Hi,
My Z is running on stock .350, rooted and running XZDualrecovery and locked bootloader. I'm trying to flash the new .235 firmware but I have no luck at all using whatever methods. When I use flashtool, an error appears like this:

When I use PC companion, to the step when it told me to power off the phone and holding the volume down key while reconnecting to the PC, nothing happen when I did as it told me to.
Also I notice when I dont run any program at all, and then power off my phone and holding the volume down key while reconnecting, there is a sound on my PC that notify a connecting device, but doesnt show anything at all (window 8). And the led of the phone started with red and blinked into green then disappear completely after just half a second. I dont know what happen, it seems like my phone cant go to flashboot mode. Please help me, I just want to upgrade to a newer firmware with root access and nothing else. Thanks
Have you got the correct drivers installed, have you followed the correct way in @shadowboy23 tutorial also there is a link in my sig on how to (shadows way is thought windows, mine is through dos)
Also try another ftf file maybe a bad creator/download
Edit: Please don't panic post, just read there is a lot of advise out there. Your not the first person to have problems and won't be the last but we all try to help each other

Hi Guys,
I require your help.
I think i have bricked my Xperia Z1 while trying to flash a ftf.
firstly when i tried to switch on my phone it showed "Update failed please connect to system and update again"
now the phone is totally bricked (no response) and when i try to connect it in flashmode windows detect it as qhsusb_bulk device.
Can anyone please suggest or help !
can you please enumerate your steps of doing this?if it's ok...think positive dont panic!
You are not the first and I think you are not the last. Phone Bricked mean dead, your is not. If you PC can recognize the phone that mean something is working.
So, did you use flashtool v0.9.11 or v0.9.13?
From my previous experience, the best way to rescue Xperia is Sony Update Service.
So, please try SUS.

Since your device is detected by flashtool , please use SUS.
Flashtool has little chance to force flash since it gives errors and stop half way.
But SUS does because it dont need to verifer your phone but you have to choose it from a list, it might not success at the first time but will go through the whole process(i tried to resure xperia TX with 5 flashs and it eventually boot)
So keep flash with SUS until your phone boot.
PC companion need to recognise your phone model so it is a bit tricky.

Like you can see in the post the phone is recognised so I don't see the problem.
I will also recommended to try different FTF, it seem like will be some error there.
And at last I will repeated the follow steps:
Keep pressed volume down all the time and connect the phone via usb to PC, do not open flashtool (do not use drivers from sony site, if you installed them uninstall them, windows will do that) wait 1 minute and let windows install the drivers automatically first, then open flashtool, select firmware and flash it, keep pushing volume down all the time. When on the green bar below show up the % of the process you can leave your phone alone. Done.

you need to have a look how to flash the device if it is in hs-usb mode (qualcomm is the manufacturer of our snapdragon 800 CPU and the hs-usb mode is meant for vendors to flash bootloader a.s.o.)
i never tried such a thing and maybe it simply can't be done without the special unofficial tools that the vendors have.
so this really looks like a brick ...
hope the best for you guys ...

