170 USB error is usually a problem with your drivers, are the installed correctly, both when in a booted rom and also in the bootloader, in Device manager it should say MyHTC, anything else then please refer to FAQ 2 here by @nkk71 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52135024&postcount=2
Also which version of windows are you using and whichg RUU are you trying to flash, are you sure its the correct RUU for your device ? could you post your fastboot getvar all without imei and serial number.

fastboot getvar all just comes up with waiting for device
I am on Windows 8.1 (pain)
The RUU is RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.20.401.1_Radio_4A.13.3227.06_10.27.1127.01_release_308001_signed_2_4.exe

if your getting waiting for device then you don't have drivers installed, download HTC Sync Manager from the HTC site and install, once done go into add / remove programs and remove HTC Sync only leave HTC driver installer alone, when you plug your phone back in it should load the required drivers, if it comes up with Android 1.0 or One, refer back to that FAQ 2.
try and post your fastboot getavr all after that.
EDIT, 1.44 wont work with windows 8+ you'll need to use a Linux bootable or Windows 7.
---------- Post added at 01:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:44 PM ----------
in fact, thinking about it, you wont be able to use an RUU.exe in Linux, so your only choice is going to be windows 7.
are you trying to strong brush firmwave ?
I don't think you need ! you just need a third part of recovery ,like cwm, twrp etc. and download a rom of you device(you can find for forum) then flash it . easy and Convenient!Don't always strong brush! so complicated ...now, I think you can flash a recovery

i'd recommend you just make an ubuntu live USB (check the FAQ linked earlier) and use that to flash the decrypted ruu.zip

yes,
Assuming you have an HTC One M7_UL (since you didn't post a "fastboot getvar all" excluding IMEI and s/n, I don't know what phone you have)
1- create an Ubuntu Live USB (no need to install it, you can boot it from a USB stick): FAQ #5 here
2- download the ruu.zip M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.7 and check MD5, suitable for:
Code:
modelid: PN0710000
cidnum: HTC__001, HTC__E11, HTC__102, HTC__203, HTC__405, HTC__Y13, HTC__304, HTC__032, HTC__A07, HTC__J15, HTC__016
rename the file to "ruu.zip"
3- flash it in ruu mode: In bootloader/FASTBOOT USB, flash it:
sudo fastboot oem rebootRUU
sudo fastboot flash zip ruu.zip
sudo fastboot flash zip ruu.zip <- yes TWICE, the first one will report “failed flush again”, the second one will succeed.
sudo fastboot reboot-bootloader
(sudo is needed in linux terminal for fastboot commands to work).
Does that help?

