i only bought the lg 2x for 3 weeks, and this is sad to watch.
However, i don't see the point of the gpu being such powerful, since android does not have any thing to push the gpu at all besides benchmark. This is a good way to make myself feel better.
I would like to know is there difference between Tegra 2 cpu vs Exynos cpu at all?? besides Exynos gpu being so much more powerful than Tegra 2?
Thanks

oh thats just terrible
Now my O2x are completely useless - it will just stop functioning im sure
No wait - thats not right - whats happening, it still works ? My games still play, I can still read the news, I can still do all the things I did yesterday.
It's just a benchmark - does it really matter that much ?
Those are just numbers in my opinion.

I might have wrong, but that benchmark is made for mobile gpus and tegra 2 is not like normal mobile gpus it's more like a desktop gpu. A eight core gpu can't be beaten by a quad core or?
Tegra is our one, probably futile, hope of future proofing our phones.
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
Don't expect Tegra to lead benchmarks for a while until mobile graphics are more geared towards immediate mode rendering (Stuff more like PC graphics.). Everyone else uses Tile-based rendering. I believe NVidia did this to avoid changing the rendering (which changes the drivers even more and etc) once they reach "console-level" graphics. The Tegra 2 will excel in a few things. Don't expect it to be the best performer for now. Expect it to be a capable one.
Don't forget. SGS II is capped to 60fps and we won't know what it's truly capable of
I've seen several gaming videos and the tegra walks all over the Orion. I do agree that push for tegras are the last hope for a unified gaming platform and I think it will work. Nvidia has this backed and will see it through.
i am really sick of the fact every android phone has its own different games on each platform. same game cant be run on different android phones. this is stupid.
its one of the reasons i like Nvidia. they are trying to do something good here for once. you see all those samsung galaxy S2 hardware. but where all the games ? those same games i can play on nexus S. with good frames too. however with nvidia and tegra 2, the users are getting exclusive games that can take advantage of the hardware. thats nice for a change.
let the galaxy S2 owners have fun with there powerful phone on paper. at the end of the day. the Tegra 2 owners are the people who are getting the best looking games.
i am not saying i hate S2. because i will buy it as soon as i can. i love super amoled and the techs for the phone. but if i want a pure gaming phone. tegra 2 wins hands down. not because its the most powerful. but because there are exclusive games that take advantage of that GPU.

No their not, they're taking games already under development which Android users were going to see anyway regardless of nvidia's involvement and paying the developers off to make them exclusive titles, this is a bad thing as most Android users will lose out because of it.

this video shows at how the flash player performance is on web browsing watching a video and at this point watching an anime on both phones
so you can see that samsung galaxy with exynos and with 1.2ghz against lg2x nvidia tegra2 with 1ghz and lg optimus 2x seems for me faster for playing videos at this ..!i wanna only know if lg use stock 2.2.2 at this video against samsung galaxy s2 2.3.3 stock
lets compare those two videos and see that there are no differences between samsung s 2 and lg2x
and again dont forget...lg 2x has stock 2.2.2 rom
samsung galaxy s 2 has gingerbread 2.3.3 wich supposed to be faster..
think that when lg 2x will get official ginger 2.3.4 at this summer

True, and Nvidia is causing fragmentation by using their own compression formats. Afaik Mali supports the one and only standard format, but that don't help much when Nvidia is paying off devs to use their proprietary stuff. Yeah not very techical i know, but check out the SGS2 thread for more info.

hello guys..i heard that galaxy note and other samsung device are using an outdated GPU (Mali-400MP GPU)...so is it a little "fail" for our note to have an outdated GPU?plss give ur opinion.. thanks guys

It's so much faster than the sgx540 in the nexus it's ridiculous and since my choice was between those two I'm very happy with it.

Check out the real world performances. Mali 400 outclasses Adreno 220 easily.
The weakpoint of Mali is geometry performance, but it does not matter much with mobiles until now as mobile games are not geometry heavy.
On the other hand, the OpenGL ES 2.x performance and real world performance of Mali is excellent.
With the clock speed of exynos in Note which actually gives much better real world performance with Mali 400 than even SGS2, it runs circles around Adreno 220 powered devices like sensation and even SGX540 powered devices.

