[Q] Manually Update Libart.so? - Moto X Q&A

Is it possible to manually replace/update the current libart.so file on the Moto X (rooted, running 4.4.2)? Some of us can't upgrade to the latest kitkat release, and I'm assuming that there have been updates to libart.
Even better, would it be possible to replace it with the latest build?

5.1 Upgrade from 5.0.2

I have a unlocked Moto X running 5.0.2 which never received the 5.1 or 5.1.1 update. I tried to upgrade it manually using a 5.1 OTA file but it does not work because the file is looking for a 4.4.4 to upgrade from. Does anyone have an OTA file for upgrade to 5.1 from 5.0.2?

Can I upgrade to 5.1.1 or 6.0 and keep root?

I'm on 5.0 currently with root. Just checking if it's currently possible to keep root, and upgrade to a newer version.
Maybe. If you have the G900A, you can try here. I don't know about the G870A, though.
I think the last upgrade that was able to keep root was 5.0 build OF3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-update-to-g900aof2-5-0-keeproot-t3149146
Everything else after that have been unrooted stock roms that at least maintained the ability to rollback. The stock OTA updates of the newer version block you from rolling back to old versions.

OTA Update Option Missing in settings

Hi,
I've just bought another Z2 pro and have been trying to update it the latest MM version which I believe is 2.3.044 but can not find the update option in the settings.
It is still on stock with with locked bootloader.I want to update before unlocking the bootloader then on to Lineage 13.
The current ROM version is 2.1.120 with November Security patch.
Edit:
I used the SD update method but it half bricked the phone.
Then used the QPST/QFIL one.Flashed the 2.1 stock rom.Once rebooted the Update option was there. Without the need for VPN it OTA updated to 2.3...
Big thanks to this guy.

Hello
I just bought the z2 Pro and same issue, no update in the settings. I followed your steps but wondering. Is the 2.1 you downloaded international? Do you have Google apps in it? I don't want to root, just want an updatable official international rom...
Thanks!
As far as I know non of "store"multilanguage roms have an update option. In order to get it you have to flash stock (1.9) one and follows OTAs from there.

AT&T MM current status...?

Hi everyone,
Just got a used S5 from ebay and it's a carrier unlocked AT&T model (I'm in the UK). I've successfully upgraded to Marshmallow using Odin and was looking at root options. I've done some looking around the forums and just wanted to check if I was understanding the situation properly:
1) Are the AT&T models impossible to bootloader unlock?
2) If this is true then I guess any ROMs other than stock based are out of the question?
3) Is it not possible to have root on MM? Is this just because it hasn't been done yet, or is there something inherent in MM that makes it impossible?
4) Therefore, it's only possible to have rooted s5 on LP? And only ROMS based on LP are available?
Thanks in advance !
How did you update the firmware, since i'm having an AT&T S5 with 5.1.1 on it (G900AUCU4COI5), and when searching for updates it's always telling me that there are no updates available, although i'm sure that there are at least 10 mini-patches and patches (5.1.1 -> 6.0).
@tooplanx
Your assumptions are correct. There is an encryption key that has the bootloader locked down and only the carrier can release it. Most Samsung US variants are notorious for this. So yes only stock ROM or a 5.0 based custom ROM is available. Root could be possible through a security exploit on MM (especially since its security patches are now 6 months out of date) but I don't think any developers are working on it that I know of as most of them have moved onto other devices and variants. So at this time yes it is only possible to have root on 5.0.
@Cornul11
Are you using a working AT&T sim card when checking for the update? It won't appear when using another network.

Unless you have an AT&T working sim, you will need to install the upgrade with some software called 'Odin' and the manually downloaded stock 6.0 ROM for the G900A. Kies doesn't work either.
Have a look for 'Odin upgrade' in these forums, it should be easy enough to find.

I don't have an AT&T sim card, so no updates were being shown as available for me. I downloaded the firmware and installed it using ODIN, now i have the latest available version which is G900AUCS4DQD1 (6.0.1).

Sprint Z3 Play 9.0 OTA update sent to phone 7/7/19

Hi, I have the Sprint variant Z3 Play currently rooted on 8.1 with the last update from January and I received the notification that the 9.0 update is available to download and install. I've been reading on how I can install this update but from what I understand, I have to update/re-install magisk using the patched boot IMG from the stock 9.0 IMG. The OTA is labeled PCW29.85-36 however all the stock firmwares I've been able to locate are labeled PPW29.xx. Can I extract the boot IMG from this firmware to patch or does it have to be the exact PCW firmware. And is there an alternative such as unrooting the device, reflashing the latest Current Sprint 8.1 Oreo firmware, taking it back to stock while keeping the bootloader unlocked, and then taking the OTA and re-root? My only reason for the root was to run Viper4Android and would like to keep this setup. I've also read on methods using LMSA but instructions on a rooted device are a little vague to me. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
