Hi there
Excuse my English translator
Thank you so much for all the information shared.
I'm a beginner, some time ago I received my Nook hd plus and I am wanting to be configured to allow unknown sources.
Following the LeapinLar post on this subject:
[CWM / ROOT / UNKNOWN SOURCES] HD / HDPlus Stock Root / other Mods - via CWM flashable zips
I'm going to point 3:
3 Enabling Unknown Sources -. (Rev0 - 09/08/2013) (formerly the Extras zip)
download the necessary file:
NookHD-HDPlus-stock-enable-Unknown-Sources-rev0-(08/09/13). Zip
and...
before and after starting the process I prefer to try to resolve some unknowns:
1.
"You will need To Have booted and set-up stock before flashing this zip."
Click to collapse
Excuse my ignorance but what exactly does "have booted" and "set up stock," which is what I should do before installing the file. It is enough to have a bootable SD with CMW and place the file in? Besides changing anything in the configuration of the tablet?
2. The other question is whether this process is reversible to allow unknown sources or have other consequences?.
Thank you in advance!
PS: I hope I have managed to explain this poor English
What that means is you must have turned on the Nook at least once and gone through the process of registering with B&N. In other words, the Nook cannot be brand new and unused.
The process is not normally reversible but there is no need for it to be. However if you "erase and deregister" in settings that does wipe everything including the unknown sources setting.

Thanks for the quick response
Other questions:
- To this I can use any version of CWM or have to be a specific.
- CMW version you use should always use it if I wanted to root or install a room?
- Or you can upgrade easily CMW, if necessary?
Thanks again!
Forgot to say, I ask about the version of CMW because now I have a version EMMC CWM-based recovery v6.0.4.6 to install CM11, but to leave for lack of time.
I could use this CWM or perhaps have a specific modification for the installation of CM11.
Excuse my ignorance, maybe I'm asking something obvious. If you have to use one of those in your post, which would be in this case?
Thanks and thanks

You do not need to flash the unknown sources zip if you are going to run CM. It is only to be used on stock (the operating system that the Nook comes with).
And that 6046 version of CWM is only to be used with CM11 and the gapps zip that goes with it. All other zips require an older version of CWM.

Thanks again ...
For the moment I will not install CM11. I need to study more how the whole proces. Although I have some time reading many things still do not know
So, excuse my ignorance again, so I am unsure which of the CMW listings should use. I can use a Sandisk 8Gb?:
- NookHDplus-bootable-CWM-6028-for-stock-4GB-rev4-(5/15/13) zip -. [Click for QR Code] (9.36 MB, 34626 views)
is only for 4Gb SD?
- NookHDplus-bootable-CWM-6028-stock-for-small-rev4-(5/15/13) zip -. [Click for QR Code] (5.81 MB, 7789 views)
under 4Gb SD?
- NookHDplus-bootable-CWM-6028-for-stock-BOOTFILES-r4-(5/15/13) rar -. [Click for QR Code] (5.64 MB, 17466 views)
??? in which cases?
- NookHD-bootable-CWM-6027-for-emmc-stock-BOOTFILES-r3-(2/13/13) rar -. [Click for QR Code] (5.34 MB, 6373 views)
??? another version of the above?
Thank you!
If you have an HD+ (the 9" one) then you need the 6028 BOOTFILES one. Notice the HDplus and just HD in the names. Follow the procedure in paragraph 1a in the thread. And yes the SanDisk 8GB is good.

Thanks for the super fast reply
Finally, I am abusing your kindness
I made a backup with another version of CMW v6.0.4.6. Now, before using the correct version of CMW 6028 I'll do another backup. I guess they are not interchangeable, right? If one day I'll have to restore each backup using the corresponding version of CMW? Or maybe the backups use some standard format?
Thank you so much!

Have NC rooted (thecube Monster Root) w/eclair. Want to install new CWM to eMMC but have yet to find thread on this. Anyone seen such a thread?
Well the way I did it was I got Rom Manager from the market, then hit the flash clockwork option. My B&N software version before I rooted was 1.1 so I had to update CWM to 3.0.1 so that it would actually work right, there's a thread in the development section if you need to do that too. I don't know if this is the quickest or best way to get it done, but it worked for me.
Read the threads on CWM 3.x...
It doesn't install correctly from ROM Manager, and if you do it that way it won't work correctly when making and restoring ext4 backups (big blue text in the link below).