Hello XDA,
I have noticed a lot of Sprint(CDMA) HTC One users on the latest 4.3/4.4.2 OTA are flashing 4.3/4.4.2 GSM roms and soft bricking their devices lately.
I have personally rescued a several devices in the past couple months so I'm posting this guide in hopes that it will save some headaches and stress for Sprint users.
This guide is for Sprint HTC One users only.
3.04.651.2 RUU Thanks @OMJ
3.05.651.6 RUU From HTC
4.06.651.4 RUU Thanks @OMJ and @-viperboy-
5.03.651.3 RUU Thanks @OMJ **Note you will have to update your hboot to 1.57 in order for this RUU to work...solution is flash the 5.03.651.3 s-on firmware first.**
5.05.651.2 RUU
6.23.651.6 RUU Latest from htc.com
Device not recognized? (If you are using Windows 8.1 this will most likely not work unless your hboot is 1.55 or 1.56 or 1.57)
On your PC go to device manager and find your phone(usually M7WLS), right click and select properties
Select the driver tab
Select update driver
Select browse my comp
Let me pick
Look for ADB USB device or similar should be one of the first couple choices
Select MyHTC install and you should be good
Latest HTC Drivers AFH
Video showing how to flash the firmware Thanks @thoughtlesskyle
If you are S-OFF flash
3.04.651.2 s-off firmware
3.05.651.5 s-off firmware
3.05.651.6 s-off firmware
4.06.651.4 s-off firmware
5.03.651.3 s-off firmware
5.05.651.2 s-off firmware (Sense 6) and you are done.
If you are already on 4.06.651.4 or 4.06.651.9 you will have to flash the 3.05.651.6 s-off firmware first...reason being is the 4.06 s-off firmware does not have the latest radio included (use the same commands from 5.)
6.23.651.6 s-off firmware Latest and most likely the last.
**Note the 5.03.651.3 firmware has a new radio so no need to flash the older version to get the radio.**
If you are s-on follow these steps ALL the way to the end (there are no shortcuts unless you are s-off and step 9 is optional as noted)
1.Download
3.04.651.2 s-on firmware
3.05.651.5 s-on firmware
3.05.651.6 s-on firmware
4.06.651.4 s-on firmware
5.03.651.3 s-on firmware
5.05.651.2 s-on firmware (Sense 6)
6.23.651.6 s-on firmware Latest and most likely the last.
2.Rename it firmware.zip (put the firmware.zip into the platform tools folder or the folder attached below)
3.Boot to bootloader
4.Lock bootloader(fastboot oem lock)
5.Then use these commands:
Code:
Fastboot oem rebootRUU
Fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
Fastboot reboot-bootloader
6.If you get this error after the second command(most likely will)
Code:
failed 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately
press the UP Arrow on your keyboard and press enter to issue the command again.
7.Then unlock the bootloader again and re-flash Latest TWRP. (before formatting go to setting/screen and disable screen timeout)
8.Within Latest TWRP select Wipe > Format Data(it will ask you to confirm by typing YES) once done adb push a rom to your phone (adb push nameofrom.zip /sdcard/ ).
8a. If you are using the 4.06.651.4 s-on firmware I would suggest you push this Stock Rooted Odexed Rom to your device or it may not boot.
8b. After flashing the 4.06.651.4 rom you will most likely need to flash the latest radio because the 4.06 firmware does not have a radio included find it HERE
8c. If you are using the 5.03.651.3 s-on firmware I would suggest you push this 5.03.651.3_Stock | Rooted | 4.4.2 | Sense 6 to your device or it may not boot.
8d. If you are using the 6.23.651.6 s-on firmware I would suggest you push this [STOCK ROM] [5.0.2] [SENSE 6] Sprint 6.16.651.2 AND 6.23.651.3 to your device or it may not boot.
9.Optional but recommended: S-OFF using Sunshine
10.Win lol :victory:
Thanks @OMJ for the firmware
Thanks @thoughtlesskyle for the 5.03.651.3 firmware and stock odex rom
Thanks @beaups and @Fuses for Rumrunner and Firewater
Thanks @WayneQuasar for helping me figure out the correct order to do these steps(many hours and many failed attempts before we figured it out lol)

So I got the drivers installed but when I enter adb sideload on my phone it still just says starting. I tried sideloading a rom anyways and a whole mess of stuff shows up but doesn't reboot my phone or anything.
Hi All,
I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff, but I've learned a lot over the last day. I soft bricked my HTC One Developer Edition while trying to do the most recent OTA update to 4.4.
What happens:
When booting normally, it goes initially to the normal white HTC screen, then to a "pink" screen (it's mostly pink, but it's really just messed up graphics), then goes to the HTC One loading screen (except BEATS is blue instead of red). Then it just freezes on that loading screen.
I can boot into the bootloader and recovery (currently TWRP, but was stock when doing the OTA update)
What I've tried:
I've used Fastboot to flash TWRP, so that part is good. Within TWRP, I've wiped the cache, system, Dalvik.
I've tried using Fastboot to flash the RUU Zip file (first one in the list here) in both Windows and OSX, while in "FASTBOOT USB" mode and in RUU mode. Each time, it starts sending, but around 43-44 secs it fails with "remote:not allowed: For reference, the top of the bootloader screen says TAMPERED, then UNLOCKED. I'm running HBOOT 1.55 and have S-ON (but unlocked bootloader). OS shows 3.22.1540.1
I can't get past the remote:not allowed issue, and I'm not such an expert to know what to try next. Can anyone please give me some tips on what to do next? I've tried searching, but I don't know what exactly to search for.
Thank you all!

ok, first you can't flash that ruu you linked above (first in the list) because its a decrypted ruu. Decrypted ruu.zip require s-off and you are s-on. Whit s-on you can only flash signed ruu.
and btw did you enter ruu mode before ''fastboot flash zip rom.zip'' ?

