Will we be able to get lock screen widgets with any of the ROMs? Or since the ROMs have to be based on TouchWiz, does that mean we're stuck with basically just themed roms? None of the ones out yet seem interesting, they all just look stock. I'm looking for a rom with custom battery icons, new features, lockscreen widgets, etc. Really missing my Samsung Galaxy S3 with the lack of customization available for the S5.

Check out ninjamorph(in the playstore). I just found it a few days ago u can theme the heck out of your phone with it. Once you get the hang of it it's a breeze. However you do have to have your own icons to swap out or just edit the ones that are there. Here's my power menu themed with ninjamorph

ok, tested and working on my device based off of G900F OEM, this mod should work for all variants. let me know how it goes
copy to sdcard, reboot to SS Recovery and flash, then reboot.
to add or change widgets swipe left or right on the lockscreen

Very much appreciate that you took the time to do this - I'm assuming I need the ROM as well, correct? Or will this work with the stock ROM just by following your steps?

This "Should" work with stock as well as any custom ROM, (I say should because as a mod it is independant of any other requirements) but make sure you flash through SafeStrap recovery make a backup first just to be safe.

Gave it a try but no bueno with the stock ROM. After flashing the zip and rebooting, I lost the lockscreen and hardware menu and home buttons entirely, only the back button was working. Restoring my backup now -- tonight I'll try flashing your ROM and then install the lockscreen widgets.
Wanted to update this thread in case anyone else wanted Lockscreen Widgets back - I installed SafeStrap and the KoolKit ROM then flashed the zip file and I have LockScreen widgets again. Huge thank you to @cstayton for coming up with a solution so quickly!
You can also use Xposed instead of flashing SafeStrap to get Lockscreen Widgets...

xPosed has lots of modules for all sorts of different things HOWEVER, xPosed also causes some very abhorent behavior in custom roms and can cause bad behavior even in stock rooted devices most devs shy away from xPosed in favor of hard coded mods. if the module works fine for then great but if you have issues like private mode not working serious lag on your device or other problems try using the hard coded mods with a custom rom

Is it possible, after rooting, to get the stock Android unlockscreen?
not development moved to general
Just install "Widgetlocker" from market
You can customize it to look exact like stock lockscreen or with moer features
I use "Goto lockscreen" though

Is there any lag using widgetlocker? been tempted before but thought it might create some lag.
Fairly sure soon there will be a .zip file that will be available for the stock lockscreen or when we get an AOSP ROM the stock lockscreen will be included.

Haven't experienced any lag with DHD using widgetlocker...
but the alternative, would be to remove the LG lockscreen on a rooted phone and push stock lockscreen instead... should be possible already now, but haven't tried it... Guess I'll just wait a few days for custom ROM instead
Widgetlocker or GOTO lockscreen is the easiest alternative right now
Hi there,
I've tried practically every custom ROM out there, and ultimately, I've found myself preferring to install the stock ROMs + cfRoot.
When JVB came out, I used the excellent "5 lockscreen mod" from dhiru1602 to get various goodies that are the staple of custom ROMs such as choice of lockscreen, scroll, overglow, CRT sleep effect and extended power menu. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036859).
I'm now looking at installing JVO, which I don't think is supported by that mod. Does anyone know how else I can these goodies on their own, without having to install a new theme entirely, and keep as close-to-stock as possible?
Thanks in advance for any tips.
if you want to do it on your own you should know about compile and decompile of apk files and also know how to work with smali and baksmali moreover you should be familiar with xml and java perhaps. its a long way to go friend.
I have seen some mods for jvo at theme section which are close to the stock rom
Brotuck has created a mod which is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Eureka!

Hello!
I am getting a little into flashing my N7000 and so far I have travelled from rooting, to upgrading to the latest official Note ROM that was released in another country than mine, to SuperNExus to most recently Slim Bean
I am missing a couple of the original apps from the stock ROM (latest one I used was "XXLSZ_Stock_deodexed_rooted_eybee1970")
Apparently, just copying them out from the ZIP file and trying to install them isn't the right way to do.
Among others, I need
* S Note
* The app/function that knows when I plug in my headset and it shows that whole new page
* Dialer
* Keyboard with the digits on top
* Clock / Alarm clock
* S Planner Calendar
Most important is that I want to learn more and understand the main problem.
So copying wasn't the right way.
I have a feeling (based on fragments that I read here and there) that flashing might be the right way, file-permissions and stuff.
If I am on the right track - is there any software/tool that creates a flashable file for me? I have been rooting around inside the ZIP files and I understand some of the ideas, the update-script and so. But trying to make one own from scratch is too hard right now.
Another problem I had once, was the pointer image. Previously, it was a nice little circle. Then at some point (maybe the Nexus ROM) it became a classical window-arrow. I managed to understand how to open an APK, switch out the PNG file and so on. But since I didn't know how to flash in just that APK, I had to flash in the whole ROM from scratch.
I assume that such tool I am asking about previously would have been the solution.
Beside that, I would like to know if anyone knows if there is an original-app-pack for Note already. I need to know the answer for above as well though
Thanks in advance!
[Q] Need some information about the lockscreen in SlimBean/SuperNexus ROM
I installed SuperNexus ROM and after that Slim Bean.
They both had that nice lock screen where you could swipe to bring forth the camera.
What is this lock screen called? I need that so that I can search for info about it.
Among the questions I have now are
* If I change to pattern instead of slide, I loose the ability to have shortcuts. Is there any other way to have shortcuts and pattern?
* When I swipe to the left, I see a + and I can add widgets. However, I can only add one widget and no ability to rescale the widget or anything. Is there a way to add more widgets per page or modifying the widget that is there already, like rescaling it?
Thanks!
The Samsung apps like Snote and Splanner will not work on the non-touchwiz custom roms like supernexus or slimbean. So if you want those apps you will have to flash a TW (touchwiz based) ROM like the alliance ROM. The other features like pagebuddy and the keyboard with digits on top will also be available only in the TW ROMs (you can search apps for the keyboard and pagebuddy and you may find them)

