It means.....
All of our efforts to use OTG USB cables and flash drives with content is now all mute.
Looks like I will have to get a 32GB, just so that I can stream licensed content to the storage of that device from Google Play.
Basically, our fair use rights were trampled further.

I want to know what government task force is going to police this,
Can I take my device to jail with me.. PLEASE....
Where did it talk about OTG? Did I miss something?
Just remember you folks voted for the fools in Congress that did DMCA to us.
Get it revoked - or get a new congressman.
It doesn't mean anything. Unless Google said we couldn't unlock our tablets. Which won't happen. Its why I bought a Google device. Ripping DVDs and putting them on flash drives has never been legal. Again ..doesn't mean anything.

Can't figure out a way to cast YouTube content from an iPad 1st gen since it can't update to ios6 and the YouTube app in the app store won't let me install the latest YouTube unless I have ios6. Anyone else had success with this combination?

Same here. My wife's iPad 1 doesn't cast.
Big time fragmentation issue with Apple products.
and my 2nd gen iPod touch won't update a recent version of iOS and I guess I'm out of luck getting any app updates for it anymore. Thanks for the planned obsolescence guys.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Obviously you will not be able to cast from it since Youtube hasn't supported Chromecast/DIAL since until the last few months and the iPad 1 is using an old Youtube app created by Apple.
So splashtop recently released a new update so you can refer friends to splashtop to get anywhere access pack. Legit?
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
Well if the developers themeselves made that possible in an update, why wouldn't it be legit?
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
What do I need to do in order to get Anywhere Access Pack for free?
LE: I've got it.
Ok I meant, is it a trick as in refer someone and they have to buy it in order for you to use it?
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
@MoshuXXL it's in the new eupdate where when you press the upgrade button there is a box with the word free in the right corner
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
It would be interesting to see if people are still receiving their lifetime anywhere pack?
@yjbeach the catch is one friend for one week

I'm angry I did t keep root granted. But it feels like I'm just out of luck now...
Is there no hope for a 1330 root

I feel your pain.
To be honest, I think the folks in other countries are in a slightly worse boat. At least US users of non-rooted Chromecasts still have all the stock apps including HBO Go and Pandora. Seems like the folks in Canada are having trouble even with those.
If we're lucky there will be a nice Christmas (or pre-Christmas) present from Google...

I'd say that's definitely gonna be the case, especially since Google is conducting their Google Cast SDK "Hackathon" on Dec. 7-8th. I'd say the SDK will be released either at that time or less than a week after. My bet is that it will be officially released immediately following that event though.
Just bought one today and was really disappointed to find out it's not rootable because it's the new firmware. Hoping there's a fix soon..

Yeah. I got one today. Tried to root. No dice. Gave up and just plugged it in the TV. And then the update came. Oh well. Maybe someday.

For the sake of the thread on here about rootable/non-rootable Chromecast's serial numbers, what do y'alls serial numbers look like? i.e. 3901***** , 38*****, etc..

It was a 3A number. I know what the other post said about those, but I'm stubborn ( lol ) and tried it anyway.

Yeah since I'm outside the US and have an unrootable Chromecast I had to buy a new wireless router just so I could use DD-WRT to get around the Chromecast's built-in Google DNS and access the US Netflix library. But on the bright side it's a damn good router even without the Chromecast
Same prob here, I was in a rush to try it out, I forgot to check xda first. The device is currently just lying in the drawer as I hardly use it since I live in Singapore so I got no netflix, just YT lol
Is it possible to play videos on websites based on flash in cc? Or is it possible with root? What i really want to know is do flash videos play? Thanks a bunch.

Yes, if done via the Cast extension for Chrome, but this does on-the-fly transcoding (decode/re-encode) on your computer so it needs some CPU horsepower.
Chromecast cannot natively play Flash, rooted or not.
https://developers.google.com/cast/supported_media_types
Yeah mine was a 3a as well, I didn't even try to root it after reading this. Plus my otg is unpowered. Figured I can look for a older one and just buy another since they are cheap and try again or just hope with the release of sdk....

Hey guys!
Right now i have a nexus 5x and iphone 7 plus.
My Roku appears as a cast mirroring when i use my iphone but not on my nexus 5x, and i read that not all devices are compatible.
If any of you has a Roku, could you please confirm?
Thanks

5X doesn't support miracast. The iPhone does, and I believe Samsung always supports it. I know the 7 supported it and so did the S7E. I will check my S8+ and Note 8 when I get home.

In 4.0(might be 5.0) I believe that was when Google dropped Miracast support in the base code. From that point forward only OEMs that want to support it would have to add the code themselves. Samsung and LG pretty much every device they have added it.

Works perfectly for me.
Just wondering if you've ever used mirroring on Chromecast? Works brilliantly in my experience.
Note 8 has worked on both my Roku 2 and the TCL 55" TV with Roku built in.

I dont have the note yet, but there is a quick setting button, once you click there it appears a list of compatible devices, select one and voila!
Another option is the cast icon, but that only appears on select apps (Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, etc)

On the n8 I just hitsmart view on the drop down and it sees all my Roku. It's not an option that has to be turned on in the Roku itself it should just work