The above review is of SGS2. And mind you the performance of note is much better than SGS2. It is one of the most balanced GPUs on market with great gaming as well as multimedia performance (which actually matters more to someone like me.)

Yeah well Scott Adams is wayyyyyyy past his heyday (heck, even being relevant).... haven't read him since 2007 or so, when he started dabbling in intelligent design woo and sexist claptrap...
for being a heavy mobile gamer
i can assure you that the mali 400 on the note does very well with the latest games (asphalt7, dead trigger to name a few) despite having to compute for a much higher resolution display than other phones...
and with a little overclocking (tegrak app or gl notecore kernel) gpu performance can get sky high.
best phone i ever got :victory:

The NOTE's and SGS3's GPU are the same.
However, the S3 is built on a smaller 32nm die-size, so it means it uses less space and less power for same performance. Samsung uses this advantage to clock the frequency much higher than the NOTE (which is built on a 45nm die).
Also, the S3 implements a new, updated driver for the gpu and squeezes more performance out. This was a same move Samsung made with the SGX540, which is also a very fast gpu. The original SGS was clocked real-low and had outdated drivers... after stealing the driver sources from the LG with OMAP 4440 SoC, the SGS (with 4.0.3) was performing in the same league as the 2011/2012 devices.

I know that that both the note and sgs3 has same gpu.. But the one in sgs3 its more powerful cause you said it's overclocked and has better drivers..
Btw do you know why the mali in sgs3 gets so high benchmark scores even wih the 720p screen? I mean is it all due to oc and better drivers?

Better drivers + a little O'C makes the overwhelming difference.
I mean the NOTE comes with *only* 2 cores and *slow* gpu... after I customized it, its running toe-to-toe with the HTC One X (Tegra3).
An easier way to understand is to look at the new RIM PlayBook.
It's got the same processor as the Gnex (Galaxy Nexus) however its much much faster, especially in browsing. It decimates it. It even decimates the ASUS Transformer Prime Infinity (O'C Tegra3 + ICS).... or the Nexus7 (U'C Tegra3 + JBean).
You are only as fast as your slowest component. In the case of Android, its the high-level (slow) implemented software.
= Getting a faster soc with more cores and more ram doesn't really increase performance that much.
Some serious thread necromancy going on here!

Both.
But I don't live by the benchmarks. I mean have you tried some of the HD Apps from TegraZone. On stock TouchWizz, the NOTE really struggles. With a custom setup, I don't get much/any problems.

Exactly. Even though the Playbook has its many flaws (owned two both with screen/USB issues) it was a powerhouse. Multimedia was outstanding and web surfing was by far the fastest.
But the OS, QNX, is to thank for that. If the Playbook was running android it would be nothing out of the ordinary. As much as I love Android it really is not as efficiant as QNX

i think mali 400 is a good GPU because Note1 and Note2 using it. and really nice GPU for gaming
Hi guys
I was planning to buy the Samsung Galaxy S Advance as my second phone, it has an dual core 1 Ghz ST-Ericsson U8500 CPU with a Mali 400 GPU from ARM with 768 MB of RAM. and other similar features like the S plus.
According to the stericsson website the U8500 chip supports 1080p video recording but on the gsmarena specs it shows 720p with 30fps (maybe someday could unlock the full hd feature )
The main reason i posted this thread was to ask about it's GPU performance, as it includes the same GPU from the S2.
Will the performance be the same as the S2 ? or somewhere around that ?
And what about the U8500's performance ?
Another Question
Are Dual cores really fast compared to a single core
I own a S plus which has a Qualcomm msm8255t 1.4 Ghz single core cpu, which i find quite fast, it runs CM9 very smoothly.
I'm also considering this phone, and I hope you don't mind I through in another question: is it true what they say that with this being "an upgrade to the Galaxy S" and only available on limited markets we don't have to expect much development and selection in custom ROMs?
I am considering either this, or a Motorola Atrix 4G and I really don't know what to choose...
I actually like it's design, it's somewhat like a mix between the S2 and Galaxy Nexus, more like a baby Nexus.
anyways this phone has great potential as it beats the galaxy R (see benchmarks at gsmarena)
I don't think that it'll get much attention by devs. It's not that the phone's slow, but there won't be as many users as other Galaxy S phones have. You can see what happened to S Plus: it's faster than the Galaxy S, but not even supported by Cyanogenmod, with a very small community. The simple reason why the Galaxy S has more users now than the advanced one will ever have, is that the S once was the best phone out and many people bought it. The Plus and Advanced aren't. They get 1/2 cores when already 2/4 are standard.
LOL i just bought the device it's real smooth was playing some hd games and the performance is really good, the mali 400mp is doing its job just fine and multitasking is pretty good
I don't know about Germany but this device seems to be getting quite popular here in India

