The Titanium Backup folder appears empty on the computer? - Moto X Q&A

I'm setting up my new phone (a OnePlus One, for those who are curious, and I have no invites), and I rooted my Moto X to run titanium backup and back up all my apps and data. I run it just fine, and I can see all the backed up files in the folder just fine. However, when I connect my phone to my computer to transfer the Titanium folder to my desktop, and nothing appears in the Titanium folder in the computer's file viewer on both my Macbook and Windows desktop. Anyone know what could be going on and how to fix it?

Unplug the phone. Turn off the phone and back on, then before you connect it, wait 5 minutes for the phone to build up an index of your files.

backup,restore help

i recently lost my nexus one but i had a backup folder for titanium backup in my pc
now i just bought a captivate and when i try to restore my msgs ,it says tht restore complete, it shows nohting ie no msgs are restored
when i c the backup , it shows the data is there and wht time it was backed up last
how can i restore my msgs now ?
they just dont show up
rom : cognition 4.1.1
kernel : speedmods
You won't be able to restore system settings/data. Only app data.
^
y is tht , cause its a new phone or wht ?
cause i used to restore alot with the n1 and my spica , and i think i transfered the msgs from 1 to the other btwn them
okay
if its cause if the different roms then can i do this ?
i had cyanogen rom on my nexus when i made tht backup
now if i put cm7 on the captivate , and restore the msgs
is there any software tht can help me restore the msgs on any other rom , after i shift from cm7 ??
PS - i have never really had to go to a different rom on the nexus 1 , i always had the cm rom , so dont know much
System data is specific to a particular phone and ROM. Restoring it, even if it is the same phone and ROM version, has been known to cause problems (app and/or system FCs). Since that backup was made on a different phone, the system aspect of it is useless and even some of your restored apps may not work.
It's actually because the location of the sms database is in a different spot on the galaxy s line, so I'm sure TB restored it to the same spot as on the N1, which is the wrong spot on the Galaxy S/Captivate. You can maybe try moving the database over yourself with adb, though I'd back up your current database first..
The sms/mms database on the nexus one is located at:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
On the Galaxy S it is in:
/dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.telephony/mmssms.db
What you would want to do is take a backup of your mmssms.db in /dbdata/..., move your old n1 database over to /dbdata/... from /data/data/... (overwriting the existing one) and then restarting your phone.
Titanium Backup restore after ROM install
I am having restore issues and would appreciate some help.
I installed Cognition 4.1.1 on my Captivate. First time through I did Ti Backup "Backup all user apps + system data", moved the Titanium Backup directory to my PC, ran Odin to restore I897UCJF6, but then couldn't do a Master clear due to PC connection difficulties. I continued without a Master Clear and was eventually successful. I restored my apps after installation with TiB "Restore Missing Apps with Data".
Not doing a Master Clear was tormenting me so I did the installation all over again, this time without doing the TiB backup again as I still had the first backup folder on my PC. I found the phone number for the Master Clear and did that in lieu of Odin Master Clear. It all worked...but
...now when I copy my Titanium Backup folder from my PC back to my phone and open TiB, it doesn't see and backups. I have two files in my /mnt/sdcard/TitaniumBackup directory...
TitaniumBackup_latest.apk 1.82 MB, and
TitaniumBackup.apk 1.73 MB.
When I install TiB from the Market, it is version 3.7.4. The first file appears to be the 3.7.2 app and the second is the 3.6.8 app.
Hope I didn't leave anything out. WHERE'S MY STUFF???
Your TitaniumBackup folder shouldn't only have those two backups. Those are just the install files for the Titanium Backup app itself. It should typically have EVERY app/data file inside that folder. (I have 756 files in my TitaniumBackup folder).
Go to the folder copy you left on your computer and see if the files are still there... If not, you're in bad luck I'm afraid.
Ah! I looked around and indeed found the "real" location I had used. I was looking in the folder where I had downloaded the app. The real location has lots of files. I will try again. Thanks for your help.

TIBU QUESTION....again

So I asked this question earlier, and got some helpful, quick responses, but I still need help. I keep copying my tibu to my pc. when I put bu on new phone via pc, tibu doesn't seem to recognize it. I now have the pro version, I have hit the problems button to install busybox. and when I go to restore apps after flashing new rom, on a diff phone, tibu says there are zero missing apps. I have put the back up from my pc in the titanium folder as well as the root of sd. Still....nothing. I'm assuming it's possible to restore a bu from a pc, considering all tutorials tell you to put bu on your pc just to be safe. Any advice is apprecitated. just getting tedious manually installing every app back on the phone.
Btw, I have two phones that i go back and forth with. just want to be able to use alternate bu to each phone.

Are you refreshing g the apps list after you move the files to your phone? Are you having it check for the folder in settings?

I remember having that same problem when I first started using Tibu, but for me it was on the same phone after I did a master clear or factory reset, and then copied the Titanium Backup directory from the PC back to the correct place on the SD card and couldn't see it in Tibu. This was around eight months ago, so I don't remember exactly what I did to fix it, but I do remember it was actually pretty simple. I remember that for some reason Tibu wasn't seeing the data directory and the fix was within Tibu, so try going to settings - preferences - Backup folder name. When you open it up it says the backup directory is "TitaniumBackup". If that's correct, just select OK and see what happens after you close and reopen Tibu. Also, I think I may have reinstalled busybox from within Tibu from the problems button or something like that. Anyway, the Tibu Wiki says:
12. No data elements are found and my apps and data don't appear in the list. Why?
•Please hit the "Problems?" button, it will (almost certainly) resolve your issue.

