Left side touch screen misbehaving after wet - HTC Incredible S

Hi,
Last week I used to be outside with much rainy condition.
Though it never got totally under water, many times it's screen got wet with substantial rain drops.
Slowly, phone started misbehaving with following symptoms,
1. Around 10% of left side of touch screen doesn't show response. I enabled show touches from developer option and when I try to touch left side, say "a" letter in keyboard, it doesn't show touches and pointer jumps immediately to left edge.
2. Many times, I am not able to unlock phone as no touch are detected.
3. After unlock, many times though I am not touching phone, it shows couple of pointers (I enabled show touches in developer option to trace this) on left edge. It keeps moving resulting in erratic behavior, say screen zooms in and out, some icons clicked automatic, deleted automatic etc.
4. Sometimes I noticed that capacitive buttons are also not responding.
For all above, I have to off (not complete switch off)and on the phone. After few attempts, it becomes responding except point 1 above.
I have reflashed ROM (Vivikat) just to ensure it's not software issue.
Now it seems hardware issue with following two possibilities...
1. It's matter of some moisture in phone only. I have to try hard to dry out all moisture and phone will become responding.
2. Digitizer has some issue and may call for replacement (I don't want to do that...:crying.
Can you guys share your views/experience and advise?

I just had touch screen issues but not with water or rain. It was the CPU. Almost whenever I overclocked it, I had touch screen issues. Both misbehaving and not behaving at all. Change the CPU frequency and restart the phone and see what happens. :good:

Thanks for your reply.
I have never overclocked my device.
However, I tried to underclocked it if by any chance, it can solve the issue.
But issue still there.
A small portion of left column on touch screen seems not responding or giving erratic behavior.
Does, water can damage digitizer to that extent that can not be recovered even after drying
Or, I should keep hope and wait more before I go for digitizer replacement

If the digitizer is damaged, it is probably done. But if you can open the open, check the digitizer and see if there are any things stuck on it. My recommendation: ask an engineer to open it and clean it with the special spray they use to clean electronic parts. Maybe the water has had only a side effect and it will be fixed by cleaning the digitizer.

I loved to hear your words, as I have still hope for resolving issue without replacement of digitizer :fingers-crossed:
I'll find some engineer to get it serviced....and post update.

Screen Alignment Problem URGENT

I just replaced a screen in a Trinity (Dopod D810). The touchscreen initially wasn't calibrated correctly so I ran the alignment tool in the settings, and after a few attempts, I calibrated it properly and the touchscreen was working perfectly. Now the touchscreen is not working properly. The top half of the screen responds to touch, but no matter where I press in that region, the screen thinks I'm pressing the top-right corner. When I run the alignment again, it responds to all the touchpoints but it never successfully calibrates and it keeps bringing me back to the alignment screen.
The current settings in the registry entry for touch calibration are as follows:
484,558 244,286 263,815 750,820 707,295
I've found a few other threads here (the most helpful being http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355010) and I've tried the settings from that thread. The screen seems more responsive, but still not correct because the bottom half hardly responds and the top half seems to respond when it feels like it.
Can someone please post their D810 touchscreen settings so I can try it? I've tried the settings from my Touch Cruise, but the screen is still doing weird things.
This is a customer's phone so I need to have this fixed ASAP.
I'm thinking that it may be a faulty digitizer, but that won't explain why it worked perfectly when I first calibrated it.
UPDATE: NOT FIXED yet, but now the backlight is dead. I just turned it off, and then turned it on again, but I can only see the screen content if I shine a torch onto the screen. The LCD hasn't leaked. The backlight just died and the connectors in the phone are fine. Perhaps this was a dodgy screen.
Any ideas?!
since the device has a recessed screen, take the cover off to get at it.
take a soft cloth or something and clean off all the garbage on the digitizer and back of the plastic. make sure everything around the lcd is free of dirt.
usually, if there is something pushing down on the digitizer while you calibrate it, it will totally bork the alignment over the course of 10 minutes to an hour.
my kaiser is currently having this issue, though i put it though alot more hell then i should have... so i suspect its suffering from other issues.

[Q] Screen sensitivity

I am not sure whether it is my mind playing trick with me or not, but I feel like my phone is less sensitive after I did the hard reset (power+volume down). Sometimes I need to press 2-3 times because the first light tap was not detected.
So is there anyway to increase the sensitivity?
I have the same problem, but no idea that is the hardware or only software problem.....
Fresh owner of this Optimus 2X in France, in our community, frandroid.com, we encounter the same problem , I think this is a software issue.
Did someone already contact LG??
Maybe they should include this into the bug list thread.
May I know were you guys having this problem since it is out of the box? or after reset?
I have the same problem started from day 1 till now
I have the same issue and already thought I'd be the only one having this problem.
I would not say it's a problem with sensitivity, but it feels like the touchscreen goes into some kind of sleepmode where then you need to press a second time, to wake it up.
Continuous touching is no problem. (like when typing rapidly on the keyboard)
This video is not from me, but it shows the problem.
Have a look at 13:28 and 13:37. The reviewer tries to hit the "Ackermann" entry, but the touchscreen does not recognize the touch. At 13:37 the guy has to press another time to get the entry selected.