Bored to mention it: Wrong Windwos ADB Drivers. If the device is recognized how can it be bricked. Just wrong set/recognized.
But if you all prefer to send your devices in, open the cases (OMG) or other useless stuff... Entering in Flash/Fastbootmode has nothing to do with the battery. On older Xperia devices you could even flash without/removed battery... The S1 Fastboot unlock worked without battery. How do you think does Sony interact with the ROM's or EEPROMS? A special hidden connector? A special Software? Whispering?
I have the same problem and posted here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2623486
I tried with a second sony xperia z1 that already had 4.3 OTA update and then tried flashing it again using flashtool and it worked so this eliminates the program and usb cable.....the one I have now which is giving me issues is one which had 4.2.2 and im trying to flash to 4.3
I have an Xperia SP which is stuck on a solid red LED when trying to charge. I bought the phone locally with a view to repairing it so not too sure of it's history.
The phone has no display, no vibration when holding down (or up) the volume button and power. The phone is detected if i plug it in via USB and drivers are successfully installed. The phone will vibrate 3 times when the yellow button on the back is pressed sometimes.
I've replaced the battery as the old one seemed to only output 3.1v (there is no stated voltage on the battery itself but i've seen replacement batteries being sold which are stated at 3.7 volts so i assumed this was the problem), but the new battery seems to still have the same issue.
With the old battery the phone would light up red when attempting to charge, remain solid red for 10 minutes before the LED switches off for around 5-7 minutes. The phone then use to go back to the red LED and the loop would continue.
Today i've replaced the battery with a new one, the battery has been on charge for around 4 hours. At first the phone was doing the exact same thing as it did with the old battery. After i reseated the battery connector, the phone is now lit a solid red when plugged in, it remains like this for ten minutes before switching to a solid green LED for around 20-30 seconds and then back off. After around 5 minutes it switches back to red and the loop continues.
Is it worth trying to install stock firmware on this?
In flashtools, when the phones LED lights up red it is temporarily detected before disconnecting in flashtools after 5 seconds or so. When the LED lights up green, the device connects in flash mode before disconnecting after approximately 5 minutes.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, i am currently reading through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849170 to see whether this will work for me.

Thanks for the prompt reply. The only thing that concerned me about flashing was the fact the phone is only detected in flashtools for approximately 5 minutes before disconnecting. The connection opens when the led cycles from green to red as mentioned above. The concern being the phone disconnecting halfway through flashing. Will continue to read through the thread as suggested and follow through later tonight.
If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know.
The new battery is also measuring in at 3.1v, can anyone confirm if this is normal?
After trying to flash the phone unfortunately the issue still persists. The LED is a solid red when charging and blinking red when not charging. No power. No vibration when holding power and either volume button.
When i connect the phone through USB it is detected and drivers are installed .
I retried flashing a second time, however still no different. At the end of flashing flashtool prompted this message "For flashtool, Unknown Sources and Debugging must be checked in phone settings"
Have i done something wrong with how i've went about this?
Here's the log, please let me know if you can help.

No don't wrry. That's standard message after flashing. I get it all the time too.
But is still doesn't work, you say... hmm I haven't read through the thread yet, but you sure you followed every step and tried everything that's mentioned? Hi, i followed the thread through.
Something worth noting is during the phone cycling from red to green, it vibrated once this time on green which it hasnt done before.
Im still curious about what voltage the battery should be reading. It's still at 3.1v, although I've seen batteries being sold for this phone which are stated as 3.7v. I'm not sure if that's of any relevance though.
I currently have the phone charging with a rubberband Around the power button after reading this worked for others.
Will continue reading through the threads, if anyone has any ideas in the meantime please let me know.
Just to update, i left the phone on charge overnight and when Trying to turn on today the led will flash green once. Nothing further from this point.
The battery is measuring in at 3.5v today. My plan is to leave it on charge a further few hours before attempting to flash again tonight after i download a different stock firmware, just incase there was some issue with the firmware i tried yesterday.

