[Req] Stock recovery for ATT 4.4.2 needed. - Moto X Q&A

I need stock recovery for ATT 4.4.2, 165.44.10 in flashable zip format.
I got my soak test for 4.4.4, but I am on vacation so I don't have a PC to revert back to stock recovery.
Can anyone help me out?

I seriously doubt you'll find that. Instead, (assuming you are rooted), download your choice of "Rashr", or "Flashify" from the market, and use it to flash the stock recovery.img file (attached). I had to zip it because the forum has a 10MB size limit. Just unzip it first and flash with Rashr/Flashify.
Also keep in mind that if you have made any changes to /system (including installing Xposed), the OTA will likely fail to install.
Personally, I wouldn't even consider trying to flash an OTA after having rooted and flashed custom recovery without a PC around. If anything goes wrong you're gonna be up a creek (if you get my drift) with no way to recover.
Good Luck

I signed up and got the email about the soak test, just wondering if they send another email with the update or if it will be an Ota. I just signed up a few days ago so who knows if I will even get one but I'd like to know what to look for thanks.

The roll-out hasn't started yet. The current *best guess* given by 'those in the know' is that it will possibly start tomorrow night. If you signed up for the soak test, you will likely receive it once the test starts.

QQ Sam, will that recovery also work for the T-Mobile GSM Version?
Also after flashing the recovery you need to flash twrp again i`m assuming?

Here is the recovery for the T-Mobile variant. It may be the same - I haven't checked the MD5s.
I'm kinda confused as to why you need it though. The XT1053 has been on 4.4.3 for some time. Unless you are still on 4.4.2, and you want to update to 4.4.3....
The 4.4.4 rollout (or even the soak test) haven't started yet.
Regardless, this is what you need for when it does start. Keep in mind (as your probably already know) that if you have modified /system, the update might fail to install. Remember to uninstall Xposed if you are using that before you update as well.
And finally, yes, after you have successfully taken an OTA, you can simply flash TWRP back again.

So... Do I have the right kernel for Att?

Oh wow! That's interesting....
Every Moto X Kernel I've seen (that was signed w/release keys) thus-far has the "hudsoncm" build. Now I'm really curious what is different about this one...
Or are you unlocked and you flashed a custom kernel?? I bet that's it - are you using "faux" kernel or something??

Yes. The other one pictured by the other member posted does not appear to be stock. My guess is that they flashed a custom kernel at some point.
Yours appears to be the stock.
EDIT: upon further research, both appear to be stock Kernels. I'm wondering if the kernel in the SBF differs from the one in the OTA. That's all I can figure. You would *think* that every phone on the same build, whether updated via OTA or SBF/FXZ would have the same kernel build. Apparently not the case....

Why would it be a deal breaker? Having S-On only means that you have to flash the boot.img manually which takes approx 5 seconds to do. You can still root and flash custom roms etc...

Well, I had a One X for a while and flashing the boot everytime a new rom version was released or changing roms got a bit annoying after a while. I also like being able to flash a rom without being connecting to a PC to fastboot.

Yeah "a bit annoying", that's as far as it goes. As for being a deal breaker, I don't think so.
Some roms don't require you to flash the boot.img manually, such as ARHD
Wasn't there an app that would allow you to flash the boot.img from the phone itself? I think I remember seeing it mentioned on the AT&T HOX boards, but I never used it.
They should stickie the soff issue so users don't need to ask.

Respect his opinion, you have your own view on it and obviously he has another
S-ON and locked bootloader is also what kept me away from this phone, starting on Samsung now and just going to port sense over.
This device can flash boot.img's, kernels, whatever from recovery. Unlike the one x with it's tegra processor. s-off doesn't really give you any benefits EXCEPT being able to downgrade firmware if you choose to do so.

Since this is Qualcom, will the ATT Qualcom One X S-off method be a possibility? Certainly glad its not a tegra..

No sorry. I haven't used it yet, few more weeks to wait for mine. But, with a Qualcomm processor you can flash kernels from recovery just fine. Look at ROMs like renovate for example, everything is from recovery now. I just don't see s off being a have to have thing like it was a couple years back with devices like the dhd. Tho s off could be useful to downgrade software ( flash an old ruu) or to change the unlocked flag back to locked for warranty purposes. Maybe I'll get lucky and get a s off one ** fingers crossed**
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Anybody who wants to flash custom kernels, should know the basic workings of ADB and fastboot. Some devs modify the ramdisk with their kernel, which can cause issues, if you decide to then flash another dev's kernel. A simple fastboot flash boot boot.img, will restore the stock ramdisk and save you a lot of grief.

Well yeah just to get signal back. After I installed viper rom is when i started to get this probelm. Well now you need to unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery, and adb push or adb sideload a rom to get booting.

What are you talking about? The first post ask for an RUU. If it's not what's wanted then so be it. But when did compiling a kernel ever occur in this equation? Do you know how to use HTC dev to find ruu's? It's all in the same spot. Been that way since the website opened. If an ruu exist it will appear in all after search is done.
If a full one isn't there then it isn't there. But it's a good spot to look.

[Q] [Help] Boot Loop using GPE 4.4.4

Hello all, looking for a little guidance.
My symptoms: My phone (non hk, m8) boots and then reboots after about 3-4 seconds. I can't get through the initial set up at all.
I unlocked using the htc dev option, I don't have s-off, I flashed twrp 2.7.1.0,
I flashed the GPE 4.4.4 from within twrp and as per the instructions, followed that up by flashing the boot.img using fastboot. EDIT*** I also wiped cache, dalvik, and data prior to initial boot.
Everything went smoothly and I started the initial boot, it gets past google logo and the boot animation and it even starts the initial set up, after about 3 seconds it reboots.
I came from latest everything totally stock. (the .10 radio, and 4.4.3 stock rom) I accepted all the OTAs on stock then started the switch to GPE.
Anyone else experience this or know what I should look into to resolve this?
- Thanks in advance.
Update: I am fairly certain this has to do with SuperSU - I will attempt re-installing and ensuring SuperSu is flashed and ready to go before booting.
Update: Final edit - RESOLVED
For anyone else dealing with this, it is a matter of ensuring that SuperSu is flashed prior to booting. Once you've installed the rom, flash latest supersu and then boot as normal.

