Change soft keys with gravitybox - Moto X Q&A

OK I must be an idiot cause I cannot for the the life of me figure out where to change the soft keys in gravitybox. Can someone point me in the right direction.
Or if there is another app that's better I'm cool with other suggestions too.
Thanks!!

I haven't used Gravity Box for a while since I have been using ART, but I have used SoftKeyZ Root. I think it's like $1 in the Play Store (link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.janis605.softkeyz), but it provides a number of soft keys that people have uploaded that are continually added to the app (or you can upload your own), it conveniently creates a backup of your stock keys when you flash new keys and it makes it easy to restore the backup if needed. That's my suggestion if you don't mind spending a dollar or if you have survey credit.

I tried softkeyz a while back and had all kinds of issues with my phone rebooting after I installed it. I have a backup and can try it again.

Under navigation bar tweaks. There's swap back and recents and option for cursor control with the keyboard open

Yeah, you may consider trying it again. I haven't had any issues. Make sure you have busybox installed and up to date, as that could cause some problems.

I ended up buying it and it seems to be working with no issues!!

I found a keyboard on the market called thumb keyboard and its awesome. Everyone should give it a try
Yep it's a great keyboard, I've been using it since day two. The right spacebar I have to make sure I press harder to get it to register otherwise its great with great support. They seem to update it often.
Will check it out.
It works great with the gtab the free version not so much but the pay version has a tablet layout that its awesome.

Looks great. Thank you.
Problem is that I can't get it to activate.
How did you get it to replace the stock kb?
In settings it won't check off after the warning box...??
I rebooted but the same results.
what rom are you running?
Runing 1.1 3389 the latest stock update.
Any suggestions or ideas?
Thanks
i believe you have to be running a custom rom to change keyboards on it. but do not hold me to that statement

You can do it in TnT but it takes a couple tricks. The TnT settings app won't let you enable the keyboard so you need to switch to the stock Android style settings app. Then enable the keyboard. Once done you need to put back your stock TnT settings app or you will have problems with other things.
Here is a link to the files required.

Got it! Awesome
Thank you for the link.
I will read up on this as I would loveto get this going.
Just wanted to say I have been following this developers project since day one. I highly recommend this keyboard. He updates and fixes issues quickly. Worth the $1.33. I use it as the default on my tab. Check it out if you haven't.

In a text box long press. It will popup with input method. Then you should see it.
Be sure to activate it in Settings/Language & Keyboard/ by checking it. i had to do this before changing it in the input method.
Does anyone else notice that thumb keyboard gets stuck in All Caps with no way to get out unless you close/re-open the keyboard? Hitting the shift key after it is in All Caps does nothing.

I know I usually have to hit the caps key twice when wanting caps lock off. Just see if hitting it a couple times does the trick. Otherwise I've never really had a problem.

Proximity sensor not working.

My capacitive buttons will not light up unless I cover the sensor first. Is there any known fix for this? Is this enough to get the phone replaced?

Bump.
The developer of Capacitive Button Brightness recently made a version of his app that turns the capacitive buttons on with the screen, regardless of lighting. Idk if he implemented those changes in the Play Store version, but I'm linking his post below.

That's weird. Try changing something (select one of the different brightnesses); it may trigger a request. Just change it back to default if you wish.

Which one are you trying (apk or play store)? You could try to reboot and/or clear the application's data (settings -> apps). Idk beyond that; it works for me.
EDIT: It could be an issue with the apk I attached; I noticed that the file name is different from when I got it from the developer. I linked his post; grab it from there.

The apk you linked. I've used the play store version in the past no problems, but I've installed a new rom since then. It seems I'm getting this problem now with both versions, so I guess the source of the problem is elsewhere...

hurm.. this is embarrassing. I've recently installed a new ROM, so I must have messed up somewhere as I'm getting errors from all apps as though the phone isn't rooted, which I don't understand how that could be since I'm already on a custom ROM... I'll reinstall the rom for now and see how that goes..

It may be as simple as installing Superuser from the Play Store (if you don't have it).

Turned out using SuperSU rather than superuser seemed to fix the problem. Getting back on topic I suppose, this version of the brightness app solves the issue of the capacitive buttons! They now illuminate when the screen is on, turn off when the screen is off! you're a lifesaver.

Keyboard shortcuts missing

I noticed after turning my phone on one day that the keyboard shortcuts (back slash from long press on "m" key, ETC) were missing. The only change ive made related my keyboard freeze swype and uncheck google voice typing since I didnt use them. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
I have a screenshot of the issue.
If you use wanam xposed, there's a system option to enable keyboard symbols. You can give that a try.

Yep tried both of those things, still not there.
Mine done the same thing after installing xposed framework. Make sure to go into exposed framework and click on modules then check to make sure Wanam us enabled, once that is done reboot phone, then open Wanam and click the "so keyboard symbols" then reboot using Wanam in the notification bar. Should be there after that. Or at least for me they were.

Yea I seen that, I was mainly just wanting to point out the part about making sure Wanam is enabled inside exposed, I've read a few article on here before where people will forget to enable it or not know that after downloading a module that you still physically have to go into xposed and enable it. Hopefully you get it figured out.

I was able to get them back finaly with the fix noted here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2171449
I think the issue may have had to do with wanam and the "keep my extra CSC" features because my features.xml was actually blank, and reportedly wanam messes up your features.xml
So for future refrence, if your keyboard symbols are missing the fix from that link should work, all thanks and credit go to him.
After installing the xposed module and Wanam xposed I also lost my symbols. But I fixed it buy using root explorer and going into: system/and csc/ you will see 2 feature.xml files. One is feature.xml and the other is feature.xml.bak. Rename feature.xml to feature.xml.bakk then rename feature.xml.bak to feature.xml. Then reboot. Now the symbols are back on the keyboard.

[Q] Accidentally removed home button action.

Hi guys, I accidentally set the home button to do nothing when I long press it. I can't figure out how to set it back to Google Now as there is nothing under the. Application defaults. Any ideas? Thanks.

Try long pressing blank spot on home screen see if there's any settings in there.

Nothing there. :/ I was considering reflashing the stock ROM anyway. I guess now is a good time.
Never mind I don't want to do that. Haha. I'll keep looking for a solution.
Wanam Xposed was unable to fix the issue also.
I'm not sure which I'm more frustrated with; The fact that I accidentally removed the key assignment or that the ability to do so is even allowed in the stock rom without a way to change it back.

Do you happen to have greenify installed? That was the only time i have had that option come up as a default. Furthermore, when i monitor the default applications list, setting the action to nothing makes greenify come up. If this is the case then go ahead and click the clear button next to greenify in the default applications listing, should work, next time you longpress you should be able to set it to google now, you can also go in the menu of greenify and press "Reset pull-up gesture".

Bad experience with the new One UI update

After the update, those 2 useless bars appeared I've tried to find every setting to turn them off but I can't find any (I already looked in the Edge Screen and all those advanced function settings) nothing helps
Please help me Thank you!
P/s: its function is Back, but I don't need 2 extra Back! My nav works fine!
(Solved) it turns out that the One Hand Operation+ app causes this, I uninstalled it and they are gone

I dont have the issue, i haven't factor reset too. Few people have it and it was solved by reset. It is highly advisable to factory reset. Those lines are actually a navigation gesture. If you swipe download from the line, it acts as back button and swipe straight horizontally to go to home. Swipe upwards for recent apps.
Make backup using smart switch and use google to sync game progress.