Thank you for that explanation. I got into RUU mode by doing fastboot oem rebootRUU, which took me to a black screen with silver HTC. That may not be RUU mode...I'm just guessing.

I saw that I already had the 3.22.1540.1 zip file on my computer, so I tried. It got a lot further, but still failed with a remote:not allowed (see attached pic).
My next tries will be to re-download the file and try again, and if that fails, to try the RUU.exe file on the Windows 7 laptop. Is this correct, or is there something else I should try?
I'm leaving work now, so I won't be able to answer for another hour or so but thank you for your help thus far!

the ruu you have from the link you posted above is DECRYPTED it will not work with s-on!!!

ok, first you can't flash that ruu you linked above (first in the list) because its a decrypted ruu. Decrypted ruu.zip require s-off and you are s-on.

Sorry I didn't explain better - the file I meant was the one from HTCDevs - I downloaded it a while ago when I had a different issue. I just renamed it to rom1 or whatever. Is this then the correct file?
Also, the phone was not in RUU mode - it was in regular fastboot mode ("FASTBOOT USB"). I'll try again in RUU mode.

you can not flash ruu with fastboot. you MUST reboot phone in ruu mode using ''fastboot oem rebootRUU'' it will then reboot with a black screen and the htc logo. so:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip name_of_ruu.zip
fastboot flash zip name_of_ruu.zip <------ yes again!
fastboot reboot
When in ruu mode you'll have a screen similar to this:
then proceed with ''fastboot flash zip...................''

Ok, I booted into RUU mode and flashed the file twice as per your instructions. Both times it failed. Screenshot is attached. (I even tried it a 3rd time but it still failed with the same message)
Also, I renamed the zip file to rom1.zip just to make typing it easier, but it is the file from HTCDevs, "3.22.1540.1 Developer Edition", Zip (not RUU).
Thank you!

Ok, I tried it on the Windows 7 laptop and got another error (155 - unknown error). Pic is attached. It was in RUU mode btw.
I'm currently downloading the older 1.29.xx version (Android 4.1) and will try again with that.
Just for my own knowledge - how many "parts" (partitions?) of the system are there? As in, there's the recovery partition, the "main" ROM, etc. Are those the only two? I only ask because I wonder if I messed up something in another part that makes the phone think it's not the Developer Edition? (the errors seem to point to using the wrong image, but I got it directly from HTCDevs and have now tried both the RUU and Zip versions.

I got it! I had to relock my bootloader for some reason. Then, the Windows RUU installed fine.
Thank you alray for your help!
Is being stuck at the booting screen (Htc one with beats audio (red color)) same as this scenario ? Is it soft bricked or boot looped or what's it called?
I'm S-off, rooted, stock rom, hboot is 1.56 w/ CWM. At some point the phone just rebooted on its own (I was even in a different place at that time!!!) and got stuck forever at that screen. Rebooting would just make it get stuck there again. bootloader, custom recovery all work.
what do?

Mine did get stuck there, but after a weird messed up pink screen (and the Beats text was blue, not red for some reason). If I was in your boat, I'd just flash a fresh rom and be done.

2- So you're on completely stock ROM?
3- are you able to enter recovery?
4- have you simply tried "fastboot erase cache" and tried booting?

Thanks man!
Let's get this started:
1- done, see attached.
2- yes, up to latest OTA but i was rooted.
3- yes , CWM
4- done, still gets stuck at the same screen.
now: million $ question - is there a way to get out of this stupid problem without having to lose any data at all ? one gets quite sick at having to wipe and restore backups everytime there's a booting problem with the phone. i remember with the SGS2 i just had to reflash with odin the rom i was using and boom, back in order!

