I'm sure I probably missed the correct thread but I can't seem to find it so I figured I'd ask. Is there a method to root the Sprint HTC One (M7) running 4.4.2? My wife is finally going to let me root her phone but I rooted mine a month after it came out so everything has changed and I assume I can't use my AIO. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Have a look at this thread.
Thanks. I must've been more tired than I thought to have missed that. Now, she doesn't want me to root it...aaah, make up your mind lol.

hello this is my first post and i'm sorry if it is in the wrong section. i was wondering how i can tell if my phone is completely unrooted? i received a replacement in the mail and i need to send this one back. i used super one click and it said "Device does not have Superuser!" i just wanted to make sure it is completely unrooted though because i rooted it a while ago but i dont think my SD card was unmounted at the time and i dont know if that will make a difference. thanks in advance.

you can test it with an application which requires root, if it works you are still rooted, if doesn't work, congratz!
Hey guys,
I have the latest update 2.31.651.7 on my HTC Hero right now. For whatever reason when I try to install the 2.27.651.6 version I get 140 bootloader version error all the time. This is getting really annoying and I have spent countless days trying to figure this out but I got nowhere. I have already rooted the phone by universal androot. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all of you in advance
Why are you wanting to go to .6? And if your rooted why are you sticking with the stock rom? Honestly man READ a ton before doing any of this. Even rooting.

Yes, reading is your friend, to fix 140 go to my links thread.
I literally tried everything possible and I am pretty sure by now I have gone through all the links and threads here in xda. The reason I wanted to go back to 3.27.651.6 was so that I could load custom roms which dont seem to be possible with my current version because I keep getting the 140 error.
Uh........*cough*....ahem. Yeah. Get it fixed?
so does anyone have any advice on what to do? Since getting the new version and the update I seem to be unable to load custom roms anymore.

So did you go to my links thread? Click on my user name, go to thread started by me, find the 140 fix?

It seems like you were rooted and accepted the over the air update. If that's the case then you may just have lost root and need to reroot you phone again. Try the one click root app in themes and apps section.
Root/Hack-Mod-Always*
Root this way also if ya like....

So I am a new person and therefor can not post this in the development thread under the forum where I feel it would belong with the other root related questions.... So i followed the SUPER GUIDE to root my phone (Thank you so much Slapshot and PirateGhost, I was beginning to regret not getting a skyrocket until I found your thread). My super user is running into an issue I can not seem to fix.....
Maybe this is simple or maybe I really messed something up....
Basically none of my apps have root anymore (they did at one point and to my knowledge I change nothing...)
When I go to the Super User app to update my binaries and hopefully get any issues resolved I am greeted by the following error message in the update log: "Failed to find currently installed SU binary. Update cannot continue"
Is there a resolution for this? I have not found anyone even running into the same issue on the Vivid.....
A little nervous.... I didnt have near this many issues rooting my ATRIX and modding the living daylights out of that.
Have you checked with Root Checker Basic to see if you even have Root? If you didn't follow the Super Guide step by step your phone could have relocked after you turned your phone off/on.
If it still fails to update you could try SuperUser Update Fixer.
Yes I have check with root checker.
This may be a dumb question but how do I uninstall Superuser? When I go to the typical application management it does not give me the option. I have done an install again to overwrite the files and nothing changed there.
I followed the instructions step by step (though obviously I messed up somewhere...)

Interesting... maybe your root didn't stick. We had a little trouble with that before but pirateghost fixed the CWM ROOT zip. You have a working CWM Recovery, correct?
In the superguide, I have a second option for root in case the first doesn't work. In your case, go ahead and try the second option. The one involving the supertool. That should get you perm root. If that doesn't even work, then we might have to put you back to stock and go at it again.
EDIT: BEFORE TRYING THE SUPERTOOL, try flashing the new CWM ROOT VER2 zip from CWM recovery and see if root sticks.
Slapshot, thank you for checking the General Thread, I really do appreciate that. I have tried both methods multiple times since the root failure seeing as so many people said they had to run the methods multiple times to make them stick (this admittedly may be part of the issue). The most recent one has been the CWM ROOT VER2. Still no dice. Is there a method to remove and re install super user? Or am I reading into the error too literally and instead I just basically do not have root.