Yes, specifically, you need a microSD card, but it is easy after that. From the thread referenced above:
Yes it can and it just took the right man to create the update.zip that updates CWM. Thanks to MrMuffin there is one now.
cwmr_3.0.1.0.zip - md5: d7a550d683e54732bcb55eff24ada704
Place onto your sdcard and flash like you would a rom and reboot back into recovery! Please give MrMuffin thanks if you find this useful!
Worked for me first time.

I activate adb on my nook hd+ and my computer keeps making the 'connect' and 'disconnect' noise over and over and over. I read somewhere someone else had this problem, and I wan't to root my nook but I think this might be a problem. (I read a guide to install a driver, but I can't find my nook tablet when Adb is activated..

Getting USB ADB to work on these devices is very difficult. Fortunately, you do not have to use ADB to root anymore. Go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature to see how to root with a bootable CWM card.

The problem with you're guide is they aren't exactly user Friendly, if you get what I mean. lol..
Like for one, what files would I need to install On my sd card, and what programs required on my pc.. I mean I need clockwork mod on sd card? theres 3 of them, and how exactly would the universal root work with that. I'v been trying to root my nook for 3 months now.... sad, ikr..
(I would love a description that goes step by step. example) Because 'Just add the files onto sd card and plug into Nook tablet-..' sounds Too good to be true..
Step 1: Place sd card into pc.
Step 2: etc.
Step 3: etc
Step 4: Done!
(Though you're methods are great for those who have experience with that stuff. too much writing to make sense of.)
So if you could just explain shortly what I have to do (I'm a beginer..) I would love you *_* master..

I'm not sure what is not user friendly. The very first sentence in the instructions says you need to make a CWM card. How much clearer do I have to make it? I have it step by step, but I don't have numbers. I tell you exactly what software you need and there are only two versions of each image file for your device. (Look closely at the names, HD vs HDplus).
And I have directions on how to operate the software. And I have directions on which zip files to use. I am not sure why you cannot follow the directions. I made it as simple as I can.
I am tired of hand holding for folks that cannot read and follow directions. You DO need to read carefully though. It is not a cookbook.

And I looked, the only reference towards cwm involving rooting my nook was this:
Rooting the HD/HD+
Rooting is now very easy using CWM in the referenced thread above. If you want to use the older manual method, click on the "show content" button below. But be warned these older methods no longer work on version 2.0.5 or newer.
The other one was just to backup stuff.

I don't think you appreciate how much work I put into making these directions simple. And for someone to call them not user friendly is offensive to me. It is obvious to me now that you did not even try to read these. You just saw how long it was and had no numbered steps like a cookbook and you gave up. Everything you need to know is in one section (clockworkmod) and is step by step.
Go try using ADB again if you don't want to follow my hard work. I guarantee you, you will not get it rooted. And if you can't read simple paragraphs you should not be rooting your device anyway. You will just end up resetting it.
Edit: Now I see your problem. You were looking at my HD/HD+ tips thread, not my HD/HD+ CWM thread. Go look at the thread I originally told you to look at!

And I can't see what you wan't me to do with it, extract it into the sd card and add the universal root to the sd card too?

Forget reading the universal root section. That is gravy. Read and follow the clockworkmod section. It is step by step and everything you need.
Edit: I just modified my OP in that thread to tell impatient readers not to start reading with the Universal Root section, but to read the CWM section. Let me know if you cannot read and understand that section. I want to make it so even the most impatient reader can get through that.

It is normal to take 10 minutes or more (my instructions said that) but win32 should be showing you progress on the progress bar. And win32 does lock the SD so you cannot access it with windows explorer while it is burning.
If you are not getting a progress bar, something is wrong. Try again.

I'm using the small file, So I can't see how that#s so. Also i got an error or something about my sd card in the slot from the program, when i click diagnosis it does nothing, and i just clicked continue to flash the file into the sd card. so I ended up having it running for 30 minutes and nothing happened. :/ sad.. I'm using a micro sd card which can be plugged into a normal size sd card. if that makes any difference.

Using an SD adapter is ok, but using your PCs built in sd card reader is not ok. If you got an error message from the program you should not have continued until you resolved the error. What was the error?

