Hi, I rooted/restored my KFHD using kffa to version 7.2.3. I disabled OTA updates by moving the otacerts.zip file from the security subdirectory to the downloads folder. I want to update the kindle to 7.4.6 (root was broken earlier by the OTA update to 7.4.9). I downloaded the 7.4.6 .bin update file from Amazon, and copied it directly to the Internal Storage (main) folder on the Kindle. However, the update button on the device info menu page remains greyed out. (I've rebooted, etc. to no avail.) The exact update filename is update-kindle-7.4.6_D025_4620220.bin.
Any suggestions on how to get the manual update to work? Thx!!.

Why do you want to upgrade it to 7.4.6?

I'm trying to install HC 3.2 from the stock Froyo install on a T-Mobile Streak 7.
I'm pretty sure I've followed all of the posts correctly, but I seem to get hung up and am hoping someone can point out the obvious (I hope) mistake.
First off, I'm using the flashing guide at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Dell_Streak_7/Flashing_Guide
And the files found at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Dell_Streak_7#Official
Specifically, I'm using these files (US 4G 514 build):
http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/Streak7/514/recovery.img
http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/Streak7/LG7_514_21700_30.pkg
I seem to have no problem installing the recovery image and installing the rom package on the SD card.
But, when I try to go into the Recovery mode and select to update via update.pkg, I get the message "Booting recovery kernel image" and then it just hangs.
I've downloaded both files twice in case there was a problem with one of the downloads and that did not fix it.
As a test, I installed the old recovery image:
http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/Streak7/336/recovery.img
And tried to update to the 514 package, and it failed (gave the FOTA error - as expected).
Any ideas on what is going wrong? Thanks.
You can try to open your .pkg simply when device is power on - from downloads or with file manager. I installed HC official update (but i have wifi version) this way, without recovery
I cannot get it from the update section because it is a T-Mobile version.
As for running it from the file manager, it is an "unknown" type. Not sure how you can install a .pkg file direct from the OS.
Download XPlore File Manager and try Open in a system in submenu on long tap
Trying to push a factory update since i have no OS installed and when i go to push the .zip file it says "no such file or directory" its clearly in the file and I just copied and pasted the name with .zip at the end.
Any other ideas? Tried getting the kindle in adb sideload and it wouldnt even start.
tried to side load and it said cannot read the .zip file i was trying to load.
anyone?
ok got this to work sorta.
abd push rom.zip /sdcard
then it says
failed to copy rom.zip to /sdcard/rom.zip: read only file system
Something odd happened, when I went to reboot from twrp, it says supsersu is not installed an my device does not appear to be rooted. I rooted it before I even started all this. Maybe update derooted it?
Is there a way to push supersu and install it that way to root my device?
You could push su to the device and then mv it to the system after you mount it. Not sure why you gotna read only error on the sdcard as that is not supposed to happen. Try pushing the ROM to /data/local/tmp or just /data/local

Where would I DL su? any specific place to push it too?
Trying to push the rom to the other locations.
Thanks for replying also.
If you grab supersu or superuser's apk (use whichever is installed as the binary is specific to the app)and open it in a zip viewer like 7zip, you just go into the asserts folder and it should be there. It goes in /system/xbin, so double check that there is no su binary in that folder! I think you need to chmod it as well, I'm guessing to 644 but I don't remember the number offhand. It will probably bootloop with the wrong permissions.

Tried both locations and got the same "read-only file system" message.
The kindle itsn't rooted anymore, would that have anything to do with it?
There is nothing in /system/bin folder. Its has a /supersu folder but its empty also
Ok I think I got somewhere, I finally got the rom.zip file on it (factory amazon rom), and installed it. now its stuck on kindle fire boot logo....
ran KFFA and tried to do a restore on there and said I need a factory cable. So I ordered one.
Sounds like something with the data partition was messed up, even if you restore amazon os it might have issues, but you say you could write stuff to the data partition from amazon os just fine before you bricked it?

post the output of fastboot getvar all except imei and serialno
you have unlocked bootloader. This process wipe /data including all HTC preloaded apps in /data/preload/. The ota updates sometime applies patches to these preloaded app. If they are missing, youmust put them back in that folder and set the right permission.

1. Hi, first You Phone needs to stay Rooted
2.you need to have your phone S-on
3.You would have to get your Current Phone's OTA in Zip Downloaded
4.Get es Explorer
5.Decompress The OTA.zip Somewhere on your Pc then Browse through it,You will see a folder Data/Preload
6.Copy everything and paste it in your Phone anywhere you want it
7.Now use the es explore To create the same folder in 0/Data Create new folder Preload there then paste the Whole thing there
8.Now from the es Explorer Change the Permission of every file and apps ( Check on everything)
I almost forgot u must be on original stock recovery of your Phone for the update to run
9.Paste The new Ota update in your downloads then Check for updates then you would get Update completed Intall now.
10.Install it now And you are Done
Sense looks very awesome let me now if there is anything else
I ran into this exact problem and just reflashed the stock ruu with s off and ran all the ota updates again and it worked.
Good luck!
Hi there,
it seems like ASUS just provided a firmware update on 2016-02-05, listed as ASUS MeMO Pad (ME176C_CX)Software Image Version: V 12.10.1.36(Android 5.0)For WW SKU only(Lollipop To Lollipop)* on the asus support page (no links allowed for me yet).
I got this update as OTA but it failed (without a useful note), now I try to update manually. I've downloaded the file and put it on an SDcard's root folder. When booting to recovery it is not installed automatically. Unfortunately adb sideload is impossible too (the device as not recognized by my notebook when in recovery mode).
Me device is not rooted an running V12.10.1.33 (stock).
Any suggestions?
Hello drohhyn,
I'll pm you the link for the drivers. That should help you with the issue that the device is not recognized by your notebook when in recovery mode. At the moment I am prevented to post links
load temporary recovery and flash the zip on the sdcard (make sure to delete first line on updater_script in meta-inf)
SOLVED Need help w/4.01 OTA ("Move installation package into SD card root directory")
Just got my 3T. It's currently running 3.5.4. (Check for updates shows "OnePlus A3000_28_161213")
So new, I haven't even rooted it yet.
I've downloaded the 4.01 OTA from Google Drive (OnePlus3TOxygen_28_OTA_035-037_patch_1701041831_c9652aee6cc.zip) onto myPC, and moved the file to my phone.
But every time I try to select Local Upgrade, I get the message:
Move installation package into SD card root directoryI've tried:
adb push to /sdcard
adb push to /storage/emulated/0
copying the file using Windows Explorer
Same result every time.
What do I have to do so it recognizes the file?
____________________________________________________________
Update: I ended up downloading the Full Zip (OnePlus3TOxygen_28_OTA_037_all_1701041831_a2ba632ce9.zip) instead of the OTA file.
Copied that to the SDcard, and Local Upgrade worked.
i had this 2 and there's 2 things you can try:
make sure you move all or any files you want to see or use in the root directory not in any folder, if that doesn't work reboot & check
lastly & oddly enough i used opera VPN so i could see the ota update BUT didn't do it but then i could see my local updates even after I turned off the von pretending to be in Canada
i hope that helps it worked for me
I still don't have the update in the USA but instead of doing the update manually im going to change location to Canada and do it over VPN using Opera im sooooo anxious waited from last Friday but I'm dying now hahahaha

Reboot to recovery mode and try a local install, you'll have to browse to it. This worked for me.
Or try adb sideload
Solved it!