Got it to work with the suggestions above. Much thanks

[Q] Z1 rooting process.

I would like to root my z1. Havent done it before using different unit of phones. So this would be the first time.
I know that theres alot of guides created for this but im getting confuse which and what to follow.
Im using a z1 c6903 kitkat version 4.4.4.
So my questions are below.
1. How to create a back up and what app to use. In case something go wrong.
2. What are the files and applications needed to complete rooting my device.
Anyone that can answer my question and have the correct instructions on how to do this will be greatly appreciated. TIA XDA.
1. How to create a back up and what app to use. In case something go wrong.
I use Titanium Backup (root only) to backup my apps. Google sync my contacts. Most my stuff is on sd card but the ones in the internal storage, I just copy and paste to my computer. Never backed up my messages but you can use PC Companion to do so.
2. What are the files and applications needed to complete rooting my device.
Use this. Probably don't even have to do a backup, it never failed on me.
Hi mythomania,
I just got this phone two weeks ago. It came with KitKat 14.4.A0.108 and I did it like this:
1. Backup: I don't want to sync my stuff with Google so I just exported my contacts from the contacts app to a file (.vcf) and my text messages with SMS Backup & Restore from the Play Store. I then connected via USB and copied these backup files plus everything else I needed to my PC.
2. Enable USB Debugging and Unknown Sources on the phone. Connect the phone to your PC, it will say it was unable to install some drivers.
3. Install ADB drivers on your PC. No need for PC Companion, you can get them directly from this Sony page.
Use Windows Device Manager to install these for the unknown device it shows you.
4. Get EasyRoot 12.1 from here.
It may not work the first time and just hang saying "Creating VM" or "Cleaning up" or something like that. If this happens, just disconnect the phone and run it again. For me, it worked on the second attempt on my Z1 and only on the third attempt on a relative's Z1 Compact.
5. If EasyRoot is successful, install SuperSU from the Play Store.
After that, you should consider installing XZDualRecovery so you can make Nandroid backups. Btw, none of this will unlock your boot loader, so it should be safe from a warranty point of view.

[Q] Cant find my titanium and nandrid backup on pc

Hi, (newbie here and would appreciate if you guys explain every step, detail)
I've recently installed titanium backup (free) and nandroid on my Xperia Z1 from play store, My phone is rooted, have unlocked bootloader. Also NDR utils from dualrecovery is installed. Now im gonna install a custom rom. Before that i want to get backups both my whole system (in case of soft bricking) and my apps+data. I did titanium backup and when i searched it from "File Manager (apk)", couldn't find it. But i was able to see that backup via "Root Explorer", it was placed in "emulated/legacy/titanium backup". Same issue with nandroid too. Then i changed the backup folder of titanium backup to "internal memory/downloads". After the backup is finished, checked the folder via Root Explorer, there was no problem. But still cant see the backup on my computer or File Manager. I want to copy my backups to pc (i have sony pc companion, google usb drivers, adb drivers installed on my pc). But cant find my backups via windows explorer (im using windows 7 ultimate).
I heard using cmd can fix this.
adb pull /sdcard/titaniumbackup c:/TitaniumBackup (the code was like that)
Although i dont know how to use cmd properly and if there is another solution that i can manually select those backup files and copy paste in my documents on pc, i'd highly prefer that one.
By the way lots of files that i can see by rootexplorer, cannot be seen from my computer. Is this normal?
Xperia Z1
4.4.4
C6903
Thanks in advance...

Titanium Backup doesn't see backups

I just got a Nexus 6 and i'm trying to restore some apps I have backed up from my LG G3. I copied the backups into the Nexus 6\Internal storage\Titanium folder. When I opened Titanium Backup and went to preferences and chose the backup folder, I pointed it to the /sdcard/Titanium folder and it showed 339 backups. I started restoring a bunch of them (over 100) and it restored some, but then stopped and said restore complete with like 60 errors. Now if I open Titanium Backup it doesn't show any backups available to restore and if I go to the preferences and choose the backup folder, it says "This folder is empty" on the same folder. Opening it on my PC shows that the files are still there.
I've tried:
Restarting the app
Force closing the app
Clearing cache and data
Uninstalling and reinstalling the app
Any ideas?
While this has nothing to do with the nexus 6 (also, it should be in Q&A), i will answer it.
You have to go to the menu, then prefrences. Click on backup folder location, then press detect. It should find the location of your TitaniumBackup folder automatically, then click use current folder and it should restart after that.
Tell me if it works
Had this problem many times, especially when changing devices. Sometimes changing app processing mode from direct to indirect resolved hanging issues for me. You can find it in preferences.
XabdullahX:
That was the first thing I tried (should have put that in the list of things I tried). Titanium Backup can't find it.
killall:
That didn't work either.
The strange thing is even if I use a file explorer to go to the folder, I don't see my backup files. It's like they're not anywhere on the device. But if I connect it to my computer, I can see them all right there, all 1000+ files.
Whoa this is actually a bigger issue than just TIBu failling.
A ton of things are on one view but not another. I see files/folders through the android file explorer that i don't see on my pc, and I see files/folders on my pc that i don't see on my android.
What's going on?
