[Q] SGN Rooted. Which ROM now?

Hey, Sorry for the Noob question but I rooted my Note a couple of days ago (Still a Newbie) and was wondering which ROMs would be best to flash now.
I've been using the rooted phone but I couldn't find much of a difference in performance or anything. Actually, I don't even know how or what to remove to increase performance and battery life.
So if you guys could just help me out with this it would be real Helpful!
Question :
Which ROM is the easiest to work with? Since I'm a newbie I have a whole lot of chance that I might just do something stupid and end up with a Hard-bricked phone.
Any help is appreciated..!
Once again, I apologize for being a noob. I haven't really learned a lot about android phone since this is my first!

The first thing I'm going to ask you is, what is your current installed ROM? Stock GB or stock ICS?
If it's still in stock GB (2.3.6), I was using CheckRom Revo HD.

It gives you some customization while giving you a boost in your battery life. Please read and read on the appropriate forums here in xda on how to install and use this ROM (if you want to)
Now if you want to upgrade to ICS stock 4.0, then can upgrade your ROM thru the standard way, OTA or thru PC KIES. Either way, your phone gets updated with the official firmware and remains rooted still. You may want to check www.samfirmware.com for new official ICS firmware of your region.
On my personal note, I reckon ICS gives me much better life than when I was using GB. Don't forget to install the indispensable tools like Titanium backup so that you can freeze or uninstall samsung's bloatwares there by releasing some needed rams on your phone's memory and also increasing some juices on it.

Now, coming to the point. I am running Rooted Stock ICS 4.0.3 XXLP8.
Yes, I have installed Titanium Backup and have freezed some of the unusable Samsung applications which always kept running and slowed down my phone..!
I might flash GB for some custom ROM but I would prefer keeping it on ICS cause flashing GB and then some ROM would put me at a higher risk of bricking the phone.
Could you suggest some ICS based ROMs which might be easy for a first timer to handle?
I can flash other ROMs later when I am confident enough not to brick my phone.

Well, sorry to break your bubble bud but I'm not an ardent fan of custom ICS ROMS. I prefer the stock one for now. Personally Touchwiz ain't that bad (in my opinion).
Since your still using 4.0.3, try to just consider upgrading it to 4.0.4. By the way I am already on 4.0.4.
There are tons of stock firmwares for 4.0.4, depending on where your from. Try to use a kernel that's pretty much close to stock itself. I'm currently using SpeedMod v3.9 for now and I must say, From the stock kernel that I was using before (CF root LRG 4.0.4), the battery life on my phone have increased tremendously.
Now if you really still want to try out some other custom ROMS, you can try to read and read on this development thread here or get some reviews from other users as well.
JellyBean is almost a working ROM but I still prefer the stock 4.0.4 ICS one..why? let's just say I prefer to use my Note's 'all' features working and using it as a daily driver.

I don't think 4.0.4 is out in India yet (It wasn't there the last time I checked). I'll still keep checking in from time to time though and upgrade as soon as possible.
If I were to stay on 4.0.3 can I still use the SpeedMod v3.9 kernel you're talking about? Also, I could really use a link on how to flash the new kernel as you might have figured out by now, I'm a Newbie

You can flash DXLRG (open germany) or the latest one (DXLRK) to just upgrade it to 4.0.4
For Asian release, I heard there's one already for SingTel but I'm not sure though if it comes with an Indian language pack on it.

Now since your rooted, download Mobile Odin, run it, grant access thru Superuser and go to the kernel section inside Mobile Odin pro and look for the kernel that you earlier saved from the download.
After that, just tap on flash firmware (inside Mobile Odin still) and that would restart your phone and once booted, you now have a new kernel already.

as per your query: Fastest one available is RocketRom v12 based on Samsung TW ROM XXLRT ICS 4.04

I've been looking for the fastest rom mostly in terms of gaming, but also for UI--how long it takes for a window to close, the dialer to come up, etc.
I've tried most of the new jb leaks and a few older ics roms.
The single FASTEST rom I've seen so far is CM10 with the latest hydracore oc kernel and bloat apps stripped away. No, it is not ics, but is faster than any ics rom.
There are some things I don't like about it, mostly with the way it looks, but in terms of pure speed--nothing I've seen so far matches it. It is lightning fast.
The new jb leaks are very nice--they look better than any other roms I've seen, but no way are they as fast as CM10. Not even close.

If you willing to try JB.
Paranoid Android 2.5.0(not 2.5.1) + Hydracore 7.1 kernel +Nova Launcher is blazing fast, I mean like Note2 kind of smooth.
So far only 1 bug I know of, the volume with earphones are quite low(they fixed this in 2.5.1 but induce A LOT of bugs and memory leak came back.
The headphone output is lower than normal but not SUPER low. totally acceptable.