Leapinlar, your patience is truly amazing. You should add the above in bold red letters at the top of your instructions! It's so true. If someone doesn't want to take a few minutes to read and comprehend what they are doing to their device, then they don't need to mess with it.

Agreed, everything works perfectly if you read and follow the directions. Getting CM10.1 on my Nook HD was honestly one of the least painful experiences on any device i have messed with. And thats thanks to the work of others and their directions. I had the same problem as the OP, and i think it was Leaninlar that gave directions to fix the problem.... been great ever since!
At last we have the 4.10.708.1 Sense 6.0 update for the HK version.
Unfortunately, this release appears to have some problems with the gallery and blinkfeed apps. For the best results, I recommend installing the previous version (3.06, linked below in this post) and applying the OTA update yourself.
Without further ado, here are the links!
Download link:
http://heh.sk/~johnny64/901S/dlxpul_stock_4.10.708.1_CL344680_release-keys.zip (MD5)
If you are S-ON, after installing the ROM, you also have to unpack boot.img from the zip and flash it using fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Verified to install without a problem on an S-OFF phone using the recovery built by @kairi_zeroblade in this thread.
For each of the available OTA updates, you can also find the actual OTA package, the firmware included within and the stock recovery for that version. If you want to flash the whole firmware package (including recovery, radio, kernel/boot and many other things), just grab the appropriate firmware.zip, rename it to PO68IMG.zip, put it into the root of your external SD card and reboot your phone into the bootloader – the update will be applied automatically.
URL: http://heh.sk/~johnny64/901S/OTA/
Old versions below.
Here's the 3.06.708.3 KitKat 4.4.2 update.
Before installing, take a moment to read this. This update introduces extended filesystem capability flags and SELinux labels. The installer in this ZIP tries to set them in the same way as the OTA update does, but in TWRP this fails, because the recovery doesn't have support for these kinds of metadata. However, setting the medatada is done as the last step, so even if it fails and the installation aborts, the ROM is still installed properly, just without this extra bit.
I repeat:
Read the installer messages. If it says "Done!" and fails afterwards, the installation is complete. If it fails before printing the message "Done!", then the installation is not OK.
The latest CWM Touch should give the best results, although I haven't tried installing it through CWM.
If you are S-ON, after installing the ROM, you also have to unpack boot.img from the zip and flash it using fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Download link:
http://heh.sk/~johnny64/901S/dlxpul_stock_3.06.708.3_CL315079_release-keys_SELinux.zip (MD5)
@Zarboz also made a ZIP of this version of the stock ROM, I'm told it contains some flavor of Superuser preinstalled:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8I81hbg3bIwOWNlZHBMUy1tanc/edit?usp=sharing
-----------------------
Just before Christmas we have a new stock ROM with Android 4.3 and Sense 5.5 available. Same as with previous version, the installer contains all preload apps, in addition, it also contains the HTC Notes app, otherwise it leaves /data as it is, so in case something does not work, remember to wipe data before installing.
Download link:
http://heh.sk/~johnny64/901S/dlxpul_signed_stock_2.21.708.1_CL288207_release-keys.zip (MD5)
-----------------------
This is an image of the stock ROM after installing the 1.23.708.3 OTA update. The installer also contains all preload applications (Flashlight, Calculator, PDF viewer and others). Other than installing / updating all preload apps, the package doesn't touch /data in any other way. If you need to wipe your data partition, do it before installing this ROM, otherwise you'll wipe your freshly-installed preload applications. (Note that some of them have been updated in the OTA, which means they differ from the APKs I posted separately.) Does not contain the Notes OTA update, it should ask after first boot.
Here's the download link:
http://heh.sk/~johnny64/901S/dlxpul_signed_stock_1.23.708.3_CL241753_release-keys.zip (MD5)
-----------------------
Made from a dump taken from my 901S just after unlocking the bootloader, pure preinstalled stock ROM, no root, no mods of any kind. Only contains /system and kernel+initrd, doesn't touch /data, /cache or anything else. If you want a clean state, wipe your phone before or after installing.
Download:
http://heh.sk/~johnny64/901S/dlxpul_signed_stock_1.11.708.1_CL215607_release-keys.zip (MD5 here)
The ROM is also available as a TWRP backup:
http://heh.sk/~johnny64/901S/stock-901s-twrp-backup.tar (MD5 here)
For those interested, I also made a backup of the original internal storage ("sdcard") before unlocking which is available here (MD5). It should be pretty close to the original state, though I did run a few apps there to get a feeling of the device.
Last but not least, there were certain applications preinstalled in the /data partition which gets erased completely when unlocking. I managed to find out which ones they were and back up their APKs. The APKs are located at http://heh.sk/~johnny64/901S/preload/. To install them, create the directory /data/preload on your device and push the APKs in there using adb or something. The apps should appear after a reboot. Most of them are probably not very interesting (since they are for news from the HK area), I was mostly interested in the calculator, flashlight and PDF viewer, but I backed them all up anyway, so suit yourselves.