I just looked on amazon - for 40€ more you get the S2. IMO it would be the better choice. More RAM, faster, awesome cam. Why didn't you buy it?
I will rather buy S2. I learn my lesson with i9001.
In Croatia "S Advance" is on T-Mobile more than 200£ cheaper SII, therefor I don't see a reason not to buy it, except that it probably will not get much attention from developers.

there's quite a big difference in the price between the advance and the S2, so i chose the Advance over the S2. (and also i liked its nexus like curve, the curved display looks really cool)
Anyways the phone is performing well, for the first time i could play GTA 3 (v1.3) with full graphics without any lags.
and now have started enjoying gaming.
I don't regret buying this phone, maybe when samsung releases ics for the phone it will perform similar to the S2

Nah, if you get past 300€, 40€ aren't a big difference. With the S2, you can replace your cam with the phone, with Advanced you can't take usefull pics. And just look at the awesome dev support. I think Sammy only released the Advanced because of the big critic, that none of the Galaxy S devices gets ICS. Now they can say 'upgrade to advanced' and make money with their bad support. But in the end it's your decision .
I know S2 is a better device but i still liked the look of the Advance, and was quite curious about the new NovaThor chipset
and btw there ain't no news of ICS for the galaxy Advance (I'm starting to worry now )
The phone seems to have some very nice motion controls (like when you double tap on the top of the phone it activates voice search, and the tilt to zoom function)
I'm confused between s advanced and Xperia arc S (both of them at same price ) but i'm scared to get s advance duo to lake of support/deve so what do u think about that nail16??
Xperia Arc S has the same configuration as the galaxy s plus so it's a single core device and has a adreno 205 (the gpu kinda sucks)
I say go for the Advance don't worry about the dev support, it seems to be a powerful phone it will soon be recognized by the devs
Ihope so =D
Theres No XDA support for the phone. So its a big no actually !!
In india also its not that famous :O..!!
Great phone,
you can buy it closed eyes

Thanks in advance reply me guys
Sent from my GT-S5360 using Tapatalk
The gpu on the S+ is the adreno 205, which is not as good as the gpu on the S. however, android games are hardly properly optimised for their gpus. Instead, android games are usually ports of ios games so what matters more is ram. That's why an iPhone 4 can play nova 3 better than a galaxy s2 despite the latter having a better gpu and better overall specs, including ram. So, since the S+ has more ram than the S, it is definitely better for gaming. Also, as it uses adreno205, you wouldn't need to use chainfire's plugin very often since most games are first made for the Xperia play, which also uses adreno.

i have LG optimus P920 3D
i want to buy LG 4X P880

so ULP geforce = powerVR SGX540 ??? or faster???
does it lag or freeze if i run many things like playing a heavy game while running music??
i saw a post here someone complain of low RAM ?? is that true??
so please people kindly post your opinions about that phone ( good things ,bad things or any opinion)

Im not heavy gamer, but
From my experience this phone has bad performance on heavy tasks - because CPU can become VERY hot and on stock rom and kernel there is ridiculous cpu temperature threshold.
Of course you can install some custom roms and kernels - which makes things little bit better.
Sry, but every people that say 1 GB of Ram is small is a idiot.
I have the phone with CM 10.1 and currently Kholk kernel.
Its very smooth, battery saved and the tunned screen colors kills me <3
I have played NOVA 3 and on this kernel its hasnt got lag.
When you buy this phone. (And would like have warranty and a smooth phone then)
1.Root it
2.Delete all Bloatware
When you like flash a stock ROM like (Zaiben)
When for you warranty its not important then.
1.Unlock the Bootloader
2. root it
3.Flash CWM
4. Flash CM 10.1
5. flash a custom kernel the you like.
And you will have a super smooth phone ( Thousand times better than S3)
LG 4X HD - Better than a Smartphone
Buy it, its a great phone for the money, handles all games and that kind of **** good. Personally i stay with stock lg firmware, like it more than cm.