Well first I would recommend you update recovery to TWRP
2.6.3.3: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
or 2.6.3.4: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7ul
since they are more compatible when flashing 4.4 ROMs (make sure to check MD5 on the files, that site doesn't play nice with download managers!)
Code:
[B]fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader[/B]
-> enter recovery
Second, in TWRP, make a nandroid backup, you may need it later *** (please check below)
Third, put a ROM on the phone (in custom recovery):
Code:
C:\ADB3>[B]adb devices[/B]
List of devices attached
HT34xxxxxxxx recovery <- you need to be in recovery
[B]adb push <name of rom>.zip /sdcard/[/B] <- this will take about 5 mins without any progress
and install the ROM, don't select WIPE during installation, and you should have your million $ question solved... all apps, data, etc should be there, but if you get apps crashing it's because of the "dirty-flash"
As to which ROMs you can use for the above procedure, there's is a 100% stock version of 4.19.401.9 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224752
I'm personally using ARHD 52.0 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183023 (stock but with improvements, and rooted)
I haven't checked if there's a 100% stock 4.20.707.6 ROM around, so you could do some googling and see.
Hope that helps
*** once you've done the backup, you can try wiping "data, cache, dalvik", and then restore the nandroid... sometimes that works
if not keep the nandroid, as it has all the information, and you can use Nandroid Manager (in play store) to extract individual information, if need be.
Good Luck

Yesterday i want to root my Htc 802w Dual Sim China Unicom
i followed the procedures of a website (i forget the website)
- First, I have Unlocked my bootloader --> succesfully
- then, i have flash recovery via fastboot and succesfully installed CWM (file name is cwm802w.zip) ---> succesfully
- after that, i try to install SuperSU (file name is SuperSU-root-v1.25.zip) and i copy to my Sd Card root and flash it via CWM recovery ---> its seems like succesfully rooted but..my Root Explorer app say still has not rooted <--- but I ignored it..,and resume to the next step immediately.
- in the next step, i copy ROM_Cleaner_v2.2.zip and Romcleaner_user.txt to my SD card root
- i goin to Cwm Recovery mode and try to flashing Romcleaner (i think ive made mistake, and also i forget to Backup my phone *OMG!!!) when phone rebooted, the screen show "Android upgrading...and stuck there :crying:
I waited too long, so i turn off my phone immediately, turn on it , Phone is On with Black screen but can still received Call.
Im panicked sir, cause this is my Sister phone.
so, i try to (BIG MISTAKE) download any Custom and flash .img file also flash the ROM from CWM Recovery, (i think This might be a way out from this,BUT...)

First, remove your imei and serialno from the getvar all!
You can try to run the RUU for your phone. You can get it from here. It should be PN07IMG_M7C_DUG_K44_SENSE60_MR_HTCCN_CHS_CU_5.15.1 402.3_Radio_1237.28.34.0106_release_373024_signed_ 2.zip - 1.10 GB. Please check the MD5 after you download it. You will have to relock your bootloader to run the RUU since you are S-ON. This will put you back to stock then you can decide where you want to go from there.

I got the file from [Collection] HTC Dual Sim 802d, 802t, 802w - Official RUU, OTA and CWM and for your phone there are two KK RUU but only one that matches your MID, CID and OS. I could not find a firmware package for your phone. Can you find another computer to try the RUU on or do you have a Linux computer to try? This post will explain how to put Linux on a USB stick, that way you can boot from the usb stick and keep your window files intact. While in Linux put sudo in front of the fastboot commands.
Since, you are presently able to get to the bootloader you could try to install CWM recovery. If that works, then try a custom rom for your phone version but do not install Rom Cleaner. :fingers-crossed:

I had another thought. Go to the [Collection] and download the earlier RUU 4.21.1402.3. Then try to install it, it should fail but it may setup something to make the RUU 5.15.1402.3 complete properly.

