well if your bootloader version is 1.44 it won't connect to a PC using windows 8.1. If your hboot is higher than 1.44 it should work fine with win 8.1. Make sure your HTC drivers are installed correctly. When the phone is in bootloader mode, go in the windows devices manager: is the phone listed under "android usb device" --> "My HTC" or does it say something else like "one" ?

re-install the drivers and the android sdk and try again. You should also try using fastboot directly from a linux distro like Ubuntu.

you can download ubuntu for free and use it without installing it on your pc from a usb thumb drive or a cd. Try re-installing the drivers first and the android sdk

[Q] Multitude of problems; What do I do?

I'm aware that there are many forums about these various things but seemingly, no matter what I do, I cannot successfully restore my phone to working order. I just would like it to be stock again. This all came about in the process of trying to un-root my phone. Using TWRP i accidentally deleted my system files, and unfortunately have no back up due to the full wipe. I really am a somewhat uneducated in this realm of knowledge so I apologize ahead of time for that. I immensely appreciate any and all help possible! :fingers-crossed:
The Status of my Phone:
Sprint HTC ONE
Tampered; Unlocked, S=ON
TWRP Recovery
No OS, only have access to Bootloader, Fastboot, and TWRP Recovery
The Status of my PC:
Most recent Sdk file download
Most recent HTC Sync Manager (I think this means i have up to date drivers too?)
Fastboot files are installed.
The Stock rom i'm trying to push/flash/install is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250904
These are My Problems:
Phone cannot be recognized while in fastboot. This cause me to be unable to re-lock the phone.
The command fastboot devices yields no results where as the command ADB devices does detect my phone.
My phone can be detected in recovery, not fastboot.
I have pushed the rom to my phone however upon install attempts from the recovery I simply "Error flashing zip" without any error number or anything.
If other information is needed please ask and I will try to provide it. I'm not sure where to go from here and would really not like having a brick since i have no way to replace the phone until my contract ends .Thanks again everyone, I really do appreciate any help, advice, or information
Try uninstalling HTC Sync, but leave the drivers. Hopefully this will allow fastboot to see your phone. Then run the ruu.

Okay, just did that, and it hasn't seemed to change the issue. Should I try uninstalling all the htc files on the pc and then just find a file of just drivers? Thanks for your help coal.
You're welcome. That might work, but I'm unsure why it didn't work. Are you on Windows 8? There are some special steps you have to do I think. Also, the drivers don't work on the Windows 8.1 preview.

Go to your Device Manager in Control Panel. What does it say under Android Device?
Also, have you tried different ports?
And does it say Fastboot USB?
make sure you dont have windows 8.1
cuz nothing in hboot gets recognized with 8.1

Coal:
I am using windows 8, but it is the latest official release, not 8.1.
Karn:
It does say Fastboot USB in all red text, and i have tried different usb ports. however they are all usb 3 so i don't know if that matters.
In terms of the connecting of my phone is unrecognized and windows say it has malfunctioned. In the control panel under devices my phone is displayed as follows in the picture.
The are special instructions somewhere on XDA for Windows 8. The exclamation tells me that may be the issue. I use Windows 7, so I'm not sure what they are.
Also, I do think people have sometimes had issues with using usb 3 ports, but my old computer doesn't have those, so I can't say personally.

Hi there,
I upgraded to Windows 8.1, adb seems to work fine over USB3, fastboot doesn't seem to work but i believe it is because of the same problem i had on Windows 8 with USB3.
I have to mention that i manually upgraded all the drivers after the upgrade to W8.1, even the USB drivers, so yeah, there should be the problem.
Anything else seems to work ok. Hope this helps

If you tried W8, there is nothing that would impress you in 8.1, is basically just a .1 itteration
I use it because i bought my laptop with Windows, otherwise i would be a Linux-only user, as my favourite game works on Linux under Wine, so yeah...
For Fastboot problems under windows 8.1, try this tutorial > xda thread
It could work well on Windows 8.1 as well.
**In comments section in an external link from the thread, a user stated that he tried the method on Windows 8.1 and works fine, so check there**