The lockscreen you are talking about is the 4.2 lock screen with lock screen shortcuts. It is a feature of Android 4.2 only. And no u do not have an option for shortcuts on the pattern lock or any of the other secure ways. But you may add a widget for the app on the lock screen clicking on the '+' symbol. And i had read about adding multiple widgets on one page of the lock screen but didn't come across with anything useful then. You can give it a try now.

What does it mean, "touchwiz based ROM". I have seen other terms, "X"-based ROM (maybe CM-based or other terms).
Is touchwiz so much more than just a launcher?

Thank you - this led me to the right direction. Sometimes you just don't know what is a native Android feature and what is a custom one
Well TW ROMs are touchwiz based ROMs. If you look out for the ROMs repository for the note, you'll notice the categories are TW based JB ROM etc. When u see the name of a rom, if there is [TW] written before it's name, it is a touchwiz based ROM. And touchwiz is not just a launcher. Touchwiz is the samsung customised version of Android like the sense UI by htc.

Okay, I understand better now.
I am assuming that you are a Note user. Can you give me your opinion on the difference, if there are any, between a TW based, or others, beside compatibility of a selection of apps and so. Is there any real, big, important difference?
And one more thing. When the term "custom ROM" is used, is that what is meant by it? A custom ROM is per automatic not the original TW in the Galaxy Note case? Or does it mean something else?
The difference between a TW ROM and a non TW ROM like a CM based ROM is in the features. TW ROMs use the stock Samsung created touchwiz roms as a base and build up on that. So u can find the stock apps and everything else with some customisations. Whereas the CM based ROMs are built upon the CyanogenMod which is in many ways similar to the original Android os available on the Google nexus. A custom ROM is a customised ROM developed by a developer. The other type of ROM is the stock ROM which you get preinstalled on your note. So all the ROMs you'll get on xda are custom ROMs developed by certain developer.

I just flashed the new ARHD 10.2 today and it works flawlessly... I have a couple of questions about where to go from here.
I would really like to find some themes/mods for this ROM. I had one for the battery but i guess it broke when I updated from 10.1. Does anyone know a good place to go to find battery indicator mods (like 1% and colorization mods) for de-odexed 4.2.2 ROMs?
Secondly, I have been flashing several different zips over the last 48 hours... first time, have gone a little overboard . What would be "safe" for me to remove from my virtual SD? If I dirty flashed 10.2 can I remove 10.1? Do the Zips actually do anything after they've been installed in recovery?
Thanks!
Secondly said:
Yea you can just delete them all if you really wanted to but I always like to keep one (typically the newest one) on the phone if I have the space. This is just incase something goes wrong but if its stable then it usually doesn't need to stay there.

For themes it would be better to flash trickdroid 7 because that rom has a dedicate themes package zip witch has the battery percentage mod, 5x6 app drawer and if you want, you can make the appdrawer, status bar and sense weather widgets transparent or semi transparent. I think it has it has other themes like holo status bar and other themes for the sense weather widgets. It has also a lot of battery mods like asop and others too.

If I flash trickdroid will I need to wipe phone again? I hate doing that... Using Helium to backup stuff but I still end up having to do so many customizations and options.
I loaded up the ROM I found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2356512&page=1
I didn't get an Aroma installer (I expected as much because the first post says "No Aroma") but now that the ROM is running, I'm not seeing any option to switch to the standard lockscreen or app launcher.
Is there a menu item I'm supposed to be seeing, or is it buried in settings someplace? The ROM itself is running fine, I was just looking to sprinkle a little AOSP goodness into the Sense mix
If you will flash this rom, you can't restore the stock lockscreen or app launcher

Looks like I didn't specify - when I said standard, I meant the AOSP lockscreen, NOT the sense lockscreen.
When I installed the ROM, I didn't see any place to switch to the AOSP lockscreen (what's showing is the normal Sense lockscreen).

My impression was that a google edition ROM with a number of features available from the standard Sense ROM. As a GE ROM I would have expected it to have the standard google edition lockscreen available in some way or shape.
Am I right?
The other ROM (GE on Sense) has exactly what I want for the most part, but it's being discontinued (no more updates) - so I hesitate to run it for the future. Additionally, some of the comments on both threads made it look like it was possible to switch between GE/Sense versions for certain components.
Again, I'm thinking it might be something simple I missed. What's the word?
GE roms have the AOSP lockscreen.
The "mix" rom like GE+Sense, have some and some thing of the two roms.
So, you have to do a choise or wait for the MoDaCo Switch