Well, the file is a tar archive. You have to extract it into TWRP/BACKUPS/<your phone's serial number>. The backup itself consists of multiple files, I just made a single archive for easier downloading.

I don't really understand your question, but I'll try again and slower this time. (-;
First, extract the archive on your phone, any decent file manager app should be able to do that. You'll notice the archive contains one directory named 2013-08-22--21-11-59. This directory contains a bunch of files.
Next, look up your phone's serial number in settings -> about -> phone identity. Navigate into TWRP/BACKUPS on your SD card and check if there's a directory with the same name as your serial number. If there's no such directory, create it.
Finally, move the 2013-08-22--21-11-59 directory into the one you just created.

Finally, move the 2013-08-22--21-11-59 directory into the one you just created.

Okay, now I don't understand your question. Did you try to restore the backup and it failed with an error? If that's the case, then I'm afraid I won't be able to help you. Anyway, you might want to post the exact error message you're getting in case someone else would be able to help you out.

It is hosted on a Raspberry Pi sitting on a shelf in my campus room. It should have 100 mbit connectivity. I noticed in the HTTP server logs that a lot of people are using downloaders which open more than 20 connections in parallel, some go even as high as 50. Since it is a really weak machine, I limited it to 5 parallel connections. If you're trying to download with such a tool, try to crank it down a little bit.

this is my stock recovery... I got it after s-off in a specialized center.
I was looking into the CWM thread regarding the matter and didn't see anything referring to the most recent stock firmware. I'm wondering if the process detailed will even work right, and whether the
"File Type: zip NookHD-HDplus-stock-enable-Unknown-Sources-rev0-(09.08.13).zip - [Click for QR Code] (727.9 KB, 7194 views)"
download would be the one I need.

You need to follow the steps to make a bootable CWM SD in section 1a of my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature. From looking at your screen shot, you are just copying the whole files to your SD. You need to follow the guide. Specifically you must unarchive (extract) the BOOTFILES rar file and follow the steps to make the bootable CWM SD. Once you make the CWM SD, you only need one file, the enable unknown sources zip. You do not need the rest of those files.

Hello all,
This is my first question, and it might have already been answered but I just couldn't figure it out My last resort is to ask here, so thanks in advance for your help.
I just installed CM11 on my Nook HD (see attached image 1) and everything was working fine except for the fact that google apps was opening and then closing immediately. All my pre-CM11 apps were there and working fine. The problem was that when I tried to download new apps, GAPPs was just not working. I wiped out all the info and started from scracth, then tried to install from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942 , but just kept on getting error messages (see image 2).
I'm sure my fix is easy, so any suggestions are more than welcome!
Your picture is cut off so it does not show what version of CWM you are trying to flash the gapps package with. What version is it?
It is saying it cannot find the file /system/build.prop. Can you see that file with your file manager?

Hi,
I hope I'm answering properly. I believe the CWM version i'm using is 20140629. I did not find the /system/build.prop file under the file manager, but I was able to navigate to it through the terminal emulator. It's a read-only file.
If this is not the information you were asking for, please let me know and I will get it right away.
Thanks!
That is not what I was looking for for CWM. When CWM is running it says something like "CWM based recovery version 6.0.4.5" at the top of the screen. What does yours say?

Right, thanks for clarifying. It says:
CWM-based Recovery for HD SD CM11.0/sgt7 v6.0.4.5
Hope that helps.
Thanks!
Hey,
Thanks again for the follow up. I was able to figure it out. Every time I was booting up the recovery menu I did it from the SD card instead of the internal memory by holding down the n key. After I did it that way, the gapps package installed with no prob at all. Thanks so much for the effort and we can mark this question solved.
Cheers!
