeah, no SD card slot. But the Internal memory is so damn fast, I am no longer in that complaint department camp. As for people moaning that their rear glass magically broke all by itself...I have a hard time believing that. I bought a Spigen NeoHybrid case that covers the back with a nice rubberized well fitting cover. The edges of the case ar metal, so you still have that wonderful tactile feeling of a solid metal phone. Best Samsung phone to date, IMHO and once ROMs and custom recoveries come along, it can only get sweeter. In the meantime, I will get off my soapbox and enjoy a phone that far exceeds my S5 and happily wait for developers to do their magic. Patience is a virtue. Sorry for my rant if it offends those that expect perfection out of the box. Yes, it's a damn expensive phone. So are IPhones. And they had issues right out of the box and their OTA fixes caused worse problems. I rest my case.
EDIT: The help so far from users here in general have been fantastic and my hat off to thos that helped me deal with softbricking my phone from either initially using a root file that didn't work for our 925 models, to showing the way to use Kies to actually restore the full stock image, and to ZiDroid to actually give us the ability to at least have a working stock recovery screen instead of the dreaded black only screen after rooting. And I enjoy using apps that require rooting so as far as warranty issues goes, I don't really care. If I can Odin, Kies, smartswitch or whatever new stuff comes along, then I'm a happy camper. Other here just need to do a little reading and search before posting rants that have fixes already out there posted. Off soapbox again
S6 wireless chargin box doesn't include cable and plug in it. I will buy a new data cable and plug for it. Should I buy adaptive fast charging cable and plug which comes with S6 or can I use S5/Note 3 charger for it? I am asking cos S6's adaptive fast charging cable and plug is more expensive than S5 charger

In Turkey, they give it free with S6 edge as a promotion without cable and plug. What kind of cable and plug does it have? Same as S6 fast charger or classic S5/Note 3 charger?

That's probably why you just got the pad since it was a promotion. I bought both of mine through samsung mobile website and they came with white ones but not adaptive fast charging. The pad cannot charge fast with it anyways.

Car dock with fast wireless charging support?

All,
Looking for a car dock (not the charger itself, already have that) that supports fast wireless charging. Suggestions?
I've come across just this, but with mixed reviews of having to position it just right: http://www.amazon.com/Qi-Infinity-W...2JFY3Z3Z0G2TS&psc=1&ref_=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl

Just going to add this since it's something I heard recently. You can't quick charge while the screen is on. So if you want quick charge to keep your phone on while using it as a music player and gps the quick charge feature won't matter.
Yeah that makes sense due to heat issues I'm sure. Mine quick charges with the AOD going. I'll have to try it but either way at times its just in the dock in car and I want quick charging. I have a perfect dock now but doesn't do fast wireless charging.
Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk
My S7E says it's wirelessly fast charging even with the screen on. Is this inaccurate?
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
I fired up Google Maps while on my home wireless fast charger, still said fast charging. I'd really like to get a dock for the car with wireless fast charging support, unfortunately Amazon is littered with wireless car docks that say "fast charging" because it's just their terminology/claim when it's not actually the fast charging spec, so it's very hard to find a true fast charger for the car, beyond what I posted above.

You can't use wireless charger because simply our phone doesn't have a wireless recoil in it so it's a hardware thing
