Hey all,
I just purchased this NOTE3 SM-N900A, the dork didnt send me a SM-N900T. In any case what I would like to do is root it with an custom ROM. I have tried ODIN about ten times this morning using the T-Mobile md5 file and I keep getting an error about Secure Magiccode Check Fail: Recovery.
The phone is suppose to be rooted but I cant tell.
I have Samsung Sii,SII and S4 but this one (Note 3) is giving me some problems.
Any and all information will be greatly appreciated to get rid of the ATT stuff and just install a custom ROM. I dont care about any warranties and or the KNOX stuff.
I want to install the TMO firmware with the correct modems.
All suggestions and or comments will be greatly appreciated.
on the ODIN SCREEN it states WRITE PROTECTION Enable.
Videos are welcome too!!
Ciao~
Brad
Honestly you may be best off selling the 900A. AT&T has locked the bootloader, so custom roms are limited to one's that work with the stock kernel (basically only touchwiz based roms, no AOSP, CM etc...)

Well Damn, what I really want to add the TMO Firmware. I have it unlocked and rooted, but I want the TMO modems.
It's been done before, there are several threads about it on here somewhere...

The only way to MAYBE flash ROMS is still in ALPHA testing and it is not a true flash but a way to load ROMS and fake the boot system.
Currently there is no way to flash ROMS to this phone.

From what i saw in the thread about safe strap the ROMS have to be tweaked to work with safestrap so only ROMS developed around safestrap will work.. Even then it is still iffy if they will fully work.

Solarenemy68's reply seemed easy to understand to me. Are you having difficulty understanding it? In case you did not understand it...you can NOT flash ANY rom on the att N3. None. Zip. Nadda. Nothing. The bootloader is locked. Without an unlocked bootloader, you are not currently able to flash a new rom. If you do, you will brick your N3. Period.
If you want to flash new roms on a N3, you should have purchased a T-Mo N3 as that bootloader was not locked.
I hope this clarifies things for you.

Wow! Bad day at work?
We can flash roms using safe strap recovery by @Hashcode . It works fine and even gives you "multi boot" that most devices would die for!
Roms are coming already and things are getting good. International roms can be ported. T-Mobile roms run without much of a fuss.
We CANNOT flash bootloader, kernels, or modems. But with a locked bootloader this is about as good as it gets.
If your going to give someone information, at least give them correct information.

Didn't have a bad day. Didn't intend to sound rude. Your signature indicates that you have a N9005 not a N900A. If I am mistaken, please correct me. I've had a N900A since launch day and have been following the development quite closely, I thought. While the N9005 and the N900T have unlocked bootloaders, I have not seen anything other than alpha testing for the N900A, and @Hashcode has not yet released Safestrap for the N900A.
Please post some links for loading roms onto the N900A, or apologize as it is you that seems to be providing the incorrect information that can potentially damage someone's device. If you are correct about SAFELY flashing roms onto the n900A, I will post an apology to you and the OP.
Thank you.

I do indeed apologize. SS became available on the 16th and the first flashable rom became available yesterday. I missed both.
Apparently, roms are now flashable via SafeStrap. My apologies to the OP as well.

Ok so I see that there's aesop roms for this device, is this the AT&T version?
I know for the AT&T s4 you had to have a certain baseband or modem in order to install custom roms on it.
Is this the case for the S4 active AT&T version? or does it have an unlocked bootloader and ANY version you have you can root/install custom roms?

There are two versions of the Galaxy S4 Active: the U.S./AT&T version (model # SGH-i537) and the international version (model # SGH-i9295). The answer to your question depends entirely on which one you have. As far as I understand the international version has an unlocked bootloader and therefore is capable of running AOSP-based roms, custom recovery, etc.
HOWEVER. If you have the U.S. version i537 (and I suspect you do given you mention AT&T) your bootloader is locked and unfortunately there is nothing you, I, or the devs can do about it. You simply cannot flash AOSP ROMs or recoveries. There is still a way to root this phone and a piece of software called SafeStrap that acts like a custom recovery (nandroid backups, install zips, wipe data, etc.). You can run custom roms, but there's a huge catch: you have to keep the stock kernel and any rom has to be touchwiz-based.

Yes, you just need to flash the 4.4.2 modules afterwards.
I have hunted around for an answer, but couldn't find anything that made sense.
I switched carriers (At&t to T-mobile) and have unlocked the IMEI, but I run into metric F--- Tons of issues.
So is it possible to load the Galaxy S6 Tmobile stock rom, or even a custom rom onto my At&t Galaxy S6? If so how do I do it?
Thanks for any help!

