Topic for deletion, I didn't realize that reboot to recovery is in a new menu that pops up when you click on reboot.

Not bricked but surely a mess....

Hello there.
I am a happy G1 owner for 3 days now
I ordered it from ebay because here in Greece it never came officially..
So I've orderder a used, already rooted and with another ROM
from JesusFreke.
I wanted to install the latest CM ROM so,
I downloaded the 4.2.5 CM ROM and the 1.6 Recovery from Android dev.
I placed them in sdcard and got into recovery mode.
I realised that I cannot use any zip file but I got only 3 options,
wipe cache
wipe everything
run update.zip
And then I did something stupid...
I renamed the recovery file into update.zip with the thought
that when I reboot again, I will press to install update.zip
and then the recovery will be installed. Then I thought to do
the same with the CM ROM.
But, ouch, the custom ROM disappeared, and now
when I go to see the information in the Settings I got this:
Firmware version: 1.6
Baseband version: 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version: 2.6.29-00479-g3c7df37
[email protected] #19
Build number:
dream_devphone-userdebug 1.6 DRC83 14721 test-keys
And still except the mess I cannot select any .zip files
to execute from recovery mode...
And of course I don't know what to do to install another ROM
or return to a factory default.
The phone is functioning, Market, calls, camera, everything
but I don't know how exactly to "fix" the recovery mode
so I could give it another try...
I don't know if this helps
but I got this message in recovery mode:
cannt open /cache/recovery/command
Any ideas / howtos / fix for this ? I tried search
but I didnt find something similar...
im gonna be lazy
Flash Android 1.6 & CyanogenMod 4.2.5/4.1.9999
You will now install the actual OS of the phone. First you will install the legal Google apps, and then you will install CyanogenMod on top of those apps.
1. Turn your phone off.
2. Hold the Home button while booting to get to Recovery mode.
3. If you wish to have an option to return to your factory settings, select nandroid backup now. If not, continue.
4. Press Alt-W (or select "wipe data/factory reset")Press home to confirm
5. Press Alt-A (or select "apply any zip from sd")
* Dream (G1): signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip
* Magic32A / Magic32B (MyTouch): See This Page
6. Press home to confirm and let installation complete
7. STOP - DO NOT REBOOT YOUR PHONE
8. Once again, press Alt-A (or select "apply any zip from sd")
* Dream (G1): update-cm-4.2.5-signed.zip
* Magic32A / Magic32B (MyTouch): See This Page
9. Press home to confirm and let installation complete
10. When this is complete, reboot your phone by pressing Home & Back.
11. Wait. Your phone will say writing radio image and then reboot. This will take a couple of minutes. Be patient!
12. If the phone enters Recovery mode after rebooting, press Home & Back again to reboot it once more. You should see the blue CyanogenMod Android logo this time.

Yes, I was there,
and if you see I cannot do this:
5. Press Alt-A (or select "apply any zip from sd")
because it isn't in the list....
So as I said, I tried to rename the .zip to update.zip,
execute it and then a mess...

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate that and
sorry for this (mess), sleep issues + n00b in this ...section (G1) (...)
I'll give it a try and I'll update this.
I know this issue is solved, but I have a question. Could he have just flashed like cyanogen 4.0.4 and then flash a new recovery like amon_ra etc? Then started over?
I was in ...panic mode. After a coffee break I fixed it.
Booting into linux, downloaded sdk tools, adb and fastboot
and then I followed the directions in:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_ADP1_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
Step by Step.
All solved, I have installed the Cyanogen recovery and the latest ROM
/me happy again starts playing around with more funny stuff
haha ok well at least you got it working
@psychopomp
If the ADP recovery flashed, the stock ADP recovery would be flash upon every boot.

Thanks, good info to know.

[Q] Phone is always booting in TWRP Mode

I'm new to this forum,
I tried to flash using signed-broodROM-JB-Release-1.zip.
I have followed these steps
Turn off your phone.
Reboot the phone into Recovery Mode by holding down the Volume Up and Power keys. When the Samsung logo appears, release both buttons. When “Android out of the Box” is displayed, tap the Menu button. DO NOT press the Home button during bootup, or else the phone will enter RAM Dump Mode.
On the recovery menu, select Apply update from SD card or Install ZIP from SD card.
Locate the twrp2.2.1-recovery.zip file and confirm that you want to install the file.
Reboot your phone afterwards.
Turn off the phone.
Reboot the phone into Recovery Mode as in step 2.
If you see the TWRP Recovery menu, then you’ve successfully flashed the new custom recovery over your phone’s stock recovery.
1.Copy the signed-broodROM-JB-Release-1.zip file and the Google Apps package to the internal SD card of your phone.
2.Turn off the phone.
3.Boot your phone into Recovery Mode. You can do this by pressing and holding down the Volume Up and Power buttons at the same time. You can then let go of the buttons once the Samsung logo on the screen appears. When the icon bearing an Android inside a box shows up, press the Menu button.
4.Select Wipe data/factory reset and confirm the action on the next screen.
5.Select Wipe and choose Cache. Confirm the action on the next screen.
6.Select Install ZIP from SD card. Select Choose ZIP from SD card and locate the signed-broodROM-JB-Release-1.zip file. Confirm the installation on the next screen.
Once the installation is complete, flash the Google Apps package in the same manner as in step 7.
Go back to the main menu and select Reboot system now to reboot your phone. It would take about 5-7 minutes to boot for the first time.
But NOW my phone is always starting with TWRP Mode...Help??
Is my phone bricked??

How to check if I have /recovery partition installed?

As in title - How to check if I have recovery partition installed?
I already flashed FTF with TA update by Andropax, but its doesnt work for me...
Any idea?
Thanks
Try do 'adb reboot recovery' or select reboot from recovery from power menu if you have any of those advanced power menu mods installed.