No problem. At this point I think you may just not have root... but first, go ahead and go into bootloader (power off, then power on while holding power and vol down). Does your device say unlocked?
*Just a clarification*
You have to unroot your phone to get rid of it Idk why I put uninstall/reinstall earlier...still out there from last night I guess.

Yes the device still says unlocked. That was one of the first things I checked... Haha....
As I said ive flashed the rooted CWM and it says it went over successfully.
If i use the Zerg exploit it still seems to go over successfully (I realize this has a tenancy to mess with internal storage and only provide a temp root but i do not even get that temp root).
How would I unroot my device? Do you mean flash to stock and relock my boot loader?
As I said I have flashed several devices in the past (Atrix, eee pad transformer, HTC Inspire, HTC DINC, SAMSUNG GALAXY S T-Mobile) but I am not completely up to date on all of the technical terms...

Yes, I mean relock the bootloader and back to stock rom, then try again. Do you know how to get back to stock?

I haven't told anyone how to do it surprisingly, and I'm more than happy to help . I was honestly thinking about adding reverting back to stock to the superguide, and I think I just may do that. Here is the link. Pirateghost is the man.

Thank you for this and all of your help, people like you and ghostpirate are why i still feel like I can turn to the XDA community. I will try this firs thing in the morning and give an update on how things went. I would try it tonight but lets be honest, its the 1st of the year and the last thing I need to be doing is messing with technology.....

It's no problem, this isn't a dumb question or easy issue by any means. If the method I directed to you doesn't work, let me know. There is another way to do it without all the code.

Worked perfectly. I flashed it back to stock using the thread you linked me to. Then I did the CWM Root method and so far so good. I appreciate all of your help
Nice, I'm glad you were able to get everything working.

Hi, forgive me if this thread is in the wrong place, or if it's been answered elsewhere, i've looked around and couldn't seem to find and answer. Anyway, I have an HTC Vivid for AT&T, and I'm new to Androids in general, I've read that for AT&T there's only a temporary root (When you reboot your phone it's un-rooted). Is this still true? I've read through a few guides, and looked at Hasoon200's HTC all in one toolkit, but it doesn't specify if it would work for the AT&T Vivid or not. I'm sure there's an obvious answer and I'm just overlooking something, but I just wanted to make sure that it would work before I attempted to root my phone for the first time and mess it up. If there IS a permanent root, would someone be kind enough to link me to a guide?
Thanks in advance

If you go to htcdev.com and unlock your bootloader you are able to load a custom rom on your phone and it will be perma rooted. You can reboot a thousand times and still be rooted.

Hi guys. I recently got an S4 active off of craigslist, but it has 4.3 so I can't root and unlock it! Is it possible to downgrade back to 4.2.2? If so, could someone point me to a guide? I'm really worried about accidentally bricking this or something, since there doesn't seem to be much online about the S4 Active. Thanks guys.

I wouldn't try it. Pretty much, since you're already on 4.3, you're pretty much stuck there.

So I guess I should just wait around, and hope that a new root/unlock comes out? I've used Odin to downgrade my S3, but I don't know if it's as safe on an S4 Active.

If 4.3 upgrade is anything like the previous upgrade experience I had - they locked the phone to the 4.3 version

Yepp, I would just wait, although it's not guaranteed. This phone is so heavily locked down it's ridiculous.
That's a huge disappointment. I even had the guy I bought it from try and get an unlock code, but AT&T won't give one to him. Hopefully something works out.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but what would be the harm in trying to flash the MF1 pre-release? From everything I read if it's not going to work then the installer will just fail to install anything and shouldn't brick your device. If something does go wrong and it messes up your device, we now have the Odin package to get back to ML2. As a last resort you could always go to Best Buy and try to get them to reflash the device to MF3.
I know that people were able to flash between MI2 (4.3) and MF1 (4.2.2) no problem, they were even able to obtain root on MI2 so maybe there's a way to downgrade from ML2 to MI2 to MF1. I have no idea if it would work, and odds are it won't but it seems like it's worth a try.

It all has to do with the bootloader. I've bricked my note 2 trying to downgrade. Sometimes it would fail, others it would proceed with the flash and fail afterwards. The phone wouldn't boot up, I've tried many things to get it back working with no success. So I then got this phone and I'm not even going to attempt to downgrade. Up to you, though.