Flashing a RUU is the best way to return a phone to stock. It puts all of the pieces in the correct places. Usually to successfully flash a RUU for S-ON phones, the bootloader is locked, CID & MID must match, hboot must be the same or higher and the OS must be the same or higher. Double check to see if your bootloader is LOCKED or RELOCKED. The other thing is the PC, it may be interfering with how the RUU is operating.

can you post a "fastboot getvar all" excluding IMEI and s/n
it looks like you messed up some things, including your misc partition, fix that first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2739126
then use an RUU
PS: you'll need to have bootloader unlocked, if you can't manage to unlock it in this state, let me know (but i'll need the output of your getvar all, excluding IMEI and s/n)

First off, make sure you're not on Windows 8.1, use Win7 or ubuntu or mac.
flash the attached file (that will downgrade hboot to 1.44, and install the noBCB recovery):
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip fw_hb144_twrp-nobcb.zip
fastboot flash zip fw_hb144_twrp-nobcb.zip <- yes TWICE
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
-> enter RECOVERY
then follow the steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2739126 to fix your corrupted misc partition.
once done, use https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358544977 to reset everything back to stock (in case something else is corrupt)
rename the above file to ruu.zip:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip ruu.zip
fastboot flash zip ruu.zip <- yes TWICE
fastboot reboot-bootloader
i tried that didnt work

can you be more specific, which "step 2" doesn't work, also best to copy/paste your command prompt output (please copy/paste, screenshots are very hard to read).

Do you have htcsync installed on your pc it's known to cause problems with RUU mode. If so uninstall htcsync but keep the drivers.
Then try flash the RUU again

It would really help, if you copy/pasted your command prompt output.
Let's break this down again:
Step 1
First off, make sure you're not on Windows 8.1, use Win7 or ubuntu or mac.
Step 2
flash the attached file (that will downgrade hboot to 1.44, and install the noBCB recovery):
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip fw_hb144_twrp-nobcb.zip
fastboot flash zip fw_hb144_twrp-nobcb.zip <- yes TWICE
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
Step 3
-> enter RECOVERY
then follow the steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2739126 to fix your corrupted misc partition.
Step 4
once done, use https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358544977 to reset everything back to stock (in case something else is corrupt)
rename the above file to ruu.zip:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip ruu.zip
fastboot flash zip ruu.zip <- yes TWICE
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Am understanding correctly that
Step 1: confirmed
Step 2: successful
Step 3: completed successfully
Step 4: this is where you get stuck??
Reboot the ruu

your pc completely freezes
then either fix your PC issues (whatever they may be, drivers, antivirus programs, firewalls, etc), or make life simple and make an Ubuntu Live USB (no need to install it, you can boot directly off a USB stick), check FAQ #5 here

You don't need drivers for your phone on ubuntu. If you have ubuntu running with adb/fastboot installed that's all you need. It will work

Short explanation: My internal storage isnt recognized in android os and it is in twrp.
Long explanation
I followed a video on how to root a htc one m7 on youtube. This was my first time I ever rooted a phone.
I did a backup of the stock os after installing twrp and have it till this day on the phones internal storage.
I recently wanted to install multirom, it installed with an error. So I found an "uninstallmultirom.zip" file somewhere in the internet and from that moment...
My internal storage isnt recognized in android os but it is in twrp.
PS: I restored the phone using the backup I created earlier. It didnt fix the issue.
HTC ONE M7 Info:
version-main: 7.18.161.2
carrier: Vodafone UK
android version: 5.0.2
Is unlocked.

Everything was explained in the link I gave you at post #2. (read the OP):
How To Flash
1. Rename file to RUU.zip
2. Place it in adb folder
3. Reboot phone to fastboot mode
4. S On need to relock bootloader (fastboot oem lock) , S Off lock not needed
5. Also use the htc_fastboot.exe not the normal fastboot.exe
get the htc_fastboot.exe here : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934539737
Rename htc_fastboot to fastboot or if you don't rename it, then the command will be "htc_fastboot flash zip RUU.zip"
Run the following commands from your adb folder:
6. htc_fastboot oem rebootRUU
7.htc_fastboot flash zip RUU.zip
8.htc_fastboot reboot-bootloader

Like yatin said, you need to use htc's fastboot to flash this ruu, not the normal fastboot. Rename your normal fastboot to "fastboot_old" like suggested by yatin then downloa htc's fastboot and save it in the same folder you have your old fastboot. once done open a command prompt:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip ruu.zip
fastboot reboot