For what i think , its a really good phone rated at a affordable price. You get all the extras a top android phone needs + expendable storage and removable battery ,which Nexus 4 doesnt have. I upgraded from an EVO 3D and i dont regret it. Its a good choice ,buy it.
thank you all for your opinions
i actually like LG nexus 4....adreno 320 gpu....2 gb ram ....latest "up to date" android version.... IPS+ screen
the only thing i hate most about Nexus 4 is the back.home and menu buttons within the screen which make the screen smaller than 4.7 AND the non-removable battery because i am a heavy mobile gamer i like to have a spare battery i don't care about card slot i don't need more than 16 gb storage
BUT 4X HD has wider screen and removable battery .... and the Tegra3 effects in games are really amazing
Antutu benchmark : LG Nexus 4.... 18096
LG 4X HD .....14297
i am really confused
http://www.antutu.com/view.shtml?id=2940
http://www.antutu.com/view.shtml?id=261
I am too deciding between nexus 4 and 4x hd.
In my country I can find 4x hd for 240 eur. Nexus 4 16gb is 320eur so I don't know does nexus 4 really worth 80 eur more.
The benchmark are not really representative! And many people get more than 15000 with Antutu
The N4 has last Google updates but now that we have the official CyanogenMod support we'll have Android 4.3 and also probably 5.0 Key Lime Pie.
We do not have as many roms and kernel as the N4 but we have the better one and great kernels. and you won't get lost with hundreds roms in the O4X forums
I'm using Jellybeer + Iodak v006 and my phone is absolutely smooth, I can play all games I want without any lags and i do not have that persistant navbar under the screen.
Also I think that the O4X is much more beautiful than the N4 but that's a personal opinion.

If you live in any of the 8 countries where there is google play store, then the nexus 4 would be pretty cheap, but for its lack of a microSD card and no removable battery, expect a maximum life of 2 years because of the battery. Not having a microSD also has the problem of that you cant store any data, dunno if it is possible post android 4.0 to port apps to the sdcard(Damn you google).
My advice, wait for the S4 to lose in price or wait for the optimus G2. Lg products have a tendency to lose value pretty fast if you are willing to wait for more than 6 months.
If not, and money is the issue, get this phone. I dont know about gaming, but the screen is good and you can root it to remove bloatware.
Get an S3 if you want an AMOLED screen.
I'd recommend it to anyone who asks on xda-developers. The phone is great, but the LG stock software could have issues with battery draining, laggy (maybe more maybe less).
You are asking on xda-developers, so you are likely open to tweak your phone (ROM/Kernel) and most of the issues have been corrected by the community.
So yes, i'd buy it again. Display, Design, Speed are the main pros, battery is also ok - 3 hours screen on time should be obtainable so it's 1d normal use.
thank you all for your answers

Im sure you wont regret buying it, it will also become clear for you from taking a look at the approperiate forums here or elsewhere to see how the dev community are treating it too.. Absolutely not like the 4X HD - has much smaller amount of devs which are developing software/mods for it.

I have the GS3, before it I had the 4XHD and I can say that GS3 is better, a thousand times better (camera, performance, design, battery, a lot of ROMS for it....)

Let me remind you that you are on the O4X forum, if you want to talk about two other devices go on their forum!

Sudden death, oh my troubles were far away when it was yesterday.
Suuudden death oh suudden death.
How far can somebody go and exaggerate that the S3 is 1000 better. If it was 1000 times better, it would not have a restarting bug, SDS, non-Standard MHL port and pentile OLED.
Its a "Should I buy it " thread, not "OMG this is the best thing since sliced bread thread"

Go ask that in the General Discussion, not in the LG 4X subforum. The last thing I want to read about is somebody writing about the Nexus or the S3 in a LG sub forum.
I hate these Nexus-Samsung fanboys more than apple fanboys.
