[Q] Used Nexus One - fresh start

Hi,
I have purchased a used Nexus One running stock 2.3.3 (with locked bootloader) and I am wondering how I am going to wipe it as if it were a brand new install (no residual settings, apps, accounts etc)?
I have done a bit of research and found that the recovery allows you to wipe data, is this what I would do?

if you're not rooted then this is your only option.it works well. to do a recovery wipe then you will need root and a custom recovery installed.

I thought it was the same thing? You can wipe in stock recovery...can't you?

[Q] CAN'T connect to PLAY STORE after update to 4.3.1 (cm 10.2.20131102-SNAPSHOT -M1)

Wish I stayed with 4.2.2
This was allegedly a STABLE version as those are the only ones Im pdating to per my CM update settings.
I do not use nightlies.
Unfortunately I lost connection to GOOGLE PLAY STORE on both of my Nook hd+ tablets...same night I ran the update to 4.3 from 4.2
Im getting the constant *No connection..Retry* error.
Watched many *fix-it* videos on YouTube.....none of the tricks worked.
cleared, data, cache, force stopped, rebooted, unistalled, reinstalled......nothing.
unistalled again 4.4.21 and even istalled the latest 4.4.22 Gogle play store......still the same error.
very frustrated since this was allegedly a STABLE version.
Now I cannot access the Play Store with both of our tablets.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated !

Did you remember to upgrade your gapps when you moved to cm 10.2? It requires 20130813.

That did the trick.....
I remember the need for new gaps when 4.3 came out a while ago.
I thought it needed to be done only then by those that wanted to upgrade early.
I (wrongly) presumed that the new gapps would be included with new 'stable' versions CM ROMs.
(Especially since no warning or instructions for new gapps popped up during 4.3 installation).
Now I know that gapps is something that always needs to be installed separately.

That is not the whole name. It is gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip.

Yes, and none of the links work

File appears to be down for now. Try searching the web for alternate locations using the full name.

There is no need to look for newer version of Gapps. Just follow the guide below

The guide you linked attempts to look for solutions to the issue, which may not solve the issue.
The best/only way is to update gapps if you upgrade your Android version.
You can download all gapps from here: http://goo.im/gapps (they are current changing servers which host the files, so you may run into problems if you try right now; later on should be perfect).

I have the same issue and I did update the gapps after I updated to the cm10.2. But I still can't access the store. I have internet, but nothing Google. I've flashed gapps twice after realizing I had no play access. Any ideas?

Have you tried clearing the cache for the store? Do you use any custom resolutions or DPI settings?

all i did was do an upgrade. then loaded the appropriate gapps.zip. idk how to delete the cache from the store itself. also whenever i try to use anything google related, it basically cause the gapps process to force close.

Go to settings apps all you will find all the Google apps listed there. If that doesn't work do a factory reset and try again,

I had all the same issues, but when i rent to a rest i still didn't have any Google services. I tried a new cw11 nightly and now i can't get past the nook boot screen. Hiw do i get back to a functional nook hd+?

To get back to a functional HD/HD+, go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and make a bootable CWM SD. Use that to flash a plain stock zip from item 6 followed by a factory reset with CWM. That should take you back to stock and you should be able to start over.

If I Create a CWM SD will it boot up? I'm not even getting past the nook screen of the bootscreen. I can't get to a recovery menu to even load a mod.

It should, but others have reported problems getting a CWM SD to boot after installing CM11 and CWM 6045+ to internal memory.

Nope, didn't work. My NookHD+ doesn't gets passed the Nook boot screen. Is there something I'm missing that can at least get me passed the Nook boot screen or is it just toast?

Rooted+twrp factory reset

Dear all, my questions might have been answered already, but the search function was not really helpful.
I am trying to do a reset like the factory reset, so to delete all except the system data...even the music and pictures....without sideloading a software....is it possible?

Not sure what you mean about sideloading software. If you're OK with deleting your OS as well, the full wipe feature in TWRP will definitely do that. But that will leave you with NOTHING except TWRP, so don't do that unless you're willing and able to use adb to push a new ROM to the phone (there won't be anything saved on your SD) and flash it.

Well that exactly what I meant by writing sideloading (adb push) is there any way to avoid that?),

umm I suppose you could try using the Advanced wipe in TWRP, it's an option after you click the WIPE button. It gives you a list of partitions you want to wipe. I suppose in theory you could wipe all but the system but I'm not sure if that's a good idea. I'd take a nandroid backup first (and put it on your computer.)

This is perfectly safe. You should do "advanced wipe" and format userdata partition and sdcard. Just don't wipe "system".

Amazon App Store force closing in CM11

So far, I'm enjoying the latest build of CM11. I do have one problem, though. Whenever I try to launch the Amazon App Store, it force closes instantly. It worked fine in 10.2. I have tried fresh installs, Titanium Backup restoration, and multiple data and cache wipes. I have also tried it in dalvik and ART.
The regular Amazon app opens just fine.
Anyone got any ideas what's up and how to fix it?

I use amazon app store (the android app store from amazon) everyday and no problem that I can remember. So it does work fine in cm11.
Your using a fresh copy downloaded from amazon itself? Not some hacked one [or old one]. You sound like you know what your doing after-all.
Make sure your on the latest cm11 nightly as well.
After that, don't know. I don't know how to replicate it on my device.
Maybe, another app or setting is messing with it but I can't think of any to cause that problem. I use the privacy settings for instance and no issues.

Clean install, fresh download (to avoid any weirdness from backed up copy). Oh well. Maybe I'll go back to reinstalling everything from a completely clean wipe one app at a time.
Oh well. Worst case scenario is that I download and install on my S3, then Dropbox the FAotD apk so I can put it on the tablet.

If your talking about titanium backup. Believe I restored all my apps from 10.2 onto cm11 with it - don't remember installing amazon fresh and new - though I can't remember anymore. I'm not in the titanium backup causes problems with older app backups crowd. Obviously, it may somewhere far enough down the line and that's of little concern to me especially when one can just:
I would backup the rom fully in recovery, wipe, flash new cm11 and cm11 compatible gapps. Then reboot and install only amazon app store and see if it FCs then. That should be possible if I'm not missing something. Minimum possible. Try also via titanium but first try clean app install of only amazon and get that out of the way.
Make as few setting changes as possible too.
If it doesn't work then... wow (hardware issue?)

I got it working. When I updated to the 3/28 nightly, I formatted system twice. I think I was lazy and used the standard wipe in TWRP before. I got it all fixed up and rocking again.

[Q] Kindle UI/Menu Bar disappeared

My Menu/Notification bar has disappeared on my Kindle. My Kindle has never been rooted and never touched any files that have to do with the system. Any help will be appreciated.

I assume you have rebooted it?
Unfortunately, I have very little experience with the Kindle OS. You could try a factory reset.

If you have Gmail installed it cab make your status bar disappear on the stock ROM. Best thing to do is reboot

Pull it off onto your PC. If you had root you could use TitaniumBU but you don't so put what you want to keep from your internal storage onto your PC. Kindle don't have a file explorer so you will need to download one first so you can access the internal storage.