You're not doing anything wrong... Firewater only works on some M8s. You should definitely not be trying it in the GPE rom. Stock is what you want.
If you continue to get that message on a stock ROM you'll need to use SunShine S-off instead (I have a feeling that going back stock won't help the issue but it's recommended to be as close to stock as possible).

d8389 method is working, more details explained here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56955843 about going from stock to custom recovery.
As a XDA member since 2013 you should know about forum rules. Your request is not something you have developed. Questions belong in Q&A or General regardless of phone model.
Thanks everybody.

No. To be able to root, you have to be on kit kat. There is a way to upgrade to lollipop while keeping root, but there is no way to root lollipop directly

Yeah, download this file, extract all four files from inside the .zip, flash all four files with Odin simultaneously (see image below to see what I mean). This will wipe any files and settings you have saved and return the phone to factory condition, so make sure to back up anything important. Also it's a long process (5-10 minutes) and will at some point boot the phone into recovery, it's important to leave the phone plugged in and untouched, let it do its thing until it's fine and boots into kitkat

No problem. Once you're on kitkat, it's really easy to root, you just use towelroot, which is a one-click root app
Then how would I get back to lollipop and keep the root? Are you on lollipop with root?

Not if you're already on lollipop, that that's not how factory reset works. Are you asking for the i537 or i9295?

Ok every time I try to post the picture here it screws up, so I'm attaching it to the bottom of this post.
And yes, for the second time, I am on lollipop rooted. And the firmware file I linked you too earlier is for the I537, as I said. I've used it before successfully, multiple times

[Firmware] [LP] [5.0.1] [RetEd/DevEd] Safe Upgrade to Lollipop [N910VVRU2BOG5]

This is a Safe Upgrade to the latest Lollipop firmware (N910VVRU2BOG5) for VZW Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (SM-N910V), both Retail & Developer Editions.

★ What do you mean by "Safe Upgrade"?
The latest N910VVRU2BOG5 bootloader is incremented; i.e., if you take the OTA or flash the official firmware via Odin, you won't be able to downgrade.
For Retail Edition: This is very important if you want to gain ROOT access when available & keep it over OTAs then.
For Developer Edition: If the bootloader is incremented with any coming OTA, it'll block your unlocked bootloader for good & you'll end up with a Retail Edition.

EDIT: Seems you have yet to finish uploading the BOG5 tar. Patiently (kind of) waiting at my computer. lol Im going to need a new F5 button before long!

Yup. It's the best device available considering Note 5 as a downgrade except for the design that most users cover with a case anyway!

Under special instructions, it says to flash the OAF bootloader if coming from Kit Kat (I'm on NJ5). When are we supposed to do this? After we flash the OG5 stockrestore and reboot?

1st, that'sonly for the retail edition. Then, you can do it anytime to fix the auto-brightness issues with KK bootloader. That being said, it's recommended to flash OG5 stock restore & reboot again to download mode to flash OAF bootloader, before the 1st boot.
Okay that's what I was going to do. So I'd be fine to stay on my current bootloader if I don't care about the auto brightness?

Yes, but why?
I guess as long as it is still able to be downgraded, it doesn't matter. It's not like the new one would help me in any way though.

For some reason I thought that flashing the BOG5 upgrade would wipe the whole phone and reset me to a literal "factory fresh" state. But apparently, it left EVERYTHING in tact, but DID still do the upgrade. I wanted to start fresh so I could go back to a clean system and start over. So I had to do a factory reset. No biggie. Just wanted a clean slate. Looks like Im back up and running smooth. I was on BOAF bootloader already, so I didnt flash the bootloader again this time. I should still be good, right? Havent checked the bootloader post-flash yet.
Also @hsbadr, do you mind if I mirror your Safe Upgrade files on my website/server? Always ask before I do anything. Links to my site in my signature. Also, I can include any direct links back here, or two another location of your choosing. All proper credits given.

NP! If you followed OP instructions, you'll wipe data (factory reset) in recovery, before 1st boot.
I actually did a factory reset AFTER first boot. Any real difference in effectiveness? Seems to be good.
Im taking it thats a YES on mirroring your files? Just making sure. lol
Thank you hsbadr... you're just awesome! Donated!

OK, so I've started to upload all 5 stock firmwares (ANI1 through BOG5), as well as both Safe Upgrades by @hsbadr (BOF1 and BOG5). At the speed of my home cable, it will take at least a day, maybe more. Still working on the site layout, instructions, and links. When its finished, I will post a link to the site as well as directly to the Note 4 section.

Yes, but all the info that I'm adding to my site, is scattered throughout various threads and other webpages. I'm making a centralized location for everything. No more mass bookmarks, remembering threads, and since my site is highly optimized, it should save a LOT of data for those that browse on their phone. I also re-compressed all the huge files, shrinking them by about 300MB each to save some bandwidth.
Just picked up a note4 yesterday, it has N910VVRU2BOF1 on it and there is an OTA I'm not taking. I'm guessing the OTA is 2BOG5?
Anyway, will this work for me coming from a stock/retail N910VVRU2BOF1 phone?
Thanks in advance!