Yes! The touchscreen is definitely less sensitive than my old HTC Hero, and gets quite frustrating sometimes when a scroll misses the first part of the movement or a click is missed.

just in case, are you guys using 20110218 baseband too?
The same problem here. If I unlock the screen and then tap on any on screen apps, I need to touch again for it to open. Only the first time though, after that it function ok. I think this is a bug and needs to be fixed... I have my pc for double-click.
Yep, count me in. Same problem here. Sometimes screen taps aren't registered. Will do some research later on, but I think it's a software problem. (maybe you have to tap 2x as fast )
Hi,
same problem here!
Potentially a driver issue. A Nexus S user had a similar issue in this thread: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/18431-tuning-driver-to-deal-with-unresponsive-touchscreen/
He managed to tweak the driver and it works fine now. Need to know C++ (I think?) to understand though.

I see, then probably they will fix it on the next update/gingerbread?
Same issue here.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the problem seems to be that the screen has zero tolerance when it comes to tapping and swiping together. If you tap and slide your finger a bit directly after the tap, the tap is ignored. In other words your tap has to be a steady tap when you click on a button or an app. Right on the spot and with no swiping or sliding afterwards. I can't reproduce this on any of my other devices.
Ergo, it seems that the natural tapping I'm used to isn't working on the x2. It seems like I have to adjust my tap. I think that this could in principle be solved with a setting somewhere, because clearly the x2 is capable of registering this in for example a web page.
The great thing of this is that you can safely tap and swipe in the app drawer to scroll up and down or left and right. The downside is that a tap with a little swipe isn't registered at all. I would say that LG has choosen here for a wrong setting.
My personal experience about screen sensivity.. can you confirm if it's the same for your device?
I noticed a strange touch response.. and after some tests, I can say that the touch screen and icons are influenced by the surface where the phone was put!
with the phone in my hands, it's all ok (only sometimes - rare - I need to tap more than once).
If I put the phone over a glass surface (like a glass table) without touching it with both hands, the touch and the icons not respond!! NEVER!
If I put the phone on my scanner the touch screen works ok, but the icons not (or only few and rare taps was detected).!
If I put the phone over my big Onkyo amplifier.. It works like in my hands.. or better!! even without touching with hands.. only with a finger!
Put it back on my glass table.. and all stop working again. If I put a aluminium foil under the phone (between phone and table).. the touch and the icons works again !!
If I put it on the bed.. it don't work.
LG support say that they have tested the phone about this issue after my report.. but no strange response was detected by them. I don't know if they really tested it..
Try it and let me know what you think about!
tested on glass surface, I can press and swipe through pages with a finger without problem.
it is true that my device is not so responsive, but aint reaching that level yet
i read about a similar behaviour on other devices because some devices need a proper grounding for the capacitive screen to work correctly. You can find this problem via google.
Some devices have problem in a car-mounting, for example.
But i think thats not the problem the thread-opener talked about?
Guys I'm looking to get this phone and after reading Engadgets review of the X2 where they mention that the screen is not as sensitive to the touch as other phones I got a bit worried and started googling which lead me here!
Is this true? The screen isn't very sensitive and you have to apply more pressure than other capacitive phones?
I know that the OP is talking about a different issue but I reckon LG will get that sorted out via software update, or at least hope so!
Please do post your experience about the screen sensitivity of the X2 as this is putting me off. I currently have the Motorola Milestone 2 which is very sensitive to the touch even with a screen protector on it.
Cheers

Its a common problem. I had the same. Unfortunately your touch screen is dying. Replace.

Welcome to the club, apparently some people fixed it by warming their phone, putting it in rice, or replacing their digitizer.
i have another kind of problem: sometimes the screen begins it's own life, like somebody quickly touching it (solves with on/off button).
And sometimes i touch it in some point, but it thinks, that i touch it in another.
Disappointing, but not annoying.
well it seems to be working fine now

Got the exact same problem, send it for repair. Apparently they found corrosion in my internals, though I really have no idea how liquid got in there. There is no spillage or any sort happen to my phone.
Oh well that means goodbye to my Milestone and back to stone age for awhile.
I had this same problem a week ago, and it happened all day long. It happened that my screen was wet (don't ask me how, I don't know), and now it's working just fine
Well if your touchscreen are not responding well to your touch, or if you feel that a ghost has been playing around on it (eg. "like somebody quickly touching it"), then it's a symptom that the touchscreen is faulty and it's time to replace the digitizer or buy a new phone
I faced the same problem sometime. In this case, reboot the phone may fix this problem.
If it doesn't work, I think you have to replace the touch screen.