I'm on 8.1 and have working adb and fastboot. My laptop has USB 2.0 ports.
I did have an issue where I lost fastboot after flashing a 1.44 hboot. I uninstalled the drivers (be sure to also delete the HTC folder under program files) and reinstalled.
I've win 8.1, adb and fastboot are working fine with all 2.0 usb.
But fastboot doesn't work with a usb 3.0
I've upgraded from win 8 and i didn't update the driver because all are working fine
Well, I can confirm first hand which problems Win8.1 causes with using Fastboot and the HTC ONE:
Had FW 2.24.401.1 on my device, Win 8.1 wouldn't recognize the device in Fastboot mode (enumeration error).
From what I could gather, if Windows 8 is updated to the latest HTC drivers BEFORE upgrading to 8.1, it would still work. Updating your drivers in 8.1 by itself wouldn't work for it.
Apparantly the newer firmwares fix compatibility within 8.1 for fastboot, so I used my laptop with Win7 for S-OFF & SuperCID, upgraded FW and ROM to 3.62.401.1 and now Win 8.1 recognizes Fastboot for the ONE again.
Maybe that'll help you.

Your exactly right. The Dark Hboot (GE) will not work in windows 8.1 with fastboot.
I even went so far as restoring my windows 8 backup to restore fastboot functionality on my PC.
So I did the test last night and flashed the latest firmware 3.62.401.1 (from windows 8) and then reinstalled windows 8.1 and the fastboot driver installed itself and is working fine. I did have to manually update the adb drivers in device manager though.
Now i finally did update to windows 8.1 and i have adb and fastboot working with firmware and rom 3.62.401.1 All i did was updated the drivers and then all was working. ?

After a long night of trial and error I got fastboot working on USB3.0, USB2 no response at all. What did the trick was installing the windows 7 drivers from Intel for USB3 (remove the Microsoft ones).

Windows 8.1 + HTC One

Hello,
I'm having a headache since I upgraded to 8.1. I can see my htc phone without any problem in windows and communicate with ADB. But once I get to recovery or fastboot, the USB will make an error saying it failed enumeration. Because of that, it don't even try to install drivers. What can I do to fix that?
This is using USB 2.0 ports since my board don't have 3.0.
Thanks

Tried, even tried multiple version of HTC Sync (with and without sync installed). I even used own google ADB driver. Problem is, it's not HTC driver problem since the USB Port is having a "Device enumeration failed", which is a USB failure, not a driver failure. Meaning the device cannot be identified, thus can't know what driver should be used. I tried to force it but windows won't let me.
I searched extensively for a fix for this problem and I honestly don't think there is one yet. Eventually I gave up and installed the generic drivers on my old laptop that's still running Windows 7 and was able to adb and fastboot on it just fine. I've found several driver related issues with both Windows 8 and 8.1 so I think I'll be keeping the laptop as a legacy device for awhile just for situations like this!
I had the same problem, ended up using my phone on a Windows 7 PC.

Maybe there's a solution there for you. (I'm on Win 7 so never tried any of it)
I had this at first but as soon as I updated my firmware, the problem went away. Though I have ubuntu on my old laptop which I will keep now for situations like these because when I tried to install an old ruu through rebootRUU, my phone wasn't found anymore after the first flash, but saved it with my laptop.
Burn yourself a Linux (Ubuntu) live CD or install it side by side with windows 8.1.

For fastboot in windows 8.1 you need the 3.62 firmware without a modified hboot. If you have firmware with red text removal or the dark bootloader version then fastboot will not see the device.
You should also download the latest HTC drivers then everything should work.
ah that's why, I have the modified hboot.
As for install linux in side by side or live linux, no thanks, this is not what I'm looking for. I won't install another OS just for that, thus why I'm looking for how to make it work in Windows 8.1, not how to make it work on my computer with any OS.
I have latest HTC drivers, but modified hboot. I hope someone came up with a fix for that because it's very annoying. Good thing I still have one pc on windows 7 and it will stay this way for now since it's the only computer that can see my phone.
I was having the same issues neither the usb 2.0/3.0 worked. But after I installed the latest HTC sync from their website everything works on W8.1
If some one else doesn't I'll post the drivers when my work day is over. So not anytime soon.

