Last time I had the Moto X there was an issue with Kit Kat and hotword detection. Can anyone tell me how the touchless controls are working now vs Google Now hotword detection as compared to other Devices like the Nexus 5 or LG G3.
Does Ok Google work on any screen, even if it is off with the Moto X? If I remember right, the touchless controls were slower than the hotword detection, is that still true?
Any other differences anyone has experience with regarding touchless controls vs Ok Google and Google Voice Control would be helpful.
I'm considering jumping back into Android for my phone and the Moto X or Nexus 5 seem to be a cheap way to do it. Also considering the LG G3 (although a bit more expensive).
Thanks.
Moto's may be slower.... But no, the Google version won't work with your screen off, and trust me... "Any screen" detection on the N5 anyway... Is a decent battery drain. Battery conscious folk don't use it. ?

Anyone else having issues with the sensors and the moto display? I tend to see it turn on constantly especially in my car, not sure if the street lights are triggering it or that its motion sensitive. Is it supposed to be motion sensitive? I've realized just pushing the phone or shaking what its sitting on turns it on.

That's the point. Any time you move it or act like you may be trying to turn it on it shows moto display. Old X did this too. You do realize it uses like, no battery to show this, and this is the entire point of active display?
The notifications "breathe", too, they turn on and off regularly by themselves.
Gotcha, didn't realize it was sensitive to all motion, just thought the wave over it, the twist to turn on the camera, and just for notifications.
It is a bit disconcerting at first. I have to fight my instinct to worry about the battery and keep very still around the phone to avoid waking it up.
But I guess if it really does consume very little power I should learn not to worry about it.
Hi everyone,
I have a French Moto X 2014 newly updated to Lollipop and the proximity sensor has some issues.
I received the phone recently so I updated the phone immediately to 5.0. I can't say if the problem was there with 4.4.4.
The issue :
During calls, the proximity sensor works normally except when I call my voice mailbox. And especially when the dialpad is on-screen. The proximity sensor is then less sensitive and sometimes does not work at all : the screen stays on even if I completely cover the sensor.
On other calls, the proximity sensor is fast and reliable, the screen shuts down from farther than when I call my voice mail.
It's a really weird issue and I wonder if someone has this problem also.
Thanks
I think this is normal. This happens to me with my nexus 5 and on the moto x (when I had it) when I use the visual voicemail app. I don't think its a problem with the phone.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Yeah it happens to me too, but it happens no matter who I'm calling. Sometimes when I pull the phone away from my ear the notification shade is down or I'm in the clock app (presumably by way of Chronus which is my main home screen widget). I think it is a bug in android and not with the phone itself because like the poster above me stated, it also happens with my Nexus 5. Both my X and N5 are on 4.4.4.
Thanks guys for the info. It's kind of annoying though. I archived a message involuntarily with my cheek by clicking the dialer and it's a charged service... I'll be more cautious in the future.
Hi, does anyone else find that the screen brightness slider on the Z3 Compact is either, bright or dull and nowhere in between? The slider basically takes the screen from black to dull for most of the slider and then in the last very small bit it ramps up the brightness really quickly to full brightness? My wife's Moto G (1st gen) and Moto E (2015) both have much better brightness sliders.
Also the Moto G and Moto E have much better full brightness. They seem vastly brighter than the Z3 Compact. According to here and here the Z3 is supposed to be nearly double the amount of Nits.
So do you think there is something wrong with the screen?
Running lollipop. No customisations. UK edition.
Go to settings then go to Display then turn off adaptive brightness
I hope it works for you
sorry for bad english
Haven't bought a Phillips hue yet, but planning on changing my whole lighting system with Phillips hue. Now I own a Google Home mini, and a Lenovo Smart Display with Google Assistant. Both are connected, but will I be able to turn on the lights with both assistant? I use the Lenovo Smart Display as like a main console in my living room, because the screen just gives so much more features than the home I have. The camera shutter feature is also life-changing. Makes me feel more safe and less paranoid lol. Both are connected, I was wondering if it can connect with both assistant? Has anyone tried?
both are using google assistant which is mainly web based so both should work with your hue lights once they have been paired i have hue with my google home mini and they work like a charm
I'd actually recommend against doing whole house with Hue bulbs. I have them, and after doing a whole house conversion I think that getting smart switches is a much better way to go.

I see applications for both and I do have both. I splurged on a Leviton Z-wave dimmer switch for a couple of lights cause the Hue bulb price for that type of light was a little too rich for my blood. However, the individual bulbs do give me more granular control. For instance, I got a Hue motion sensor and hooked it up to two different lights in two different rooms so they act as night lights. There are uses for both, think it just depends on what you want and where the lights are imo.
I was wondering if their was a "hack" to have the ambient display active on my Pixel 2 XL. I know its the way AA works to keep the screen off etc but I get a lot of notifications that don't show up on my AA display and when I'm stopped I don't want to always unlock the phone every time to see my notifications.
Thanks!