Had one issue like this in 3 months, 1/5th from the top of the screen wouldn't respond anymore, no matter the program. The issue went away after rebooting the phone.
I am facing the ghost touch problem or the right side is not working at all. First time, it started on it's own but last night, while it was connected to the PC the nightmare began. I don't know what the heck should I do, because I don't have money to spend on new digitizer. Last time the problem was solved by letting the phone in a dry place (it wasn't dropped in water or so). I hope this time will work too... BTW, pressing the on/off button seems to fix the issues for ~3-4 seconds. Anyway, Moto sucks .

Are you sure this isn't the flex cable problem?
If it is the flex cable problem, where can be found to buy and replace? Because I am sure that is less expensive than replacing the whole digitizer.
I had the same problem, but it's more than a month that I recharge battery with a Samsung wall charger (700mAh power), it completely desappear.
One week ago I charged the battery with the USB cable and the problem reappear, desappearing only after a reboot.
It's NOT a flex problem for sure, our phone is very susceptible of current variations when charging. If the problem still remains after unplug and reboot, I suggest to try with another battery.

Mi 9T Pro has bad ghost touch issue after screen/digitiser change

Hi everyone!
The phone has bad ghost touch issue after a new screen was installed. And I am not able to pin point the cause.
Sometimes the issue is very bad with ghost touches more frequent with a ghost touches repeating under 1 second, sometimes the touches are much more rare. After the first installation I took the screen off and just reconnected without installing it and it had no ghost touch issues at the time but the issue returned when it was assembled.
Do you have any similar experience or idea what contact/connector/plug might cause the problem?
Thank you in advance!
I have tried to reinstall a full factory ROM but that did not help. The issue exists even on TWRP screen so I guess it must be a hardware problem.
Ghosting is a known issue with this phone. You can find many different solutions, but nearly all of them is about insulation.
The first method: Try to install some insulation under the main speaker. But be aware, if you put too much insulation there, you'll be unable to put back that plastic piece correctly.
The second method: Put some insulation onto the back of the screen like this.
The next two method are my own solutions to this problem, these fixed my ghost touch issues on my second Mi 9T Pro.
Fully assemble your phone, then place it on a completely flat surface with the screen pointing downwards. Now try and push each corner of the phone. It it remains stable, then move to the next idea. But if you feel that the phone is bent, then take a regular hair dryer, heat the phone with it's lowest mode everywhere for 5-10 minutes, then place something heavy on the back of the phone (like an older notebook or a desktop hard drive) until it cools down. Repeat the process if needed, but be careful, too much heat can cause other issues if you're not careful enough.
And the final solution: Remove the glass backplate, and the plastic cover with the main speaker. Then take a look at the bottom left corner of the phone, where you should see a hole in the frame, and some black insulation tape in this cutted hole. Remove that piece of tape, and gently push that orange-yellow circuit against the back of the screen. If it moves too much, you can try to wedge it with a piece of plastic.
I hope one of these solutions will help you to fix your screen. An extra tip for you: If any of these solutions work when the phone is fully assembled, don't try anything else, otherwise you'll risking to make the problem reappear.

I wouldn't recommend hairdryer as without being careful it's easy to damage parts.
Someone, maybe IFIXIT came up with nice suggestion to use hand warmer and heat it with microwave. It's almost ideal solution, as it's not overheating and applies heat everywhere.
Disable three finger screenshots and ghost touch issues will be gone on 5 point touch displays(replacement)

Question Screen will stop responding to touch

I dont know why, but sometimes my screen will stop responding to touch. I can still use the top and bottom of the screen, but the 90% in between the top and bottom lip of the screen wont respond until i restart the phone. This can happen once a week or three time a day, seemingly at random. Anyone know about this problem?
I had this happen the other day and it really surprised me - exactly where you said as well. The top & bottom worked, but the middle was dead. I did have a little skuzz on the phone, so I spat on it & wiped it off and that brought it back to life. Not sure if that was truly the problem, or if it was just coincidence. Which screen protector are you using?

At the moment i dont have a screen protector on, ive had the problem with and without screen protectors. Its so weird, its like the screen just dies.
Hopefully it's just a background app/service and not a hardware issue. I'd try freezing the snot out of background apps - particularly anything that didn't come pre-packaged with the phone - and go from there. Should this work, enable a handful at a time until you find the culprit. Pretty much anything can lock up an app nowadays, particularly keyboards and the like.
Below is my "final" list of frozen apps on a11 and the phone performs exceptionally. No root & no security broken. This is a preset file for ADB AppControl - I hope this helps.
When you say freezing, do you mean adding to deep sleep or removing with adb?

I mean freezing/disabling via adb. I only remove once I'm completely comfortable with a practiced configuration.