I downloaded the firmware through SUS, converted to ftf using flashtool. The file appears in windows explorer under the flashtool>Firmware directory as Xperia SP_Generic_12.0.A.2.254.ftf, but when trying to select the firmware within flashtool the file is not there for me to select. I thought to try dragging and dropping the file in to flashtool window however no luck. Not sure why this is happening, will have a play around but if any suggestions please let me know.
EDIT: Think ill try to redownload the firmware through SUS
Managed to find the firmware in flashtool after redownloading through SUS. Unfortunately after flashing the phone is still no better, the same symptoms are occuring.
If anyone has any other ideas worth trying please let me know.
Could the charging ic perhaps be bad?
The phone doesn't seem to have enough power to boot. During the led loop i mentioned the battery voltage varies from 2.9v ( red led) up to 3.2v (green led), after green the led turns off the voltage seems to gradually come back down to around 2.9v, the red led turns on and the loop continues. This is all while the phone is plugged in to the wall charger.
After charging through last night the phone did have a green led flash briefly and the phone measured in at 3.5v in the morning, no power though.
If anyone has any thoughts on this please let me know.
Edited to mention the phone does vibrate once if i disconnect the battery for 20 seconds, hold the power button and then plug the charger in first before i reattach the battery while holding the power button. Nothing else happens unfortunately.
Just to update this for anyone who may be having issues.
I had tried to charge the battery using a lipo charger and flash the firmware after my last update on this thread a few months ago, however the issue remained.
The phone has been sitting since, however decided to give it another go today and it is now working.
Here's what i done:
Reinstalled Sony update service and phone drivers. To connect my phone in SUS i had to remove the battery for approx 30 seconds> plug USB in> hold volume down and then plug battery back in. The phone then connected and i was able to begin downloading the firmware. In my situation an update was available. During this time the LED on phone was solid green. Halfway through downloading, the red light appeared and the phone disconnected from the program. I repeated the steps mentioned above to connect the phone again (remove battery etc) and the download continued until completion (Solid green LED throughout).
As per instructions in SUS, once installation completed i disconnected the phone and attempted to boot. No luck on the first attempt. I charged for an hour or so and got the orange LED for the first time, tried booting and the phone is back functional.
I will just update what worked for me:
1. Prepared a wall charger
2. I unplugged the battery from the slot of the motherboard.
3. While the battery was unplugged I plugged the usb cable from the wall charger to the phone.
4. After Sony Logo appear (about 3-4 seconds after plugging the cable) then plug back the battery to the motherboard.
5. The Phone starts to charge the battery and I was able to turn the phone on.
What I think it is battery issue because the battery can't give enough V/A to start the phone and the bootloader receives wrong information that is why on unplugged battery with USB charger I actually jumped over and then plugging back battery just push the battery on charging in the midst.
Now I ordered new battery and I will see am I right or not.
Hi guys, my X8 is not booting up. Everytime I press the power button, it vibrates but after that nothing happens. I tried to flash the stock firmware of x8 thru flashtool but nothing happens. I also tried using SEUS and PC companion. Please help? My computer can recognize the x8 but I don't know what to do next. Is it a hard brick or a soft brick only? Please I need your help. Thanks in advance.

My x8 manufacture date is 10w51. I just relocked it hoping that it will fix the problem. But it didn't. The problem happened while I am on LewaOS rom. I just turned off my x8 because I am going to church and when I am going to open it. It just vibrates and nothing happen. And one thing I notice is that even though I didn't hold the back button, it can connect to flashtool on flash mode.
- EDIT -
Guys, please reply. I really need your help.
Stupid observation but believe me i have seen cases where this was the problem, are you sure it isn't out of battery?
If that's not the case then maybe there is a problem with the battery, does it charge normally?

I don't know if the battery is the problem. I turned my phone off but it has 20% charge left. Actually, I can't charge my phone now. I tried to charge it for hours but nothing happens. Also, when I look on my battery, there is no change on its appearance. It looks normal. I am totally confused right now on what to do. My PC can recognize it and I can go to flash mode on flash tool. But whenever I try to turn it on, it only just vibrates. Thanks for you reply.

Hi evryone.
I was trying to install cyanogenmod on my phone, but after getting the root acess, when i tried to to install it, it said that there was some kind of problem because the nightly rom i had on my Sd wasnt the right one for my model.
I wanted to place the links for the cyanogenmod rom i downloaded and the tutorial i followed to install it, but since this is my first post, XDA doesnt allow me to place any outside links.
Now whenever i boot my phone it stops on the Sony experia screen and it doens do anything else. No other menus. Just the Sony screen. The only command it receives is the Power and Vol up to turn it down again.
Please, is there any solution? Is my phone 100% bricked? Is there anyway to connect it to the pc and place the Xperia original files/rom manually??
I sent an email to sony even tough i know my warranty is voided. I have had some other problems with their assistence so i dont expect much help.
I just cant afford another selfphone and my mother´ll be super mad if i tell her i bricked it.
Thank you.