Given our AT&T version has a locked bootloader and is also the only derivative still on 5.0.2, there is quite literally nothing you can do. Being on T-mobile now, I would sell that G920A for G920T in a heart beat.
You may be able to root and install XtreStoLite rom v1.5 for increased performance and battery life, but that will never get you things like wifi calling. (which you'll probably need on T-mob)

You have to downgrade to KitKat, root with towelroot, then upgrade with root, I've described the process in the following post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63639949&postcount=2
You can root your phone, it just takes a little work. Make sure to back up anything important because internal storage will be wiped at one point

There aren't any fully working 5.0.1 ROMs for this phone. There is one in this thread, but it breaks camera as far as I understand:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-active/general/golden-eye-v52-s4-active-wip-t3094259
Also thanks to the stupid locked bootloader, any rom for this phone has to be touchwiz-based (i.e. able to run on the stock kernel). No custom recovery, no cyanogenmod, no AOSP. But yeah, like that thread says, even the 5.0.1 touchwiz ROMs seem to break the camera when installed on this phone
thats what i thought thx

It is a touchwiz ROM with S6 port and it should work with your stock kernel, however to get wifi working you will need to have matching modems, kernel and files from /system/etc/wifi of the same firmware
let me look and see if anyone has these matching drivers per say for the hardware on here i think i saw someone posted it awhile back for my device thx

Have you disabled signature verification (not sure if this option is available in flashfire - assuming that you are using flashfire to flash the ROM)
I did some checking on AT&T models and I was quite surprised that S4 AT&T (i337) users are using my WizCyan ROM for S4 on their device with the imperium kernel without any issues. If that is the case, I cannot see any reason why my ROM will not work on your device. I have my own kernel compiled from I9295 TW kernel sources with almost the same commits as the imperium kernel (there are previous ported versions of imperium kernel on my kernel thread as well) included in the ROM.
I don't know if I am missing something....
Since my bootloader is locked i cannot add toggle signature verification sorry to troll a old phone but my s6 edge plus is broke and dont have the money now to replace it but i appreciate all your guys help ....i have used flashfire and dont see a option to turn off sig verification either wish i could then perhaps it would work...btw my model is atat i537 so maybe the i337 works but mine dont not sure why

Are people still working on cracking the AT&T G870A or is it a lost cause?
If yes, how's it going?
I had a G870F but sent it swimming on 20m deep for three weeks. Needless to say it didn't survive.
Found the G870A and thought it was a bargain, however . . .
Pretty much a lost cause, most devs have moved on.
So the answer is not so straight forward. The current v 5.1 and above for the AT&T phones are not currently rootable. If you find a used or remanufactured S5 or S5 Active with 4.2 you will be in luck. I just had a problem with my Active found a replacement on the most popular buying and selling web site for around $230. Just make sure it has not been updated. If the seller is advertising it as 4.2 and you get it with 5.0 they must take it back if it's not what was advertised. Hope this helps.
If you want an S5 to tinker with you should get a tmobile variant the SM-G900T, or the international SM-G900M since the active model is basically a carrier exclusive they dont have any international ones that im aware of.
I dont understand the question of OP
I used a popular search and found rooted firmwares for the 870A.
Several people who replied have in their sigs that they have a rooted s5 Active..... I would think that to mean the phone has been "cracked" and isn't a lost cause.

so its isn't the android version per say bu the bootloader that comes with it?
So one couldn't just flash a 5.0 firmware, is that what you're also saying?
pardon my ignorance, but when one flashes a firmware -- that wont impact the bootloader will it...

When you update the firmware, it automatically updates the bootloader. Once that bootloader has been updated, it's locked down. No downgrading firmwares, rooting, or installing custom recoveries.

Yeah, that's basically what I gathered after a lot of research online.
Some claim it can be done but when trying the method/software, it doesn't work.
I just wanted to double check since there is a lot of expert knowledge in this forum.
One thing i've been thinking though (not that I can do it): how about picking the phone apart
and wiping/replacing the bootloader manually?

Well it's soldered to the board. You would need some highly specialized equipment to do it. Even then I'm not sure.

Is this the case with both the G900A and the G870A. I'm in the market for either one since they are going for just of $200 new on Ebay. Are both phones now locked down of is the Active more problematic?
Both are locked down. AT&T and Samsung are being jerks to us and not even letting us have a developer phone to try to use like Verizon had.

If you are looking to root, then buy one that still has Android v4.4.2. They are available you just have to look for them. Don't put the SIM card in until you root or it will auto update and you can't go back.

Nope can't because of locked bootloader. The best thing you could do is too root with towelroot and then flash safestrap and install a custom rom from there.

http://rootmygalaxy.net/install-cm-13-rom-on-galaxy-s5/
http://androiding.how/download-galaxy-s5-cm13-rom-marshmallow/
I'm guessing they may not be correct?
