[Q] official kitkat for xperia SP? are custom kitkat stable? - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't have the phone and I am considering buying one and I have some questions
is there going to be an official kitkat for xperia SP?
I have seen custom kitkat roms, how stable are they? do they work as well as the official JB rom? (I mean ex. for htc desire, there are a lot of kitkat roms but none are as stable as the official rom (camera does not work well (videocam doesn't work at all), phone call issues, crashes, etc..)

Actually, I would put it this way, it's the same device, with just a little bit different software inside. The one with LB has a software limitation that does not let you install original android roms. Now, on most devices bootloader can be unlocked, and if your stuck with the one one that cannot, here I may be wrong, there are some versions of original android that can still be installed on such phones. However, customized stock roms work fine so you're not loosing much.

ZR is in lack with customized ROMs based on the stock rom
I'm tired of CM and other Roms
Only 2 roms are there based on stock...
Please developers..i beg you to develop more stock based roms

True..most powerful phone in that range
Really poor development, for no flashable zip recovery via clockworkmod that compatible with stock rom, so could switch easily from stock 4.3 to cyanogenmod roms
Already unlocked bootloader, cm reverted to stock, lack sony features like camera superior auto, album with geotagging, dualshock support, stamina mode, small apps ported for zr
Problem with stock is too much bloatware to drain battery

Are there any Kikat roms that work wth s on

Hi I wonder if anybody knows of any Kitkat roms that work on the Incredible s with s on. I want to upgrade my wife’s phone. I have been using Szezso's excellent VivoKat 4.4.4 for over a year now, but due to the demise of revolutionary I believe it is not possible to s off this phone any more so I am looking for a stable kitkat that does not need s off as an alternative . Many Thanks. Al-Man

Sony Xperia Z1 Lollipop 14.5.A.0.270

Recently I bought a Sony Xperia Z1 that came with Kitkat. It is worth to upgrade to the Lollipop 14.5.A.0.270 or it is better to stay with Kitkat?

In my opinion its better to unlock the bootloader and install a custom rom
As long as you don't want to unlock your bootloader you could safely upgrade to .270 and root your phone using kingoroot( then remove it using some scripts and install supersu)
Or just stay at .270...
You can also downgrade it back to KK using Flashtool if you don't like lollipop..
Lollipop has some issues (depends sometimes .... ) but for me its better than KK..
Also we are currently waiting the new official 5.1 rom which will fix most of the issues (I hope so)
Stay with KK
IMO It is better to use KitKat with this phone. You can tweak the hell out of it and play with multiple roms. The stock rom for Lollipop on this phone is a joke. You could quite easily use the same software running on z3 roms on this phone.
But for now I have one recommendation. This is my fave rom for Kitkat.

No, because you need Marshmallow sources from Sony, which they'll never release.
Z1 is done and obsolete. If you really want the latest Android version, download the unofficial CM/AOSP Marshmallow ROMs; otherwise, buy a new phone. Although CM/AOSP MM build has been released a while ago, they're still full of issues (camera is bad, low battery life, etc.). They're still under active development, so things may change in the future. I recommend staying with Lollipop because it's stable and has excellent battery life.

Thanks for your help.
I'm on 5.1.1 Kai rom + rockz1l kernel.
and I love sony features.(DSEE HX, Sony camera...)
So, I wish what I said, but it can't....sadly :crying:
maybe, buy used Z2 or X series is best choice in current situation.

People had success with porting Sense 6 to hammerhead, and it's surprisingly usable with some issues considering it's a non-source port for an entirely different device.
Porting a proprietary ROM is a pain as it mostly involves trial-and-error to find out what's preventing the ROM from booting up but we will see if a similar project appear for the Z1

Changing ROM for the first time ! Questions !

Hi folks, I have an Xperia SP for almost 3 years, I decided to change the ROM (finally).
So... I'm on the Android rooted 4.1.2 12.0.A.2.254 , couldn't do the upgrade to 4.3 because of my internet connetion.
I would like to know if there is a smooth and stable rom which have all things working (including the LED Bar).
Oh and on Android Kitkat or Lollipop if it is possible.
Sorry For anything I did or said wrong, I'm new here, and my English is not very good
And I never flashed a smartphone before.
Thank you !
I used lots of roms and here is the veredict:
For KitKat: Vanir ROM(the most stable and functional rom of all)
For Marshmallow(lollipop was almost abandoned by devs ): CM13 SABERMOD is reallyyyy smooth and stable.
Both worked with Discolight app...
Sorry for bad english,I'm Brazilian...

There are many ROM we have for xperia SP due to dedicated efforts of devs ..Thanks to all of them :good::highfive:
I have used most of roms and found all stable and each of them have their own characteristics & Each rom description says about stability and working features of it.
so its totally depend on you which one you want to flash.
For 6.0-6.1 based rom check below thread:-

only thing you should look for before flashing any rom is it suitable for boot-loader status or not..means if your boot loader is locked then flashing roms made for unlocked boot-loader may take you in bootloop.
What is the best solution for SP with not unlockable bootloader.
on my aunt´s SP stock firmware 4.3 JB is pretty much slow, I was looking for CM 13 first, but I cannot unlock bootloader unfortunately , then I looked for CM 12/12.1 but seems SIM is not working, so I gues, no phone calls?
Is there anyone in the same situation as me. guys what do you suggest?