Here is the missing USB driver that was not loading correctly before I updated firmware to hboot 1.55. Had to flash that firmware on my old Samsung netbook under Windows 7, after that Windows 8.1 loaded the driver and fastboot works ever since:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/1fvlo16jn81dpf3/HTCDriver_4.8.0.002.exe
You need to download Intel drivers and scrap the windows ones...
Link with instructions in post... : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2510682
this is for usb 3.0, not for usb 2.0. I already checked anyway and intel didn't make any usb driver for my board, they only made 3.0 ones, which my board doesn't have.
Had the same issue, in the end I had to partition my drive and dual boot Windows 7. It's a ***** but I couldn't find a single fix on 8.1 after dicking around with it for 3 days straight.

Is any one able to use fastboot with Windows 8 yet?

It still doesn't recognise my device no matter what I do, done the whole thing people have said of installing a certain driver manually but nothing works. I had to just use an old Windows 7 machine before but now that's gone my only option is Windows 8 :\

nope, tried the guide of changing the inf files for the usb 3 drivers etc but to no avail..even vmware wouldnt work due to the actual hardware still not being able to pass the data on the usb 3 bus

Weird. I just installed the latest htc sync (for the drivers) then un-installed it again. For windows 8, it worked for all bootloaders wheras windows 8.1 only recognised fastboot using hboot 1.55/1.56.
Have you tried removing all drivers which may conflict (google for instructions) , re-installing htc sync drivers, plugging your device into the pc whilst the drivers install then unplugging your device and rebooting the pc.
Of course don't forget to have usb-debugging ticked in developer options.
Maybe it hates Haswell.
Dude it works perfectly well on my Windows 8.1 PC. Its Ivy Bridge though. Have u installed HTC Sync Manager and drivers??

I spent a couple days searching for a solution, including installing unsigned drivers, using intel's usb3 driver, etc. nothing worked. I get a DEVICE FAILED ENUMERATION whether i was on usb 2 or 3 running windows 8.1.
I was lucky enough to have an old laptop lying around that still had windows 7 on it and it worked like a champ. If you don't have one, might be worth trying out a windows7 VM?

Mind you I never actually used "official" driver software from HTC. I just used the manually install/update method where you point to the downloaded driver files.

I'm on Windows 8.1 with HBoot 1.55, its already got ARHD 3.62 on it and adb just wont see my phone. Windows itself does no problem. I have the latest TWRP installed as well as the latest HTC Sync drivrs that it asked me to install when I plugged the phone in.
Is there any other method to get this to work? I only have access to one PC.

[Q] Can't Unlock Bootloader

I am trying to unlock the bootloader of 10 HTC AT&T Vivid's which will then be flashed with CM and sent to Lesotho for mapping purposes. Unfortunately I cannot get past the first step of unlocking the bootloader. The devices are running Android version 4.03. and I am attempting to unlock them using a Windows 8.1 Pro PC, 64 bit.
Like the user in this thread , I have SDK installed, Google USB Driver, Java and HTC Sync.
I have tried the HTC drivers from here and the Google USB driver but I believe the issue may be in how I am installing the drivers. The device is recognised by the PC when it is turned on but not by HTC Sync. Whenever I load the device in fastboot device manager lists it as "Device Failed Enumeration." If I uninstall the driver or try and update to either the HTC driver or Google USB driver in Fastboot mode I am prompted with an error that says folder I have selected "doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device." I am able to update the driver when the device is booted up but it does not seem to work in fastboot mode.
I am really at a loss on how to proceed and what I should try next so any help would greatly appreciated.
Edit 1: I followed the instructions from the Nocturnal Team and installed the Samsung Drivers whilst the phone was switched on. This worked fine and when I typed in adb devices in command prompt my device was recognised. I rebooted into fastboot mode and tried installing the Samsung Drivers again like instructed however I encounter an error. This time it says that "Windows found driver software for you device but encountered an error attempting to install it...This device cannot start (Code 10)."
Typing in adb devices or fastboot devices in command prompt following this still does not return anything. What am I doing wrong and why will windows not recognize my device when it is in fastboot mode?
Edit 2: I plugged the phone into another USB port and have been able to select different drivers, the Samsung ones and HTC drivers. Despite this the device is still not appearing in command prompt when typing in fastboot devices/adb devices. I feel so close yet so far.

Thanks for the quick response. I've tried this reboot method a few times but I still get prompted with the message that says that the folder specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver and to make sure it is designed to work with x64 based systems.
Drivers don't designed to work on OS x64 based, so you need to use an OS x86 if you want drivers to work.