This is becoming common
It is only a soft brick DO NOT WORRY - I have also done this, and seems most common with older versions of TWRP
Download flashtool and download a .ftf file from HERE (anyone will do they are all the same)
now open up flashtool and it will tell you to move files from *folder* to *.flashtool folder* also place the .ftf file in the new folder
now click the lightning symbol - flashmode
click the firmware you downloaded
and click flash
now on your device hold down the POWER + VOLUME buttons until the device vibrates 3 times (this will turn it off)
hold the VOLUME DOWN ( & nothing else - make sure the phone is off for this) while holding vol down, plug the phone into the computer. You should see the led turn red then green/blue
flashtool will now see the device in flashmode and flash the firmware (when the firmware has been read by flashtool)

I am now downloading the files. Thank you so much for your help.
I think it is important to mention that I have formatted the internal storage. and wiped the data and user cache. The error message saying it wasnt the right rom appeard after e formatted it. Is this still a soft brick? :/

Yep, from experience I don't think it is actually possible to hard brick the Z3C (I might be wrong)
If the device still reboots when the volume buttons are pressed, your phone is recoverable <--- Soft Brick
If the device is on a black screen and it won't reboot, the phone is not recoverable <--- Hard Brick

I think important and useful steps and tutorials like these should be gathered in a FAQ thread and be sticked. All frequent problems and solutions are all over the place and we need such tutorials an solutions in an easy accesible place.
I think I really hard-bricked my Z3C... flashed a recovery with TWRP, which got a custom theme with extra features (able to flash .img files) made by @z31s1g. Now my device won't reboot nor enter flash mode or fastboot mode - just red LED is blinking when connecting to USB, screen is black (no Sony logo or anything). When trying to boot it vibrates one time, but doesn't do anything...
Any chance to get it working again without sending it to Sony?
Edit:
Sony sent me a new phone, did not have to pay anything, as it seems they couldn't repair it and weren't even able to recognize that my TA was deleted... So got it as a warranty "repair".
What?!?! Ive been reading it all wrong, i can get a new phone for making a problem, as they dont care about their own faults
btw how did you brick it? just curious for developement

Same thing happened to me. I downloaded an older version of flashtool (0.9.18.6) because I couldn't get the newer versions to work and I flashed a stock kitkat rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706 (Specifically the "23.0.A.2.93 - Unbranded - USA (1289-7524)" version - make sure you get the right version for your model). With this process, you don't need to turn your phone on. Just make sure you know how to use flashtool correctly.
That's all I did. Let me know if it doesn't work.

Did it complain about not being able to find drivers for your device? That's what it says when I plug my Z3c in. And I've attempted to install drivers using the drivers tool in flashtool/drivers/.

I created an account to say that this method works. However, using flashtool (using windows 10) can create a small problem because on mine (at least at the start) the drivers would not load. The workout involves going to advanced startup and getting windows to boot without driver signing. I'm sure that you can download something that permanently disables it, also. Using that, I was able to install every driver without a problem. Just be sure to reboot normally or you might run into issues when flashing (I was unable to flash properly until I restarted).

Thanks! This worked! Any idea on how to avoid getting stuck in this loop while rooting the phone?
Hi Guys,
Unfortunately, I think I'm closer to the subject title: HardBricked
My compact Z3 is completely bricked ... due to severe, numerous & disorganized flash.
- No boot at all: backlight but no display.
- No more access to fastboot or TWRP recovery
- FlashTool and its flashmode seem to work: I manage to block / unblock the bootloader,
- But flashing does not work.
I'm under Gnu/Linux, but I'Ve tried with Win7 (drivers Ok) with the same result.
Here is FlashTool log:

Hi
Can someone suggest a way fwd, I have an z3c I was trying to press back into life with an OS new enough for messenger etc.
I was following the instructions from LinageOS 16, got thru unlocking and into fastboot, all going as described until it said sideload the package. When I did this the UI on the phone said the package was for z3c and that my phone was a ".".
Part of the linageos instructions were to wipe parts of memory and cache, which I think is why when I reboot the phone now, it just sticks on the logo, I cannot get back to the fastboot UI either.
Using the flashtool on my PC I can still connect and load the stock fw but it makes no difference.
I did backup a couple of sections, with TWRP, I thought to the sdcard, before I started, but I cannot see them on the card now, could they be hidden?
Or have I done the impossible and really bricked a z3c?
Chris
