[Q] TWRP Not installing .zip files - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm having a problem trying to flash roms. I have both ViperOne and Android Revolution pushed onto /sdcard.
They show up when I press install on TWRP but after I slide to install, it fails. It shows the following:
Updating partition details...
E: Unable to open zip file.
Error flashing zip '/sdcard/viperone.zip'
Updating partition details...
This is on TWRP v2.7.1.1
Any ideas on what do would be appreciated.
Please note I can't get into normal android system and its currently stuck on a cyanogenmod bootloop.

use twrp 2.6.3.3 to flash arhd.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-botloader
then try to flash arhd or viper again
also check your roms MD5 before flashing them

[Q] Can only access bootloader. Soft brick?

Hey guys,
Today I attempted to root my HTC One. I successfully unlocked it and successfully flashed twrp 2.5 onto my phone. Without creating a backup and after flashing superuser and arhd 11.0 my phone would only boot into bootloader. Then I found I had trouble going back into recovery. I tried reflashing twrp and it worked and led me back into recovery. I was unable to find any of the ROMs I put into the internal memory and I get an error that says I am unable to mount data. I've tried flashing cwm recovery, which only lead to booting into bootloader, and then back to twrp which worked at first, but now I can't get either to work. I've been at this for hours. Hope any of you guys could help me out. Thanks in advance!
Also, I think my problem began by trying to flash arhd 11.0 from stock without doing a full wipe.
Update: Was able to get twrp to work again by clearing cache, but still unable to mount data.
This is an error i see inside twrp.
E : Unable to mount '/data'
E : Unable to recreate /data/media folder.
Updating partition details...
E : Unable to mount '/cache'
E : Unable to mount '/data'
E : Unable to mount internal storage.

Update: SOLVED. Tried flashing Viper Rom and it worked great.
I believe that you install ARHD 11 from a 4.1 based rom, right? If that's the case, moving from 4.1 to 4.2 will mess up your data structure a bit. Because you have flashed arhd 11, all the rom files you had put earlier on 4.1 will be at other folder. My advice is you boot into twrp, open adb sideload (advance menu). On your computer use "adb sideload rom.zip" (rom.zip is the name of the rom you wanna flash). After it loaded the rom to the sd card, reboot to bootloader and you should see a file named sideloaded.zip. flash it. After finish, clear cache and reboot system.
or you can search in media/0
hope it helps

So I should sideload and flash a 4.1 based rom or a 4.2?
I've tried sideloading ARHD 11 and it brings me into the same bootloader loop. Could you send me a link to a ROM that may work?
Here's the steps I am taking if it helps;
1. fastboot erase cache
2. fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
3. go into recovery
4. adb sideload arhd11
5. reboot into recovery
6. flash sideload
7. reboot system
8. gives me a message saying my phone is not rooted would I like to install SuperSU now?
9. regardless of if i put 'do not install' or 'swipe to install' phone reboots into bootloader and I start over with the same problem

Can you access recovery?
If yes, adb push name_of_rom.zip /sdcard/
rom will now be on your sdcard after the transfer. install it.
all roms using aroma installer crash sometimes, just keep trying.
edit: IF you can't find it, select install zip from sideload in recovery and command
adb sideload name_of_rom.zip
after the transfer it will begin to install automatically - you shouldn't need to reboot after a sideload.

Yes, I can access recovery. Just tried this. After flashing ARHD11 again I am still rebooting into bootloader.
Maybe it's just the ROM itself that I'm having trouble with? Could anyone direct me to one that will work for sure in my case?
Also after every flash, when I choose to reboot, twrp gives me a message saying my phone is not rooted and if I should install SuperSU. Should I say yes or not install? or is there a problem with flashing the ROM?

So ARHD goes through and installs (as in gets to 100% in aroma) then reboots to bootloader?

Yes. And the only way to get back into recovery from there is to reflash. I also can't use cwm, I can only use twrp. If that means anything.

[Q] E: Unable to mount '/cache'

I just updated to TWRP 2.6.3.4 on my Sprint HTC One, in order to flash KitKat, and the corrisponding CyanogenMod Nightly's, but in doing so I wiped everything off my phone. So now I can get into TWRP, but have no ROMs to flash... I tried sideloading, which didn't work, so then I just used adb push to get my files into data/media, which worked.
Now Im trying to flash the .zip files for KK and CM11; KK flashes just fine, but when it gets to CM11, it gives me errors like:
Code:
E:Error executing updater binary in zip 'data/media/cm-11-20140129-NIGHTLY-m7spr.zip'
Error Flashing zip '/data/media/cm-11-20140129-NIGHTLY-m7spr.zip'
updating partition details...
E:unable to mount '/cache'
Failed
I've tried flashing KK before CM11, and after CM11; but no matter how I do it, it fails on CM11.
Anyone know whats wrong with my phone? How do I fix this so that it'll flash CM11, or any KK ROM?
Any help would be great, as my phone is useless right now...

2.6.3.0 is the latest version for the sprint htc one at this time. flashing that one should fix it.

Do I need twrp-2.6.3.0-m7ul? or will twrp-2.6.3.0-hltetmo work just as well? It is the only 2.6.3.0 I can find.
Edit: Nevermind, I found 2.6.3.0-m7wls.