Won't work, the new recovery partition doesn't work with adb and so won't work with power menu mods either. Normally, POW+VOL DOWN and releasing POW on vibrate takes you to the recovery, if you've installed a recovery using 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img' , but I find that inconsistent with Stock ROMs. If you're running an AOSP based ROM, that should work and it will directly take you to recovery.
so you mean the only way to check if i have the recovery partition is by actually flashing the recovery in fastboot?
If you are rooted you can download terminal emulator from play store. Run it, type in su and hit enter. grant super user access. Then type reboot recovery and hit enter again.
Your phone should now reboot into recovery if there is any. Otherwise the phone will just reboot to its system.

[RECOVERY][UNOFFICIAL] TWRP 3.7.0 for the XPeria Z5 compact (suzuran)

Hi all:
Here is a TWRP recovery 3.7.0 for XPeria Z5 compact (suzuran).
Download 2022-12-23
This is a 7z archive with the TWRP image and the md5 file in it. Please unpack this archive. The md5 file is only for control purposes to verify that the download is not broken.
To verify the image file, enter this command line in a terminal window:
Code:
md5sum <image_name>
and compare the output with the content of the <image_name>.md5 file.
FYI: <image_name> is the full name of the image file, for example TWRP_3.7.0_9-0-recovery_suzuran_2022-12-23.img
This version uses a prebuilt kernel, therefore are no kernel sources needed.
Tree sources
Installation instructions:
Shutdown your device.
Wait about 10 seconds to be sure that the device is really shut down.
Press Volume-up, hold the button and then plug in the USB-Cable.
Release the button.
Wait until the LED turns blue.
Enter this code line in a terminal window:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <image_name>
Press Enter.
When finished: Unplug the USB cable.
To enter TWRP press Volume-down and Power simultaneously.
Use this recovery image at your own risk! It comes without any warranty! I'm not responsible for any damage! If you don't agree with that, don't try to flash this recovery image in any way.
Thanks berni, its great project.
Also, this twrp can install without pc by using "Official TWRP App" in Play Store.
For install, open that app and give root permission and tap TWRP FLASH. after that, pass the device (our device isnt in list) just tap select a file to flash and select twrp img file.
After select, tap FILE TO FLASH and enjoy.
Works:
+Backup.
+Restore
+mount (all is works)
+unmount
+Wipe.
+Flash rom.
+Battery Percentage (need to wait a bit)
+terminal
+file manager (show, remove, create)
Doesnt Works:
-CPU temperature (shows 0 degree)
Maybe Bug:
?in reboot menu, there isnt "recovery"
?in reboot menu, there are system, power off but that 2 sector's icons are "file directory"

There must be a logic behind this. I'm not familiar enough with TWRP (and I also don't have enough time) to fix that.

FYI: This is not a bug, it's a feature. In future versions some buttons will be replaced with this list style. I had to revert a commit to restore the button style.
But I'm quite sure that this will not work in the future any more.
I hardly dare to ask: in this TWRP, is decryption of /data working?
No worries; you can ask.
No, encryption is not working. This seems to be a general problem that seems not to be solvable! I'm sorry.
New version out; see 1st post.
I've tried to implement encryption but since I'm not using it I can't test it.
Please report, if it's working or not.

It does not seem to work, tested on los 14.1 and aex 4.6...
Code:
E:Decryption took too long, killing process
Decryption not working (after trying by switching from delock pattern to PIN, due to lack of support of (de)lock pattern in the twrp) on 14.1

After installing this test-twrp it is not possible to enter bootloader mode... Blue light for only around 1 sec., then reboot into normal mode.
Any workaround?

I have button in extended shutdown menu, but it didnt work, BUT the hint from TRKARTAL did : "adb reboot bootloader"
Anyway, Berni, or others, I would very appreciate further effort to get the En/decrytion working. I would even donate something therefore
Because it is essential to avoid a lot of manual backup/restoring of data when trying / upgrading another (newer) ROM version.

We have tried a lot to get it working, but unfortunately until now without any success!
Of course, I meant the extended shutdown menu of the lineage OS.
In this TWRP there is not such feature, but I have seen it on other devices, like TWRP for Z3 Tablet.
Keep on trying, pls!

[ Tutorial ] Install TWRP for those who couldn't access the device's buttons.

Do it at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damage to your device.
Need unlocked bootloader and root magisk.
In step 3, instead of pressing the buttons on the device, go to the top of the magisk manager and click on Reboot Recovery.
Attention: When I booted TWRP, the touch stopped working, it came back when I installed ArrowOs and TWRP was replaced by Arrow recovery. I haven't tested it in other custom ROMs. the root It was excluded.
1) Flash twrp in magisk manager.
2) Don't restart and flash magisk.zip in magisk manager.
3) Hold vol- and power till phone restarts, and in the very first screen keep tapping the power button while vol- is still held.
4) Chose 'yes' twice and get into twrp.
5) Format data.
6) Flash dmverity.zip
7) Format data and restart.
Extract the files.
Contains TWRP.zip, Magisk and dmverity.zip

Thanks. I thought that wasn't it cuz the first time it put me in bootloop
Just an fyi, the twrp versions, at least on stock, the touch doesn't work UNLESS you get to twrp using the button combo after device has been shut off.
Have forgotten why that's the case, but for the touch to work, on stock anyway, you have to get to twrp only with the buttons on boot.

Well... That's always a possibility.
Sir, my twrp cant mount anything and showing 0mb to all partition. i've been tried tutor to fix it on google but nothing works. Any help please?
I cant figure out how to get it to work either.
I get magisk working, and get TWRP in the modules list. Then I cannot enter recovery mode using the menu in magisk or by doing the button combo. is it possible this locks you out for some reason in doing this?