I'm willing try any. The paranoid android and cm10 both say i must flash from a cm9 or aosp rom and not a stock ics due to bricking. Im running the latest xlsa again, is that a aosp rom and im safe to flash?

That isn't true at least not for me and I've tried both, repeatedly. NFS most wanted and Dark Knight both have visible slowdowns on jb leaks but not on cm10.

Tried to install paranoidandroid in cwm and it came up error 7 or something.
Ive installed the latest 4.0.4 official rom (N7000XXLRU) but couldnt find one that was just for the UK so downloaded a foreign one and chose english as the language. Only thing is it had 6 or 7 apps that i had to uninstall as it was a foreign app. It works lovely though , very smooth and judder free.
Does anybody know where i can find a uk version of the XXLRU rom so it doesnt install these foreign apps?

root and efs backup first! save on multiple locations, of the phone especially. Especially if you are going to try different csc roms then your phone.
for best result, backup data like pictures (to external sd) and contacts (to gmail),not apps or app data. When rooted(will void warrantee), flash if on stock rom speedmod kernel (you need safe kernel for wiping) with mobile odin. Take out sim/external sd card, and format all in mounts in recovery mode (except efs), ignore error messages, factory wipe, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache(in advanced)
After this your pc odin install will be fresh and without stuff lingering that could cause all kind of issues. Just lije bot recovering your apps/app data. That could cause issues as well.

Stock German ROM on a Germany sourced Note, unmodified apart from rooting so that I can freeze bloatware with Titanium Backup. Having wiped and flashed with PC Odin instead of "upgrading" from ICS I find the ROM to be smooth and stable. Battery life is not as good as with ICS though. It's not hugely worse, but consistently lower.

This is my first Samsung phone, I was running Cyanogenmod on my last phone, so I was just wondering, should I install Cyanogen (or a different custom ROM. I'm not even sure if Cyanogen is available for this dvice) and have the full Google Android experience, or is the stock ROM good enough?
Form what I've read, Dmod is the best custom for this model?

For me, the stock was enough but since there's a tool kit to do everything, I was very tempted. I'm currently using Enox Revenge AMD3 v.3 (I'm using 8190L) and I thought the phone was fast enough, it's even faster. There's no bloatware and everything works. I don't use Samsung apps either so Enox ROM was good for me.

i have dmod v5 from dario_lob i guess and this is the best rom i have it
it never lags and its just the best rom thanks to him

[Q] STOCK VS custom ROM for D3 XT862

HELLO ...i am new to the Android world but an expert in the windows world...... i do also love linux
i have a Droid 3 XT862 running Android 2.3 and i want to experience the freedom of rooting my D3
i had hoped my first Android phone would be high spec running the latest OS (or almost) but i am not ready to risk using a touch-screen only phone because i hav had some bad experiences with touchscreen keyboards....thats pretty much why i got the D3 instead of the RAZR or the DROID BIONIC
QUES #1:
how difficult is it to revert back to my original Android 2.3 OS if i find it difficult to use a custom ROMS?? i really want to use my camera so a chance to revert bak to my original V2.3 wud be nice
QUES #2:
is the phones ability to install apps affected in any way by upgrading the Android version ( FOTA) or rooting?? for example..... i am going to test run my V2.3 os for a while and install many apps, will these same apps be able to install on the custom ROMS?? ...... wat are some of the advantages or disadvantages for installing apps on stock V2.3 and then try to install the same apps on any of the below custom roms:

Reverting to stock is as simple as plugging the phone into your computer and flashing stock firmware with a utility. Custom roms and rooting shouldn't affect app installation, with the caveat of some video rental apps won't work on rooted devices(piracy prevention). BBM should install on any custom rom ics and up, but until it's released we won't know for sure. All that being said, sometimes a particular app may have issues with custom roms but it's the exception, not the rule. Yes you can switch roms similar to a dual boot, although data from one rom isn't visible to another, like app data, text messages, call log. Sdcard contents are though. Safestrap creates img files for custom rom slots, you can have up to 4(in addition to stock) I believe, although I no longer use safestrap so I'm not totally sure. The more you have the less Sdcard space available and the custom roms can be pretty buggy sometimes. Personally I just flash over the stock rom since its so easy to return to stock if needed. I also only run gb roms since I need the camera

Cant thank you enough bro.... just glad that i can run ICS apps on the custom roms and revert back to Stock when i need it ..... and i think it will be a good idea for me to install a GB ROM as well .......
you said "The more you have the less Sdcard space available"......... does that mean these custom roms are supposed to STAY on the SD-card ??
i thought after u installed the custom roms, you could do watever you want to the SD card