Ok I got it all sorted out, thanks a bunch!!!! It all had to do with having the wrong kind of TWRP on here.
If anyone stumbles into this thread with the same problem I had, heres what I had to do, on ubuntu:
1.Install all the android SDK, adb, and fastboot stuff. adb and fastboot both needed me to download stuff when I tried to use them in the terminal, so I just said yes and it worked fine. Fastboot requires you to use "sudo Fastboot".
2.Boot to H-BOOT, and flash TWRP 2.6.3.0 m7wls, which you can get from the TWRP website if you google TWRP 2.6.3.0 HTC One
3. If your ROMs are gone, like mine were, use either sideboot in TWRP, or the "adb push" command in Terminal, to add them back to your storage. I put mine in /data/media. (sideboot never worked for me, adb push was way more reliable.)
4.Flash your Rom and the gapps, and you should be good to go!
The commands are easily googled, but in case you can't find them:
sudo fastboot erase cache
sudo fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-m7wls.img
adb push XXXX.zip /data/media

[EMERGENCY] Unable to install anything from recovery as well as from miflash tool.

My current situation:
->twrp installed
->everything formatted!(sdcard,data etc)
->unable to mount /system error in both cwm/twrp
-> No OS installed
->stock partition
->unable to flash any ROM, yes any custom ROM out there(from sideload or from sdcard) with this error "failed to mount /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system at /system No such file or directory
unmount of /system failed; no such volume"
->Unable to flash MI roms through miflash because of unspecified error (0xffffff01)!
-> hope from you guys.
My mi3 was running on lollipop ivan ROM. everything was ok. I thought lets flash mokee. after flashing mokee and using it for few days(With no gapps, unable to flash) I reverted back to ivan AOSP from my old backup(thank god!).
Crysis started after this point.
I extended the partition from this guid->http://forum.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-3/general/howto-resize-extend-partition-capacity-t3011918
It was successfull. But whenever I tried to flash any rom , it gave me the error mentioned above(failed to mount /dev/block/...)
So I fomatted everything, and reverted the partition changes to stock. But the error was still there, on both cwm/twrp.
So I thought of using miflash method to solve this issue. But miflash is giving unspecified error. Yes, I'm doing everything correctly in miflash method,no space in folder name and etc.But it's giving error.
Now I don't have anything in my phone except twrp. Cant flash AOSP/CM romes because of the error and cannot flash MIUI from meflash. What should I do? Seriously I'm completely broken. Need Help. :crying::crying:
If under warranty take it to the nearest service center. They should fix your phone.
Flash MIUI through recovery method.
dude, flash back to stock partitions and only after u flash that through cwm/twrp (try both if its still not working ) it will work Mi Flash. I experienced the same problem, just kept flashing (cmw/twrp) the stock partition zip and it worked

Xperia SP can't flash original firmware after cyanogenmod failed

Hi guys,
I have xperia sp, where I had a newest firmware installed. I decided to mod it to newest cyanogenmod (android 7.1).
Using night build, install boot.img and using adb install rest of system. Forgot to install gapps, but system ran smoothly.
So i decided to install cyanogen once again, following these steps:
1. fastboot - flash boot.img
2. system clean - wipe /system, /data, /cache (wipe all available from recovery menu)
3. Trying to upload system using adb, by selecting on recovery menu "sideload". ADB failed - mot recognise device
4. Upload system (cyanogenmod) to sd card and trying to update from recovery menu
5. SD card is fully visible, but when trying to update got an error: "E: unable to find /misc partition" (!!!)
6. 3,4,5 I tried many time, unsuccessful
7. Decided to downgrade to original firmware using flashtool.
8. All files *.sin uploaded successfully, except system.sin (size above 1GB)
9. Trying to upload system.sin manually using fastboot, but got the error "(file too large)
Now I have original boot, but phone is locked on "SONY" screen
I need any advice, how to upgrade phone to any system.
btw, I tried all available stock firmwares (254, 205, etc)
best regards
M.
Dunno and not sure but it doesn't cost nothing to try:
with fastboot flash kernel from 7.1 zip package and also flash twrp 3
then try to enter twrp recovery (VOL+ when lights up)
Don't use the latest version of flashtool and use version 0.9.18.6 instead to flash stock firmware

Thanks.,
it helps Previous version of flashtool did it correctly.
Now I have new question related to CM:
after sucessful installation of CM, I back to recovery
1. Copy OpenGAPPS to sdcard
2. Initiate aplly update from sdcard
3. Installation started but
4. Got an error "E: failed to map file"
tried different versions of OpenGAPPS (pino, nano, micro) with the same result.
Should I use recovery image from cyanogenmod?
And next, when I tried to execute:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
got an error:
(bootloader) Flash of partition 'recovery' requested
FAILED (remote: Partition not found)
I need to install open gapps.
best regards
M.M.
Ok, I fixed it
Installed TWRM recovery and install gapps finally.
Thanks for help

I already firgued it out, but tnx for the response.
I bought sd card(didnt have one), did dload method, since normal one approach didnt work i used force update approach(dload moved to sd card, power off, hold vol+ + vol- + power button and it installed) also i needed to flash stock recovery beforehand(so it removes twrp, used fastboot to do it, phone was unlocked, power off connect to PC via usb cable and hold down vol- right away, then flash it through fastboot), it cant do force update with twrp still installed.Once it was done i normally booted to stock rom, phone was no longer unlocked, now i unlocked it flashed twrp and rooted it, everything works just fine.Hope it helps some1 with the same problem.
source: https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10-lite/help/original-service-rom-huawei-p10-lite-t3688097 , there is guide thing for both normal and force update
Thank for the help. It gives me a clue but I am still struggling as the force update approach get stuck at 5%. Thanks anyway.
